Zelda's body formed in front of the Ne'ez Yohma Shrine, the blue light fading as she took a step into the lake of water surrounding her. As much as she wanted to focus on the Divine Beast at hand, she just could not get the conversation she had with Bolson out of her mind.
Of course she would have run into Bolson while back in Hateno. He always sat in front of the house saying he enjoyed the view. Isn't the view just as nice next to his own houses? And he had watched their training? Did he really have nothing better to do?
Zelda sighed as she climbed the steps up towards the Domains courtyard. As valid as all those arguments and frustrations were, it didn't change the fact that Bolson was right. She had started using Links amnesia in order not to deal with her true inner demons. She still felt that Link would never like a failure of a Princess such as herself... But she couldn't bear the thought of Link ever leaving her.
Zelda, after awkwardly standing in place for a moment, turned towards the Sea Bed Inn. Link would be worried she was gone for this long. So much for only taking a few hours, it had been all day. Her conversation with Bolson would be a good excuse... Telling her she needed to act and all that nonsense...
Act...
Zelda slapped her palms on her cheeks as she walked. Act? Act on her feelings? That seemed much harder that it sounded. She could barely even respond to her own feelings much less try and get someone else to respond to them. What was she supposed to do? She had never done anything like this before. The first time she even felt love, the first thing she did was go stab a sword into a rock and went to fight a gigantic pig like storm cloud.
"Good Evening Pri- I mean, Zelda," Kodah said, trying to call Zelda by name as she had requested, as Zelda walked into the place hurriedly. Zelda, not realizing that she had made it into the inn nor how fast she was walking, jumped.
"K-Kodah! Good Mor- Evening!" Zelda said, trying to turn to face the Zora. However Zelda, now not watching where she was going at her speed, only resulted in crashing into one of the beds in the room.
"Princess!" Kodah said worriedly, walking quickly around her desk towards the no sprawled Zelda on the bed. Zelda however remained on the bed, face planted into the sheets.
"Please don't worry. I am fine, thank you," Zelda's muffled voice came from the sheets. First Link carries her in front of all the Zora, then Bolson eggs her on to act on her feelings for Link while also calling out the fact that she's been running from her feelings, and now this was happening.
"Well, um, if you don't mind me saying," Kodah said, sitting on the bed next to Zelda. "You came in the Inn rather flustered yesterday. And now you seem even more flustered. You aren't your usual... How do I put this... I guess you aren't yourself. Is something bothering you?"
Zelda remained quite for a bit before grabbing one of the pillows and hugging it, resting her chin on the pillow.
"Kodah... How did you and Kayden... You know... get together?" Zelda asked quietly. Kodah practically sprank from the bed.
"Oh my- Why Princess! No wonder you aren't acting like yourself! You're in love! It must be- it must be-!" Kodah said gasping between her statements before squealing. "You're in love with Link aren't you?"
The large female Zora quickly jogged to close the Seabed Inn, ensuring no distraction could come between them, before rushing back to Zelda's side. She coughed, recollecting herself before turning back to Zelda.
"So.. You wish to know how Kayden and I got together?" Kodah asked. Zelda nodded, sitting up in order to sit a bit more politely, choosing to rest on her knees, still gripping the pillow.
"Yes, if you don't mind. I know it can be a rather rude thing to ask someone... But first love is hard, and you and Kayden seem to have made it. Your love seems rather strong for one another..." Zelda said, burning a bit red. Kodah however laughed.
"Oh goddesses no!" She said. "Believe it or not, Kayden was not my first love."
Zelda blinked, a bit taken aback by that statement. "Then... Then who was?"
"Believe it or not, it was actually the Hylian Champion himself," Kodah said with a smile. Zelda's eyes grew wide. LINK, was her first love?
"But... But... I thought-" Zelda started, however Kodah cut her off.
"You thought Princess Mipha was the only Zora that had eyes for Link? Why, that Hylian was unusually popular in the Domain. Many of the young Zora girls at the time adored him. You must remember, Link had been visiting the Domain long before he became a Champion. He had become friends with all of the people of the Zora. That's why he is so well remembered. Why when Link first arrived at the Domain a few months back, everyone instantly remembered him. That's how loved he was." Kodah sad with dreamy eyes, remembering the days a hundred years ago. Zelda couldn't help but feel just a bit defensive. Link was her first love? A better question would be... Why did all these Zora fall for her Link?
"I remember those days like they were yesterday. Link would come to train or visit Mipha, but he and I were rather close friends as well! I used to call him 'Linny'! Still do from time to time as a joke, but he doesn't seem to remember the nickname. Honestly, you would think Linny has forgotten me all together..." Kodah said, bringing a thoughtful finger to her chin.
"Back then, I adored the Champion. I was still fairly little when we met. I hadn't even hit my growth spurt. At that time Link was still my size, but alas, as you know Hylians age faster than Zora and as the years progressed, Link soon was twice as tall as I was. Funny, now I'm much taller than him!" Kodah giggled lightly.
"Now as for our friendship, in the beginning we used to play around. Unlike the Zora Princess, I was never one to use a weapon. I would've dearly injured myself. Linny would come and play with me when I got lonely. However, as time went on and his training began to get more intense, he and the Princess would spend much more time together. At the time, I thought me and Linny had something..."
Kodah brought a hand to her large red forehead.
"I was such a child. I had gotten jealous, believing that Linny and I had been in love. I honestly believed he was two timing with me and the Princess! Of course, looking back, Linny had never once tried to make us a couple. In fact, I don't even think Link ever recognized Mipha's or my feelings. If he had, he didn't feel the same way. When I asked Linny to choose between myself or the Princess, I believe he thought I meant choose between playing with me or his training. Of course he HAD to choose his knights training. Still, it rather hurt. I was a girl who knew nothing of true romance at the time..."
Kodah giggled even more. Zelda couldn't help but smile, resting her chin in the pillow she was still holding. That definitely sounded like something Link would have done.
"After that, I didn't see much of Link. I don't believe the Princess did either. Soon as he got that famous sword, he had much more responsibilities. That piled up even more when he became a Champion. I didn't think too much about love after that... However, soon my eyes fell upon my now husband, Kayden." Kodah said, seemingly looking up at the roof.
"it was years after the Calamity. We believed that not only Princess Mipha, but Linny as well had perished. You too in fact," Kodah said, pointing at the Hylian blonde. Zelda gulped.
"Sorry about that..." Zelda said quietly. Kodah, however shook her head vigorously.
"Don't you ever be sorry about that. You held the Calamity back for a century! If anything we are forever in your debt, along with Linny's. I keep telling Kayden to stop charging Link whenever he stays here... Anyway, speaking of Kayden, He had finally hit his growth spurt and my did he look dashing. He was such a hard worker at the time, trying to prove to his parents that he would be such a great owner of the Seabed Inn. That hard working Zora... Struck me I guess. I had never felt anything like the love I had for him. I started talking to him more often, offering to help with the Inn and tried hanging out with him as best I could." Kodah explained.
"One thing that really helped, was finding what he was interested in. I would join him in his interest and activities. Eventually... Strong emphasis on the eventually... He picked up on my feelings. At first he was worried. He saw how me and Linny played back then, and he thought he would be disgracing his friend. But in the end, he knew Link would give us his blessing and he started to woo me. It was wonderful. And now here we are! Owners of the Seabed Inn with a daughter of our own!"
"That was beautiful Kodah. I'm so very happy for you, really," Zelda said, almost jealous at Kodahs perfect sounding love story. "So... What do I do then?"
Kodah giggled before putting a hand on Zelda's shoulder.
"Link is always helping you out with your research and stuff right? Why don't you do something he would like to do?"
Zelda frowned. It's not that the idea was bad, but...
"Link and I still have a quest to do. An important one. Its just by chance that I happen to enjoy research and things that we have to do. I don't want to get too sidetracked." Zelda said disappointed. She couldn't let her feelings get in the way of her job and goal. Kodah however, smiled.
"Kayden was the same way. He refused to give up on his dream. He thought I was a distraction. But if anything, now he says I'm the reason he owns this place now. If you balance it well enough, sometimes love is the answer to reach your goals. You guys aren't staying in the Domain much longer right? I know you guys need to go see the other Divine beast eventually. I've heard your muttering when you look at those notes at night." Kodah said, raising an eyebrow with her sharp smile. Zelda gave Kodah a guilty look.
"S-Sorry about that... Yes, we will be on our way soon," Zelda responded. Kodah nodded.
"Well, Linny has always loved the road. He always talked about the fun things he did on it. I also know you want to learn more while on the road. Just dive into your interest during your travels, and while your having him teach you about the fun things of Hyrule, try and see what Link may do for fun. Maybe you guys can bond over it!"
Zelda smiled brightly at the sound of that. She had already had a list of things she wanted to do now that she wasn't Royalty anymore. Of course there have to be some things in that list that Link really enjoyed. That could work well and not get in the way of their travels!
"Thank you Kodah! I shall do my best!" Zelda said happily. Kodah nodded.
"I wish you the best. Trust me, you'll need it with that dense Hylian," Kodah said sweetly. Zelda suddenly gave Kodah a confused look.
"Speaking of that Hylian, where is Link? I thought he would be here..." Zelda asked looking around.
"Oh, he said he was out doing something for old man Jaitho... Something about taking down old Historic Zora Monuments?"
Zelda suddenly sprang from the bed.
"Historic Monuments! That could be really useful! I must catch up to him at once! Thank you for all your help Kodah, really! I shall see you later tonight!" Zelda said, quickly bowing before rushing out the room. Kodah laughed.
"Ah... Young Love..."
...
Kenny Boi here! So fun fact, if you read all of Kodah's text in game, Kodah did have a crush on Link way back a hundred years ago! Linny ended up being the crush name she gave to him. I hope I included it in this story well! Let me know if you guys enjoy these conversations that show a bit of back story and expand upon small details such as this!
