A/N: Hey everyone. This story is one of my originals from before my profile reboot. I wasn't happy with my stories and decided everyone would be much better off without them. I am in the process of rewriting this story and plan to rewrite the Blackbolt and The Flash series sometime soon. Feel free to review ideas, or just tell me you hate me and my stories, for which I don't blame you. After all, I don't claim to be remotely good at storytelling and writing. But, here you go. This, much like my other stories, will be updated slowly. Hope you enjoy it.
Chapter 1-6: Prologue Chapters. Would recommend reading due to their importance to the story's plot.
Chapter 7-11: Trials Chapters. Would recommend reading due to their importance to the story's plot.
November 5, 1998 | Central City, Missouri | POV: Alexander Morue
"Hey Xander, I know you're studying for that Latin test you have on Thursday, but I was wondering if you could help me out with putting up this drywall. I know I could do it myself, but at this rate, I'll be up until 2 am drilling these in. If you don't mind, I'll help you with the Latin test afterward if you're down. I hope you get this message, our phones have kind of been on the frizz lately. Say hi to Danny for me. Love you bro, bye," Xander sighed at this, shoving his phone into his pocket as he turned his attention to the movie in front of him.
He had his arm around his long-time crush and hopefully long-time girlfriend Meena Dhawan. She was fantastic. She was brilliant, funny, artistic, athletic, and extremely attractive. Meena had black hair, hazel eyes, dark skin, and an excellent figure that would send every 14 year old to their knees. After all, she had matured a lot over the summer, and looked as if she could stand next to a 24-year-old supermodel, and still come out on top in a beauty contest. After a lot of convincing and pressure from his best friend Danny, Xander pucked up the courage and asked Meena out during their fourth-period Intro to Cooking class. She had surprisingly agreed, and now the two were on their first date at one of the only drive-in movie theaters in the entire Missouri area. He had called in a favor with one of his senior friends and had acquired a sweet ride in the form of a convertible 1950 Ford Thunderbird. Knowing he would surely be arrested since he didn't have a license, Xander had driven through the back roads, using what his father had taught him to actually make the trip.
Picking up Meena, the two spent the ride talking about their mutual love of cooking, their daily lives, as well as their home lives. They arrived and spent their time getting popcorn and drinks before sitting down in the car to watch the first movie on that night. He was supposed to be helping his older sister Evelyn, 16, drill in drywall inside their new attic, but had instead decided that the date was more important. He lied about some Latin test for cover and added to the lie saying that he would be studying for the test at Danny's place. Xander's phone rang exactly thirty minutes later, the caller ID being Evelyn, with a small message reading 'HELP'. He sighed, and flipped the phone open, pressing it to his ear. He expected his sisters usual calm or annoyed tone of voice, but instead only heard whispering on top of yelling. "Xander, you need to get here FAST. There's a man in the house. He tied Dad and Mom up in the living room...I'm hiding in the closet...please hurry,"
"I'm on my way," Xander replied, absolutely in shock at the message given to him from his older sister. A man...in the house...mom and dad in danger...sister hiding in closet. Meena had turned to him, concern on her face as he got out of the car. "Meena, I...my parents...sister...in danger...need to go," Without wasting any more time, he sprinted away from the drive-in movie theater.
He arrived at his home sixteen minutes later after cutting through a lot of backroads, a lot of backyards, and more than once he had to jump roof to roof. Xander darted up the front steps of his home, rushing around the corner to his kitchen window. Not wanting to draw attention, he slowly lifted it, crawling through and over the sink before silently landing on the ground. He could smell dust all through the air, and he could see bright red flashes coming from the living room. Silently creeping along through the house, Xander crept into the living room, a horrible sight meeting him as he moved in. His parents were sitting on the living room rug, both with their mouths gagged as they looked up at the ceiling. Around them, a blur of red...lightning moved around the room, circling his parents being slightly blurred as the red illuminated the room. Xander could spot his sister within the farthest closet, fear in her eyes as she spotted him.
He silently moved towards the nearest closet, slowly entering it before looking out the small slit near the middle of the door. He watched as the red lightning abruptly stopped, replaced by a man in a yellow suit made of some fiber he had never seen. The man wore a yellow cowl, his eyes glowing red as lightning popped around the red and black insignia on his chest. The man removed a large knife from his suit, and Xander's blood immediately ran cold, his nerves rising as he felt his entire body go still. The man proceeded to stab his father in the lung, before slitting his throat. He then stabbed his mother in the heart, before stabbing her through the skull. If he wasn't paralyzed from the head to his toes, Xander would have screamed out for his mother and father, desperate to hold them one last time, but he couldn't. It was physically, mentally, and emotionally impossible. It seemed his sister was not the same way, as a toe-curling scream ran through the entire neighborhood.
The man in yellow spun towards the closet, a smile on his maniacal face as he moved forward, opening the closet door as Evelyn rushed out. She tried to slam into him, but he was too quick, kicking her to her knees before grabbing her by the hair, pulling it hard as she cried out in pain. Xander's throat was completely dry, void of function as his mind moved through scenarios of him heroically saving his sister like in the movies. But nothing happened, his body wouldn't allow it. Instead, he watched as the man dropped the knife onto the ground, and looked straight into his eyes through the small slit in the closet. The man could see him. He was next. The man reached around, gripping his sister's jaw while the other moved to her shoulder. The man's smile grew even bigger before the man whispered. "I'm sorry," It didn't sound like he meant it, but he couldn't get a moment to think about it before the man snapped his sister's neck...killing her.
Without a word, the man disappeared in a flash of red and black, leaving Xander alone in the closet as he slowly dropped down onto the floor. He was utterly alone...his family was dead. His grandparents were dead. His aunt had moved to Africa off the grid years ago. He was an orphan. Alone. These thoughts and fears continued to rule his mind for what seemed like hours before the police arrived. He could hear the sirens. Could hear the officers, detectives, CSI's, etc as they moved into his home. It was roughly four hours after the murders when the closet door swung open.
"- I don't know, Captain. I -" The officer stopped dead, his eyes finding Xander's as his expression turned to shock. "I got a kid in here, Captain! Possible witness," Xander's eyes swiveled over the officer, from his badge to the gun on his holster, the name 'Off. West', and the man's soft expression. West dropped down onto a knee and addressed him. "Do you know what happened here? Who killed your...family?" Xander nodded. "Can you tell me what happened?"
"I was out...on a date," Xander choked, his voice finding itself as he looked away, not daring to face the bodies of his family. "My sister...Evelyn...called me...said my parents were in danger...and there was a man in the house. I rushed here...and...red lightning...surrounding my parents. It stopped...and a man...in yellow appeared...he stabbed my dad...before slitting his...his throat," He choked a sob, looking down at the motionless face of his father, before turning to his mother. "He then stabbed...my mother in the heart...and then the head. The man...in yellow...found my sister in the closet...and snapped her neck,"
"A man in yellow? Like a man in yellow clothing, like a shirt?" Officer West asked.
"No...like a full spandex suit...with a cowl...only not spandex...different material," Xander wiped his face, straightening himself out. "I would guess it was some sort of reinforced tripolymer. If I assume correctly...the man was running at high speeds, the red lightning being a product of some sort of energy," Officer West seemed rather confused, but shook it off and motioned for Xander to stand. He did, and Officer West guided him out of the house and onto the street. "Now...are you certain you saw lightning? Maybe you were seeing some sort of light? Maybe a reflection from the street?"
"Look, I know what I saw Officer...West. My mom and dad were stabbed in the chest by this...man in a yellow suit. He...uh...snapped my sister's neck...right in front of me," Xander replied coldly, both angered and annoyed at the officers lack of trust in him. He knew what he saw, and knew what had happened. The officer nodded, and led him to a police cruiser, and opened the back door to reveal a young girl. "This is my daughter Iris, she's been riding along with me tonight. Sit with her for a few minutes while I talk with the Captain," Xander didn't really feel like placing himself in a small space like the back of this cruiser, but decided to listen to the experienced officer, and crawled into the back seat. Officer West left the door open so as to not lock him in, and left to talk to the Captain. After a few moments, Iris West spoke. "What happened...in there...with your family?" He didn't reply and instead focused his attention on his home. There were cops everywhere. Lights surrounding the neighborhood. His life...was over.
December 11th, 2013 | Central City, Missouri | POV: Alexander Morue
Just nineteen years after the deaths of Jonathon, Leya, and Evelyn Morue, Xander Morue stood within his own diner within Central City not six blocks away from the both famous and infamous S.T.A.R Laboratories. It was due to activate in less than five minutes, and Xander couldn't say he was unhappy about it. After all, his business was one of only five that would receive enhanced energy capabilities from the pure and clean energy produced by S.T.A.R Labs. After the death of his family, he had been sent into the foster care system. With his grandparents died, and his only son off the grid in Africa, there was no-one to go to. Officer West had offered to take him in, but Xander decided to decline. He didn't want to put pressure on the nice cop, who was already a single father raising a nine-year-old daughter. So, he was placed into the system, which took him out of Central City and into Keystone City across the river.
Over the next four years after his family's death, Xander was sent far and wide across the system. It was on his eighteenth birthday that he got a letter in the mail from an insurance agency. Seeing as at the time he was a newly legal adult, he was old enough to obtain the life insurance checks that took effect as soon as the deaths of his parents were confirmed. He got roughly $700,000 from his mother and father, earning nothing from his sister seeing as she was only a few years older than he was when she died. Xander spent $72,000 for tuition to the famous Central City School for Culinary Arts. He paid for a dorm and meal, which came with the tuition, and spent the next year and a half learning all he could about the art of cooking meals, snacks, desserts, baking, etc. On his twentieth birthday, he graduated from the school and bought his own two-bedroom apartment. His rent was low due to his affiliation with the elderly landlord, Mike, so he was only paying $600 a month.
He kept the other $600,000 in his bank account, unsure what to do with it all. He thought about buying a house but found it unnecessary without a girlfriend, or even a future plan in mind. So, he decided to spend a few grand on opening his own restaurant, the Central City Joint. He bought a two-story place in the center of town, using the upstairs for a makeshift office and living area, and the basement/cellar as a place for food storage. He launched it a week after his twenty-first birthday. Over the next eight years, he met a lot of people who grew to enjoy his food and service. He reacquainted himself with the now Detective Joe West and his now-adult daughter Iris West. He also met her friend and adopted brother, Barry Allen. It came as quite a surprise when the two talked about their pasts. At first, they didn't believe each other regarding the man in yellow, thinking one was merely making fun of the other until they both found out the truth of their pasts. They had become good friends after their discovery of their similarities, though it seemed Joe West, even with his respect for Xander's cooking skills, didn't believe them.
It was now December 11th, 2014. Xander's business was booming, with him being one of if not the best and most well-known chef in town. He could cook anything and enjoyed proving it to disbelievers who thought they could beat him with unheard of dishes from the Philippines or Saudi Arabia. Barry was a CSI for the CCPD, Joe was a Detective, Iris had a job at CC Jitters, and all was good. Business was great as usual Xander cooked fish fillets on the grill and his apprentice at the time, Emma, cooked classic spaghetti and meatballs. He was flipping a fillet, casually humming the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody. Before he could blink, every beverage in the kitchen levitated into the air. A subspace anomaly. All of space and time were fractured, and physics was deteriorating astronomically. At least that's what the hundreds of books on physics told him. He glanced at Emma in shock, before looking outside to find people running past his restaurant.
Xander motioned for Emma to help those who had entered the restaurant in fear, before sprinting to the back. He moved up the back stairway, climbing three steps at a time before reaching the roof. He pushed open the door and was met with a fiery wind. Xander covered his face for a moment, taking in the pure strength of the wind. Then he opened his eyes, and damn did he see a good sight. S.T.A.R Labs had exploded in a fiery red, a wave of unknown substance spreading through the city at a rapid pace. Xander watched the Central City Police Department as yellow lightning flew down from the sky, before hitting the large building. He could see small glass particles in the distance break from the strike and hoped no one got hit. However, as Xander pondered the safety of the CCPD, he didn't see the wave move through him at high speed, as well as he didn't see the bright yellow lightning bolt descending from the sky. Before he could react, the lightning bolt struck him in the chest, sending him flying back. Xander could see sparks fly as a wave of energy moved through him. Soaring through the air, unconsciousness overtaking him as he fell through a wave of blue. The world around him slowly funneled into a small hole, leaving nothing but darkness and lightning as he fell.
UNKNOWN
Xander floated adrift in a region of space and time that most people only dreamed of. Lightning and energy surged around him with his conscious disabled, his subconscious was all that remained open. His subconscious was being bombarded with memories and events that either weren't his or he hadn't seen or heard of. In mere minutes, hundreds of thousands of years had passed for Xander. Lightning all around struck him at constant speeds, only enhancing his comatose state as he drifted through the multi-colored abyss. Seconds become minutes, minutes become hours, hours become days, days become weeks, weeks become months, months become years, years become decades, decades become centuries, centuries become millennia. Time didn't exist in this dimension...the Speed Force as he now knew. It wasn't until a small entity appeared in the abyss that Xander sprung awake.
He appeared the same as he had before, only his eyes were darker, with a sense of age only an old man could have. Xander floated around for a minute before regaining his orientation, or at least as much orientation as possible in a dimension with zero gravity. After a moment of looking around, Xander spotted the figure, approached it, and nearly gasped at the sight of his much younger sister, Evelyn. But it wasn't his sister. He knew that now. Through the millennia of moments and memories, he had seen the constant visits the Speed Force made to its conduits. "You're not my sister are you?" Xander asked as he examined her. She was exactly as he remembered, her silky black hair that moved down to her lower back. Her hazel eyes, which she had inherited from their father. And she wore the same clothes she had worn the night Thawne had snapped her neck right in front of him. Evelyn shook her head. "You're the Speed Force," She nodded. "What do you want?"
"You just had a taste of the timeline. You have seen a possible future, but not the future. You're seeing the original timeline," The Speed Force said. "Your involvement in the previous timeline was near non-existent, seeing as you were one of the many occupants of the Speed Force after Flashpoint was created. Seeing as you are...different and not attached to the timeline as Barry and Wally are, we decided to take a gamble with you,"
"So, what do you want? You overachieving godly types always want a puppet or a minion," Xander spoke. In all of his memories, he had grown a medium length disdain for the entity known as the Speed Force. It made decisions without thoughts and did not tend to take credit for its actions. And when it was forced to admit something it once did, it tended to play it off like the CEO of a tech company whose phones blow up in peoples faces. It only made him angrier when the Speed Force spoke.
"We want you, Xander -" Xander froze at the sound of his nickname. Evelyn had had many ear infections when they were kids so her hearing and speech were not great. So, when she couldn't pronounce the Ale in his name, she substituted with the nickname, Xander. He had hated the nickname at first but grew to like it after he found out he had high school classes with five other Alexander's. "- Barry Allen was our greatest hero, but you...you are our champion. The Champion of the Speed Force,"
"So...what do you want me to do?" Xander asked. The Speed Force smiled and moved towards him. It took his arm, and guided him to his left, through a large open portal. They emerged...within Central City. Only it was...perfect. No excessive noise, no angry pedestrians, no blaring honks, or yelling. The streets were calm, the buildings were clean, and the sky was clear and blue, void of clouds. Only the sun lay in the large blue skyline, and Xander couldn't help but feel a sense of calm filled him.
"There are many divisions within the Speed Force, which has taken the form of Central City, the birth-place of our engine Barry Allen. The Wraith department has taken the form of the Central City Police Department, the Speed Force News Regiment has taken the form of Central City Picture News. Our prison is currently under the form of S.T.A.R Laboratories. And our 'Break Room' is in the form of Central City Jitters. It would be the Joint, but I'm afraid the Earth 1-A timeline is not that...popular…among those residing in the Speed Force. After all, Flashpoint has given us quite a few problems,"
Xander nodded in understanding as the Speed Force led him into a small building on the south side of town. Inside there were three floors, all with different containers, shelves, duffel bags, and other things lined against the wall. "This will be your utility room, anything you need you can find in here no doubt. A Speed Force Bazooka? It will reside here. A suit? Either you can use one stored here, or you can build one within the facility to our right. Do you understand?" Xander nodded. "Are you certain you are prepared for the mission ahead of you? It will mean hard work and hardly any free time. You may be forced to close the restaurant,"
"It won't come to that. After all, I can just hire a chef for the times I'm not there," Xander replied. "Now, what is it that you need me to do?"
"Do what you feel, and we will follow. However, we have one mission for you," The Speed Force said as Xander rolled his eyes in expectancy. "We need you to go to the year 2049, and stop Nora West-Allen from working with Eobard Thawne and deliver her to 2016. It is detrimental that Eobard Thawne remains in 2049 to live out his execution. Her workings with the Reverse-Flash will tear apart the West-Allen family as well as the timeline. Nora West-Allen must survive to live another day,"
"Ok, mission recap. Find Nora West-Allen, ensure the death of Eobard Thawne which will give me great joy, take her to her family in 2016, and then ensure the survival of Barry Allen, Iris West, Nora West-Allen, etc, etc. Is there anything else at this time?" Xander inquired as the Speed Force shook its head. It looked around the room for a moment, before speaking. "When you are done, merely exit the Speed Force. You will know where to go," The Speed Force studied him for a moment, before sighing. "Why do you dislike us?"
"You took everything from me," Xander said simply. "Your idiocy gave Thawne his powers, and in turn, my parents and sister were killed right in front of me. I don't like you, or what you choose to do with your grand power. You think you know what's better for everyone, but you don't. You can control your conduits, and yet you allow them to move throughout the universe, killing, hurting, and destroying people's lives, when you can easily take their abilities from them,"
"We understand your anger, and that is why we need you. Our Time Wraiths are not always...reliable. We need a mortal mind to help us with our decisions. You will be able to communicate with us at will, whenever you please," The Speed Force replied before a large blue portal split open and appeared to his left. "You will find yourself in the year 2049. Stay safe, and do not get attached to anything you see. It is a future, not the future,"
Xander nodded, his gaze falling on the room around him as he examined each section. There was an archives section dedicated to most of the timelines connected to the Speed Force. In those archives were documents, objects from timelines and universe, as well as different suits used by speedsters, conduits, and Speed Force hunters. He started his search by moving to the Archive section, speed-reading his way through documents at a speed unimaginable to the human eye. After reading everything from the beginning of time to 2016, and everything from 2024 to 2049. He decided not to spoil the surprise by reading from 2016 to 2024, and instead moved towards the 'Objects' portion of the archives room. He moved over to the 'Suit Creation' area and activated the small pod carrying an empty and naked mannequin, ready for a suit to don it.
There were hundreds of thousands of options, and he could even utilize suits and weapons from other universes, such as Earth 2, 3, 38, 616, and even 199999. He decided to take and utilize functions from both Iron Man's Mark L suit from Earth 199999 and the fourth Barry Allen suit from Earth 1 in 2018. He decided to start with Iron Man's Mark L suit, before throwing in a lot of the fourth Barry Allen suit's functions. Xander didn't spend long on the suit, focusing more on the weapons systems and the suit's aesthetic. With the Mk. I complete, Xander printed it onto the mannequin, watching as the suits' six layers quickly began to surround it. Finally, once it was done, the suits cowl surrounded the mannequin's head. The suit was grey, with a black emblem with a black lightning bolt facing up and to the wearer's left. At once, a ring popped out of the container, a grey ring with the same black emblem and black lightning bolt. Xander accepted the ring and placed it onto his left middle finger.
He then placed it within the pod's transferral ring and pressed down on the small nub on the side of the ring. The suit was suddenly sucked into the ring, which clicked shut as he removed his hand. With his identity thoroughly secured, Xander focused on the energy that had burrowed inside him in his journey to the Speed Force and took off at high speeds through the portal the Speed force had created not too long before, creating a time remnant that disappeared before rushing towards his destination. 2049.
A/N: Welp. As stated in the story's bio, this story is DC/Marvel, so Tony Stark does indeed exist in this universe. The universe starts off as Earth-1 and Earth-199999 combined, but will later introduce Earth-2, Earth-3, Earth-36, and several others. Feel free to leave ideas via review or messaging, and once again, I appreciate constructive criticism. And once again, if you wanna tell me you hate me, I'm ok with that as well. Have a nice day, and I'll see you with the next update.
