Oblivious - Rewritten Version
Summary: Harriet finds a huge magical library in her home and finds out some things she should've known all her life. How does this influence her life? Dumbledore Bashing, Selective Weasley Bashing, Time Travel Fix It.
Chapter 8
It was in a loving way that Harriet ran her hand through her oldest son's hair when the doorbell rang. She sighed and mumbled, "Who might that be?" Nonetheless, she still walked to the door and opened it. It was Ron.
And since nothing much has happened in the last few days other than resting, Harriet had time to think about a lot of things, basically all except Ron. She had tried not to think about him too much, and suppressing her feelings when he was home. That had normally worked out pretty well, even before Harriet knew what was going on, but this was just the last straw.
Maybe suppressing her feelings hadn't been such a good idea after all. It was good for the children, sure, but it wasn't good for any of them when they overwhelmed her all at once. And that they did now upon seeing Ron coming home drunk. Again.
She wanted to start screaming right then and there, but then remembering toddler James in her arms, and her two younger children in their cots sleeping, she knew she had to ensure that they couldn't hear anything.
For once, Ron noticed something off, which was weird, considering that he was drunk and even in a sober state not the brightest candle on the cake.
"Wassit, Har?" He slurred as he came inside and tried to kiss her. "You look…" For a short moment he looked like he was about to vomit all over the floor. "…angry."
Harriet had serious problems trying to keep her temper in check. "Hey Ron. Yeah, I've been meaning to talk to you about something. But let me bring James to bed first, alright?" She didn't kiss him, and he just nodded as she left to bring toddler James to bed.
While Harriet was gone, Ron walked around, still with heavy steps and slurred words. He got out two glasses and filled them with Firewhiskey. And then he pulled a vial out of his pocket and dropped some kind of liquid into one of the drinks. There were a few problems, including him almost dropping the vial five times, but eventually he did it.
"Aha", came a voice from behind him and he jumped. "So that's how you've been doing it this whole time. That's why you've never brought the kids to bed in the evening. Because you needed me gone so you could drug me with your love potions. Is that it, Ronald Weasley?"
Only slurred words came out of his mouth, so Harriet rolled her eyes and summoned a sober-up potion from their potions cabinet. As much as she'd liked to see Ron sober up on his own with all symptoms included, she wanted to talk to a sober Ron, and that couldn't wait any longer.
As soon as the sober-up potion was in Ron's system, the redhead perked up. "Oh hi Harry!" He tried to kiss her, but she moved back.
"No, Ronald, not now. Do you remember what I just said? About you using my absence to drug me?"
Ron gulped. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
That was obviously the wrong thing to say. Harriet glared at him, part of her hoping that he'd just drop dead in front of her. But he didn't.
"So you have not been drugging me with love potions since our fifth year? So you haven't drugged me with the loyalty potions Dumbledore used, even after his death?" Ron stayed silent, and Harriet had enough. "ANSWER ME!"
Ron visibly flinched as his face turned white. An angry woman was one thing, but an angry Harriet Potter-Weasley was something he did not wish on many people. He didn't want to tell her the truth. He wasn't in love with her. He had only wanted access to the money, and he could only get that through Harriet. But seeing his wife's angry expression, he knew that if he tried to hide the fact that Harriet's words were completely true, he would die a miserable death as painful as magically possible. So instead of lying, he mumbled out, "I have…"
Harriet sighed through her nose and counted to ten, but it was no use. She just couldn't keep her emotions in any longer, and she was just glad she didn't forget to temporarily spell her children sound-resistant.
"Ronald Bilius Weasley. You will listen to me, and you will not interrupt me even once while I am speaking. You will talk when I allow you to, or I will have to stick your lips together." No five seconds later Ron's lips were stuck together and no word could leave them.
Then the big outburst Harriet had been waiting to let out came and she deeply wished that everyone that lived near them either wouldn't hear them or would ignore the problem.
It was an outburst that should have come years ago, but Harriet had kept bottling up all her feelings, thinking nobody would care either way, and it all came out now. Ron had pulled that last straw and Harriet was completely done as she dumped everything on Ron. Not just the love potions, but also that he was never home, even while she was pregnant. It was always said that he was kept at work, but later George would always tell her he saw his brother at a bar or club.
Or how she felt in second year when everyone hated her because of her ability to speak parseltongue. That ability had not left her, and until now she had told no one except Ginny and Hermione, who had been very accepting of the fact and didn't judge her based on it. Harriet personally would have thought differently, based on how Hermione was petrified and Ginny almost killed, so their opinions were surprising, but in a good way.
While Harriet was yelling at Ron, who shrank back more and more each second, they didn't notice someone apparating in and listening to what Harriet was saying. And to say the least, that person was mad as hell. But since they wanted to know everything, they stood and watched.
And when Harriet had finished yelling about how Hermione was really her cousin who got taken away from her family and that her aunt was Sirius' sister, Ron somehow found some confidence as he stood up straight and shouted, "Why do you even care? Have I not done everything for you? You'd be on the streets if it wasn't for me! And if it wasn't for me, my children wouldn't even exist!"
Something inside the observer snapped as they yelled out the ginger man's name. Ron and Harriet flinched at that and turned to see a very angry Ginny Weasley standing there. But when she saw that the woman's gaze was directed at Ron as opposed to her, Harriet relaxed slightly and almost smiled when she saw Ron's expression. There was no shame, but it was fear. Fear of what his younger sister would do to him now that she knew everything.
"Do you realise what you have done, Ronald?" He shook his head. "You've broken the law. Several of them. And if they find out that you've done all that to the Woman-Who-Won of all people, all hell will break lose, do you know that?"
Ron gulped at the calm tone of voice Ginny had. Angry Ginny was one thing, but angry Ginny acting calm was the worst of the worst.
"Well-" He stopped, but then decided that now that he's started talking, he may as well continue.
"Well it's not like I've ever really loved her. The only reason I married her was the money. That's why we decided early on that we would dose Harriet with potions because she just didn't seem to fall for me without it. But even with the potions, she's horrible. I had been planning on divorcing for a while, but if I did, the Ministry would be sure to give her custody of the kids just because of her name."
He kept ranting on about how he had planned it all with Dumbledore and how proud he was, but Ginny had enough. She walked forward and slapped him right across the face while Harriet stood at the side, crying because she couldn't believe how someone she's known since she was 11 years old could be so cruel. But to be honest, she felt like she should have known. Ron had always been jealous of her fortune and fame, so marrying her gave him some of that, even though it was mostly as the husband of the Woman-Who-Won.
But Harriet also felt like it could've all gone differently, were the circumstances different. He was pretty left out as a child, being the youngest son of six and having his younger sister coddled while all he got were the cast-offs from his older brothers. That didn't mean that she thought he was in the right. She understood why he did it, from his perspective, but it was still wrong. No matter how jealous you are of someone, it doesn't warrant drugging someone with love potions just to get the fame and money. It really made Harriet feel like she was being used and she honestly didn't know who to trust anymore. It did seem like Ron was the only Weasley who participated in this, so that was a plus.
"Do you really think you can get away with this, Ronald Weasley?" Ginny asked him and Ron puffed out his chest, saying that he is not going to get caught because Dumbledore helped him and anything that Dumbledore did worked.
Now both women had enough. Ginny slapped Ron once more and Harriet apparated straight to the Ministry, linking the monitoring spell she had put on the children to Ginny, knowing the redhead would handle it for her and send Ron out of the house for a while if needed.
The 29-year-old instantly walked to the department that handled marriages, adoptions et cetera, and waited at the counter for the man behind it to acknowledge her. When he finally did, he looked like he was choking on air for a moment before catching himself.
"Mrs. Potter-Weasley, what brings you to this department today?" Nobody would expect Harriet Potter-Weasley to come asking for a divorce or to give her children up for adoption, so the only thing the man at the counter could think up was that the woman wanted to adopt a child.
"I am here to request divorce papers. Some things have recently come to my attention and it made me realise that my marriage was anything but meant to be. Where would I go for that?"
The man looked shocked, but stuttered out his answer. "I- you can do that right here. I have all the papers ready to sign. You would just have to get it signed by the Minister and your husband."
Harriet nodded. That she could do. "Could you give me the papers, please?"
And just ten minutes later, Harriet apparated back home with divorce papers signed by her and the Minister, ready to have it signed by Ron, who was very happy to do so, momentarily forgetting that he had planned to stay for toddler James, Albus and baby Lily.
What he didn't know, however, was that after divorcing his wife, he now had to go through a hell lot of shit if he wanted custody of his three children, especially since the woman he divorced was the most famous person in Wizarding Britain.
AN: As I said, here is another chapter for you all! You all know that this is going to be a time travel fanfic and even if Ron is horrible now, it will not stay like that when Harriet goes back in time. There will probably be some Weasley bashing in the beginning, but Harriet wouldn't stand for this.
