"Don't be worried," Edward whispered in her ear before kissing her hand, specifically on the wedding ring she had put back on. Bella shivered, smiling nervously as she tightened her grip on her husband's hand even more.

"I just don't know how they're going to take it..."

"They're so smart, they'll back us up." The young woman nibbled on her lower lip, and gasped as the school bell rang loudly, alerting the other parents to the imminent departure of the little ones. "Besides, you're not alone in this."

Bella looked at him then, he was as handsome as always in his formal clothes, although today he wasn't wearing a tie, his sleeves were rolled up and his coppery hair was messy thanks to the amount of times he had slid his fingers through it, several reckless mothers were also looking at him, even a couple of teachers already; but Edward didn't notice, he just had his eyes fixed on her, they were green, bright and for the first time transparent, she could finally see all the way to his soul, and yes, she liked everything she was seeing.

"You love me," she whispered almost in wonder making him laugh, pulling her into his arms.

"You've always been my life, you've always had me, everything I am is because of you, and I love you for that, I just wish I would have known how to handle my shit differently, I would have loved it if it didn't cost me so much."

"I'm proud of you, and I love you too," Bella repeated. "Always."

"Then relax," he smiled, looking over his shoulder, Bella tensed as well when she heard Sammy's shout. Forget about the problems, you have me now and we're going to be a real family.

O~O~O~O

"It's the first time you've both been here!" Elizabeth crooned in her beautiful little voice, throwing herself into his arms while Sam did the same with Bella.

His little girl wrapped her arms around his neck, and her fruity scent made him smile, comforting him in the only way a child can, that strange emptiness in his chest finally closed. The unconditional love he felt for his little ones no longer frightened him, on the contrary, it filled him with energy and the desire to be better just for them. Eli smiled hugging him and that melted him, every time he held her in his arms and looked at her, he thanked any deity for allowing him to have her in his life.

"Do you like it when we both come?" The girl smiled, showing that set of teeth where a couple of teeth were now missing, God, they were growing so fast.

"Yes, I like it. Hey, Daddy, I'm hungry, are you going to buy us hamburgers?" Edward laughed before giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"Only if you promise not to tell Mommy we eat hamburgers too often."

"Then can you buy me a phone?" Edward blinked a couple of times before chuckling.

"Not yet, you're too little for that, but I can buy you one later and a hamburger now, how about that?" She nodded, again with that funny, childish smile.

At the restaurant, Edward ordered the food and returned to the table where the children waited impatiently. He usually let them have fun playing games while the food arrived, and was even patient when sometimes they would just eat a little, go back to playing, and then come back for more food, even if it was already cold. At home he didn't allow them to do that, but heck, in a restaurant he had to kind of... suck it up. So now it didn't surprise him in the least that the children were looking at him so impatiently.

"Can we go there now?" Sammy pointed toward the huge play maze.

"First, we have something to tell you, Mom and I." For some reason Elizabeth's face grew serious, her smile dropping.

"Is it something bad?"

Bella tensed at her side, so Edward smiled reassuringly, interlacing his fingers with his wife's.

"No, on the contrary, we were... settling certain differences, like when you guys argue over toys and get angry? Well, now we've settled it."

"Are you coming home?" Sam asked with a frown, making him smile at her suspicion.

Boy, he should have just cut to the chase, huh?

"Yes, if you' d like that." And his heart skipped a beat when the twins smiled, in that way that made them almost as much alike as if they were identical twins. (1)

"Yes!" they crooned, getting up to hug him for a few seconds. "Does that mean Dad's your boyfriend again?" asked Sam, surprising them. Bella gasped at the question before blushing.

"Yes, he's my husband, honey," she emphasized, "he's more than a boyfriend." Sammy shrugged, clearly not understanding the difference.

"I'm glad you preferred Dad, he's more fun, do you want to know why?"

"But of course," Bella crooned, shooting Edward an amused look. The boy took a deep breath, as if he had been rehearsing the words, before giving him a look of absolute devotion that stopped his heart a couple of beats, his throat closing up, leaving him even dizzy. It was amazing to be able to arouse such feelings in his little boy.

"He knows how to make ties and lift weights. He can ride a bike better than anyone in my class and he draws amazing pictures, that makes him better than Jasper."

Edward tensed but didn't stop smiling at his little boy, seeing them happy did things to his heart that would scare any cardiologist. Besides, he could never be mad at them, Jasper was a painful reminder of how he nearly lost everything because of his stubborn attitude. His past was a murky mire of trauma, but the key word was past. His family' s future was the only thing that mattered now. He had already missed so much of his little ones' short lives. Too much. Those moments were gone forever and now he would live only to find a way to be home more often, to repay them for everything. His babies had been growing up without him. Bella was too nervous, so with a sigh he decided to stop mortifying himself over things he would no doubt fix, and holding his wife's anguished face, he deposited a soft kiss on her lips.

"So, Bella, will you be my girlfriend? As you can see, I have indisputable qualities over any guy who wants you, besides, I'm not that ugly." He winked at the children who smiled back at him. She blinked incredulously before laughing.

"So convincing... I accept to be your girlfriend, Edward." Then the children groaned in disgust as she threw herself into his arms and kissed him back.

"Can we go play now?" Eli squealed, the coppery one just waved his hand in a goodbye gesture, before digging his fingers into Bella's hair to deepen the kiss.

"You're so shameless, now because of you several parents see us as if we were a couple of degenerates," Edward whispered, pulling away with bated breath.

"They'll survive," she smiled, her eyes incredibly bright, "I don't know why I was so nervous; they took it like anything else in the end."

"They're children." He stroked her cheek. "But still, it's important for them to know and to understand that from now on we'll be fine. I promise."

After that, life had returned to normal, perhaps more so for Bella than for Edward. On the surface they were happy, building a future together and ironing out other issues, but even so, Edward could feel a wall of caution still surrounding his heart. He wouldn't take a second with Bella for granted. If he felt the need to touch her, he did, if he needed to kiss her, he didn't think twice. If she wasn't home and he missed her, he would go to the hospital to pick her up, he would invite her to lunch even if it was often just for a couple of seconds and she had to leave, he didn't care. He would wait for her outside the hospital whenever he could. And if they were at home, she was in his arms, or on his lap, or wherever he could feel her. It was a bit sickening and well, yes, he needed to take it easier, but time would help him, anyway she seemed to be more than happy with all his co-dependent attitudes.

"Is it really necessary for us to be like this?" Bella asked in his lap, giggling as she absentmindedly weaved her fingers through his hair.

Edward really liked that, making her laugh. He wanted to see her happy every day. She had known very few happy days in her life, and he wanted to make sure each and every one from now on made up for her shitty past. Tonight he had gone to pick her up from the hospital, and given the short time they had to see each other, he had bought dinner and they had shared it in the car.

Yes, definitely," he shook her tightly.

"So ridiculous." Her dark eyes sparkled. "As well as this sort of date, I'd rather... you know..." she smiled leaning down to his lips, giving him an otherwise hot kiss, and her tongue, shit, it was an erotic flick over his lower lip.

She was devilishly seductive, torture to behold and a real pleasure in bed. His hands seemed to take on a life of their own and cupped her breasts over her clothes. He began to seek his wife's tongue with his own and was rewarded with a deep moan of satisfaction, before Bella pressed herself to him harder, wiggling against his erection getting another surge of heat through him, and when she tugged at his hair, he raised his hips, ramming her instinctively over the clothes. Those tugs were the worst part. Every time her slender fingers stroked his hair or tugged at it, his skin tensed and heated as if he remembered how, they felt all over his body.

"Damn," he gasped, pulling away, "I want you so badly, I want to taste you all over. But I'm not going to make love to you now, this is a date, something we've never had."

"We've been on quite a few dates in the last few months," she countered, stroking his jaw.

"Yes, because we've done it all backwards, so let me fix it. Then, when we're done with the date, and after you're done with your shift, we'll go back home, and I'll make love to you until you can't walk. got it?"

"Understood," she assured with a chuckle.

"Thank you." He pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"Because I'll let you cripple me?" He smiled in denial, enjoying her delicate weight and the taste of her still on his tongue.

"For taking me back. You deserved so much more than what I gave you," he explained huskily.

"That may be," she agreed "but, like you, I couldn't see it either." She reached out and touched his lips with her fingertips.

Edward couldn't believe he'd almost missed it. He had been so damned caught up in the past that he couldn't see what was in front of him. Bella was magnificent, and he had almost lost her and the children.

"The first time we made love," he began in a rough voice, "I was with you, Bella, you've always had me. I promised you that nothing would be lacking at my side, but I was lying all the time; now I can assure you that everything I am and have, is yours." She stared at him before biting her lower lip.

"We were so young when you made that promise to me, but I'm glad to know that we've grown into the people we're supposed to be," she murmured, her eyes watery.

"I love you, Bella." She smiled, leaning against his lips.

"I know." Edward chuckled at the confidence oozing from her smug reply, before he took possession of her mouth again and showed her, once more, how much he loved her.

Bella had managed to bring out the best in Edward when even he himself didn't believe there could be any good inside him. Without a doubt, loving his wife was the best decision he had ever made in his life, and as he kissed her until they became almost one and the same, he knew that in a way they had always been, because he had lost himself along the way but found himself again in the same place, in those chocolate orbs to which he had always belonged.

1) Twins / identical twins: In Spanish we have different words for twins, depending on if they're identical or not. Mellizos = non identical / gemelos = identical (I hope I made myself clear!)

So, this is the end. Thank you so much for all the love you have given to this story. The epilogue will be up on Saturday
