Chapter 12
Skye couldn't keep herself still; she was nervous and excited to meet the rest of the Avengers and see what this compound was all about. Tony showed her a little on the controls to fly the jet but a lot of it just went over her head. Once they landed Skye smiled and she was ready for this a new chapter in her life.
"Ready to see your new home kid?" Tony smiled at her and she nodded at him,
"You guys go ahead I will grab the bags while you introduce her to everyone" Steve started grabbing all the bags piling them on a cart to carry them easier. Tony led Skye out of the jet and into the compound Skye's mouth dropped open.
"You really don't do anything half ass do you?" She still looked around in wonder as it was huge. Tony just laughed holding the door open for her. He took her to the common room where everyone was they all looked up at him,
"Is this why you called a meeting Tony?" Natasha asked, looking Skye up and down grinning like a cat with a new toy Skye waved awkwardly.
"Yes, I wanted you all to meet the newest Avenger. Skye" Tony said proudly Clint was the first to approach them.
"I'm Clint nice to meet you Skye" Skye shook his hand smiling he stood by her turning to them he started to point.
"That is Natasha, or Nat" Natasha smiled at the her,
"That is Rhodey, Wanda, Vision, and Sam" they all smiled to her and said hello Skye looked back at Tony as he was still smiling at her.
"Where is Steve?" Sam asked and Tony pointed behind him,
"He offered to unload the jet"
"I am going to go help him, nice to meet you Skye" Sam said before jogging out of the room.
"It is great to meet you all, face to face" Skye said again not sure what to do next, but Natasha stood up.
"Tony, do you have a room ready for her already?" Tony nodded and Natasha tilted her head for Skye to follow,
"Come on I will show you around" Skye looked at Tony one last time before following Natasha out of the room.
Skye was still in complete shock as Natasha showed her the compound the last stop was the training room,
"Are you combat trained Skye?" Natasha asked and Skye nodded.
"Yes, I train with Melinda May. She was, or is my SO" Skye said, not sure if she still had an SO.
"I know Melinda and she never takes on Rookies so you must be special to her. If you want I can help continue to train you while you are here?" Natasha offered,
"That would be amazing, I don't want to get out of shape and the last couple months I haven't done much just running and Tai Chi with Steve" Skye said and Natasha grinned at that.
"Steve did Tai Chi?"
"He is actually pretty good at it for an old man" They both laughed before they heard a pointed cough from the doorway Steve stood there glaring at Skye which made her laugh even harder.
"Hey Capsicle we were just talking about you" Skye said sweetly, Steve just smiled and shook his head.
"Did Nat show you to your room yet?" he asked and Skye shook her head no,
"Well come on I put all your stuff in there you might want to unpack"
"Thank you Natasha for showing me everything and offering to keep training me. What time do you usually start?"
"6am sharp we will start tomorrow morning, and call me Nat" she smiled as Steve placed his hand on Skye's back leading her out of the training room. Natasha smiled at that too watching them walk out.
Steve showed Skye to her room on the 3rd floor once he opened the door her mouth dropped open,
"This is one big room, are you sure this one is mine?" She turned to look at Steve who was smiling at her, almost laughing.
"I felt the same when I first came here, I was so used to the military barracks or a small apartment. You get used to it though and sometimes it is nice to be able to have your own space." Skye went to sit on the overly large bed feeling how soft it is and looking at her bags on the edge of the bed.
"Thank you Steve, for everything you've done for me so far." He just leaned against the door smiling softly.
"You are part of our team now too, Skye. I will always have your back. I am just across the hall too if you need anything but I would suggest unpacking for now who knows what Tony has planned next. Skye laughed as Steve turned and closed the door leaving her in the huge room. She fell back on the bed. Everything was going so fast but she felt calm here, she felt welcomed and safe.
Once Skye was done unpacking she made her way downstairs to the common room Tony announced that he was ordering pizza for dinner and that they would all eat together as a team. Skye observed the Avengers noticing how close Wanda and Vision were, how Sam and Steve always joked around each other. Natasha and Clint always whispering and sometimes laughing, Rhodey and Tony pouring drinks, they were truly a family here and Skye just felt lucky to even witness what she guessed a lot of people don't. Someone coughed behind her and she jumped a little. She turned to see a beautiful woman in heels and business suit.
"You must be Skye, my name is Pepper" she shook Pepper's hand slowly, finally recognizing her as Tony's partner.
"It is great to finally meet you!" Skye finally said smiling at the woman, Tony saw the exchange and walked over to them giving Pepper a kiss on the cheek, Skye smiled at how cute it was.
"Welcome to the compound if there is anything you need and I mean anything you just let me know okay? Clothes, makeup, hygiene products, shoes, anything I will get it for you" Skye nodded noting how genuine Pepper really was with her offer.
Stepping away from Tony, she took Skye's arm in hers,
"I want to know everything about you" Pepper started and Skye just smiled, letting Pepper lead her away and over to the bar as she poured her and Skye a drink.
Pepper asked Skye all sorts of questions but none about family which Skye was thankful for and probably had Tony to thank for that. It was nice talking to Pepper, they drank and talked for about an hour until Tony said it was time to eat. They all sat around a big table with Steve sitting next to her and Natasha on her other side.
"So Skye, any powers?" Sam asked while they all dug into their food, Skye looked up at Tony. He seemed to say 'up to you if you want to tell them right away'. Skye smiled at Sam,
"I do actually, I can create and manipulate vibrations" Sam's eyes looked a little confused and Skye smiled and looked to his water glass reaching out her hand she began to make the glass whistle, Sam's clapped and started to laugh but Skye thought back to when her mother taught her that and her face fell hand going into her lap.
Steve and Tony saw the shift in her eyes and Steve gripped her hand under the table. She looked at him sadly but smiled at him. Natasha gave Steve a questioning look but he slowly shook his head at her.
"That is crazy, what else can you do?" Sam said, not noticing the shift in her eyes and mood, but Skye forced a smile telling him about her powers, how she can increase her vibrations to create Earthquakes and more. They were still eating and talking when FRIDAY came over the intercom,
"Mr. Stark you have a call in the lab" The AI said and Tony stood up excusing himself.
IN THE LAB
"Stark I sent you those files you should have them now" May said on the screen he could tell she was in Coulson's office but didn't see him anywhere.
"Got them, thanks May anything else?" he asked as she still stood there crossing her arms,
"Are you going to tell me what you need the blood for now?" She said face blank,
"I will if there is something worth telling, don't worry this is staying with me." He assured her but she didn't look convinced but trusted him at least with Skye.
"Fine but keep me updated, how is she settling in?" she asked and he knew she was worried,
"She is fitting in perfectly May" he told her she just nodded and hung up. Tony rubbed his face before he felt someone behind him,
"Are you going to run the test?" Steve asked, sitting on one of the stools, he followed Tony about 5 minutes after he left making sure Skye was okay first.
"Yes I am, I need to know" Tony said, taking out a needle and drawing his own blood. Steve watched him upload it into the computer and could see he already got Skye's.
"How long will the test take?"
"24 hours, I will know by tomorrow if they match or not" Tony rubbed his face again he was exhausted.
"How is she doing?" he asked Steve knowing they both saw her mood change at dinner.
"Fine, I think something just triggered a memory but she was laughing with Nat and Pepper when I left. She is a strong woman Tony" Tony looked at him a little closer narrowing his eyes Steve just put up his hands,
"Just an observation don't get over protective" Steve stood and told Tony to get some rest before going to the bar and pouring a large drink for himself even though he couldn't get drunk it would take the edge off.
"You okay there Cap?" Skye came up beside him pouring herself another drink she was already swaying slightly Steve just chuckled a little.
"Are you sure you should be drinking more? You seem like you've had quite a bit already" Skye just scrunched her nose at him,
"Hey it isn't my fault I was challenged to do shots with Nat and she cheated" Steve just shook his head of course Natasha did.
"Not my fault you are a lightweight little one" Natasha strolled up pouring herself a drink seeming fine,
"How are you not affected at all?" Skye got out swaying a little more toward Steve he put his arm around her waist to help hold her up Natasha winked at him and he narrowed his eyes at her, so this was her doing.
"Because as Steve can tell you having serum in you affects how alcohol affects your body, so my serum isn't as strong as his, but it takes a lot to get me drunk."
"So you cheated, that is so not fair" Skye said, slurring a little while taking a long drink. Steve gently took the drink away from her once she put it down she frowned at him.
"I think you've had enough, you can barely stand up" he laughed as she swayed trying to stand up on her own.
"Maybe you should help her to her room Captain" Natasha winked at him again before walking off,
"Oh and Skye 6am don't forget training" Natasha said over her shoulder and Skye cursed. Steve looked down at her, shocked she laughed at his face.
"Sorry old man" she laughed harder and he just helped her stand and walked her to her room.
Once they got in the room Steve set Skye gently on the bed before she grabbed his arm and pulled him down next to her laying back, she looked at him.
"Do you still feel like a man out of time?" she asked seriously, he looked up at the ceiling.
"Sometimes I do, but I have come to love the time I am in. I lost everyone but gained a new family and I am grateful I was able to." he told her honestly and she sighed.
"Do you ever wish you could go back?"
"No, what happened in the past I want it to stay in the past knowing what I know now, I wouldn't want to go back." he looked at her and her eyes were tearing up,
"I wish I could go back, do it all over again. Make different choices." He took her hand gently,
"The choices that got you here no matter how painful, I am thankful they brought you to us, Skye. We can be your family if you let us" she smiled softly nodding at him.
"Sleep Skye, we both have training in the morning and Nat doesn't like people being late no matter how much they drink" he saw her laugh softly, he kissed her forehead lifting her to her pillow and placing a blanket over her,
"Sleep tight Skye"
