I almost decided against writing this one but it is the last of the three stories buzzing in my head, so it deserves to be written out too. So, here we go again. Take 3.

Blind

Chapter 1

It wasn't hard to pinpoint when things changed between Ranger and I. It was harder to work out the why.

Calling it quits with Joe was probably one of the reasons that I knew about. But I'm sure there was more going on behind the scenes than I knew. Joe and I had been off for a solid 4 months and he was happily dating a school teacher called Rachel. I was 90% happy for him and only 10% jealous, and I thought that pretty big of me.

It was an average Tuesday evening. It was hot in my crappy apartment and I had already eaten half a tub of ice cream. I was in a great mood, two easy captures today which had added to my decent nest egg that I was pretty happy with. Only a year ago I'd been living month to month with rent and bills, and now here I was sitting on nearly 10k worth of savings. Capturing the Rug had helped, as well as Lula and I just generally upping our game. We had a routine; we were still more Bert and Ernie than Batman and Robin but we were having fun doing it.

I had music on spotify playing and I was dancing round my lounge in tiny short shorts and a tank top. I'd had a glass of white wine and I was shimmying round the room like it was the hottest bar in town, singing my lungs out.

The locks on my door tumbled and in came Ranger. He took in the whole scene with a single glance and 200 watt smile grew on his face.

"Babe." He said, still grinning.

I stepped up to him and pulled him to the middle of the lounge, still dancing away. It took him only a beat to decide to shelve his "badass Ranger" and pull out his "Cuban dancing Ranger". This was better than any club, just him and me. The rest of the world floated away.

I got him a glass of wine in between songs and let myself have another half with some soda in. He was still smiling. He'd hardly stopped as we'd danced to song after song. I guess Batman liked dancing. Who would've guessed? I gave him a smirk as I changed songs. I popped Buena Vest Social Club on, Candela.

His eyes darkened and he started to dance sensually with me, pulling my close, leading me as we weaved round my lounge. He whispered the translation of the song in my ear as we moved together. We were so close there was really no space between us. I could feel he was affected by our dancing as I was. I took over leading the dance, and danced us right into my bedroom. Ranger is the best dancer I've ever moved against and horizontally he was even better.

I woke the next morning at 9 and I expected an empty bed. Instead Ranger was still in bed with me. His leg over my leg and every aspect of our bodies were cuddled close.

"Good morning," I said, with what I imagine is my own 200 watt smile. I was thrilled to find him here.

Ranger gave me a long slow kiss. "Good morning Babe."

"It's 9am on a Wednesday, aren't you going to catch flack for this? You've normally run 20 miles and saved the planet by now."

"Only 5 miles, and probably just Trenton. Sometimes New Jersey."

I giggled and planted another kiss on his shoulder. "I deserved a lie in," Ranger said with a smug smile. "After all, we were dancing all night long. I needed some actual sleep."

He wasn't wrong. I was sore all over in the most delicious of ways.

"I've got a meeting at 10, so I do need to get going but I just wanted to wake up with you." Ranger gave me another sweet kiss.

"How about we shower together and save some time?"

He sent me the wolf smile. "I don't think it's going to save time, but I'm up for the challenge."

Half an hour later and he was giving me a fast kiss as he all but ran to his car. Ranger didn't like being late.

For me being up and dressed by 9.30 was a win. I had a few active files so I started on those first. My first file was Louisa Trellano. We had gone to school together and I was confident I could talk her into coming with me. It was prime time because she would have dropped off her kids and hopefully be home doing housework. I decided to roll solo on this one, Lula could tell my "I've just had 12 orgasms" face a mile off.

As anticipated Louisa came in easily and I decided to go to lunch at my parents. Grandma Mazur was out but I had a nice chat with mom, not to mention the best meatloaf sandwich ever.

After lunch I decided to run down another active file, Luke Medosa. Wanted on a shoplifting charge. His file said he was protesting the charges as false and I expect he hadn't attended out of a false sense of outrage. He was at home when I pulled up. He was dressed in a white leather one piece and a feather boa. Frankly, he looked fabulous, and I told him so.

"Well thank you darling, aren't you the one?" he said. If I hadn't been clued in by the outrageous outfit, the camp voice had also clued me in to his sexuality. Not that it mattered to me, I brought them in dead or alive, gay or straight, black or white. I didn't see Race or Creed, just people.

Luke came with me, since he was obviously looking his best, and I called Connie and arranged a rebooking asap as apparently Luke had plans this evening.

I was just about to pull out of the cop shop when my phone rang with the Batman theme.

"Hi Ranger." I said, smiling.

"Yo Babe. You want to grab something to eat?"

"Sure, my place or yours?" His was a 7 floor office building complete with luxury penthouse apartment and 1000 cotton sheets.

"Mine," said Ranger, "Ella can cook us something good and we can see if my water tank lasts longer than yours did this morning."

I laughed, "sure thing. What time do you want me?"

"I always want you," he said, voice low and gravelly. "But I'll be wrapped up with work at 6. Just head on up to 7 whenever you like."

"Ok, Bye Ranger."

"Bye Babe." And that was when I knew something had changed between us. He actually said bye!
