Chapter 1

Perhaps driving into a spinning, humming red portal would not be one of the smartest decisions made in life. But if it meant skipping the drive to Mistral and being able see Ruby and Uncle Qrow again? Then Yang would consider it worth it. With Weiss holding on to her back Yang slowly entered the portal. It was a weird feeling to say the least. When they came out the other side into a small patch of grass with a spare few of trees surrounding them it was without a doubt that they had teleported somewhere else. Because despite the instant teleportation to this new spot, Yang tried to rev her bike forward, but it kept making sounds like the engine was dying. When Yang looked down at the fuel gauge, she was surprised to see that it was basically on empty. It wasn't completely full beforehand, but it was at around half before she entered the portal. I guess Raven didn't bother to tell her about that, but Yang couldn't say she was surprised by it. Yang sighed before setting the kickstand down and getting off the bike with Weiss.

"Bumblebee's out of gas. But at least we made to Mistral." Yang said doing a quick lookover her bike to make sure there was nothing else wrong with it.

"I would call that a worthy trade off, wouldn't you?" Weiss said shooting a smile towards her teammate.

Yang glanced up with a small smile herself and said, "Yeah, I guess. But now we gotta push it into Mistral."

"We?" Weiss said with a snarky tone and a smirk.

"Yeah. We." Yang responded in kind.

So, they began pushing the bike through the forest of sorts towards where they could here a faint noise emanating from, assuming that it was Mistral. They trekked in relative peace just focusing on ahead as Yang pushed and Weiss stood to the side with her occasionally helping to push. However, something was off for Weiss. They have been walking for almost twenty minutes now and there was no sight not sound of any Grimm. And they weren't far from the kingdom judging by the sound of life getting just a little louder the longer they walked, so why wasn't there a mass of Grimm? Grimm have been recorded to stay near the walls and gates of the kingdoms, not to close to be killed but close enough to strike if something happened. She glanced over to Yang to see if she was having the same questions as her. But Yang's eyes were solely locked forward. She didn't look around at all and just kept straight. Weiss would have compared her to a robot, but every once in awhile Yang would blink letting her know that Yang was in fact still human, although there was something wrong with her partner. Back at Beacon Yang was energetic and had a bright air about her. Now, it was cold and muted. The only emotion Weiss had seen since they reunited was mostly anger outside of their hug. Perhaps once they got to Mistral they could sit down with her and figure it all out.

About an hour of walking later they finally made to the edge of the forest. The sky slowly got darker and the lights of Mistral were shining over the tops of the trees for the huntresses. They pushed through the shrubbery and exited the forest. They were greeted to a tall box-like building with multiple levels to it. It was odd because they were expecting to see the walls of Mistral but, they shook it off and Yang suggested that they were probably already in the kingdom and Weiss very reluctantly agreed despite something telling her that something was wrong with this whole situation, but her want to see her teammate and friends won out in the end.

It didn't take long for Weiss' initial suspicions to bear fruit. There were signs posted near the roads with strange writing, the amount of buildings in the little portion they stepped into was almost staggering. Vale nor Atlas even had this many buildings in any given area other than maybe the very center of the kingdoms, but from what Weiss could see they weren't even close to the center of the kingdom. Even Yang was looking around with frustrated eyes as she looked around.

"I've never been to Mistral before, but…this feels strange. Right?" Yang asked as she glanced at Weiss.

"Yes. This… is very strange." Weiss answered glancing back around their surroundings, "I've been to Mistral before when I was little, but this feels completely new."

Yang let out a frustrated sigh, "Ugh. I swear if Raven did something I- "

"No, I don't think she did anything." Weiss cut Yang off, "Did you recognize any of those signs we passed?"

"No. I've never seen any symbols like them before."

"Neither have I." Weiss said trying to wrap her head around their situation.

The sky had gone full dark at the time they wound up on in a busier area. Yang and Weiss expressed worried glances as they stood off to the side staring out at the people walking down the sidewalks. The sheer amount of people was insane to what they had seen back in Vale, but what really caught their attention were the people casually walking amongst the others with very strange appearances and mutations. They saw a person with hands sticking out of their head, a person with a literal bear for a head, and many other abnormal features and traits. Yes, they had seen faunas before, but these people looked like the animal put on a nice suit and decided to take up job at an office building. This was too much. They decided it would be better to stay to the alleyways behind buildings until they had a better understanding of their surroundings.

"Weiss you saw that right?" Yang said with wide eyes and confusion evident in her voice, "I'm not going crazy, right?"

Weiss swallowed as she thought back to the woman that was entirely made of glass. "I saw it, I'll admit that I'm having a hard time comprehending it though."

"No shit! What the hell is going on!?" Yang said in frustration as she stopped pushing her bike to try and make sense of the whole situation.

However, they were both taken out of there thoughts by the sound of boots hitting the concrete alleyway behind them. They both turned around to see a small group of thugs approaching them with sadistic grins. The apparent leader of the group stepped forward staring down at the two huntresses being a few feet taller than them.

He looked like a typical thug you would see in a movie or comic book setting. Leather jacket, scar on the face, toothy mean grin, and shaggy dirty looking appearance. "What're a couple of young girls like yourself doin' out this late?" he asked.

The huntresses shared a look and Yang stepped forward with a fierce glare and crossed arms, "None of your business. Now step off."

Yang's glare only seemed to make the guy's smile wider, "Oh. Your feisty ain't ya'?" He said as his little cronies behind him slowly spread out to the side.

/=/

Yang watched the others spread out the corner of her eye and she swore she could hear Weiss roll her eyes. Yang internally smirked and returned her attention to the guy in front of her, "Trust me buddy, you have no idea. Now, I'll say it again, Step. Off." Her eyes unconsciously switched to red, but the guy was clearly to dense in the head to understand the meaning of it as he let out a sharp laugh as he brought his hand up to rub it through his hair.

Yang could see it clear as day. The way his arm suddenly flexed while on his head. She heard the shuffling sound of his cronies' feet getting ready to launch forward towards Weiss behind her. Yang shook her head internally as the guy whipped his hand down with a thick coat of grease from his nasty hair in a chop strike aimed for her neck to catch her off guard. Too bad for the guy that Yang was not in the mood for it. Yang casually deflected the strike with her left arm as she struck his gut with her robotic right arm and sent the guy flying onto the ground clearly surprised by her speed and power. She dodged a swing from a sword and decked the guy that tried to hit her before switching to another one that threw some weird lavender ball at her and she caught the thing and through it back at the woman hitting her in the head and caving her into the brick building. She glanced to Weiss to see her deflect a strike and jab the thug in the ribs with her weapon making them crumple in pain. And she then proceeded to freeze the other two in a block of ice. Yang smirked at her partner, only to receive a yank from her head by the leader she knocked down as he grabbed her hair and swung her into the other building that hadn't been damaged yet. Yang made a slight dent in the building with a small grunt as her aura took the hit, but she quickly opened her eyes to see the guy had a lock of her hair in his hand that he used to yank her.

The leader was smirking thinking that he had took out the blondie only to see her eyes become sharper with a glare ten times greater than the one from before and then a sudden flare of fire exploded around her as she extended some yellow thing on her wrist and launched forward. He threw a punch, but it was nothing compared to her speed and he received another gut punch and then an uppercut to his jaw with an added force from her wrist things.

The leader fell to the ground in a heap unconscious to the world. Yang sighed a let her semblance die down as she spit towards the guy and went back towards Weiss who had been ready to jump in if necessary. The heiress gave a sigh and gave a brief smile towards Yang which the blonde returned. However, they were interrupted by the sound of police pulling up at the end of the alleyway aiming at the girls yelling something at them. Even though they couldn't understand what was being said they both raised their hands in the air. They heard a sound behind them before their hands were bound together above their heads by some bandage looking thing. They remained calm despite the bandage thing and tried to be as cooperative as possible with the authorities that were busy arresting the thugs they had fought against. Not too long after they got the crooks situated in the cop cars did they approach the huntresses for questioning, or least that was what it looked like to the two.

Their hands were finally let loose by the scraggly haired guy with yellow goggles over his eyes as the bandages returned to the man to look like a scarf. The man kept a trained eye on them however, ready to stop them just in case. The police officers in front of them approached and said something, but it wasn't anything either of them had heard before.

"I'm sorry but we can not understand you sir." Weiss responded hoping that maybe the mostly cat officer would understand them, but he was clearly confused judging by his eyebrow rising. "Umm…Mr. Tama…Tamaka…wa? We are from Vale coming to see our friends and family after the tragedy that happened." Weiss said.

The cat man clearly didn't understand anything other than Weiss trying to say his name, so he leaned down into his radio and said something into it. Yang sighed. She just wanted to see her sister, what the hell was with all this? This was supposed to be Mistral, so why does everything feel so wrong? She was tired, confused, anger, and a bunch of other different things and none of this was helping. Especially not this dude that was staring a hole into the back of her head. She glanced back at the guy and said, "Yo, can you stop staring at me?"

The guy didn't say anything and just continued to stare at Yang, now looking her in the eyes. It was frustrating the blonde to no end and she was about ready to give the dude a piece of her mind, if it wasn't for Weiss grabbing her left arm and squeezing it in support. Yang looked at the heiress who gave her a small smile and said, "I know you're aggravated, but we need to stay calm. I'm just as confused as you are, and I would much rather be anywhere else right now, but for now…we need to go along with this. Okay?"

Yang blinked once, then twice, then she closed her eyes and let out a sigh carrying her frustration away. She opened her eyes and nodded her head to Weiss. Thankfully, the cat man was done talking and they were being directed towards the officer's car. With no better options they got into the back with the cat man driving and the shaggy haired guy taking passenger. About two minutes later they arrived at a police station and were led inside to a classic interrogation room that you would see on TV. The one-way mirror, single table with two chairs, and concrete walls to make the criminals stew and wait in anticipation. All it did was annoy Yang further. If it wasn't for Weiss being around, Yang was sure she would have been yelling or doing something at this point.

The cat man opened the door and he tried to commune food with them to see if they were hungry, which they were able to communicate back that they were. Not long later they got some bowls of ramen, the act of eating calmed Yang's nerves down a tad and it helped that the food was good. Something she could tell that Weiss agreed on when she looked over at the heiress. About thirty minutes later the door opened and a man in a long tan trench coat stepped inside along with the shaggy guy. The guy had short brown hair with white gloves on and some suit on underneath his big trench coat. He sat down across from them in a chair he brought in with him giving them a friendly smile. He pulled out a notepad and scribbled something onto it before setting it down and sliding it across the table towards the two.

Yang looked at the writing but couldn't make anything out of it. It just looked like random lines designed into weird shapes and symbols. She shook her head and Weiss did the same. The guy pulled the notebook back flipping it to a different page writing something else down. He slid it over, and Yang was surprised to see that she could read it. It said 'Hello' on it and the two nodded their heads.

"Hello." The man then said with a weird accent of some kind on it, but it was at least something they understood.

"Hello." Weiss responded happy to finally be able to speak without confusion.

"Well, it is good to finally understand one another miss…"

"Weiss Schnee."

"Yang Xiao-Long"

The man seemed slightly confused hearing Weiss' name, but quickly recovered saying, "It is nice to meet you two. My name is Noamasa Tsukauchi."

"Nice to meet you sir." Weiss responded as kind as possible while Yang just nodded her head with her arms crossed.

Tsukauchi flipped to a different page on his notebook then said, "I am a detective and I was called earlier because I was given word that there were two ladies that could not speak the native language. And on top of that, they had gotten into some fight with a few thugs. So, if you two do not mind, I would like to ask a couple questions before I am able to let you two go if that is alright?" They both nodded their heads in the yes.

"Wonderful, first up, what were you two doing before the fight occurred?" The man's smile was still there but his eyes almost seemed to zoom or expand after he asked the question. It was kind of creepy, but she let Weiss take the lead.

"We were trying to find a landmark of some kind to get our bearings since we had just arrived." Weiss said.

"Just arrived? Like from the airport?"

"No, we used a…uh," Weiss looked her way silently asking if she should say how they got there, Yang nodded her head, "…we arrived by a portal."

The man's head perked up at the information jotting it down on his notebook, smile ever present. "Portal. Interesting. Where did you two portal from exactly, if you do not mind my asking?"

Weiss held her breath as she glanced to Yang. Yang thought for a second contemplating whether to tell the man about the Branwen tribe or not, she shook her head and said, "We came from a forest outside of Mistral."

The man held a stare with her. His eyes trying to bore through her and look for something, probably a lie, but Yang stared back not budging an inch. The man then wrote something down on his notebook and looked back to the too before asking another question, "Tell me, what continent is this Mistral on?"

Yang and Weiss looked at each other with confusion. Was this guy pulling their leg? It was obvious at this point that this place was clearly not Mistral, but still, that question didn't make sense. Weiss seemed to regain herself as she said, "Um…it is on the continent of Anima. I'm sorry, but where are we?"

The man jotted down something with a quirk in his eyebrow saying, "Interesting." He looked back up at the two and said, "Maam, you two are in Japan. Specifically, Musutafu, Japan."

Yang thought over the name, but nothing came to mind. She never heard of a continent called Japan. She would admit that geography wasn't her strong suit, but she was fairly certain on this.

"I'm sorry but I have never heard of this place before. Is this place new or…" Weiss asked at a lost for words.

"I'm afraid not. Japan has been around for centuries, and the same could be said for our city too." The man said causing even more confusion for the two. That just didn't make sense. Yang could already feel a headache coming on. "This…this is fascinating. Tell me, what is the name of your world?"

The name of our world? What? Yang sighed in frustration her anger growing ever so slightly, "What do you mean, 'the name of your world?' Its called Remnant. Look man, if you're messing with us, I will personally kick your ass." Yang said as she stood up with her red eyes boring into the detectives almost black ones. The shaggy dude stopped leaning on the wall and had taken a step forward after seeing her outburst. Yang glared at the guy ready to fight if he tried.

"I promise you miss. I am in no way messing with you, either of you." The man said standing up and holding out his hands in a placating manner. "I am just as confused as the both of you. The places you have named are nothing I have ever heard of before."

Yang continued to glare at the guy, but she felt a tug on her arm from Weiss as she tried to pull her back into her seat. She sat down with a huff letting Weiss take control of the situation.

"Sir, can we see a map. I have no reason to believe that you are lying, but this all just so confusing." Weiss said.

The man nodded and stepped out of the room leaving the shaggy guy behind with them. After a few minutes he returned with a paper and handed it over to the heiress. Her eyes widened upon seeing the image and Yang leaned over with a similar reaction. This wasn't right. Nothing about this map looked right. No Anima, no Sanus, no Atlas. Nothing from Remnant. Yang felt her headache turn into a migraine as she rubbed her eyes hoping beyond hope that maybe her eyes were just playing tricks on her, but nope. It was still the same. Weiss didn't look any better as she stared off into the distance. Yang grabbed her hand a gave it a squeeze for support. There was a very light squeeze back, but she was still staring off.

The man had gotten up from his seat and was now discussing something with the shaggy dude. The shaggy guy was skeptical that much she could tell, but the more they talked the more his face seemed to loosen up and reluctantly accept what the detective was saying. Weiss then jerked and stood up out of her seat and was heading for the door.

"Wait miss!" The detective said holding a hand out towards Weiss about to open the door.

The shaggy dude whipped out his scarf thing, but Yang was quick to jump up and block his path toward her friend. She unfurled her gauntlet and got into a boxing stance ready to defend herself and Weiss. She asked, "Weiss, what's going on?"

"We need to see the moon." Weiss said back. Yang thought for a second, why? Wait. If the moon was broken, then we would know for sure.

"Alright. Good thinking." She said keeping her eye on the shaggy dude. He hadn't made another move just yet, but Yang wasn't sure how long he would stay like that. Besides, this guy was aggravating her all night, she wouldn't be sorry for beating him up.

However, the detective held up a hand to the shaggy dude and said, "The moon? Is there something with it that you need to see?"

"Yes. If we can see the moon we will know for sure if everything you have said tonight is true." Weiss stated looking back towards the guy.

The man took a small step forward with a smile and his hands out in front of him, "Okay, we can do that. But we need to escort you out there. For your safety and others, okay?"

Yang scoffed, "Look man, I'm sure you're not bad, but how do we know that you haven't been tricking us or something? Fake maps, lying, all we want to do is look at the moon. No escorts, no tricks, just us. Got it?"

Shaggy tensed up, but the detective nodded along and reached for a radio clipped to his shirt. He said something into it before putting it down and saying, "Alright, we can do that, but we will still need to stay near. We need to keep an eye on you just in case. Is that alright?"

Yang looked back to her partner for an answer and she received a nod. "Alright, but we're leaving first."

The man nodded and Weiss opened the door. On the other side were a group of officers with their hand on pistols ready for any sudden moves by the two. They slowly left the precinct exiting out a back door that they were directed to with the two men following behind.

Once outside, the cool night air hit Yang's skin relieving her muscles as she stepped down some concrete steps into a parking garage with a metal lamp shining above, the officers behind watching with anticipation. They took a few more steps before stopping and both looked at each other. Weiss had an undiscernible look across her face except for a small form of fear deep within her eyes. Yang couldn't blame her, she was sure her eyes held that same fear as well. Once they looked up it would prove everything. The map, this place, the people, everything. Yang swallowed heavily and took a deep breath seeing Weiss do the same. They both nodded their heads to each other and looked up.

And there, sitting amongst the blackness of space surrounded by a million different little stars was the shining moon. It was full. Not even a single crack across its surface.
