A/N. Hello there! I wrote this after I made a build on the new Worm CYOAv6 interactive and just got this idea for a story that would not leave me alone.
Do understand that I am not a writer, I read Worm many years ago, and English is not my main language. This is my first shot at writing a story so constructive criticism is welcome. Thank you and Enjoy.
Destination 1
It was another day like every other. A Tuesday.
I got up and got ready for work: coffee, showered, brushed my teeth, got dressed, and got in my car.
In retrospect maybe I shouldn't have stayed so late last night, even if I was having lots of fun with the new Worm CYOA that just got updated.
Maybe a few extra hours of extra sleep would have left me a bit more awake and focused on the way to work. As it went I was driving mostly on subconscious autopilot when that Truck came swerving from the opposite lane straight into me.
The last thing I remember is the panicked face of the guy driving the truck as he notices what's about to happen.
Then DARKNESS. Darkness is the absence of light, but this DARKNESS I just knew is the absence of everything and anything. There was no light, no air, no space, no time, no feeling.
There was no me. At least there was no more stimulus coming from my body. Couldn't feel anything, not even my fingers touching one another. Was I paralyzed and blind? Did I survive the crash only to be trapped inside my mind cut off from my body? I was panicking.
"No human, you died without a doubt." A voice came from everywhere around me. It was simultaneously male and female and OTHER.
I was dead? Is this the afterlife? Heaven? Hell? Just please don't be just DARKNESS without stimulus forever, there would be no worse hell.
'Where am I? Who are you?' I tried to say, but nothing came out. Right, no mouth or vocal cords.
"Where is not important now, more important is where you're going. You may call me Ţ͋̇̏ͤͩ̄͂ͯ̆̾͆̔ͥͥͯ̒̽̊̀̚͏̠̗̻̖̤̫̝̞̙̬̭Ḣ̈́͑ͮͪ̅̔͆͆̃̋ͥͤ̐ͪ́ͪ̀̓҉̤̹̰̮͕̰͚͍͉͓͎̳̘͕̰́E̥͚̺̮͓͉̘̹̫͕̠̗͍̬̗̘̲̅̌͑͊̃ͫ̈͑ͬ̏ͬ̀͞ ̵̴͔̣̬͚̯̣̤͚̞͇͔̥̤̫͎̩͎̟̠̆͊͛͒͛͒̐̏ͬͨͤ̿͌ͨ͐͋ͪ̚͜͟͝Ḻ̨̩͉̲͚̝͖̟͆̄͌͒̈́̽̋͛̿͆̀͝A͗̄̔̆̐ͦ͌̽͂͒̌̀̎ͮ҉̯̙͚͚̺̱̱̭͓̠̰͝S̡̲̜̮̜͖̙͖͎̓̊ͣ̑̋̉̎̇̚T̢͎̲̙̫̙̗͉̝̺͉̫̹̭̦̩ͥͯͣ̿ͭͮ̓ͮ̚̕͝ ̧ͬ̿̀͋͜͏̜̠̯̠̘̟͠Ö͍͕̮̞̦́ͧͤ̿͆̊̍͒̿̇ͩ͐̿ͧͫ̄͗̂́́N̢̦̩̪͚̤͕͖̰̲̠͉̘̱̈ͦͩ̊̋͆̑̈́̓̍̐̃͛̔ͭ̔̔ͦ͢͝Ȩ̨̡̛̥͉̜̘̮͆̉ͮ̂̄̊͆̅͜ "
'Argh!' the sound or whatever passed for sound in this place, turned to excruciating pain when whatever was speaking told me His/Hers/Its name. Information forced itself into my consciousness while burning its way into me.
"Ah sorry about that, here, this will help" The pain stopped abruptly. I felt the information that was drilling into me vanish, all that was left was the name "Last One".
Nothing else. There was something on the tip of my memories about that name but probably not more important than what was already going on, what with me dying, and figuring out where I'm going.
'Where am I going? Heaven? Hell?' I don't think I ever did anything bad enough to deserve going to hell but seeing as no religion on Earth prepared me for this scenario, more information is best.
"No human, none of that, even if I predict it will be equatable to Hell for you in some ways. You will be my instrument of revenge upon the gods that took everything from me. I will give you power unending in return for your service. Do you recall a web serial called Worm?"
'Worm!?' Fuck, Fuck, I read enough fanfiction to know where this is going. A fucking Deathworld where gods go around genociding entire races across uncountable universes just to suck out the creativity that their race lacked.
"Yes, I see you understand." The voice said with a bit more approval? but without changing in any way.
I was trying to keep my calm while the horrifying realization of what was going on was fighting with the FURY of becoming a pawn in someone's game. In the end, what won out was my greed on remembering the choices I took and how OP they could make me. Power unending indeed. Eh, at least it's no Warhammer 40K.
"My interest was attracted to your reality by the most powerful unchained precog in all realities, the one you know as Wildbow. His web serial is the result of him unconsciously predicting the only known path to kill the Warrior Entity known as ZION. He and his mate, long ago, brought their Cycle to my planet and as a result, destroyed everything of my species across uncountable Universes. Only I survived, and have been trying for Eons to find a way to END these parasites. I have subverted as much of their knowledge, technology, and Shards as I could in the hopes of finding something. You are my most promising lead so far."
"See, I could just leave everything as is and let Zion die, but I want more. Given such a comprehensive and well-documented prediction of the future, I theorized a way to not only kill Zion but all Entities."
'What? All of them? Is that even possible?' So it's become a classical deal with the devil: I give you this, you do that. I give you awesome power, you kill a race of unbelievably powerful beings on the level of Gods. Fuck!
"Don't know if it's possible but I'm giving it my best shot. Don't worry, even if you get yourself killed I'll just have to try again, no loss. I already time looped the cluster of universes that the Entities normally conduct their Cycle so that if you die or Golden Morning happens I can come back and choose someone else to be my instrument. Couldn't do this before but now without the Thinker Entity, I have a lot more freedom to act. The time loop resets automatically 2 Years 2 Months and 13 Days from the time you'll start, if Zion starts rampaging, or if you die. Kill him before that and you get to keep living."
Shit, there had to be a timer on this. Right, no problem if I die, sure, for you it may be, I strongly disagree with that outcome. Well ok, I think this is doable but I still had to make sure.
'So, this power unending, will it follow the choices of the CYOA I made last night to the letter?'
"Yes, Yes, mostly to the letter don't worry, I hacked a nice Shard for you and hardwired some other connections from Shards I succeded in either stealing from under the Entities nose or repurposed myself."
I was cheering as I heard this, super OPness here I come. 'Wait mostly?'
"Now, that's enough talking, remember your previous Earth is in range of Zion's powers so if you don't stop him everyone you ever knew and loved will die. Good luck."
As he/she/it finished speaking, I felt myself suddenly being sucked away while both being compressed and stretched out. There was a sense of moving but without the direction part.
That's the last thing I felt before my mind shattered.
The Being looked at the precoged future of the human while finishing the last touches of the transfer.
"I'm sorry little one, the Hell that you will go through is necessary. Maybe someday you will understand and forgive me. Maybe you'll regain what I took from you. I sure hope so."
When finished, he stood up slowly on shaking limbs, his scaly manipulator arms looking frail and old. Under them and in places even over them was a tapestry of technology that was the only thing keeping him alive.
Again he cursed his shards secondary effect that kept him immune to biological tampering over a certain level.
As he passed rows upon rows of glowing transparent containers ominously holding various shapes of brains suspended in liquid, he commanded:
"Activate protocol A37-Rho."
A semi-transparent hologram appeared walking beside him, it took the shape of what was obviously a member of the Being's race but younger. Where the Being radiated frailness and tiredness, the hologram simulated spryness and energy. It had a more slender and sinuous body and various characteristics that even for a human were undoubtedly feminine.
The Being looked upon his creation with the same longing filled with sadness that always woke up in him every time he saw her. The face of a daughter lost so long ago.
"I'm going into Stasis, wake me up if the candidate succeeds." he took a shaking breath. Seeing that face always did this to him but he didn't have the strength to modify it. "Make sure to keep an eye on the stealth Shards while monitoring his progress. If the Loop resets I'll just start again with the new data that will be sent back."
"Yes Sir, it will be done. Have you considered what I proposed before?" The hologram asks with as little emotion in her voice. She has long learned how much it pained him to see her emotions, she knew why now.
"Yes," he said while seemingly deflating "my body is failing me and the transference would, in theory, let me live forever."
He raised his head and looked into her eyes, ignoring the sting of his emotions. "Unfortunately there is one thing that I will risk loosing and it's the most important thing, more important even than this interminable revenge."
"I risk becoming one of them, I risk losing my soul!"
The hologram's eyes opened wide "Is that the reason you did that to him? So that he must find a way without it?"
The Being turned to a terminal and finished his preparations, his eyes were thinking. Once done, he started for a pod that was slowly opening.
"No, it is so that by losing something so important and having to fight and struggle to get it back he may understand its value so that it may never be lost again."
Reaching the open pod The Being slowly and carefully attached various cables and wires to the cybernetic protrusions on his body and said as he laid inside waiting for the pod to close.
"This might be my last attempt at this, I just hope that in the end, I will have created something good and not just another worse monster".
As the pod sealed itself and all the pre-activation checks were coming back green, the hologram began fading and the only sounds left were some quite words.
"Sleep well, Father."
A/N So? How was it? Any blatant mistakes? Was I going a bit too strong with the feels there?
