Disclaimer: We do not own Sailor Moon, or any of the canon characters. Takeuchi Naoko's characters and storyline are all her own. The original characters (OC's) and any changes to characters (AC's) are ours to use, as well as any changes to the plot and storyline. We will not receive any monetary compensation for this work (although we both wish we could!).
Author's Notes: This story was originally based on a request, but has grown and changed drastically over time. I really hope you enjoy all the changes in this rewrite and collection of the story.
Editor's Notes: Well this is exciting. I'm on a bit of a hiatus right now (writer's block is so overrated) but editing and co writing this amazing series, after reading it so many times, is actually a dream come true alongside my bestie over the ocean, SSL.
Reader's Notes: Edited 6/6/21 by SSL and AS! Look for several new sections, more detail regarding the future and the past, as well as a better flow. The storyline itself has not changed, but there is a new enemy coming in the next story, and I want to add in to the building of that enemy.

***Usagi's POV***
School was letting out for the day. Usagi and Naru hurried out of the classroom and into the hallway, where their lockers stood side by side. Umino, who was following a few steps behind, opened his own locker next to Naru' let out a heavy sigh as he looked inside at his perfectly shined shoes.
"What's wrong?" Naru asked, lightly punching him on the shoulder.
"Nothing," Umino said sadly. "I just got to thinking."
"About what?" Usagi asked, slipping scuffed MaryJanes onto her feet. She closed her locker and leaned back against it, looking at her friends.
"Are you sure we should go?" Umino asked, looking at Naru rather than Usagi.
Naru glared. "We've been over this," she said, tossing her hair back and pulling a rolled-up newspaper from nowhere. She held the weapon threateningly, and there was a moment of unspoken communication between the young couple before Naru continued. "Usagi is perfectly fine on her own for a few days."
"I know she can handle it, Naru," he said softly. "But the others still don't remember," Umino looked from Naru to Usagi. "What if you need us?"
Usagi sighed and wrapped her arm around Umino's shoulder. "You know I have Luna and Artemis," she said softly. "Everything is going to be alright."
"I wish I could be sure of that," Umino said, shaking his head. "I feel like something is coming, though I can't be sure."
"Did you have a dream?" Naru asked, also wrapping her arm around him.
Together, the trio headed out into the bright afternoon sunlight. It was a beautiful afternoon, even in the middle of December. The sun shone high in the sky, seeming to happily hide it's face behind passing clouds that looked like fluffy cotton candy.
"No," he said softly, shaking his head. "This was different."
"How?" Usagi asked, pulling him to a stop at the side of the path. She made sure none of the other students were close enough to hear and turned to look him in the eyes.
"It was just flashes, and I was awake," Umino said softly. "I saw you with two babies, but you were hurt."
Usagi frowned. "Well I don't have any kids, and I don't babysit anymore," she mused. "I wonder what it's all about. Remember, write them down so I can give them to Luna."
"I will," Umino said softly. "I just wish I knew what it all meant."
"While we're wishing," Usagi said, looking toward the road where Ami was passing, her head low, huddled over her books. She moved quickly and deliberately avoided looking at Usagi or the others. "I wish I could get through to the girls. They all seem so lonely."
"I know it sucks Usagi-chan," Naru said, throwing her arms around the little blonde. "We have your back until you figure this out."
Usagi smiled at her friend. She really was grateful Naru had figured out her secret, and that she had come to tell Usagi they both knew. Having her back was wonderful, and she hoped she would keep both of them in her lives this time. To that end, she had asked Artemis to create special trackers for them, so she could watch for any negative energy around the pair. Somehow they were always getting into trouble.
A couple of younger kids passed by, obviously on their way to the Crown to play video games and eat junk food. Usagi grinned and tugged at Naru's hand. "Let's go play some Sailor V," she urged.
Soon they were making their way down the crowded sidewalk, laughing and talking about mundane things, like ski trips, chocolate shakes, and the best kinds of pranks to pull. The day was bright and warm, and the trio laughed excitedly as the door opened and a wave of sound rushed at them. The perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Just as they were sitting down around one of the low tables in the back, Unazuki let out a startled cry and turned as someone pinched her bottom. Usagi stood, ready to rush to her defense, but Motoki was there before she could move, pulling the boy's hand away and dragging him out of the arcade.
"I wish I had a big brother," Naru said sadly. "Or any brother at all," she added a moment later.
"You do, sort of," Usagi reminded her. "Shingo's kind of your brother too. And if you want, I can stuff him in a box and just give him to you."
Naru laughed, the smile back on her face, and Usagi felt happy she could help. Her longing for siblings was something the little red-head rarely talked about. She had lost her father to cancer when she was only six, and her mother had never remarried, saying half her heart wasn't enough to give.
'I understand,' she thought sadly as Mamoru trudged inside and settled at his favorite stool, pulling his books out without looking around him. She would never love anyone but him, and thought it romantic that Naru's mother refused to even look for someone. It was sweet, but very sad.
Still, Usagi wished Mamoru would remember her.
Turning away from him, she pasted a smile on her face and handed Naru half of her brownie. "Chocolate?" she asked, giggling. Soon they were munching away excitedly.
***Mamoru's POV***
Mamoru hated the busy portion of the afternoon. The Crown was stuffed to the rafters with students from three middle schools and four high schools. Motoki was constantly busy, as was Unazuki, and there was no one to talk to.
He swallowed heavily.
Being an orphan sucked. He hated always being alone, hated how hard it was to have enough courage even to say hello to someone. He wished, not for the first time, that his parents were alive. Or even that he had been blessed with siblings. Life would be easier if he had siblings, like Motoki did. He had long ago decided that if he ever got married he would be sure to have as many children as possible, so none of them ever felt alone.
Smiling in spite of himself, he watched Motoki fussing over Una. He wasn't entirely sure what had happened, but he thought perhaps one of those idiot boys who hung out with Yodu must have been in the Crown. They were a nuisance, and had caused problems for Una in the past.
Still, none of them were there now, although he could see Usagi. He sighed. That was another problem he wasn't sure how to handle. Usagi, a long-time nemesis, had been making some wild claims in the last few weeks. And not just to Mamoru. He had heard a shrine maiden complaining about her too.
Usagi seemed different now. Sad. Quiet even. Mamoru wasn't sure what to do. She had said something about them being more than 'fighting friends' and claimed they had lived another life together. He hadn't believed her, at the time. And yet, he was drawn to the little blonde.
"Sorry man," Motoki said softly as he moved around the counter.
"I can see it's busy. Would you rather work on the paper tonight? I can get the outline done and swing by your house later."
"Actually," Motoki looked around for a moment before turning back. "I was hoping you could do me a favor."
"Anything."
Motoki gave a relieved grin and leaned against the counter, tossing the rag over his shoulder so that it looked almost like half of a scarf. "You're practically Una's big brother," he said, looking over at the younger red-head, who was leaning over Usagi's table to talk to Naru. "Can you walk her home? I don't want her here after dark."
"Yodu?" Mamoru asked.
"Yodu," Motoki confirmed with a sigh. "She's been doing better the past couple weeks. The last thing I want is for her to regress after that punk pinched her."
"I'll protect her with my life," Mamoru promised.
"I know," Motoki said softly. He clapped Mamoru on the back, leaned to the side, and hollered out for Unazuki. When he had explained to Una, he turned back to Mamoru and smiled. "You're family," was all he said.
Mamoru choked back the sob that wanted to escape. He nodded his head, biting the inside of his cheek to stop from crying, and stood, gathering his things again. Soon they were hurrying out into the bright afternoon sun, laughing and talking as they walked towards the Furuhata's' house.
***Artemis***
"Here Usagi-chan," Artemis said, throwing her the newest tracking device for Naru. "That one looks better, I think."
He had to admit he was proud of his work. The tracker looked like any other necklace. It was silver, with a small round pendant that read "best friend," on it. Honestly, it looked like something the girls would get each other at the mall, which was perfect. Simple, elegant, and completely able to sense changes in energy levels, as well as monitoring Naru's health signs. Any changes would automatically be catalogued and would link back to the computer system in the hidden base.
"This is perfect," Usagi said, giggling. "Now if only I had a communicator for the police," she murmured.
"I took care of that too," Artemis admitted. "See this button here?" He held out the newest communicator he had created. "This will ring to this communicator," he explained, holding up a machine that looked similar to a smartphone, though about twice the size. "With this, you can press the button and your location and any enemies you are facing will appear on this little screen. It will show any injured civilians and help them find the safest route to get to them."
"This is incredible Artemis. How did you finish it so fast?"
With a heavy sigh, Artemis turned to look at the portrait that had appeared in the command center. It was from their former lives. The four inner Senshi were surrounding the princess, all of them laughing at the tiny white bunny the princess held.
"I've had a lot more time lately," he said, his voice breaking.
"I miss them too," Usagi said sadly.
"I wish she would remember me," Artemis murmured.
Usagi scooped him up and gave him a hard hug, very reminiscent of what his own charge would do. He rubbed his face under her chin, seeking affection, and thinking of the little blonde who drove him nearly to tears, and who he would do almost anything to speak to again.
