Full summary: After the sludge incident, Hisashi MIdoriya decides that his wife and son needs company. So, he asks Inko's sister, Natsume Hattori, to move next door, an offer Natsume and her husband, Ryuzen takes up immediately. But, with them comes Izuku's cousin Watanabe, who is observant, analytical and is Izuku's best friend. Watanabe may seem harmless on the outside with a, 'useless' eye-color changing quirk, but Izuku knows better and together the two brothers are going to fix the wrongs and mess with Aizawa. After all appearances can be deceiving
Chapter 1: Hello! I am Watanabe
A/N: So, this is my first BNHA fanfic. I was just wondering how it would be if Midoriya had a cousin or brother his age, so here is the result. This chapter isn't going to be much, but the next chapter I'll start with Aldera and Bakugou bashing. Hope you like it.
"Izuku, come for dinner," Inko Midoriya called.
"Coming mom!" Izuku yelled out of his room. He was still excited at having just found out that All Might was going to pass his quirk onto him. He had already thought of an excuse to tell his mother about getting up early. He told his mother he wanted to stay fitter and so wanted to get up early from now on and go for a run.
Izuku exited his room and was surprised to see 5 plates out instead of the usual 2. "Uhhh mom?" Izuku asked hesitantly.
"Yes, dear?" Inko asked.
"Um, why are there 5 plates out instead of 2?" Izuku asked.
"Oh, your father thought that it would be nice for us to have some company, so he asked my sister to come live with us. Hisashi was also concerned about you after the sludge incident today, so he thought it would be best for my sister's family to come live with us permanently."
"So, Aunt Natsume is coming to live with us?"
"Yes. Her husband, son and she is coming to live with us from now on. You don't mind if your cousin shares your room, do you? We have an extra room for my sister and her husband."
"No, I don't mind," Izuku replied with a shaky smile. Truth to be told, Izuku did mind. It had nothing to do with his cousin, in fact, he liked him a lot. He was smart, analytical, stood up for Midoriya, and didn't mind him being quirkless. The last time he had come, his cousin, Watanabe Hattori had said something that Izuku often thought of, "No one is useless Izuku. Anyone can be a hero, becoming a pro-hero isn't the only way. Heck look at Endeavour and the amount of casualties he has made, he should be called a villain instead. You can and will make a much better hero,"
Izuku smiled fondly at the memory. Remembering his cousin's words always put him in a cheerful mood and now that he knew he would be getting One for all, he knew he had a shot at becoming a good hero. Izuku however was not keen on sharing his room because of two reasons, well one but they would have 2 effects. Midoriya knew Watanabe was very intelligent and analytical, he would no doubt uncover Izuku's secrets. So, Watanabe had a good chance at learning about All Might and One for All, and also uncovering his bullying and stepping up to it. Izuku knew Watanabe had been bullied twice in his previous school for having a weak quirk, a quirk that changes eye color, and Izuku also knew that both times Watanabe had beat the living daylights out of the bullies after being provoked.
Personally, Izuku also didn't understand why Watanabe was bullied, he would have loved to have his quirk even though he had not found a single use for it yet. But he still thought it would be nice to have a quirk.
"Mom, wouldn't it be an inconvenience for them to suddenly move?"
Inko perked up at his question, "Oh, no they are going to rent the apartment next door but it will only be available next month, so until then they will be living with us. After the apartment next door is ready, they will move in there, so you won't have to share rooms for long. Plus, Ryuzen, your uncle's office is closer here, so they are keen to move here and they also think it will be nice for Watanabe to live with you since you are both of the same age."
"Oh," Izuku said simply. He had no way to stop them from coming so he had to try and outsmart Watanabe.
The bell rang just then, "Izuku, can you get that. Natsume must be here."
Izuku nodded and went to open the door, "Hello there Izuku! How are you doing? I was so worried when I saw you on the news. What were you thinking young man!"
"I thought it was awesome," Watanabe said popping his head under his mother's arms.
"You be quiet young man. Obviously, you would think that, what with tackling thieves in the middle of the road."
"Now, now Natsume, it's not like he did anything bad and I think you should let Izuku go…"
Natsume only then realized that she had seized her nephew by the shoulder. She immediately turned red, "Oh, uh sorry. Anyways where is your mother?"
"Right inside," Izuku said and dropped behind to talk to his favorite cousin, "What does she mean you tackled a thief?" he asked in a low voice.
Watanabe's face became red, "Oh, I, Uhm, I just, I may have run after a thief who stole a lady's purse and tackled him while he was running. The police were pretty amused honestly."
Izuku snickered. A warm feeling rose in his chest. Izuku knew that it was because he was finally around someone his age who acted like a proper friend rather than the bullies. Of course, Kacchan was still his friend too, he was just acting out…
Izuku stopped himself from thinking too much as Natsume and Inko squealed meeting after a long time.
At dinner
"So did Aldera grant Watanabe's application to join the school from tomorrow?" Inko asked. Izuku almost choked on his food at hearing this. Watanabe glanced at him with a puzzled expression.
"O yes, they were quite pleased to have him. I do feel a bit bad at taking him away from his friends, though. Hopefully, there aren't any bullies at Aldera. Otherwise, I have to go to the school countless times in the first week!"
"No, Izuku hasn't faced any bullying problems all these years so he will fit in nicely."
"It's not like he would tell you though," Ryuzen said joining the conversation for the first time, "Boys especially don't like to report about bullying. It sounds stupid but I have done it myself." Ryuzen moved his gaze towards Izuku, "But you should be upfront about it Izuku. They might call you a snitch for it but bullying is a big issue, otherwise you can just break their noses like Watanabe. I recommend the second one," Ryuzen said sagely.
Watanabe laughed into his soup at that while Natsume gave her husband an annoyed look.
"What?" he asked innocently.
That was too much for Midoriya and he too set off into laughter as husband and wife started bickering, thoughts about his own bullying at the back of his mind. Inko looked on fondly glad to see her son finally smiling a real smile and not a kind fake one.
"Did you guys buy a bunk bed especially cuz we were coming?" Watanabe asked as he stood in Midoriya's room. Everyone had gone off to bed but the two were playing games together.
"No, I threw a tantrum when I was little so Dad bought me a bunk bed. It was while he was on holiday. Anyway we should get to bed, it's late. We have to be up early. I hope you have no problem with the top bunk?"
Watanabe shook his head but noticed Izuku setting an alarm for 5 in the morning. Watanabe resisted the urge to raise his eyebrow. He would address that later, for now, he had something else to confront Izuku about.
"Hey Izuku sit down, will you? I have something to ask."
Izuku sat down hesitantly and felt his fears come true as Watanabe asked him "Are you bullied?"
Izuku desperately wanted to say no but he knew Watanabe would rather drink a jar of salt than believe him, so he said the truth in a low sad voice, "Yes,"
"That boy on the TV, is he your friend?"
"Yeah, his name is Katsuki Bakugo, I call him Kacchan though and he calls me Deku and-" MIdoriya stopped as he felt Watanabe getting angry, "He calls you what!?"
"Deku because I am useless because I am quirkless."
"Izuku do you remember what I told you last time when we met on holidays?"
"Yes, you said: No one is useless Izuku. Anyone can be a hero, becoming a pro-hero isn't the only way. Heck look at Endeavour and the amount of casualties he has made, he should be called a villain instead. You can and will make a much better hero."
"Good so you remember that you aren't and will never be useless. For now, I am not telling Aunty Inko but I won't promise I won't beat the shit out of this Bakugo tomorrow."
"No Watanabe, Kacchan is a good person really." Izuku retorted.
"Izuku, do you really think that Bakushit is your friend?" Watanabe asked. Izuku wanted to say, 'Yes' but he couldn't.
"Thought so."
Izuku looked down ashamed, "How did you understand that I was bullied though?"
"The footage of you attacking the sludge. Anyone else would be relieved someone was trying to save them but Bakushit yelled at you instead. Secondly, your sleeve rolled up during dinner and I saw burn marks untreated. You were given treatment after the sludge incident but you must have hidden that injury. Because Bakushit was releasing explosions the whole time, you must have gotten them from him, but you weren't in proximity of his explosions, so you were trying to help cover up for who did the damage. From my questions now, you guaranteed that Bakugo goes to the same school as you, so he must have given you these injuries as a result of quirk-induced bullying."
Izuku gaped at him, "How the hell are you so observant?"
Watanabe shrugged, "Now for my second question: Why on earth have you set your alarm to 5 in the morning."
"To go for a run, I told mom I wanted to keep fit more."
"I see, I will go with you too then."
"No-No!" Izuku exclaimed before realizing how desperate he must have sounded, "I mean sure," he attempted to cover up.
"Too late, actual reason please," Watanabe said with a smirk.
"I can't say, I promised."
Watanabe scowled. Izuku knew he had checkmated Watanabe, he wouldn't make him break a promise.
"Fine, but just tell me if Bakugo made you promise,"
"No."
"Good so as bad as it sounds, none of your peers made you promise. I doubt Aunt or Uncle Midoriya would send you on errands at 5, so it has to be someone else. Someone who you have kept secret even from Aunty Inko. This guy will be a total stranger but it must be a stranger who you can trust so I think a well-known hero with the credibility of being a nice person. During the incident and afterward, All Might seemed very interested in you. So is All Might training you in the morning?"
Izuku stared at his cousin with wide eyes and his mouth agape, "How-how did you?"
"So I was right! What is the training you for though? Hardly any hero is going to stop to mentor someone unless their quirk is similar or something like that, but the thing is you are quirkless, I'm not saying that unkindly. So that means All Might must have been quirkless too and a late bloomer as well so he is training you to receive your quirk as a late boomer as well."
Izuku sighed, "You are 90% correct. You are only wrong about me unlocking my own quirk."
"Is he passing his quirk onto you? No, that's not possible but then again, All Might's quirk is, unknown and he never stated it so it might be possible. Tell me everything! How does he pass it on?"
"I have no clue myself but damn how the hell did you figure all that out."
Watanabe shrugged, "Hey you analyze too."
"Not on that level!"
"Says the guy who kept our analyzing battle going for 4 months on Whatsapp before I conceded defeat from exhaustion."
Izuku twitched.
"Sooo, can I meet All Might with you tomorrow?" Watanabe asked.
"I don't think he would like it if I brought you with me."
"I doubt he would mind, he is the number 1 hero and extremely friendly. What about this, I figured out how to use my quirk properly that might enable me to make me a hero. Yes, my useless eye-coloring quirk, if you let me come, I'll tell you about it!"
Izuku was bursting, he loved to analyze quirks and he knew if his cousin said he learned to use his quirk effectively, it must be amazing. "Fine," Izuku said. He felt a bit bad at betraying All Might but he never said anything about a tag along and he really did want to know about Watanabe's quirk.
A/N: Sorry, for not explaining Watanabe's quirk in this chapter. I wanted it to be a sort of surprise, plus I have to do some research on the way it will work too. So until the next chapter. Please leave a review, follow or favorite to tell whether you liked the plot. Also, I intend to make a similar fanfic, which I hope you will like along with this.
