Remember, this was laced together from a forum format so if it feels a bit disjointed, well, it is. Enjoy!
Taylor would openly admit, as annoyingly amusing as Aisha could be, her brother was such a stick in the mud that she actively avoided interacting with him whenever possible.
Was he yummy eye candy with absolutely ridiculously sexy abs you could fucking grind meat on if you had the option to do so?
Hell. The. Fuck. Yes.
Did he have any discernible personality other than a desire to be looking out for his sister and have absolutely no romantic interest in Taylor when she made it fucking obvious she was interested in him for over a goddamn year?
...Very no.
Glancing at Sarah, she internally shrugged.
Whatever, trading up.
Still, her mom and dad had hired him to maintain this area, which he did quite well mind, and thus she had to deal with him. Which, admittedly, would be a lot easier with Aisha around; he'd be so busy scolding her that Taylor wouldn't even have to talk to him, which was happening right now much to her amusement.
Sarah glanced at the bickering siblings a moment, then asked, "Is that...normal?"
Thankfully her power didn't kick in there as she let out a huff while grabbing Sarah's hand and dragging her deeper into the building, "You have no idea, ok let me see...and there we are!"
Finding the right room Taylor pushed the doors open, flicked on the lights, then spun on her heel as she spread her arms out dramatically while yelling out, "TADA!"
Then she was pouting as Sarah just nodded and stared at the computers and servers with an analytical gaze then spoke up with a bland, "Interesting...and a very decent setup. Ok I'll begin reprogramming these things now, but it's probably going to take me a couple of days, maybe a week to get it up and running. Coding is something I can do I just really don't like it, boring. Nothing for it though, if someone else did it they might get it wrong, time to get to work."
With that she briskly walked past Taylor who simply stood there silently for a few moments feeling completely lost. Then suddenly Aisha was standing there beside her, head cocked to the side as she adjusted her fedora, looking genuinely confused.
"Huh...dunno which one of you is more oblivious, it isn't even funny at this point really...just sad."
Taylor reached into her waistband and pulled out her pistol, then blinked in confusion as she stared at her empty hand while wondering why she had the desperate desire to shoot someone. Looking about feeling more than a little lost she glanced at the desk beside her then shook her head slowly while muttering out, "Why the hell is my revolver on that desk and unloaded? I mean...ugh...whatever."
Snatching up the revolver she reloaded it while grumbling to herself slamming the cylinder home when done, holstered it, glanced at Sarah who wasn't paying attention to her as she worked, then decided to sulk while playing with her phone.
A few minutes later she blinked quickly as a teacup resting on a saucer suddenly appeared beside her. Brow furrowing she took the cup in hand, sniffed the wafting steam, took a sip, and smiled happily.
Aisha for her part smiled in return, then walked away to annoy her older brother while big sis chilled the fuck out with her favorite drink, and hoped one of those idiots would make their first move.
Sarah was typing away at her terminal boggling at the complexity of the code she faced while shaking her head slowly. How the hell had anyone actually broken through and exploited this? Seriously this was expert work and while having it running an entire server farm kinda stretched it's limits she was running into the exact same wall she had at the Hebert's home running through their code.
How the literal fuck did someone crack this? You'd literally have to be in two places at once to avoid the countermeasures involved with the programming much less get into their surveillance network unnoticed to try and nab her in broad daylight. It made no sense, other than what the mook Taylor had spared said, that they were dealing with a wannabe Bond villain here.
Glancing up to Taylor she winced as her power kicked in, [Still thinks you are attractive, sulking because you aren't paying attention to her.]
That...ugh...she was seriously going to have to deal with that soon, because in all honesty, Taylor was cute, well connected, and Sarah's power hadn't indicated any thoughts of her betraying her...
So, flattery? Yeah, going with that.
"Hey Taylor, you did most of the security coding on this right?"
Perking up she turned and beamed a smile at Sarah that made her heart skip a beat while nodding quickly, "Yup! Spent like, I think six weeks clearing all the junk code out of what that asshole mom hired before me wrote, which was a bitch." She grumbled under her breath for a moment before perking back up again, "But yeah, it's my coding."
Turning to hide her blush Sarah responded with, "It's really good work, did you rely on your Power to pull it off?"
Oh shit, did that sound condescending? Fuck that sounded cond-
"Half and half honestly. Mom pulled me out of school early because I had a really nasty tendency of using my powers at random times while mixing with my natural intelligence which was setting off all sorts of alarm bells. Mom didn't want the PRT to get involved, don't blame her, though in my defense I've been a parahuman since I was seven so it's really hard to separate myself from my precog voodoo."
That made Sarah freeze up as her eyes widened in horror, "You...you Triggered when you were seven!?"
Taylor nodded while shrugging nonchalantly, "Yeah, got kidnapped by some Elite thugs leaning on the Family, needed a way out and I was desperate. I Triggered, found all of the variables necessary to kill them all and escape, and that's all she wrote."
[Suffering from long term untreated PTSD]
Well...fuck.
There was silence for a time, then Sarah took in a deep breath, trying to process the fact that her direct superior may very well be the equivalent of a child soldier, then asked a question she really didn't want to.
"Taylor, how many people have you killed?"
Taylor turned away from her phone a moment, scrunched her brows, then spoke up in a questioning tone, "Err...Today?"
Sarah felt a headache oncoming, but did her best to keep her calm as she replied with, "How many people have you killed in total, sweetie."
Taylor seemed to beam in pleasure a moment as Sarah realized in belated abject horror what she had called the potentially psychotic Donna to be, as said woman in turn adjusted her glasses and cleared her throat.
"I mean, a lot? I'm kind of the primary triggerwoman for most of mom and dad's jobs that go bad, or when idiots renege on a deal. I mean I don't know how badly they fucked us over since I don't ask questions, usually, though I won't do anything that involves hurting kids. I know I'm a bit messed up-" she pointed at her head with a forefinger and spun it slowly as she continued on- "in here, but I won't do anything to hurt children... been on the receiving end of that before... Just... not my jam, ya know?"
Sarah was quiet for a moment, then asked, "What about making them orphans while doing your job. Is that your 'jam'?"
Taylor shrugged, "They're better off without such negative influences to their still developing minds. Honestly, it's a community service in the end."
[Completely believes what she is saying is the truth. Still finds you attractive]
Well... awesome... Thanks power...
"I... See... Well I think I've done enough here today, I can collate the rest of the data back at your home and we can get a move on assessing the pertinent information some time tomorrow."
Taylor grinned at that, "Awesome! I really hoped you could meet Jean Paul and Rachel today but they were both busy so we might as well head home anyway. Well... Rachel was busy, Jean Paul was just being lazy... which is honestly par for the course for that little Canadian shit... Anywho lets head home shall we?"
The ride back to the Hebert home was intermingled with some uncomfortable silences, awkward chitchat, then eventually some Coheed and Cambria over the stereo speakers. When they pulled in Sarah made her excuses, and walked away from Taylor, then made her way to Annette's study. Knocking on the door, it clicked open, and Sarah took that as an invitation to enter the room, pushing the door aside, and taking a seat in the guest chair, she then waited for the older woman to address her.
Eventually, the door clicked shut behind her, then Annette glanced up from her computer meeting Sarah's gaze evenly.
They stared at each other for several moments, then eventually Annette sighed, pulled her glasses off, and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Alright," she eventually sighed out, "go on with it."
Sarah took in a deep breath, let it out, calming herself the best she could, then asked, "Ma'am... exactly how broken is Taylor, and why hasn't she gotten any help for it?"
Donna Annette Hebert neè Borromeo stared at her for a solid minute, then sighed again as she turned her chair to look out the window taking in the full glory of the bay before replying.
"She is...functional, but yes as you say, she is broken, but also stubborn, defiant, and refuses to back down even if she really should, but never will... Let me ask you this miss Livsey, if I may? How many shrinks do you think are available to straighten out the mind of a child who has been raised since birth to lead a criminal empire? One who has suffered extreme mental trauma after Triggering at the age of seven, slaughtering the thugs that kidnapped her, who had the intention of raping and murdering her on video, just to hurt her parents?"
[Rhetorical question]
Oh...fuck off power, that was fairly obvious wasn't it?!
[Assessment necessary for ongoing deliberations]
It's also unwanted!
[Indifferent to your wants and likes]
Oh... fuck you!
[Not interested]
Did...did her power just... Her power was sassing her!
Seething, Sarah let out a sigh, then replied, "Unless they were government sponsored psychiatrists, I doubt there would be anyone who would be willing to cross that legal line, even to help a kid. Not in this day and age."
Annette stared at her for a few moments, then smiled, "Correct... and that is why I hired you Sarah, I need you to save my daughter from herself, while keeping her on track to fulfill her duties to the Family."
Oh.
"Oh..."
[Oh]
Annette nodded at the stunned blonde woman with a tired smile, "Quite."
