And the Gods have spoken XD Sorry, Vikings reference. What I wanted to say is that with a lead in the votes – It's gonna be Palmer Ash will be facing in this chapter! Whew, saves me time to write a Tower Tycoon Battle Facility chapter. Instead, they can just battle right here in Twinleaf Town! But those who were expecting Barry and Kenny, do not boo – I still have ideas reserved for them. We never saw a League Match between Barry and Ash – so now I am gonna write one. It will be released somewhere in Sinnoh. And seeing that Kenny is a Coordinator, he and May will eventually cross paths and somewhere Ash and Kenny will have a rematch.

Ash and May will be spending some more time in Twinleaf, basically this is just to advance the plot. So you can count this as a filler chapter. I started this chapter by burning the midnight oil, and made it happen. Originally I was just gonna have Ash and Palmer bump into one another, but then I did some research and found that an episode 'Strategy Begins at Home!' had aired on January 2010 in US Broadcast. Originally the date was August 12, 2009. This episode had introduced the 'TwinLeaf Festival', and now I got my scripts ready. I have been writing fairs and events for long, so why not one more time. Besides, in the anime, it didn't look like a grand event, but it must be important to the town. Therefore, I begin, and you can just say that I will write it as per May's perspective. Also, this chapter will mark the end of only Ash Ketchum battling and from next chapter, be ready to see May train with her Pokemon, making them learn new moves, watch Contests tapes, and many more.

Now what I always try to do I make a small part of every chapter, but it always mutates in a monstrous one, and I have absolutely no control as the imagination starts to run wild. I find it easy to write 10K words chapter than to trim it. Therefore please enjoy this chapter, where I have set some interesting dynamics.

The smaller in size settled down in front of bowls of pokechow and poffins, chattering amongst themselves. Pikachu politely put up with Buneary's painfully obvious affections while squeezed between Glaceon and Buneary, each of them wanting more access to the mouse, who just wanted to eat in peace. Skitty and Quilava chatted and caught up on their way over to their own portions, where Johanna's Umbreon and Glameow already reclined. While others who were massive in size such as Torterra, Mamoswine and Venusaur had to eat outside, and other partners decided to join them

"So what do you think? Be honest with me.'' Johanna seek a small feedback for her cooking, piercing a broccoli with her fork.

May replied, as soon as she gulped down a mushroom. ''It's definitely amazing!''

"Ash, I hope you are enjoying what I have prepared,'' Johanna giggled. ''Last time you were here, you almost ate the town of houses and homes.''

"You are such a good cook, Johanna,'' Ash added, greedily chomping down on a freshly baked roll. ''Wish Dawn was as good as you!''

"Hey chump!'' Dawn snarled. ''I am a good cook!''

Ash swallowed the morsel in his mouth and almost gagged at the memory of Dawn's cooking. "You are the one to talk! Last time you whipped up something I had to go to the hospital to get it out!''

"Really?'' Looking curious, Johanna widened her eyes as she twirled her fork around some pasta salad.

"Mom! It was years ago!'' Dawn flailed her hands, and slammed them on the table. ''Ash, that was one time! How was I supposed to know the bread was bad!''

"Wasn't it being green was a slight tip-off?'' Ash cocked a brow.

"Okay, you ain't the one to take the moral ground here,'' May interjected. ''You cooking is worse of all people here combined.''

Ash raised a brow. The only person who should be supporting him is busy burrowing her fork in his back. ''What makes you say that?'' he asked incredulously.

"I remember that one time in Volley Town. We had given Brock the day off because it was his birthday,'' May's tone turned reminiscent, as she dreaded the thought. "To this day I can't eat limes.''

"But the recipe said Cilantro Lime dressing!'' Ash argued.

"But the page number said 'Lemonade'!'' May countered.

Seeing that things were about to get ugly around the dinner table, Dawn quickly changed the subject, ''Hey guys, you're in town at just the right time!''

The two pulled their faces back from one another, bemused as they must have missed something. "Some Legendary Pokemon comes home to roost in January?'' Ash cocked a brow.

"No doofus,'' Dawn squealed, slicing a bread. ''It's time for the Twinleaf Festival!''

"Pol! Empoleon!'' the big penguin wadded, excited as he informed the Pokemon on the ground.

"Hey, I almost forgot about that. Good thing we came to see you at the start of the year!'' Ash shouted enthusiastically. "So Johanna, I guess you are already done with the preparations. Everything in motion?''

"Not this year, dear.'' The mother chimed, buttering a scone.

"But aren't you the host of Twinleaf Town always?'' Ash's lips curled, perplexed.

"I stopped the streak three years ago,'' Johanna chimed. ''Now the Town lets the young generation head up the event.''

"So who did it last time?''

Dawn sighed, not poising to say it but she had to reply. ''…it was Barry.'' The name escaped her lips in a tiring fashion. ''Since then the Committee has banned Barry to host any events. And just for the benefit of the town, he isn't allowed to have house guests either.''

"Figures…So Palmer didn't have a bug against that?''

"Palmer was vote number one.'' Dawn heaved.

"Ouch,'' Ash winced. ''So who's the host this year?''

"Your very own…'' Dawn squealed, throwing up her hands in the air, making her mother duck. ''The Rising Sun of Sinnoh, Dawn Berlitz!'' her eyes lighting up at the prospect of her event management.

"They call you 'The Rising Sun of Sinnoh?'' May raised her brows, biting on her tuna.

"No,'' Johanna hung her head. ''She's made it up for herself.''

"Oh…'' While the authority seemed safe in Johanna's hands, one could not trust the same in Dawn's hands. ''You mean to say this is your first time?'' Ash sweatdropped, thinking about any disaster morbidly.

"That's correct,'' Dawn chirped, but furrowing immediately. ''Are you saying I can't run the shots around for a night?''

Ash held his hands, denying defiantly. ''Hey, I didn't say that. I am sure you must have done a great job. I just need to take a look with my own eyes.''

"Good, then the Festivities begin at 7:00 pm!'' Dawn informed. ''

"May, you have never been here for the Twinleaf Festival, have you?'' Johanna inquired, eyes blinking.

"Can't say I have.'' May blushed sheepishly. ''You know we were wrapped back homes during Holidays.''

"Well, count this year as your lucky one. Because we are rocking it Berlitz style!'' Dawn punched in the air. Johanna sighed, wondering why the fighter in Dawn was so rambunctious.

"I need someone to fill me on what exactly is Twinleaf Festival.'' May inquired.

"It's an annual event inaugurated here in Twinleaf, to celebrate the settlement's anniversary.'' Dawn educated. "Kinda like the same Pallet Town has every year. Am I right, Ash?''

"Oh yeah…''

"Don't you guys have annual events in Petalburg?'' Dawn tilted her head.

"There are some…So what's the dress code? Formal, uniforms, religious or just casual?''

"Just casuals are fine.'' Dawn waved with a down of her hand. "So Ash, you have been in the Twinleaf Festival before! Any particular ting you are looking up to.''

"I would….''

"Besides food!''

"Okay…then…''

"And the Battles too!''

"Geez, you are tying my hands here!" Ash bit. ''I am looking forward to spend some more quality time with May.''

She blushed a furious red hot.

"Oh you put the hormones back in your pants, buster! Cause I got a surprise for you tonight!'' Dawn challenged, trying very hard to suppress the secret.

"Now that's gonna make me all curious!'' Ash smiled, finishing the last bite on the plate.

"Well, I guess we are done with the lunch,'' Johanna commented as she raised herself up leaving the others seated.

"Thanks a lot for the food, Johanna.'' May praised.

"Oh now dear, that's enough gratitude for a day.'' The matriarch smiled. ''Dawn, would you mind helping me with the dishes?''

"Sure thing!'' Dawn nodded with a smile and began to clear the plates from the table.

"Hey, want some help?'' May tried to collect a few dirty dishes, but Dawn stopped her.

"Not at all!'' she politely refused. ''I got this! Why don't you two go upstairs and take a nice R & R. I heard you rose early this morning.''

"That doesn't sound too bad. I could use a few zzz.'' Ash marveled the idea.

"Why don't you all make yourself at home? After all, if you're going to be staying here, I want you all to be as comfortable as you would be in your own homes!" Johanna chirped, picking the gravy boat.

"Oh Johanna,'' May said teasingly. ''You shouldn't be saying that with Ash around. "Telling Ash to make himself at home can be an incredibly dangerous thing...especially if you like a clean house."

Ash narrowed his eyes at her. ''What am I a, tornado?''

"If you can swing it that way.''

"Hey Ash,'' Dawn pouted cutely at him, and his resolve quickly began to dwindle.

"Yeah?'' he raised his brows at her.

"You might wanna create an impression of anonymity here.'' Dawn offered. "With you being the new hotshot, I don't wanna make the folks forget about the spirit of Festival and go gaga over you.''

Ash's lips twisted. That's an insult to pride. Nevertheless, he knew how much efforts she had put into make an impression on the Town tonight, and frankly his subject of concentration was gonna be his girlfriend.

"Hey don't sweat it Dawn,'' Ash abided "People won't even notice that I'm here.''

"So who should I make it to?'' Ash grinned at the girl, who sparkly looked at her idol as she forwarded him a pen.

"Sara.'' She nervously answered.

"With Love…Sara,'' Ash's grin spread, as he finished signing and returning the piece of rag back to the girl, the crowd surrounding him badgering to sign their merchandises as well. In a squeal of delight the women and the kids, cornered him on the spot, clicking pictures of him.

"Look at him, hogging all the spotlight like that,'' Dawn puffed her cheeks.

"Well, you can't help it if you are a star around the world.'' May sweated.

"Hey Ash!'' one little boy poked his head out of the crowd. ''I am turning ten next month. Which starter should I chose? I think Chimchar is cool but can you weigh in?''

"Hey, any Pokemon ain't options buddy,'' Ash smirked, glancing at Pikachu on his shoulder. ''I learned that a long time ago. You are the most strongest if your bond with your Pokemon is tight.''

"Ash! Ash!'' another kid pestered his hand forward. ''My Shinx has just evolved into Luxio. What strategy can I use to battle Fantina?''

"Umm…'' Ash's tongue touched his upper lip. ''Try teaching Luxio Psychic Fangs. That's crack up their defenses.''

"Look at them coming out in droves!" Dawn snarled. ''Why are the slew of reporters left out? It's like no one's even interested in watching me as their host!''

"Hey, are you going to challenge Sinnoh Elite Four as well?'' a little rowdy guy piped.

"I could give my fifty percent and be your new Champion, you know,'' Ash cackled as the cameras flashed on his face. ''But fans, you all know that's a cliché.''

"How did he fit all that ego in your house?'' May sighed.

The women shrieked as he and Pikachu posed, shoving aside all the males, and encircling around him. May had it when one of the teenage girls had the audacity to plant her glistening lips on his face, leaving an imprint of the red lipstick, making May gawk. Stomping on the ground, she entered the crowd, and blasted him. She was so raged, she intimidated the girl away who slip commented May was possessive.

"Quit showing off, cliché boy!'' she chided, pulling off his and dragging him aside where Dawn stood.

"May, ow! What are you doing? You are ripping them of the pleasure to see their idol!'' Ash yelped, face red from May tugging his cheeks.

"You're such a camera hog!'' Dawn reprimanded. ''I told you to go low-key!''

"Hey, I can't help it when fans love me so much!'' Ash reasoned, embarrassed to see it was caught on a camera. ''Hey buddy, this is nothing. Just a practice drill she does. Helps strengthens face muscles! Why don't you go try those squid over there.''

Time passed, enough to steal the last fragments of the evening and welcome the night. The last of the sun's rays cosseted behind soft grey cloud. The streets were now bustling with the residents of Twinleaf Town. Streets had grown more colorful than just the dead white of the streets. The smokes of the barbecue reached for the skies as vendors slapped more and more meat on the grill. The noises became more audible to attract the crowd, as artifact sellers drew in more to talk about the imported goods. Stalls and booths lined the path. Electrical lights were aligned on the telephone poles above to keep the area lit as the sun disappeared. Children of all ages were playing games while adults flocked between different booths to browse whatever merchandises the vendors had to offer. Little kids and trainers who were entering the battle Tournament were seen giving their Pokemon a boost in motivation.

"I must say Dawn,'' Ash scanned around. ''This is even more fun looking than last time. Good job!''

"I knew you would like it!" Dawn squeaked, slapping Ash's shoulder. ''You see those gamers! Straight from Unova! And those expensive looking merchandise and toys! I organized all the way from Goldrenrod City! And even the food, while traditional always on the shelf, this time we have the Japanese cuisines from Kanto, so you'll be homesick! There are acrobats and performers here too!''

"Whoa,'' May giggled. ''You seem to have burn a hole in the Committee budget.''

"Hey, I am the one who goes all out. Whether Contest or Committee..'' Dawn puffed up, proudly.

"WAHH! LOOK OUT! LOOK OUT! LOOK OUT!''

Ash froze. ''That voice...''

As if summoned by talk of battling, a thick blow struck the back of Ash's neck, sending him stumbling forward. May and Dawn gasped in slight horror, while Pikachu had already hopped away, foreseeing the disaster. A familiar voice shouted out in pain as Ash caught himself from falling, and he whirled around to find the culprit. May blinked in surprise as the scene unfolded in front of her. Ash and the other guy, blonde with funny horn-ish protrusions on his head, rubbed their heads.

"Ow…my…head!''

"And you wonder why you fail driving lessons,'' Ash groaned, rubbing his neck as he regained his bearings.

"Hey, how do you know I fai….Ash?'' Barry blinked rapidly as the man he had collided into was none other than his long time friend. Being hyperactive and vastly known for it, he sprung back on his feet, hand outstretched at the raven head in an accusing fashion.

"Whatchu doing here?'' Barry barked.

"Long time no see, Barry,'' Ash whooped. "Still jumpy as always huh?''

"Long time!?'' Barry exclaimed, some of his spit raining down on Ash. ''We met a couple of months ago! You and the other guys deserted me in that bar, leaving me drunk and alone to foot the bill, which will now come out of your pockets as the fine!''

"I don't remember a thing,'' Ash lied, whistling as he turned his face away.

"Hey don't you go lost on me! You knew I don't carry that kinda cash on me! They took my watch, my wallet, everything!'' Barry roared.

"Whoa whoa wha,'' Dawn hopped in, breaking the two men apart, ''Simmer down, Barry. I ought to know this." She turned to her other friend who was trying to avoid eye contact. "Ash?''

"Yeah?'' he droned.

"What does Barry mean you stranded him in a bar?'' the blunette cocked a brow. Apparently, he was just as good listener as running her mouth.

"You know, with age we develop some drinking habits, …eh…its just natural for guys to unwind and pop the bottles.''

"That wasn't where I was getting at.'' Dawn bit. ''Why were you in a bar with him? Weren't you trying to avoid everyone?''

"Umm…''

May threw him a startled glance. This piece of information was too hard to resist.

"Well not everyone,'' Ash muttered, ''you didn't reply to all those faxes I sent you.''

"I don't have a fax machine…'' Dawn's vein was popping.

"Hey, that's not my fault is it,'' Ash threw his head back.

"Come on Ash, stop beating around the bush and answer us!'' Dawn barked.

"Okay, okay! You wouldn't believe it but Barry is one of the cool people to hang out with.''

"I am?'' Barry's head twisted in confusion but immediately lit ''That's right I am! I am the coolest of the cool!''

"Hold it there, albino head!'' Dawn scowled furiously and whipped around to face Ash. ''So the bottom line is you chose this loser over us. All these years not a single call, while you were clinking bottles with Barry?''

"You are all taking this wrongly?'' Ash nervously chuckled.

"Am i?''

"Come on, look, Barry and I have the same relationship as hero and a sidekick. We fight, we talk, we open up beers, just what bros do.'' Ash reasoned.

"You can't have the same talk with any of us? Me, May, Brock? We ain't good enough, I guess!'' Dawn thrilled.

"Well you wanna talk?'' Ash got in her face, arguing. ''Let's talk how nice your butt is.''

"What?'' Dawn unfolded her arms and grimaced. ''I don't wanna talk about my butt with you or anyone else.''

Ash clapped, smiling as he made his point. ''See, now this is the stuff I can speak to Barry with.''

Dawn's eye twitched, infuriated as both the guys held up fingers in sign language to judge her butt. "Enough! I am still here, you perverts!''

"Oh don't worry Dawn. I have a girlfriend, and Barry is gay.'' Ash pointed a thumb towards the flabbergasted blonde.

"What?" Barry yawped. ''Imma gonna fine you for saying that! I am not gay!'''

"You're gay.''

"Am not!''

"You're gay.''

"Am not! I have even kissed a person before!" Barry defended.

"And his wife asked for a divorce on the spot!'' Ash countered. "You're so gay you give husbands the creeps! You have caused more divorces than divorce lawyers!''

Ash and Barry went back and forth. Until Dawn had it enough of it.

"Big picture please!'' She shrieked, throwing her hands out. Her voice had caused a lot of heads turn at her. Gulping, she spotted the same man whom Ash had suggested to try the squids ''What are you still doing here? Bugger off!''

Shaking his head, the nerd walked away. Exasperating, Dawn stooped her shoulders, ''Man, this is embarrassing.''

Ash loosened up, holding up her shoulders. ''Look, I already apologized for running out and maintaining my distance. Besides, I am allowed to have friends which I choose right. And you guys, you guys are family. We don't choose those. We get those.''

"Heya! I don't wanna be kept waiting!'' the accused finger still hovered on Ash. ''What are you doing here in Sinnoh, tell me, tell me, tell me!'' the agitated blonde resorted to stomping.

"Cool your jets man,'' Ash hissed. ''I am just visiting my old friend Dawn, and my girlfriend wants to try the Contests here, so I am gonna be in Sinnoh for a while.''

"Girlfriend?'' Barry's face screwed up. "You have a girlfriend? Where?'' the irate blonde scanned left to right.

"Umm…hi,'' May stepped forward.

Barry looked at her finally, his expression morphing into a curiosity. "You are Ash's girlfriend? But you look so pretty for him!''

Barry grinned cheekily and leaned in towards the brown-haired girl. May sweat-dropped and instinctively backed up a couple of steps. "Um...thanks?"

"What's with that look?" Barry frowned and stood up straight before snapping his fingers. "Oh, I get it. You were probably a little intimidated by being so close to a guy with such dashing good looks." He stuck his nose in the air as his cocky grin returned, totally oblivious to the annoyed groans of the others.

May cringed. ''Yeah…that's definitely not the case. I don't have such low standards.''

"Way to go babe!'' Ash cheered.

"What!? You are out of the line, woman! How would you like to pay your fine?!'' Barry howled. The group groaned tired of Barry's constant shifts in mood. The three were so engrossed in hiding her faces to save from Barry's embarrassment, they couldn't take notice of a boy with dark auburn hair strolling in their direction.

"Thought I heard a commotion,'' a familiar voice came from behind as the blunette recoiled. Dawn's head perked up as she whipped around to find the mysterious stranger standing behind her was the same stocky man with voluminous chestnut hair, and the rounding jaw, with a wide smile on his visage.

"Kenny!'' Dawn identified, her eyes lighting up as her childhood friend stood before her. "About time you got here!''

"I still made it in time, Dawn. We still have thirty minutes to go on the floor,'' Kenny breathed, sighting that they weren't the only ones around. "What's going on?''

Plopping down her arm on the redhead's shoulder, Dawn reintroduced Kenny to her guests. ''You wouldn't believe who showed up? It's Ash.''

Just Ash was enough to plunge the atmosphere back into silence. The Sinnoh Native's face went from shock to a frown. He tried hard to suppress his hoarseness but it was evidently being slipped down in fragments. "Ash?''

The two boys eyes met. While Ash just displayed a grin of seeing an old acquaintance, the same couldn't be said for Kenny who had picked up a transparent one sided rivalry with the trainer, which was revived from back in the days.

"Hey Kenny,'' Ash grinned welcomingly. ''How's it going?''

"Good,'' Kenny nonchalantly answered.

"Well okay,'' Ash accepted. ''How's the Coordinator thing going?''

"Apparently looks like I didn't make it as big as you,'' Kenny buffed. ''Beaten the Elite Four of Kanto and almost becoming the Champion, sounds impressive.''

"You saw?'' Ash's blinked, incredulous to pick a common ground.

"Nah,'' Kenny shook his head. ''Heard it in the news.''

"Oh.'' Ash furrowed his brows.

The boys seemed to stare at each other for a few seconds, though neither made any kind of move. The tension bore its weight on Dawn, and she stood up in an attempt to quell the pair's standoff.

"You have seen May before,'' Dawn giggled nervously signaling to the brunette.

"Hi Kenny,'' May greeted.

"Hi May!'' Kenny exclaimed, with a little more enthusiasm. "Nice to see you in town. Haven't seen you since Wallace Cup five years ago.''

"Great Kenny,' May grinned, ''You look good. Have you been working out?''

"Yeah,'' Kenny blushed. ''So what makes you come to Sinnoh?''

"Oh, I am travelling with Ash,'' May chimed, grabbing his arm.

"Travelling with him, huh?'' once again, his cheery cheek faltered. ''Sounds like you two will have a good time together.''

"O I almost forgot. Geez I gotta stop doing that,'' Dawn flustered. ''Guess who's the hottest couple in town?''

Kenny blinked, as May squeezed closer into Ash's side. ''You guys are dating?!''

"Been two months now,'' Ash smiled, rubbing the back of his head.

"Oh man, why didn't you tell me earlier?'' With a sudden change in demeanor and thrilled that with Ash being now in a relationship, Kenny was way ahead in the race for Dawn's heart.

Ash's face twisted and perplexing to see a change in the Coordinator's attitude. "Because it's kinda personal..''

Kenny blushed, having totally embarrassed himself like that. He made it a note to warm up to Ash for the evening.

"Agahahahah!'' Barry scratched his head. ''don't leave me outta the conversation, or else I am gonna fine each and every one of you!''

"Barry? What are you doing here?!" Kenny exclaimed.

"Yo,'' Ash waved his hand in front of Kenny's face, trying to lift any hypnosis Kenny was under. ''He lives in Twinleaf Town just as much as you!''

"Oh right." Kenny grumbled lowly, hated being pointed out the facts, ''What I meant was when did you get here? Weren't you at the Battle Tower.''

"A couple hours ago," Barry pointed at himself with his thumb, "Ya see, I took a break from the rigors of training and came home just for this occasion!" Barry grinned and got in-between Dawn and Kenny, wrapping his arms around their necks, " "Looks like the Twinleaf Trio is gonna get to rock the Twinleaf Festival! Awesome!"

"Yeah swell,'' Kenny scoffed sarcastically. '' "So are we just gonna stand around and talk all evening, or are we gonna enjoy what we all came here to enjoy?"

"I second the motion!" Dawn raised her hand cheerfully, "All in favor, say I!"

"I!" Everyone but Barry exclaimed.

Barry stomped his feet in frustration, "No no no! I am not letting Ash get away without a battle!''

Ash and May exchanged few looks before she mumbled something in his ear. Agreeing, he announced. "Sorry, Bar. But I gotta take a rain check on this one. If you don't mind, i am just gonna go have some 'us' time with my girl.''

"That works for us,'' Dawn grinned.

Dumbfounded, Barry's jaw dropped as Ash turned around and strolled towards the booths, with May turning on a heel and waving a temporary good bye to Barry teasingly. ''Bye Barry.''

"Have fun!'' Dawn waved as the couple mixed into the crowds, and immediately stomped on the feet of two natives, angrily. "Why can't you two behave yourselves? I see my friend after a decade and you drive him away!''

"Ow..'' Kenny hopped, unhappily "What did I do?''

"Couldn't you have opened your heart a little more? He's been through enough, you know!" Dawn grit. ''You were being so standoffish with him, like he's your rival or something!''

Ashamed, Kenny hung his head. ''Forget it,'' he narrowed his eyes in disbelief. ''You wouldn't understand…'' he turned around, and walked away, making Dawn exasperated behind his back.

Grumping Barry held his foot, that was still red from Dawn's assault. ''So would you like to pay your fine now or after the Festival?''

"Did you see what a jerk that Kenny guy was being? What's his problem?'' Ash whined, pointing the thumb over his shoulder. ''He was acting like I did something to tick him off.''

"You know,'' May hummed, tearing a portion of her cotton candy and feeding of to Pikachu on her shoulder. ''That kind of took me as a surprise too. He's such a sweet guy.''

"Yeah, but why did he chew me off for. What does he mean his career ain't decorated as mine,'' Ash wheezed. ''Like that's my fault. What a jackass.''

"Hey, maybe he's just not used to seeing you around. You should try to be friends with him.'' May suggested.

"I did take a shot. I really thought I knew the guy,'' Ash rebuked. "He set me off you know. He comes near me and I'll kick his ass.''

"Now don't say that,'' she pecked his cheeks. ''Maybe he's just spiting after seeing you and Dawn close. Didn't he cool off when he found that you and I were an item?''

"What?'' Ash bent. ''Me and Dawn? Why would he get an idea like that? And if I am closer to Dawn, then what the fuck is his problem? ''

"Ash, they are childhood friends,'' May crooned, explaining in a motherly fashion. "He's got the hots for her. I can see it in his eyes. You think he gets under her skin just for fun?''

"How could you possibly deduce that from one look?''

"It's my specialty.'' She intertwined her fingers with him.

He always loved how soft and warm to the touch she felt, and it made him wish they could've done this sort of thing more back when they were traveling together. The same could be said for May, loving the idea of being able to hold Ash's hand in hers. A simple action yet it brought about a great deal of emotion. As a couple, they had to keep repeating such stuff over and over. The night had come in full and the moon shone above, perhaps a week at most away from being lush and full. The three-quarters moon was surrounded by a flurry of stars, all shining as magnificently as the paper lanterns and twinkling string-lights of the various booths and vendors. They sauntered through the bustling crowds towards one of the larger vendors, the stalls where all the street foods were bought. The stand served everything from hotdogs to steaks with side orders that one could choose from, as well.

"Tacos Señor! It's Tuesday, time for Tacos! 20 percent off! Spicy and saucy, crispy and meaty! We also have quesadilla and burritos! Sabrosa! (pecks lips)''

"Care for a taco?'' Ash offered.

"I'm down for it,'' May enthused, and Pikachu naturally agreed.

They edged closer to the food truck, and perused through the board to decide on their orders. Skimming the list up and down, Ash held up two fingers at the girl on the window.

"Two Barbacoa Tacos, with watermelon frescas and Tortilla chips, and,'' He looked over to May's shoulder, where Pikachu was peeping to find the sauces. The mouse, for his part, looked at the tables. "Cha~!" He spotted ketchup bottles - lots of them! "Chu! Chuchu!"

"And the mouse will have a bowl of Ketchup with a side of nachos.''

The girl quirked a brow, witnessing their deliberation.

Ash scratched his cheek. ''It's okay. Big fan of Ketchup since 1999.''

"I am not charging ketchup, sir. That's just gonna be nachos.'' The girl typed on the screen, pressing the digits.

"That's okay.'' Ash chirped, fishing out his wallet.

She took the pair's payment and gave them a number. "We'll have your order ready in ten minutes. Please find yourselves a table.''

Once they sat down, it was a short wait until their meal. Once it was at the table, the crew didn't take long to empty the plates. Nibbing on their last portion of tacos, and emptying their beverages, they left the stall, entering deeper into the festival.

As they walked along, they pointed out the various booths. Each tried out the bucking Tauros stall. Though Ash was stronger than May, she had a better sense of balance and thus she got the better time. They watched as the Spin the Wheel booth gambled with customers luck. They played a variety of games small prizes like charms and collectibles.

"Hey folks, step right up and play the 'Hit the Camerupt' game! All ya gotta do is hit the Camerupt and you'll win yourself an awesome prize!"

One boy went into a windup like a baseball pitcher and threw the small, green rubber ball, and she made a direct hit on the wooden Camerupt cutout, which made little wooden steam puffs pop out from behind the two humps on its back.

With May trying it, of course, she wasn't that adept in the technique and hit the vendor instead. Apologizing they scurried away shamefaced. They became a part of the large crowd that was swarming around the Goldeen scooping booth. They were still terrible at the Goldeen Scooping game, but it still drew the fun. Maybe the nets were rigged, but it was all about the technique. They walked along through the streets, marveling at how Dawn has managed to host such a breathtaking event. She had good tastes when it came to fun.

Hard won were two tickets to a train journey, a colorful notepad, and a shoe polishing set. All in all, it wasn't a bad haul for a night out among all the vendors and game booths. The sweetest treat, though, each of the teens decided, was just getting to hang out each other.

They watched the various dance performances and beautifully appreciated the choreography between the trainers and their Pokemon, and stood amongst the crowds until the parades passed by. Suddenly, there was an announcement on the PA System.

"Please gather at the square! Everybody please gather at the square. The main event will be starting soon.''

"Main event?'' Ash repeated, "I am pumped. Let's go.''

Hustling and bustling, the audience were seated in Twinleaf's amphitheater, which was large enough for even training grounds. In the center was Dawn, changed into her new attire, a glamorous Contest suit: the top of which was dark green and wrapped around her neck with a halter strap. The bottom of the dress was a much lighter green, to the point where it looked nearly white. There were four layers of petal shaped chiffon, floating out around the young coordinator. On her feet, she wore white ballet flats with green chiffon flowers on the toes, and while her hair was still down, her blue seashell clip had been replaced by one of a green flower. Her hair was completed with the two front layers down and one held back by her green flower hairclip. She stood staring down at her shoes, her hands balled into fists at her sides as she concentrated on her impending performance.

"She looks lovely!'' May eyes starred as she cupped her cheeks.

"Looks I get to see Dawn perform twice in a day,'' Ash smiled, complimenting his friend. She took a deep breath as she stepped into the fray, a fist clenched over her chest. 'Time to show them what we're made of!' Smiling wide, Dawn sprinted onto the stage, winding up two Pokeballs behind her back. Carrying herself with grace, she spun to the beats of the music, tossing two Pokeballs in the air. "Spotlight!''

An indeed it did. The lights in the amphitheater went out only for a large spotlight to illuminate the two inhabitants of the capsules. "Lav!" The fire type chanted, landing on all fours. Aiming to make a good starting impression, the pokemon expelled hot flames from her back. The second capsule spun, releasing Pachirisu in a swirling display of tiny pink hearts.

"Quilava, Swift! Pachirisu, Sweet Kiss!''

Rushing to the middle section of the field, Quilava opened her mouth releasing the starry, brilliance elegance of Swift. A belt of golden stars orbited her body before journeying into the air, while Pachirisu struck another cute pose, blowing a kiss that sent out a flurry of pink hearts. They swirled around the squirrel like a calm tornado, as Pachirisu lifted them up to the sky, the duo watching them mix into the sea of golden stars. Every heart found a partner in a star as they danced and twirled under the beauty of night interstellar.

"Now, Discharge!'' Dawn threw a hand forward. "Quilava, Flamewheel!''

The fire type quickly obliged, tucking into a sphere that surrounded itself in a roaring flame. A tight circle was torn around Dawn, her hair dancing in the wafts of heat thrown off. The hotter and more brilliantly colored the Quilava's flames grew, the further the second stage pokemon span around Dawn.

"Chi…chhiii…Pa!'' the EleSquirrel nodded, her blue electricity surging across the air. First, the currents separated, shattering the hearts and stars into pink and golden bursts. Finally, they ricocheted and found the balling fire type, causing her flames to now sparkle.

The flames around Quilava's body, burst into a brilliant blue.

"Now, Smokescreen!''

Quilava's paws pressed off the ground, vaulting her into the air. With a chime, she ignited her flames further, wrapped in a blue and orange aura of ordinarily the same balance. White-hot embers trailed her, as she spewed a thick black smoke cascading from her mouth. The air began to get dense and a black cloud appeared above the performers.

"Swift again!'' Dawn knew it was time to make good on what she was betting on.

Still invisible in the shroud, Quilava spiraled towards the ground, spitting numerous golden stars, cutting through the smoke, leaving black trails after the stars. The effect was mesmerizing. In mere moments, Dawn had created a small galaxy consisted of golden stars from the Swift and dark cloud from Smokescreen. It was like the stars of heaven bloomed in the velvet black. The common people were gifted with what lied far, far away from their planet.

Everybody was pleased, as just for an audience pleasure, they had received much more.

"Now Pachirisu, Flash!''

"Pa!'' the squirrel took a huge leap inside the cloud, cautious to hold her breath before a blinding illumination took over her form, but of course, thanks to the darkness, one could only see a faint glow inside the haze. A crystal imitation of the night's greatest light rose above the smog cloud, cutting through the darkness just in time for the black toxins to fade.

"We are not done! Pachirisu, Discharge once again!''

The Squirrel unfolded, letting loose a blue thunder shock, that whose volts connected the network of the golden starts to create something mesmerizing: a constellation of Aries! Constellations ignited the midnight sky as if choreographed upon celestial stage. Once the black smoke faded away, the trio got into position, with Dawn in the center with a respectful bow while Quilava and Pachirisu on each side, mirroring her royal actions. The light show seemed to have pleased the crowd, judging by the volume of their applause.

"She was impressive!'' Ash beamed, clapping as hard as he could, a proud feeling surging through his body. ''Watch out, May.''

"With that performance, it was out of this world,'' May giggled, brimmed with fiery competition. She could have gone down and pegged Dawn if she wanted to, but she needed to recreate herself first.

The crowd continue to bellow with cheers, enamored by the beautiful display. Johanna choked, wiping tear, waves of pride flowing in her heart, watching her daughter dazzle like that. The DJ zoomed the disk, seizing the ears from listening anymore music, as Dawn stepped on the field, a microphone in her hand.

"Thank you! Thank You everyone. As your host, I am extremely honored and privileged to speak to you on this momentous occasion. It is so wonderful to see and be in the company of so many friends, colleagues, and the wise sages of the atmospheric science community. We are here to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the day our ancestors found Twinleaf Town. My heartfelt thanks to all our friends from other cities and regions to join us here tonight and allowing us a chance to play your hosts, and special thanks to the Twinleaf Family on this special occasion. Since its beginnings, the town developed on the backs of hardworking citizens that gave of themselves to the industry they worked for and the community they loved. In 1994, the 'Sinnoh Life' magazine editor described Twinleaf as 'a picturesque town, especially at night when the great iron furnaces threw their blazing sparks into the dark night sky.' It is our duty to remember that the chronicles of our town record the names and great deeds of many outstanding sons and daughters of our homeland. Through their labour they have multiplied their achievements and passed them down to new generations.

It is pleasing to see that the young citizens of Twinleaf are becoming more involved in resolving the Town's pressing problems. Today Twinleaf is a highly diverse community with three public parks, a wide variety of housing opportunities, retail and office buildings and a multinational industrial park. Recent population data estimate our current population around 1500 people and there is an expectation the upcoming 2020 Federal census will confirm that number. With a vision and mission to make Twinleaf Town one of the vibrant and dynamic township with a bright future, it is my duty to inform you that the Mayor of Twinleaf Town, who could not be here on account of duties is working with multinational corporations on large projects related to infrastructure, City Department building expansions and City Staff additions among many other things that will carry the City forward for the next 50 or more years. The decisions made today truly will affect the lives of our children, grandchildren and beyond. It is a huge responsibility that all of us as City Leaders take very seriously as we serve the Town of Twinleaf!

With concluding the festival tonight, I would thank all the event planners, the stage hands, the tent setups, merchants and vendors to make this festival a rousing success! A special thanks to our department of public works for the hanging of our commemorative banner and clearing all the snow for us. As well, a special thanks to the volunteers that have worked to make all of this possible including Dianne Gorman who designed the logo postcard and the amazing banners that adorn our Main Street and beyond, Debi Hopkins, whose great grandfather Charles Ferns Hopkins is himself a storied hero of Twinleaf and the regular 40th committee members including Steve Bossen, Kelly Miniter, Jennifer Gallo, Stephanie Monrad, Jennifer Shollenberger, Tina Mezzina, Harold Johnson and Dee Kromka." the crowd cheered as Dawn expressed her gratitude to the staff before bowing down.

The speech riled up the audience as they rose and thunderous claps followed. Barry in particular, leaped to whistle, irritating Kenny seated next to him. With a complete glance of all her native residents cheering her on, the sweat rolled atop Dawn's cheek, as she breathed, once again bringing the mic to her lips.

"And now, to commemorate our occasion, I wouldn't be the best hostess if I let you return to you homes without witnessing the main event!'' she cheered riling the crowd further, balling her fist to emphasize the intensity.

The crowd roared, enlivened at the prospect. The moment was finally here.

"Now, it's no secret that we have a celebrity amongst us…'' Dawn hummed into the mic, to the tune of the deafening response. "And he's none other the man who almost beat Lance for the Kanto Championships!''

"What?'' Ash's face faulted as he stifled on his soda, scanning perplexingly as the fame of light highlighted his presence. "Me?''

"He's the hottest creation in Sports Entertainment. My friend, the Alola Region Champion and the Icon, Ash Ketchum!''

With continuous showers of applause, Ash smiled weakly at every face that had turned over to him. Exhaling, Dawn brushed a blue strand in front of her hair aside, to glee into the mic, ''who will be battling our very own, the Tower Tycoon…Mr. Palmer!''

"Me against Palmer?'' Ash gawked, eye tweaking. ''Geez, what does a guy have to do to get a break around here?''

"I guess that was Dawn's surprise for you.'' May giggled, turning over to her boyfriend. ''Guess you wouldn't wanna disappoint everybody now.''

"She just sprung it on me,'' Ash stood up, handing Pikachu over to May. ''Like I have a choice.''

"Well, good luck.''

'Babe, come on.'' Ash shrug his shoulders, requesting the people seated in the row, to scoot their legs behind so he could make his way. Descending the ramp down, he ignored a rowdy Barry who was withheld by some citizens, as he tried to make a mockery out of Ash. However, his jokes horribly failed to elicit a laughter. He wordlessly headed over to Dawn, brows still furrowed in an inquisitive manner. With a teasing smile and a wink, she continued to introduce the second competitor of the exhibition match.

"Now, give a nice, loud welcome to our hero, the unstoppable Tycoon Palmer!''

Although he was a little tiffed with Dawn stating 'our' in a manner she was choosing sides with Palmer, Ash didn't take a bit offense to the wilder response from the crowd, as the Frontier Brain made his way to the amphitheater. The blonde senior could seen to be have aged a lot, with his wrinkles now a huge part of his face. However, he still donned a fashionable attire that said 'I am still thirty'. Brown coat had now replaced the green one while the man remained layered in Texan fashion with the boots and the pants. Lemon attractive blonde hair was now turned banana colored textured, however the eyes still remained demanding for attention.

Palmer made his way through the crowd, screaming out a victory cry like he had already won the battle, making the clamors of the crowd grow in intensity. Palmer grinned as Dawn walked up to him, holding the mic near his face.

"Palmer,'' Dawn spoke, as the Frontier Brain was busy waving to the crowds. ''You have been a part of Twinleaf Festival for over 35 years. How does it make you feel to be the showstopper of every year?''

"Dawn dear,'' Palmer breathed into the mic, making the crowd scream in frenzy. ''This is an incredible moment, and an incredible opportunity to be part of this event. When I realized that this day was around the clock, I couldn't wait to make my presence here. To see my family, my people, my fans! And you seem to have done a good job, dear, because this night has been one of the most memorable events of all time!''

For the residents, there couldn't have been a quieter way to agree.

"Showoff…'' Ash mumbled.

"And Dawn, I couldn't agree with you more! To make this year special, what better way to end the Festival with a clash between a Frontier Brain and a Champion.''

With a hand outstretched, Palmer forwarded it to greet Ash. He gladly accepted.

"Nice to have you back here, son. You have electrified the event, and for that, thank you..'' Palmer addressed. "Look what a fine young man you have become.

"The pleasure is all mine, Palmer. How have you been?''

"I have been doing great, although these white hairs are all Barry!'' Palmer guffawed. "Isn't it astounding, you get your rematch on the same grounds?"

"Nah,'' Ash refused to agree. ''I was anticipating it. You know a loss always hurts.''

"So this will be a payback?'' Palmer chuckled.

"It will be a statement.'' Ash smirked, as they two continued shaking their hands. "Fifty bucks says I win.''

"Oh we won't be wagering money today.''

"Then I get to claim your son's fines.''

"Well then someone just ring the bell!'' Palmer snickered with overconfidence.

The two trainer took their spots on the battlefield. He surveyed the field, that the amphitheater had just given birth to: a typical rocky terrain. The battlefield was of course regulation size but rather than be just earth, it was filled with large rocks and boulders in random places on the battlefield providing cover and vantage points for certain Pokémon. it was similar in a lot of ways to the Pewter Gym so it was familiar to Ash. But well, it could actually be a great practice for Oreburgh Gym

Palmer was one of the most analytical trainers of his time, and one of the fundamental strategists known in Sinnoh. His best skills lay in his ability to study and observe his Pokémon but his weakness was his reliance of what he deemed to be basics. Fundamentals could only take you so far, it was the nuances that carried the day. The main one being forming a deep and loving bond with your Pokémon. That was, at least as Ash saw it, the key to victory. Battling a veteran was always a hard job to get done.

All that had to be put to the back of his mind though. The battle was now at hand and Ash had to be in the zone for it, both his tactical plan and be ready to improvise at a moment's notice. He widened his position, locking gazes with Palmer's steely look.

"It seems like the past knew we will one day face each other again, Ash.'' Palmer said. "The question remains will the course of events repeat or will they change? So let's make a promise Ash, to give them people of this town a battle they won't forget.''

Ash smirked with a snort. ''Trust me. They won't. You won't. Barry won't. I won't.''

"I appreciate the confidence,'' Palmer cackled. ''Sadly, that's the first thing I break in trainers.''

The referee stepped on the sideline, throwing his arms down. ''The Battle between Palmer of Twinleaf Town and Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town will now begin! Each Trainer shall use only one Pokemon, and the battle will be over if either party's Pokemon is unable to battle. In the events of tie, this match shall be considered as a draw with Palmer's streak still unbeatable. There is no time limit and trainers will refrain from using any healing items.'' The referee dictated the rules.

"Are both trainers ready?" The referee asked checking the time on his watch to make sure it was started on time and Ash and Palmer both nodded in confirmation. "Then, begin!"

"Alright! Time to get this battle started!" The Sinnoh Tower Tycoon reached for a Pokéball and tossed it out like a baseball pitcher, "Rhyperior, go!"

With a flash of white light, boulders suddenly burst out of the ground surrounding the huge Pokémon that roared upon release. Rhyperior's booming voice was heard in front of Palmer as the lights materialized into the Drill Pokemon.

"That thing is gigantic! I wouldn't wanna meet that Pokémon in a dark alley!" May exclaimed…''Or anywhere else…''

"Torterra, I choose you!''

"Terra!''

The colossal tortoise nearly claimed a huge portion of the area, the ground shook, attesting to the grass-type's sheer weight. Oh, the smell…was he in Sinnoh again? And who was this trainer in the opposite? The grass type got a faint recognition. Oh yeah, it was the showoff. And who was this Pokemon towering him? It was the very Pokemon that had hadn't him the loss and a humiliation. The large tortoise grinned, finally receiving a battle he waited for. Rhyperior was the Pokemon he wasn't able to beat, but he was just a Grotle back then. Now things are different.

"Hey, this is a déjà vu,'' Dawn tittered, seated next to May where Ash was seated.

"What do you mean?'' May twisted her lips.

"Remember that time when Ash was journeying in Sinnoh. He participated in the Festival Battle Challenge and as the prize, earned a chance to face Palmer. Ash went with Grotle while Palmer chose his Rhyperior. Despite a double type advantage and even getting Rhyperior on the edge, Grotle ended up losing."

"And that is why Ash has chosen Torterra for this battle,'' May understood. "I would have gone with Samurott or Lucario if I were Ash.''

"Torterra is one Pokemon that can battle that beast in a brawn vs brawn match,'' Dawn added. "Ash must have read Torterra's feelings ever since he knew he was going to battle Palmer. Seems like Torterra has grown to be just as stubborn as Floatzel. They won't accept a loss so easily.''

'Ah...so you are not the only one seeking a payback?'' Palmer chuckled.

"You really think I am that petty,'' Ash quirked a brow, throwing a hand out to commence the battle. ''Torterra! Rhyperior is no pushover, you know that!''

"Terra!'' the giant reptile dug his feet into the ground.

"Alright! Energy Ball!''

Conjuring a powerful concentrated ball of vibrant emerald energy, Torterra launched it forward. Dust kicked up in its wake, showcasing its size and power. The Drill Pokemon sneered, explosion rippling around it as it accepted the blast head-on. Just as anticipated, the smoke cleared to reveal the silhouette of the behemoth, smirking.

"Solid Rock…'' Ash muttered, remembering that Rhypherior had the ability to limit the damage of super-effective attacks.

Rhypherior's smirk churned into a small wince, as the blow was a deadly one. Solid Rock was able to nerf the grass type move to some extent, however, this was a mass brute they were dealing with. The tortoise wasn't to be taken lightly.

"I would say Ash, if it wasn't for Solid Rock, you were halfway winning this battle,'' Palmer grinned, tightening his gloves. ''But what worked before, shall work once again.''

Rhypherior slammed its onyx hands, the orange plates lit up in crimson as if they had just quaffed down a massive portion of Rhyperior's weight. The earth exploded as it pulsed forward, truly not giving them a moment of chance.

"Torterra, Earth Power on the field now!''

Torterra struck the ground once more. An earth-shaking force ran throughout the field, letting loose slivers of golden lights before the tremors set in. Like a geyser erupting, Rhyperior faced the wrath of the earth, forcing to lose its forced proximity to the Continental Pokemon. Ash and Torterra were not just asking for it, they were demanding it!

Scorching mucks of earth assaulted the gargantuan, as it backpedaled to avoid catastrophic injuries from the excretions of the earth jutting out, now being elevated.

Dawn and May whooped, thoroughly impressed.

Palmer managed a weak smile, his strategy miserably failing. Judging from his experience, that had taken a nasty toll on his rock type. Rhypherior managed to stumble upon the cracked floor, waiting. Palmer frowned, now they had to take a step forward. Sandstorm would be the perfect strategy if Torterra wasn't a part ground type.

"Rhyperior, Flamethrower!''

Rhyperior roared, launching a torrent of flames.

Ash's expression was stern. "Charge through the flames, Torterra!''

"Terra!'' Torterra roared, stomping forward into the brunt of the flamethrower.

Palmer watched, standing still, totally amazed.

"Since the house is on fire, no harm taking a little heat,'' Ash boasted. "Now, Giga Drain!''

Flamethrower came to an end, and emerald wisps burst out from the smoke, ensnaring Rhyperior, sapping away its strength. Rhyperior roared in protest, irritated by the parasitic force. The damage dealt was minimal, but unpleasant, as it was turning the tides.

"Megahorn!''

Grunting in undignified fury, Rhyperior bucked its head, prodding forward. The strain of the vines loosened as Torterra made the perfect target. "erior!'' it roared, slamming its shining spike into Torterra's shell. Torterra grumbled, hated to be made skid away. His feet found leverage in the earth making the grass type take up his position once again. Ash however, showed no signs of alarm.

"Megahorn again!''

Rhyperior thundered forward again like a blitz, still under the effects of Rock Polish, its horn taking another bright flash.

"Oh man, that thing's moving really fast!" Kenny gulped.

Barry just snickered. "Let's see Ash get outta this."

"Giga Drain, wrap it around yourself!'' Ash shocked everybody with the move.

The protrusions upon Torterra's back drew out, the tendrils wrapping Torterra into a thick protective layer of forest emerald. However, knowing their role, the parasitic tendrils would suck power only upon Torterra's command which he didn't give. Rhyperior already converged upon Torterra slamming into him, however, the Torterra was far to protected to feel any damage.

"I couldn't have imagined in a hundred years, Ash would use Giga Drain like that!'' Dawn gasped. ''Guess he isn't called mastermind of offensive innovation for nothing…''

"Terra!'' the tortoise cried, as the vines receded back into the three spikes. Rhyperior hissed in return. It would not be out-muscled here.

"Rock Wrecker!''

Rhyperior roared into its trainer's cry, a snarl on its visage at the competition presented. Expanding the distance between its two stony arms, and from the holes in its small gaps, small chunks of rocks began conjuring a large gray rock.

"Energy Ball!''

"Perior!'' Rhyperior finished lobbing the large chunk of pulsing-red stone at Torterra's figure.

"Tor!" With a belch, Torterra sent off the jiggly, brilliant green sphere of ultra-dense forest energy. Even though not as solid as the devastating Rock Wrecker itself, the energy sphere was filled with potency that cleaved the rock cleanly, grinding it into sediment and blasting Rhyperior.

"What?!'' Barry gawked, tugging his hair. ''An attack shouldn't be that strong!''

But of course, the games had just begun.

"Rock Polish!'' Palmer decided. Rhyperior's plates were activating again.

"What good is that speed when you can't even move?'' Ash jeered. ''Rock Climb!''

The grass type obeyed, lifting his hind legs for just an instant, and slammed its two front feet into the ground with a concussive force that made even referee's ears hurt. A tremor shot across isolating Rhyperior atop a rocky outcrop. The rock type who had just gained an accretion in speed, stumbled, barely able to maintain balance. It was a shame that Rock Polish had gone down the drain a second straight time.

Now Torterra was awarded an aerial view of the opponent, however this Rock Climb not was meant to be trailing path for the turtle to mount, No! It was a single pillar born to the earth, whose purpose was to elevate the Drill Pokemon skyward. There was no path for Torterra to charge was gonna be a change in strategy. With evasion almost impossible for the giant tortoise to learn, long range attacks was the perfect game play.

Rhyperior scanned the field, there was practically no escape. Risking a leap thirty feet below on the ground didn't seem wise. It hated to admit it, but it was stuck.

"Rhyperior is not able to move a feet anywhere,'' Kenny awed.

Two rows behind him, Dawn remarked. ''Rhyperior is now a sitting duck.''

Palmer grit. Not even a single move from Rhyperior's move set was helping here. Ash had him backed against the walls.

"Earth Power!'' Ash threw an arm forward, fingers coming together to form a fist.

Stomping his feet again, Torterra initiated the disruptive move once again, sending golden. Palmer braced itself confident that his Pokemon would endure it, however that move was perilous not very long ago. The cracks began to travel atop the earthly prolongation, splitting it into smaller fragments. An explosion from the seismic disruption sent Rhyperior soaring, heavy body falling of the tower, and colliding on the ground, planted right into the face of the earth.

Palmer looked on shockingly, waiting for the dust to settle on back on the ground. And when it did, the scene did bring a smile on everyone's face except for two blondes. The combined forces of Rock Climb and Earth Power was too much for Rhyperior to handle in his present state, and the rock type was found buried into a pile of rocks, simply rendered unconscious.

"Rhyperior is unable to battle!'' the referee announced his verdict. ''The winners are Ash and Torterra!''

The crowd roared in an united approval, thrilled at the outcome of the battle, much rather to be disappointed by their star's loss.

"Torterra, we did it!'' Ash smirked, walking on the battlefield, to place his hand on the grass type's head. ''Extremely amazing!''

"Terra!'' Satisfied that he had overcame the challenge, the tortoise took pleasure in his trainer's praises. Meganium was right. There was always an outer world feeling to be praised for the Pokemon' efforts. He nuzzled Ash's cheek, as the raven haired man chuckled, returning the reptile back in his capsule.

"He did it!'' May squealed with joy, hugging Pikachu tighter.

"He beat my dad?!'' Barry yelped in anger, stomping his feet. ''I'm gonna fine him so hard for embarrassing my dad like this!''

"Hey hey,'' Kenny scoffed. ''Don't stamp on my shoes!''

"Well, my boy,'' Palmer thwacked Ash's shoulder hard, any senior would pick an odd sense of affection. ''You and your Pokemon definitely put a lot of strength into everything. Rhyperior has never been defeated this fast, and you seem to be the only trainer possible to do so. You have earned this victory, son.'' The Tower Tycoon held out his hand to shake, and relinquishing a smile, Ash gladly took it.

"That was fun, Palmer.''

"Since you are gonna be in Sinnoh for a while, how about stopping by the Battle Tower?'' Palmer proposed. "Give this oldy a rematch?''

"Definitely, Palmer.''

"Guess that's my cue,'' Dawn sheepishly poked out her tongue and announced the end of the event, after running hastily on the field. "Thank You, Ash! Thank You, Palmer! Please give a big hand to both the trainers for such a hair raising battle! With that our Twinleaf Festival has finally come to an end! But we ain't gonna hit the sack just yet! Play the music and just Party!''

The crowds rustled up from their seats, clapping wildly for the whole town to hear.

XXXXX

The crowd cheered and began heading off to the center of Twinleaf Town, where several booths for food and games had been moved to for the end of the Twinleaf Festival. By this time, the sun had gone down and the area was being lit up by several paper lamps that had been hung by streamers all over the area. In the center of the town was a tall platform where the DJ had set up shop, and was currently playing music that could be heard all throughout the Festival grounds via speakers that picked up on the wireless signals.

They sat in a circle. Ash appeared to regale Barry with the stories of all his Pokemon, while May and Johanna shared a conversation. Dawn remained talking with Kenny. They had let their Pokemon out merrily enjoying the festival as it was coming to an end.

"You know Dawn'' Ash exclaimed. ''I was anticipating a disaster, but I think you did a great job.''

""For sure!" Kenny agreed. "In fact, I think this is the best Twinleaf Festival we've ever had! We should let Dee-Dee run the show every year.''

"Oh, it's that name again..'' Dawn groaned. ''Kenny you promised!''

"Dee-Dee! That's right!'' Ash's face lit up. ''I knew I was forgetting something!''

"Not you too! You should be on my side!'' Dawn pouted. ''Maybe I should bring in May to restore the balance.''

"Yeah,'' Ash nodded. ''Ask her to bring me some can-dee.''

"Hey, quit it!'' the red glares of the blunette shone upon the giggling faces of Ash and Kenny.

"Hey what do you guys think about me becoming the next Tycoon Tower,'' Barry squealed, popping a jelly bean in his mouth.

"The Battle Tower gets sealed the next day,'' Ash poked.

"What?!''

Smiling in exasperation. ''Just kidding. You are just as good as me and Paul, you know that.''

"That's true! I have the makings of a Champion. Maybe someday I could beat Cynthia!'' he took a harsh bite out of his candy bar to punctuate his statement.

"I wouldn't go that far,'' Ash rolled his eyes. ''You should try beating your dad first. Ask me, it's an amazing feeling.''

Barry swallowed his snack, "Pfft, gimme a break." He waved his candy around dismissively. "Today wasn't a real challenge. Rhyperior wasn't his hundred percent, maybe he ate something bad. Have you beaten him for the Tower Symbol?"

"Sounds like another lame excuse if you ask me," Kenny commented.

Barry narrowed his eyes at the Coordinator and scowled, "I didn't ask you."

Luckily for his mood swing, a song started playing over the speakers and his attention was immediately diverted once more. "HEY! What's up?!" he shouted as he got back to his feet. "It's an annual tradition that I'm supposed to sing the last song with all of them too!" Barry swallowed the rest of his chocolate and rushed over to the DJ booth, "HOLD ON! HOLD ON!"

"There's never a dull moment with him." May chuckled, walking into the group. ''I hardly know him, bt my head goes spinning as he starts talking.''

"That's Barry for you," Dawn added with a smile. "It's impossible to be bored with him around."

"It's also impossible to get a moment's peace." Kenny smirked.

Dawn shrugged her shoulder, ''But it would be more terrible if that face stops talking.''

"Babe, I was so inspired by you battling, I just found a reason to wake up early and start some training!'' May sat next to him, kissing his nose.

"Get two reasons,'' Ash laughed. ''Cause we need to get up early if we wanna stop by Professor Rowan's. I would hate explaining Gary why I was delaying.''

"Aw, alright.'' May pouted sweetly.

"So you guys leaving tomorrow,'' Dawn sighed. ''I was hoping we could do a couple of more things together!''

"We can,'' Ash replied. ''Hey, wanna come with us for old time sake!''

Kenny's heartbeat paced. Once again, the fear of Dawn being around Ash pricked his heart. Before Dawn could even finish pondering upon Ash's offer, Kenny squealed, ''Dawn! Can I…possibly get you to come with me for a moment? I need to say something to you in private."

"Uhh...Kenny,'' Dawn purred. ''Can't it wait?''

"Do you guys mind?'' Kenny turned over to the couple, ''I'll need to borrow her for just a minute.''

"Sure man!'' Ash agreed, and May just nodded.

"We'll be right back.'' Dawn informed, as she along with the chestnut haired trainer turned around, and started walking. May just squeezed Ash's and in ecstasy, a part of her knowing that Kenny wanted to confess his feelings. They walked across the street, where Kenny led Dawn under a cherry blossom tree that stood by its lonesome in the middle of the town. Being winter, the tree was snow clad, but the sparkling white was a beauty in itself. One could barely hear the music and chattering from the people at the festival, giving them the perfect quiet spot. She stood on one side, with Kenny being on the other. He gazed into her azure eyes, just wanting to be lost in them forever.

"So Kenny?'' the blunette asked, jarring him from his trance. "What is it you wanted to say?''

The auburn-haired boy ran a finger through his messy hair before rubbing his left arm with his opposite arm. Kenny gulped a bit and began to open his mouth, preparing to give her an answer. I can do this…I can do this. The words repeated in his head.

"Dawn…I just…wanted to..say that..''

And sorry, but cliffhangers are the best way to end a chapter! All I would say is Dawn is there for the next chapter as well! She's kinda grown on me. Also, prepared to be surprised in the next chapter. Don't count on anything. Because another surprise unfolds.

Now about this chapter, it was fun to write. I couldn't miss the opportunity to write Twinleaf Festival and I just had to. So who knows if the Twinleaf Festival comes around New Year or not. It's not like the anime ever shown any festive celebrations. I thought Dawn emceeing the event would be much better than Johanna. She seems like yesterday. And Dawn seemed the perfect contender to fill her mother's spot. So with Pachirisu all six of Dawn's Pokemon were revealed. Her non canon catches will be shown as the Contests chapter comes. Barry was purposely made hilarious, and Kenny had to be shown jealous as always. For Palmer, I couldn't think any better option than Torterra. The battle was small but to maintain the size of the chapter I had to trim it a bit. The most challenging part of writing Torterra is that to make the Pokemon shelf on the same level as Sceptile and Venusaur, you need to give it a proper move-set. My original idea was Superpower, Wood Hammer, Giga Drain and Frenzy Plant, and I immediately saw the default when three moves end up costing Torterra something. Still I think Earth Power is much handy when Torterra will battle a fire and electric type.

Next Chapter, is gonna be a continuation about this Penguinshipping thing, but again don't keep any hopes. This is for Penguinshipping fans. The next chapter is mostly gonna be about May and a screentime for couple of her Pokemon. I am gonna start with Blaziken. I am trying to revive that mentor-student relationship Ash and May always had. So please stay tuned for next chapter. Possible earliest date would be y next week.

With anime on a break, there's nothing to talk about it, so goodbye for now.
