A/N: I have to agree, I think Fluder's and Arche's talent let them see how strong a magic caster a person is, not the mana pool they have. Either that, or they can see the mana pool and estimate based on that, but since they're never wrong, even regarding tiers they've never seen before, I think it's the first case. As it is, Fluder knows that Ainz is a tenth tier caster though he probably had never seen a caster that strong before, so that probably is the case. Noonelive, I think that answers your question. kydemonic, I'm not looking for an editor, but if you see an error, tell me and I'll fix it. The aging thing and healing magic is a nice theory that recordman came up with, but if that were the case, I don't think the Six Gods would've all died due to age except for Surshana.
As for Guest, I kind of find it funny that you think the Death Knight was the poor one and not the people being attacked- as it was the Death Knight was not a summon of Suzuki but just something made by the Orb of Death, and even in the original story Ainz would gladly sacrifice his summons if it would give him even one percent of extra power, so I don't see the problem.
Ralph heard the door of his shop open as his two favorite customers walked in- they weren't favorite just because of Ralph really admired their feats, but also because they had dropped a massive amount of gold on his wares.
"Suzuki-san! What can I get you for?" he asked, putting on his best smile. "Eh- is something wrong?'
Suzuki perked up and said, "Ah, nothing- just didn't find something we were looking for- but it isn't a big issue. There were actually a few things I wanted to buy- and also a favor I wanted to ask of you."
This was all music to Ralph's ears. "So what can I do you for?"
"Do you still have that lamp you showed me earlier?" Suzuki asked.
"Indeed, just wait a second," Ralph said. He pulled out a very exquisite lamp that gave off an unsettling eerie black glow- if it was possible to create something like a "flashdark" instead of a flashlight, this would be it. "The Lamp of Shadows- you'll be taking this then?"
The item had excellent and powerful anti-divination properties- it would shield a large area from divination magic up to that of the fifth tier.
Sadly, it had two major drawbacks. First of all, it required its user to be a second tier magic caster at minimum, and secondly, it required the user to remain stationary for its effect to take place. As such, it was absolutely useless for an adventurer, and no country or nobleman would find it feasible to have a second tier caster stand around all day long, given that the item's power would disappear when it was being transferred to someone else. It would be far easier to simply cover a room in metal plates if one wanted secrecy. While the design was quite elegant and it possessed a strange haunting beauty, being a niche magical item it was priced highly and hardly anyone would purchase it just for aesthetic purposes.
Earlier, Suzuki had deemed the item unworthy because of these reasons, but, given the Elder Liches he made would have no problem using this item, it was worth purchasing it now.
Suzuki laid out eighty gold pieces on the counter. It was expensive, but his personal account was still well-filled, and he felt that he needed this item. After all, only a fool would pay for something as trivial as a lamp with money that they didn't have.
"Right, but let's settle the price at seventy-five, you know," Ralph said. The discount was because Suzuki was a regular customer, and Ralph felt that the small discount was warranted to build a bit of rapport with Suzuki.
"Thank you very much. Ah, and that Crystal Apple and the Mermaid's Chalice," Suzuki said.
The Crystal Apple was a normal-looking apple, but once an hour, a person could expend three mana points to regenerate it from its core. In short, if one had enough mana, one could subsist on it for forever theoretically. The Mermaid's Chalice was a far weaker version of the Pitcher of Infinite Water that Suzuki had back in Yggdrasil, this item could produce a large, but finite amount of cold water at the expense of some amount of mana.
"Do you still have the Thief's Chime?" Suzuki asked. This raised an eyebrow, but Ralph came back with a small crystal bell. It could open locks, but it was only equivalent to about a second tier spell and could only be used once a day.
Suzuki laid out a hundred and twenty gold pieces for these other purchases.
"If you don't mind me asking, why the sudden interest in these kinds of items?" Ralph asked. They were the kind that someone like Suzuki would not normally need.
"Ah, we're planning on going on a long journey of sorts, and I thought these kinds of things might be necessary," Suzuki explained.
"A long journey? Away from E-Rantel?" Ralph sounded quite crestfallen.
"Yes, but there was a favor I wanted to ask you first," Suzuki said. "Is the option to fight with the... what was it? Martial Lord still on the table?"
Ralph's eyes widened and he said, "Of course! You'll need to talk to Osk first, he's currently in the Empire, but I think I can arrange a meeting with him, if you'd like to meet him personally?"
"Yes, that would be acceptable," Suzuki said. "Uh... eh... um..."
Ralph was suddenly going around with increasing impatience. "Sorry- I need to start planning to close the shop. I wouldn't miss that fight for the world!"
"Uh, the fight isn't confirmed yet," Suzuki pointed out. He wanted some information on this Martial Lord before he committed himself to a fight- the incident with the demon tree had taught him that he couldn't be too reckless. "And it will take a few weeks to schedule, right?"
"Yes, but I need to prepare things if I'm going there," Ralph said. "You're staying at the Shining Golden Pavilion Inn, correct?"
"Right," Suzuki said. "Well, that's all for now, so we'll get going..."
Ralph contacted them later that evening telling them that Osk was out somewhere, but he had managed to get them a meeting scheduled for two weeks later. Suzuki was in no hurry, so this was fine.
He then went and told the Adventurer's Guild that he and Albedo would be leaving for a few months- this alarmed Ainzach quite a bit but Suzuki did his best to reassure him that it was only for a short time.
This was sort of a lie- Suzuki didn't know how long their journey would take, and it could very well take several years. But, he figured he could always teleport back here if he was ever needed, so it wasn't completely false.
Suzuki's plan, or what had been formed of a plan up till now, went something like this:
First, they would travel to the Empire, where they would attempt to gain Fluder's secret of immortality, fight the Martial Lord, and look for any rare magic items they could find there.
After that, they would travel to the Draconic Kingdom. If their plan with Fluder failed, they would try to obtain the Dragon Queen's secret to immortality. The fact that she could apparently turn herself back into a child reminded Suzuki of a certain species of jellyfish which could restart its life cycle- a fact that Blue Planet had mentioned once. Suzuki would leverage their ability to deal with the beastmen hordes threatening her country to obtain this information, and they might even be able to bargain for rare magical items they could not otherwise obtain. Furthermore, the vast number of beastmen would be a plentiful source of XP for Suzuki, so this was going to be a win-win situation for them even if all they could get out of it was some gold.
From there on out Suzuki's plan was less well developed. He wanted to go further east in order to find treasures which were said to be located in countries which had been destroyed long ago by the Evil Deities. Several of these countries were still in ruin till this day, but Suzuki had very little information on them aside from rumors and hearsay. He hoped he could gain more intel as they traveled to countries closer to the center of the continent.
Suzuki and Albedo were able to gain an audience with Fluder sooner than they had been able to with Osk, which was quite surprising to Suzuki. He had thought that they would be asked to wait for a month or longer, but they had been told that Fluder would meet them within the hour and had been taken to a reception room to wait where they were served drinks while waiting.
An hour passed, and they were led to a large room.
Fluder Paradyne had accepted to see them so soon because unlike the nobles, he truly did not care for ceremony. Also, he had actually only recently been tasked by the Emperor to collect information on the new magic caster who had appeared near E-Rantel by the name of Suzuki Satoru; furthermore he too was curious about this magic caster who had suddenly rocketed to fame as an Adamantite ranked adventurer within the span of a single month.
As he had been contemplating possible strategies to gather information on Suzuki, a knight came in to tell him that the target he wanted to gather more information on had wandered right into his stronghold and requested to meet with him. It was as if the fish in a lake had suddenly began jumping out of the water and landing right into a fisherman's boat- the fisherman would have trouble believing his eyes when he saw what had happened.
Still, Fluder put on a gentle smile to project the image of the wise magic caster that he was widely viewed as in the Empire as two people walked in.
Fluder could sense nothing from the warrior in black armor, but that was to be expected.
What he had not expected was the absolute surge of power that erupted from the man standing before him.
The seventh- no, this was magic of the eighth tier! A tidal wave of jealousy rose up in him- just when he thought that he had surpassed the only other human who could be his rival, this man came and shattered all notions of superiority that he had.
He, who could rival the Thirteen Heroes, who had reached the sixth tier, which was considered terra incognita amongst humans, knew that he could not rival this magic caster. The tiers of magic were staggered so that the gap between the second and third tier was greater than that between the first and second tier, and so on and so forth. Given that, his estimates of what an eight tier caster could achieve... well, this man could probably kill Fluder in a single spell. He had heard rumors of creatures known as Night Liches who could use magic of the eighth tier, but those had simply been stories of legend. This was the first time he had been able to see one in the flesh.
His jealousy turned to confusion. Who was this man? He appeared to only in his thirties, but even a genius would find it hard to reach even the fourth tier by that time. Was he hiding his age? If so, why had Fluder never heard of him until but a month ago?
Confusion turned to anger. Fluder had spent the better part of two hundred years studying magic. Why was this young upstart able to exceed him? Why was-
"Well met, Fluder-dono," Suzuki said and snapped Fluder out of his train of thought.
Fluder was unsure of how to respond and stammered a bit before saying, "Ah-Ah, yes, well met, Suzuki-dono. I apologize for making the two of you wait."
"No problem, it is only understandable that someone of your station would be busy," Suzuki said. "If anything, I am grateful that you were able to see us on such short notice."
"It is no problem, please sit down," Fluder said, somewhat calming himself down. The woman removed her helmet to reveal a face that looked like it had been sculpted by the goddess of beauty herself.
The fanatical wizard who would do anything to peer into the abyss of magic was once again replaced by the wise sage of the Empire- for now at least.
They exchanged pleasantries, but Fluder could tell that this man wasn't here to talk about the weather and how Fluder's health was going. After a brief silence, it appeared that the man was getting to the real reason he was here.
"We had approached Fluder-dono to request his wisdom on a certain matter," Suzuki sad. "We have heard that you were able to extend your lifetime using a magic ritual, is that correct?"
Fluder nodded. "Yes- that is true, though it was supposed to grant me immortality. It seems that it failed however, and only delayed my inevitable death."
"I see," Suzuki said. "I would request that you once again perform the ritual, this time on me. I would like to extend my own life. Of course, I would not ask for something such as that, without first offering something in return." Suzuki then pulled out a spell scroll. They had very few of them, and Suzuki had been hesitant to part with this, but Albedo had said that it was the best way to gain a favor from Fluder. Also, the scroll contained the spell Create Undead 8th which Suzuki already knew, so one could say that it was not too big of a loss.
Fluder took the scroll, opened it, and found that he could not read the language written on it. He then cast appraisal magic and nearly leapt out of his seat.
An eighth tier scroll- he had never even heard of such a thing! He had long held bitter resentment by the fact that he was denied any rare magic items when he had travelled to Eryuentiu. This scroll had enough power to eliminate a city with ease. The price for such an item was likely greater than the annual revenue of the entire Empire of Baharuth. And this could be his...
After a moment of contemplation and hesitation, he handed Suzuki the scroll back. "Thank you for the offer, but I will not be accepting this."
Suzuki was quite confused- from what they had heard about Fluder he should not have rejected their offer. He was also rather afraid that Albedo might suddenly go ahead and threaten to tear Fluder's head off if he refused to help them.
"I would like something else as payment," Fluder said, sparing him from Albedo's wrath. He scratched his chin. "But it will take me some time to tell you what it is..."
Suzuki was really confused now- since Fluder hadn't told them what he wanted that meant that in theory he could ask for anything later, and it would be hard for them to refuse. Fluder seemed to have sensed Suzuki's apprehension, and said, "Of course, I will tell you before performing the ritual, and you will have the opportunity to refuse if you do not accept."
Suzuki relaxed a little.
"There are regents I need to gather for the ritual," Fluder said. "I can accumulate most of them myself, but the ritual also required the heart of a dragon. I do not have the time to leave this place, so I will need you to find that yourselves."
"Oh, I see," Suzuki said. "Will any dragon work?"
"Indeed, dragons are immortal creature, and one may extract the secret of eternal life from their hearts," Fluder explained. "Any one will do, even a weak one, there are rumors of several living in the Forest of Tob, so you might want to start looking there."
"Understood," Suzuki said.
Fluder shifted uncomfortably. Much of this situation did not add up. For one, given that he and Rigrit had found ways to elongate their lifespans and the two of them were only capable of using sixth tier magic, how was it possible that this man was not able to do so and had come to Fluder for help?
"If you don't mind me asking, Suzuki-dono, how long have you been practicing magic?" Fluder asked.
"Eleven years," Suzuki said. When he said this, he included his years spent in Yggdrasil. As it was, if he had answered with "less than two months" Fluder's head might've exploded, but even then, Fluder was left gnashing his teeth.
Eleven years... to exceed what he had done in over two hundred by four or five times!
"And how old are you?" Fluder asked.
"Thirty-two," Suzuki answered. Fluder thought the man looked a bit older than that, but it wasn't completely unreasonable based on appearances alone. But to have gained so much power so fast... not to mention it was incredibly unusual for someone to start learning magic at the age of twenty-one, most began when they were teenagers...
...but wait...
What if it was a trick? If this man had found a way to fool Fluder's talent? Such a thing had never happened before, but he certainly could not rule it out...
"Ah, and who was your teacher?" Fluder asked.
"Hmm? No one. I was self-taught," Suzuki said.
At this, Fluder could take no more and angrily stood up, pointing a shaking finger at Suzuki. "Liar! You lie! No man can reach that height so fast without guidance!"
Before Albedo could do anything Fluder had already sat down and said, "My apologies. I lost control right there."
Suzuki was more surprised at how quickly Fluder had oscillated between rage and calmness than he was at the contents of the outburst itself.
"The thing though is, however, Suzuki-dono, that I cannot accept that a person has reached the eighth tier of magic without outside help, and that too within a time span of little over a decade," Fluder said. Common sense told him that none of those things could possibly be correct.
"Wait- how do you know that I can use eighth tier magic?" Suzuki asked.
"Ah, it is a talent I possess," Fluder siad.
Suzuki had an incredulous look on his face- he was berating himself for not noticing this and also that during his intelligence gathering he had not picked it up. Then again, Fluder had surprised him by meeting with them so soon, and as such their intelligence gathering was only superficial. Albedo had an item that seemed to have shielded her from such kind of divination, which was why Fluder couldn't see her potential, but Suzuki very well couldn't take it from Albedo now that Fluder had already seen it, also, it would be more problematic if he could see what Albedo could do if he was impressed by just the eighth tier.
"Ah, I apologize," Fluder said and bowed his head. It was only to be expected that certain people would consider it an invasion of privacy and quite rude on his part. The thing was though that he had no real way of turning it off. "But I cannot stop doing it..."
Suzuki sighed. "Well then, it can't be helped. However, whether or not you believe me, Fluder-dono, what I have said is indeed true. Do you require a demonstration of my power, in case you still have doubts?"
Was it possible that this person could control that monster Fluder had chained away in the depths of the Ministry of Magic?
Fluder shook his head. "No, no need for that, Suzuki-dono. If you get me a dragon's heart, then I will gladly perform the ritual and tell you my price. I hope you have not taken too much offense to the trouble I have caused you."
"It was no trouble at all," Suzuki said, putting on a nervous smile. "Well then, shall we contact you once we have the necessary ingredients?"
"Yes," Fluder said and the two shook hands.
After his guests left, a knight came in to hand him a stack of documents for him to look through. He went through them casually until stumbling upon one from the legions- about a group of soldiers who had been accosted by a strange undead and saved by the magic caster Suzuki Satoru. The legions had written to him as they could not figure out the identity of the undead, and hoped that Fluder might know.
Fluder's hands shook as he finished reading. The monster- it's description matched that of a Death Knight.
He would definitely want to follow that person's journey with great care.
Since the two of them had to return to the Great Forest of Tob anyway, Suzuki took it as an opportunity to check up on Enri as well as the hideout he was making.
Enri came first- and when Suzuki had approached the village asking for her she ran up to him eagerly.
"Suzuki-sama! What brings you here?"
"Nothing, nothing, I just wanted to check up on how you were doing? Are the undead serving you well?" Suzuki asked.
The village had a noticeable change- there was a large wooden barrier blocking off half of it. Clearly it had been made by the zombie ogre that Suzuki had lent her- the ogre could easily pick up tree trunks, snap them, and then plant them deeply and firmly into the earth. Many trees were planted right next to each other to form a wall that was over ten feet high. It was clearly not finished yet, but the wall was a testament to how well his summons were serving the village.
"I was able to make this wall, and I don't have to do things like carry buckets of water anymore. The zombies can't do anything requiring too much thinking, but we could still use them to get work done. They can do the jobs of ten people easily!" Enri beamed, and Suzuki was pleased with the outcome. "But... there is one small issue..." Enri rubbed two fingers nervously- she looked like a schoolgirl who was afraid of getting a scolding.
"Oh? And what is that?" Suzuki asked.
"It isn't a big deal or anything!" Enri said, wildly flapping her hands. "But... when I tried to use them to hunt animals this one time, all that they hunted turned into zombies... and I could use them to farm and stuff... but we couldn't eat the meat..." She then hastily added: "But it isn't a big deal or anything, like I said! If we have them work the fields we can free up people who can go hunt instead, so they're still quite useful!" She apparently did not want Suzuki to think that she was ungrateful.
Suzuki scratched his chin. "I see, please wait a minute." He then teleported away along with Albedo, leaving Enri speechless as he popped back into existence five seconds later.
"This is... let's call him Thomas, an Elder Lich I made," Suzuki said, pointing to the undead he had brought along with him. "He can hunt for you, and what he kills will not transform into undead. Is that alright?"
"I am in your care," Thomas said and bowed his head lightly to Enri.
"Just one thing," Suzuki said. "Try to keep him out of the eyes of any others who might come by- if someone else sees a lich they might end up hiring mercenaries or adventurers to kill it. I think the document might convince them otherwise, but I can't be sure."
"A-Ah, I see, thank you Suzuki-sama," Enri said and bowed. It was an irregular, improper gesture, but the intent behind it was clear. "Just one last thing... the grain that we grow won't turn bad like the animals, will it? If we use zombies, I mean?"
"No," Suzuki said. He had tested this out himself- he had given a zombie a carrot and waited several hours- nothing happened to the carrot, as it would just like in Yggdrasil. Zombies did not affect plant life. To be doubly sure he had taken in a stray dog from E-Rantel and had his undead feed and take care of it- and the dog did not suffer any adverse effects.
"Alright, just some of the villagers were concerned about that, but when I told them that you had given the zombies to us, they didn't question it!" Enri said. "All of them knew that Suzuki-sama was too wise and generous to give us something that would hurt us!"
"E-Uh, is that so?" Suzuki asked, suddenly quite flustered by the remark. Words such as 'wise' shouldn't apply to someone like him, or at least, he thought so. That was something usually said while describing old people, right?
Albedo on the other hand, was pleased seeing that this lowly human had recognized her rightful place at Albedo's master's feet! Well, Enri wasn't literally kneeling at his feet, but she had clearly acknowledged the superiority of Suzuki Satoru as everyone in the world should! Of course, while rightful respect was only to be expected, if Enri's feelings for Suzuki turned into the kind that a woman would have for a man, Albedo would have crushed her without a second thought.
"Well, that is good. I just wanted to ask you, have you ever seen a dragon near here?"
"Dragons? No, I've heard stories that they live in the mountain ranges over there, but I've never seen one myself," Enri said. "Why?"
"No real reason, just checking," Suzuki said. "Well, if that's all, I'll leave you to your work. I need to get going now. Ah, and one last thing, Enri. Can you keep the fact that I can teleport a secret?" Enri nodded. Needless to say that if she did open up her mouth, Suzuki would know immediately because Thomas would Message him, and if Thomas was killed, Suzuki would also know immediately.
Suzuki grabbed Albedo and vanished off back to the headquarters they were building where he had been just a few minutes earlier to fetch Thomas.
Suzuki had earlier been worried about getting enough corpses without it hurting the Adventurer's Guild, but Albedo had a simple solution that Suzuki was surprised he hadn't seen earlier: they could transform the corpses of monster killed by other adventurers into undead.
As such, Suzuki would send out a Bone Vulture to scout the area around E-Rantel- when he was able to find goblin or other monster corpses, he would go there and use his summons for the day using them, occasionally creating zombies if he felt those were also needed.
As such, he now had over two hundred permanent summons working for him. He sent four Wraiths towards the direction of Carne- they would serve as extra lookouts and security for the village. They could hide easily within the shadows, and he doubted anyone within the village could detect their presence. They would serve as his own watchdogs over the village, not under the control of anyone else such as Enri.
"We have been able to complete the first floor," an Elder Lich told him. Suzuki and Albedo descended down the stairs. The area was lit up by magic, and Suzuki looked around.
The first and only floor for now was built like a maze- the first obstacle that any invading force would face while entering what he intended to make into a large dungeon. Right as Suzuki turned around the first corner, he saw the corridor that opened up to the side towards his left. Here, several Elder Liches could be stationed so that they could easily strike any unwitting invader with Fireball spells. Though Suzuki was not going there, he knew that at the center of the maze he would find an Elder Lich holding the Lamp of Darkness.
The place was carefully designed so that there were many more spots were ambushes could be planned and traps planted. It was nothing compared to even the most basic of guild bases in Yggdrasil, of course, but Suzuki had to make due with what he had.
As of now, nothing really important was stored in the place, so this was just a casual inspection. As he rounded a corner dog came bounding up to him.
Once Suzuki had been done experimenting on it, he had thought about what to do with the dog and eventually settled on keeping it as a pet. He had never been able to afford a real one back on Earth, so this was a nice change.
The dog's leash was held by an Elder Lich. Normally an animal such as a dog would never allow creatures such as undead to come near it- it would either bark loudly at them or cower in fear and run away. This Lich was using the spell Charm on it in order to ensure its compliance. Still, the dog seemed to prefer being near Suzuki rather than the lich.
Suzuki rubbed its ears and it made some adorable noises as he took out some meat he had brought to feed it. "Anything new regarding Pandora's Actor Jr.?" Suzuki had chosen to name his pet after his creation back in Yggdrasil.
"No, no problems in that regard, Master," Iguva, the Elder Lich he had appointed as the leader of the hideout he was making replied. "No problems otherwise."
"I see," Suzuki said. "Have our scouts reported any signs of a dragon nearby?"
Iguva paused before speaking. "A Bone Vulture reported a large lake to the northeast of this location. The other monsters in the area seem to avoid it, and reported seeing a scaly tail emerging from the water, but the Elder Lich sent to investigate couldn't be sure if it was a Sea Serpent or a Water Dragon."
They were keeping tabs on all the kinds of monsters in the surrounding areas. While Suzuki would have loved to eliminate them for XP, given that they were in relative close proximity to Carne, to avoid any unnecessary consequences that might end up hurting the villagers he avoided the temptation. Also, since the incident with the demon tree, he was a bit hesitant to attack wild monsters without assessing their strength first. There were also nearby lizardmen and toadmen villages, and Suzuki was a bit fascinated when he had heard about them, but for now he didn't see any reason to engage with them. He had bigger issues on hand.
"Alright then," Suzuki said. "Albedo, let's go!"
The forest near the lake was quiet- a bit too quiet. It was said that a forest would only become when a strong predator was nearby- so perhaps the inhabitants had long since learned to avoid this area.
The lake was massive- probably the biggest Suzuki had seen since he had come to this world. The surface was unbroken and as smooth as glass- it reminded him of the giant crystal lakes one could find in Yggdrasil that existed underground. One such lake had led to a large city inhabited by undead.
Like almost all video games, Yggdrasil had underwater sections. And like in almost all video games, these were nearly universally hated by the player base. Being underwater dealt all kind of movement penalties which greatly annoyed people in general. There was no real way to avoid these things aside from choosing a build that was specialized for aquatic environments, and that would leave you weak if you fought outside the water. As Warrior Takemikazuchi once said, "No one likes underwater areas. Do you know who liked underwater areas? Hitler. You are literally Hitler if you think that underwater areas are any good."
Suzuki would've normally just used the super tier magic Creation to dry up the lake or possibly freeze it. Given he couldn't do that, and neither he nor Albedo wanted to wade into the water, he decided on another path of attack.
"Summon Undead 8th!" he said, summoning a Spectral Megalodon.
The Spectral Megalodon was an extremely large shark which gave off an eerie green glow. Its scales were as black as the night and it had glowing crimson eyes. A shark was definitely a terrifying creature, but this thing took it to another level.
It was capable of levitating in the air but it suffered several penalties when it was not underwater, weakening the level fifty-two creature so that it was about as strong as a level forty monster while on land. On the other hand, while in the water, it would be about as powerful as a level sixty monster.
The colossal shark descended into the water. Some monsters would also gain penalties or bonuses for being in freshwater or seawater respectively, but these things did not apply to the Spectral Megalodon.
"Undeath Slave Sight!" Suzuki said. The fourth tier spell was similar to the racial skill Suzuki had when he was Momonga. In the game, a small window would appear on the screen, but in this world, it was as if Suzuki had suddenly grown two new pairs of eyes.
The first time he had tried to use this spell, he had ended up vomiting due to motion sickness. His brain had been unable to process the extra visual information being sent to it from an extra pair of eyes, and as such, Suzuki realized the best way to use this spell was to close his real eyes and focus on the other ones.
The spell let Suzuki see out of the eyes of one of his summons, allowing any of them to function as a camera. He could use it with a summon such as a Bone Vulture and turn it into the equivalent of a remote controlled drone. It would make those who thought of birds as government drones back in the real world sort of correct if they suspected a Bone Vulture of being one.
The Spectral Megalodon was able to see through the water as easily as Suzuki could through air, even in the murkiest of waters or the darkest of depths. Suzuki saw several fish which fled on instinct as soon as it approached them. Suzuki even saw some mermen and mermaids, as well as giant squids (or at least, giant compared to those of Suzuki's world, they were miniscule compared to the Spectral Megalodon), and some underwater creatures that he didn't even recognize.
The Spectral Megalodon had a form of sonar that it could use while underwater. Suzuki only had access to its vision, but the summon had enough autonomy that it would use this ability to try and locate the dragon by its own accord. Suzuki held his breath in excitement as it came upon a large creature that was no doubt a Water Dragon.
Water dragons were close relatives of sea dragons, and both of them looked rather similar to sea serpents. However, dragons were far more colorful in their design, and also had a pair of wings even if they lived underwater. If they were high leveled enough, they could also leave the water and fly in the heavens above, but they would be weaker outside the water.
This brightly colored red and green scaled monster with a large pair of wings was no doubt a Sea Dragon. It was longer than even the Giant Megalodon in size, though not as wide, and upon spotting Suzuki's summon it rushed towards it rather than fleeing away.
Was it that confident in its ability to win? Or as the biggest fish in this pond, did it feel like it had to defend its territory? Or was it that it simply had never fought a foe that could rival it? If the worst happened and Suzuki couldn't win, he would try to drag the dragon out of the water where it would be weaker and try to finish it off there.
The Water Dragon used an attack that shot a large stream of pressure at the Spectral Megalodon, but Suzuki's summon tanked the attack and responded by sending a large wave of negative energy at the Water Dragon. The surrounding fish which were caught in the crossfire died immediately, but the Water Dragon was able to withstand it.
The two of them collided, and the Water Dragon seemed to shriek in pain as it opened its mouth, a sound that Suzuki couldn't hear. The Spectral Megalodon's scales were capable of dealing damage on contact- but the Water Dragon could probably negate this damage thanks to its own scales. What it couldn't block was the negative energy the Spectral Megalodon could release on contact as long as it was underwater. Not only that, but the Water Dragon would also be dealt several negative status effects on contact with the Spectral Megalodon as well.
The Water Dragon lashed out at the Spectral Megalodon, but the attack seemed to hurt it as much as it hurt the Megalodon as it withdrew its tail which leaked blood into the water, a result of it hurting its less well armored tail on the Megalodon's scales.
This activated another skill of the Spectral Megalodon, which was called Scent of Blood. This also could only be activated underwater, but they way it worked was that when damage was dealt underwater to a creature, it would boost the attack of the shark. It was thanks to many of these abilities that could be activated only underwater that it was considered to be a monster a tier higher than that of what it actually was so long as it fought underwater.
The Sea Dragon thrashed as the Giant Megalodon sunk its teeth into its flesh- the blood that leaked out only fed the shark's frenzy even more.
Within the span of a minute, the Water Dragon had been torn to shreds, and the Giant Megalodon emerged from the surface of the lake holding the remnants of its corpse in its jaws.
Based on the amount of XP he gained, that dragon had to have been about level thirty. Suzuki was close to leveling up, but he was more interested in the corpse of the Water Dragon at the moment rather than that at the moment.
The heart was bigger than he was and he wondered whether or not this would work for what Fluder was planning. It was definitely a dragon of course, so there was no reason that it shouldn't.
Suzuki was also a bit interested in harvesting the monster's skin- maybe he could create higher tier spell scrolls using dragon skin? Scrolls in this world only went up to the third tier and burnt if you tried to store a higher tier of spell in them. But, in Yggdrasil, one could create scrolls that could hold tenth tier spells on certain kinds of dragon's skin, so perhaps he could make higher tier spells using this Water Dragon's skin? Not only that, but he could probably sell the teeth and claws as well for a high price.
It was the duty for the hunter to use the hunted prey as efficiently as possible, after all.
"We should station a few Elder Liches here, to see if getting rid of the dragon has any adverse effects on the lake," Suzuki said. It was possible that by killing an apex predator they had upset the natural balance of the lake. For example, if the dragon kept the numbers of merpeople in the lake in check, its absence would lead to them proliferating in great numbers and maybe fighting amongst themselves, and eventually taking their fight to land. Suzuki would have to intervene if something like that happened.
A/N: Before anyone says that Fluder acted out of character here, I would disagree. When it came to someone who was just an 8th tier caster he felt jealousy, namely, when he saw Narberal. Also, he was kind of angry here because he though Suzuki was telling him bold-faced lies.
Also, I found it odd that Overlord never mentioned any underwater areas, I must assume they existed in the game, but we never hear of any underwater kingdoms in the series, at least not that I remember, and I thought this was a nice time to write in an underwater adventure, as well as another summon of Suzuki's that's different than the others.
Thanks for reading- I think I'll do one more chapter before moving back to Nazarick In the Real World.
