Chapter 12
Harry and the unconcious Katherine arrived outside of Vienna, Austria in a completely desolate forrest clearing Harry remembered from his previous trip to the country when he was fleeing England. It was the closest place that he knew of to portkey to that also wasn't heavily popullated and left them near enough to Italy and his supposed destination. He decided to stun her her again and bind her up in a nearby tree before making sure his tracking charms on her were still working and then disillusioned her as well.
Harry then apparated to the magical district in Vienna where his first stop was Gringotts to exchange some of his still pretty numerous galleons for the local currency both magical and muggle. He also sought information on the well known Italian Vampire Coven, and was given directions to Volterra, their base city before thanking the goblins and then walking around the magical shopping district. He found a tailor and got measured for another set of dragonhide clothes while he was in the magical world since he wore his original set all the time and just loved it.
Harry paid a little extra so the tailor would finish his clothes by the next day, and then returned to the muggle world and caught a train that was heading to Rome and stopping on the way in Volterra. A few hours later he was getting off the train in the old and very beautiful city, and spent a few hours searching the semi-large city for any sign of vampires. As night approached he came upon a large ancient building that had the feel of a great many vampires inside and was happy he found the destination he was looking for so quickly.
He realized that the building had daily tours, so he decided to get a hotel room for the night and come back the following day to explore it more as opposed to just charging into the unknown and most likely unfriendly territory. Once he was set up in the hotel room, he put up silencing spells and apparated to the forrest in Austria to collect a recently woken up but still bound Katherine from where he left her. He stunned her again before grabbing her and dual apparating them both back into his hotel room where he reapplied her magical binds and settled down for some sleep in preperation for what he expected to be a busy day ahead.
Harry woke up late the next day to the growling of a struggling Katherine as she tried to fight her way out of the magical restraints that still binded her. He hit her with another stunning spell and again reapplied her restraints before showering and getting dressed back in his favorite dragonhide outfit which was pretty much the only thing he wore out of school now. He then left the hotel room after magically locking the door and casting a notice me not spell on the door to avoid housekeepers coming to clean and went to the lobby for a light brunch somewhat excited about what the day would bring.
It was just short of high noon when Harry fought his way through an enormous crowd of parade goers to reach the old building used to house the vampire coven he had come to Italy for. He was startled though by a tall good looking vampire standing inside the narrow alley way just beside the door that bore a striking similarity to the deceased Cedric Diggory that appeared moments away from stepping out into the bright sun. He felt a little bit different then the vampires he was getting used to in Mystic Falls, seemingly having a greater feeling of magic to him and didn't appear to have any jewelry like the Slavatore's that would protect him from the harsh sunlight.
Before Harry could react out of his startled silence, he felt another simlarly strong magical vampire approaching from behind him and moved to the side so he could see their approach and keep an eye on the Cedric look a like. He saw the approaching vampire heavily scarfed and covered following a completely frantic pale teenage girl that ran directly at the male vampire in the alleyway just as he was preparing to step out into the sun. Harry was curious as the young looking male vampire's intense golden eyes shot up to see the approaching girl and widened dramatically as she threw herself at him practically crying her eyes out.
Harry suddenly felt like an intruder on the couple's very intimate moment, and ignored his curiosity at what they saying to one another to look and study the still approaching scarfed vampire. He could easily tell she was female by her outfit and size despite not having any skin showing, and was surprised by just how tiny she seemed. The dark sunglasses covering her eyes were suddenly meeting Harry's own curious green ones, and her head tilted as she studied him from behind the glasses for several long moments.
Harry realized that the couple had moved further into the alleyway near the door when he felt two more magical vampires approaching them from inside the building and had to wonder what was going on. The small female vampire near him gave him one final glance before going into the alleyway after the others and Harry could hardly keep his curiosity to himself. He quickly cast his scent masking charms, a silencing charm, a disillusionment charm, and brought up his Occlumency barriers to full before creeping slowly into the alleyway to see for himself what was going on.
The Cedric look a like was standing aggresively and protectively in front of his mortal girlfriend with the short scarfed vampire next to him, facing off against two heavily cloaked male vampires one of which was exceedingly tall and thick. He must have already missed the words they exchanged as the vampires all faced off against each other seemingly ready to fight before he felt another powerful vampire approach from the same place inside the building. The new vampire was also cloaked like the other two, and caused them to relax slightly now that they had the greater numbers even if she was about the same size as the small scarfed vampire who had tensed significantly along with the Cedric look a like at her arrival.
"Jane," sighed Cedric's double as he too relaxed his stance in seeming defeat.
"Follow me," spoke the short cloaked female vampire Harry now knew as Jane, and watched as Cedric's clone, the pale mortal girlfriend, and the short scarfed female followed her deeper into the alley while the other two cloaked figures took up following as well.
Harry followed at a safe distance until they all disappeared down a manhole into the sewers, the largest of the cloaked men closing it behind him. Harry didn't dare go in after them not being able to hide opening back up the manhole cover without being discovered, and instead looked up at the building next to him that he knew housed the vampires. He saw few if any windows, and most were mere slits in the stone which would be hard to fit through but his curiosity got the better of him, causing him to open and dig through his trunk looking for his Firebolt to fly up and search for another way in after disillusioning the broom as well.
The thin window slits on the top of a high circular tower were all he could find to get inside the large stone building, and he used his broom to maneuver and float next to them trying to see where inside they led. The slit windows were quite high, looking down on a large cavernous circular stone chamber, and Harry could instantly feel the presence of over a dozen vampires below him. He waited for several minutes until a few more figures began entering the large chamber, and used everyone's distracted attention on the newcomers to silently apparate inside the high ceilinged room still floating on his trusty broom above them.
Harry watched as a very old and powerful vampire greeted Jane happily, and then cringed when she called him 'Master' not liking the situation he found himself in at all. The Master then greeted Isabella and Alice, the two women who came for the Cedric clone, and sent Felix the large cloaked vampire from the alley to fetch his two brothers before turning and talking to the Cedric clone named Edward. He learned that the small scarfed female from earlier was Edward's coven sister Alice who had some special ability the Master favored, and that Edward and the Master Aro could both read minds though Aro's ability required physical contact.
Harry was thanking his lucky stars to have his Occlumency shields up full now, and watched as the large Felix returned with two other old and similarly dressed vampires that greeted Aro only, and were greeted in return as Marcus and Caius who all appeared to be the leaders of this particular coven based on the throne like chairs they all moved to. Harry watched as Aro and Edward spoke for a bit lightly, although it was plain to see Edward's discomfort and unease with the whole thing as the human girl Bella clung to him tightly, her fear palpable. Harry was more surprised by Edward's and Alice's golden eyes now that he could see them all properly since every other vampire in the room had glowing red eyes that strongly reminded him of Voldemort.
Aro then tried to get a read on Bella's thoughts and was happily surprised that she was blocked from him the same as she was from Edward, before asking if she was susceptible to Jane's powers as well, which terrifed Edward even more than he was. After watching Edward collapse in agony quite similar to the cruciatus curse, he instantly understood everyone's fearful respocet of the short maroon cloaked girl known as Jane and glad that her powers failed to affect Bella like the others. Aro seemed more amused about the whole thing while still having a greedy look to his eyes that didn't bode well for anybody, and asked Edward, Bella, and Alice if they would join his unusual family which they all quickly declined.
They then argued over Bella as a human knowing too much about them not to be killed or turned, and claimed they would let them go if they truly intended to make her one of them, which Alice must have provided by Alice letting Aro read her thoughts of the future. Harry flinched when he realized Alice was most likely a Seer, not having much faith or luck with the sketchy discipline, but was happy the threesome was being let go even if the others planned on keeping an eye on them. He watched as they left, and was going to reveal himself for more answers and to ask about placing Katherine with them, when he noticed several human tourists being led into the stone chamber and the very hungry looks of the still present dozen plus red eyed vampires.
"Shit," cursed Harry silently as he poured magic into his body increasing his already heightened strength, speed, and senses while shrinking his broom, dropping to the ground while letting his disillusionment charm fall as he landed on the floor with his sword drawn and ready for battle.
Before anyone even knew he was there among the many vampires getting ready to feed, he struck and decapited the large vampire he learned was Felix as well as another he didn't know with long blonde hair that resemble Lucius Malfoy. He ignored the energy of the two quickenings that flooded him and lashed out at a third vampire nearby with short curly reddish brown hair separating another head as he prepared for even more. A loud shout to stop came from one of the three coven leaders as all the vampires suddenly stopped with some difficulty and came out of their blood lust as only a small handful of the tourists remained still alive and screaming in terror.
"How dare you," came a growl from the aged Marcus as he glared at the unknown person weilding a sword and killing members of his coven, bringing the attention of all the present vampires to Harry and the three headless vampire corpses at his feet. "Who are you?"
"Why don't you come here and find out," spoke Harry coldly as the vampires now stood protectively in front of the three elders acting as guards and growling at the man who killed three of their number with seemingly little effort.
"Jane ...bring him to his knees," growled Marcus fiercely as Harry felt a pressure trying to attack his mind that he ignored and smirked at the wide eyed looks the two dozen remaining vampires had on their shocked faces.
In retaliation, Harry grabbed onto Jane's mind probe and with Legillimancy sent it back to her twice as strong, instantly dropping her to the ground with painful screams as she clutched her head and continued to wail and thrash. Two of the guards immediately charged him with inhuman speed, but he spun away from one and brought his sword in a lightning fast sweep clean through the other one's neck killing him instantly. The first attacker then spun towards him with a punch that Harry blocked with his off arm and followed with another sweep of his sword decapitating him in the blink of an eye.
"What are you?" growled Marcus, now much more cautious and unsure of himself as the rest of the vampires seemed to tense and get ready to fight except Jane who was still on the ground trying to recover, and another vampire that could only be her brother next to her trying to help.
"What do you want?" asked Aro when moments passed and the stranger with the sword made no move to answer his brother.
"I came to bring you a vampire that needed relocating ...but now I'm not too sure that's a good idea ...you waste food and kill unnecessarily," spoke Harry flatly as he glared back at the glowing red eyes of what he came to realize where magical vampires unlike the regular kind in Mystic Falls. "If you had any control, a single human could feed you each for years ...not to mention blood banks."
"Who are you to tell us what to do?" snapped Marcus threateningly, as several of the guards took a step towards Harry hoping to overwhelm him or scare him.
Harry smirked at the guards as they continued to come closer trying to trap him into a corner and leaving the three leaders of the group unprotected before he made his move. He apparated silently, swung his sword twice decapitating two random vampires, and then apparated again just behind the three leaders and banished Aro and Caius forward into the backs of the guards before petrifying Marcus and bringing his sword against his throat and holding it there threateningly. As the confused group of vampires quickly got back to their feet, Harry called to them making them all turn around and gasp in surprise and fear as they saw the sword he had to Marcus' exposed neck and him unable to move from the stranger's grasp.
"Are you ready to negotiate now?" asked Harry in a hard voice.
"First tell us your name, wizard," growled Caius angrily.
"So you do know what I am?" smirked Harry.
"It has been a few years since we last spoke with one of your kind ...trying to get us to join your Dark Lord," he replied coldly.
"Voldemort wasn't my Dark Lord ...it's been almost two years since I killed him," answered Harry calmly, and getting the two leaders facing him to widen their eyes in shock and a bit of fear.
"Harry Potter," whispered Aro in fear, and causing said wizrd to smirk in satisfaction.
"My reputation proceeds me ...you are well informed Aro," replied Harry in some amusement, "the female vampire I brought for relocation is not of the magical variety, but possesses a magical item that protects her from the sun ...she could be valuable to you."
"If we accept her ...will you leave us alone and alive?" he asked slowly.
"She is the sire of a friend of mine ...if you accept and protect her, I will not return and leave you in peace," spoke Harry easily, deciding to just get this over with regardless of how he felt about the Volturi.
"You have a deal," Aro replied quickly, both in resignation and a bit of curiosity at the mentioned magical item.
Harry nodded and took a step back away from Marcus before disapparating with an almost silent pop from the Volturi home base, leaving behind several upset vampires and a relieved group of coven leaders. He reappeared in his hotel room and grabbed the still bound and unconcious Katherine before apparating back to the stone chamber room he just left to find Marcus surrounded by his guards and brothers as he was still coming to from the whole ordeal. He ennervated Katherine whose instant growls and struggling alerted all the others of their return, as Harry told the pissed off woman that she was staying with the Volturi here in Italy who had sworn to accept and protect her.
Harry nodded to Aro, and told him he was taking the surviving five humans huddled terrified against the wall away from the vampires who had seemingly forgotten about them in the confusion of his arrival. When they argued that the humans knew too much, Harry promised he would erase their memories of today and return them to the festival going on in the city unless they wanted to take their chances and fight him. They reluctantly let him go, and Harry told the five mortals to proceed him so he could get them out of here alive, which they all scrambled to obey while still whimpering in total fear.
When they got into the elevator to go down to the main floor, Harry obliviated them of the tragic last few minutes and led them through the lobby and to the old stone building's large front door passing Edward, Alice, and Bella who were watching him with wide disbelieving eyes. Once the humans were gone, Harry turned to the unusual trio and asked them why they were still here, discovering that they were waiting for the sun to go down so they could leave. One of the Volturi guards that originally picked the trio up earlier soon joined them in the lobby and told them they were free to leave while glaring at Harry both hatefully and fearfully while he smirked back.
Edward looked at the guard he called Dimitri for a moment, and then turned startled eyes towards Harry obviously having read the guard's thoughts about the mysterious guest before they left the building along with the wizard that killed several Volturi members according to Dimitri's memory. Harry asked him about his and Alice's golden eyes, and smiled warmly when he learned that they only drank animal blood before asking where they lived. Edward was reluctant to tell the obviously powerful wizard too much, but Alice quickly explained that they lived in Forks, Washington apparently not at all worried about the unusual man with the intense and powerful green eyes.
"Where do you live?" asked Alice curiously to the messy black haired young man whose age was hard to tell with the spekling of gray in his hair and the wisdom and maturity in his eyes and face.
"I've been moving around a lot lately ...but at the moment I'm in Mystic Falls, Virginia," replied Harry with an honest smile to the inquisitive small and very attractive girl. "If you want, I can give you all a lift home ...I just need to make a quick stop to pick up some clothes I ordered."
"Clothes?" asked an excited and wide eyed Alice as the other two groaned.
"Another set of what I am already wearing," answered a smiling Harry, making them all take a closer look at what they thought was black leather but now weren't too sure, "...dragonhide."
"Dragonhide?" squeked Bella with wide scared eyes.
Harry smiled again at their reactions and invited them to tag along on his errand to Vienna's magical shopping district, promsing he would keep them safe and get them home in no time. After making sure they were all alone, he had them all grab his arms and apparated the group to a hidden alley in Vienna near the magical area causing them all to gasp and sputter in amazement. All three of them had wide eyes on swiveling heads as they entered the magical alley taking in as much as they could and hardly believing what they saw as he led them to the tailors to pick up his outfit.
Alice absolutely loved all of the unusual and different fabrics on display as he gathered his clothes, and Harry told her to pick out something if she liked it and laughed as she immediately came back with three acromantulan silk cloaks for herself, Rosalie her sister, and Esme her mother figure. After buying the clothes, Harry saw Edward eyeing a bookshop and said they could stop to pick something out for themselves which really excited both him and Bella. The found a section of books in English, and Bella purchased one on magical creatures while Edward got one on Wizarding History. He asked them about the rest of their family and what they might like, and stopped in a second hand odds and ends shop to look for gifts, getting Jasper and Emmett dragonhide boots and Carlisle a journal that never ran out of pages.
They tried to tell Harry that they could pay him back, but he refused saying he had more money than he could spend in fifty lifetimes and instead settled for an open invitation to visit them if he ever wanted. He had Bella picture the Cullen property in Forks since he couldn't use Legillimancy on vampires very well, and then created another illegal international portkey that would take them all there and had them promise to hold on. With a smile and wink to all of their excited faces, he tapped the rope with his wand and the group disappeared with a hooking feeling at their navals only to arrive moments later next to the Cullen's house in Forks.
Bella was a bit nautious upon arrival, but they were all blown away by the fast trip to the other side of the world and thanked Harry immensely for all his help and what he showed them. Harry simply grinned and exchanged cell phones numbers with all of them before saying goodbye and that he hoped to see them again soon. Alice even gave him a hug and kiss on the cheek before he disapparated on the spot to return to Mystic Falls and let his friends know how the trip to drop off Katherine went, of course leaving out a lot of the specific details.
