A.N. The awaited arrival of the sequel to "Britannia Rising" is here!
Some quick reminders that this is a Mass Effect/Code Geass crossover, therefore some characters may not show up and or be replaced by others. Characters in the description likewise may change over time.
As well some side stories from the Mass Effect universe may or may not appear depending on how things go while writing this.
The calendars here are offset 2356 a.t.b. is 2156 for the Council Races
Also this is my fanfiction and I will write it how I wish it to be. If you do not like the story or its premise you do not have to read it.
For this story I have decided to go in a different direction than the other Mass Effect Crossovers, you'll find out by the end of this chapter.
I also am intending to break the trend of Code Geass/Mass Effect crossovers dying off and being left unfinished.
The title of this is based on the song by Sabaton "Resist and Bite."
I do not own that song nor do I own Code Geass or Mass Effect. This story is to pay homage to two extremely great and well written stories, and is not intended to be anything other than this.
Thank you.
Enjoy the story.
Chapter 1
Summary of the Age of Revolution From T.S.I History Text
It is easy to see that during the Age of Revolution that preceded Humanity's expansion under the Imperium was one of the bloodiest to date. For it was during this relative short period that a number of major wars were fought and eventually lead to the Great Global War that birthed the Terran Star Imperium. To the point many historians point to the Second Pacific War as the catalyst for the Age of Revolution, for it was during this war that set Lelouch vi Britannia upon his road to power.
The true blood shed began when Lelouch vi Britannia discovered the power of Geass and set about rebelling against the Holy Britannian Empire. This in turn destabilized the power balance of the world and led to conflicts across the globe. It also, pushed the Emperor Charles zi Britannia into enacting his plan to enslave the very minds of humanity for all eternity. The intricacies of this story are well known as is the resultant end of the conflict between Lelouch and his father. This did, however, lead to events that gave the throne of the Britannian Empire to Lelouch himself and precipitated his ascendance to immortality.
The Great Global War brought this age to a close and became the catalyst for humanity's expansion into the stars. Millions died in the conflict that saw cities across the world turned to ash and bodies piled high in camps run by the regimes in Asia and Europe. It was after this that world came under the banner of the Terran Star Imperium and the newly elected Emperor Lelouch vi Zero led the population into exploring the stars.
During that time, as is well recorded, the technological level of humanity flew as high as the exploration ships. Humanity learned ways to extend life beyond what it had been and how to travel faster that light and colonize planets while making them hospitable like the Terra itself. The growth of the Imperium even led to the finding of the long-lost Damocles battle platform and the criminals that resided therein. With this find the injustice of that long-ago age was finally rectified and put to its final rest.
Imperial Palace, Terra-2356 a.t.b.
To say that Terra had grown since the formation of the Terran Star Imperium would be a rather large understatement. Over the course of the years the rule of Imperium had seen the growth of humanity from a single world species to vast empire amongst the stars. The medical technology had also extended the lifespan of the normal human to far from what it had been. This had combined with other factors, namely large areas for expansion, had led to a population boom. From the Imperial Palace Lelouch vi Zero watched his people grow into a teaming population of advanced humans.
Standing on one of the many balconies in the palace Lelouch looked out over Tokyo, the Terran city that held the Imperial Palace. From his position he could watch the goings on in the city, ground vehicles traversed the city streets while FLOAT vehicles passed through the skylines of the city. All the while Imperial Zero Guard and supervised the traffic as the Guard controlled the policing of the capital city as well as had a hand in the policing of the entire star system.
It can also be said that since Terra was the capital of the Imperium it now sported a great amount of defensive measures. It boasted a powerful in system defense fleet as well as battle platforms in orbit around each major planet of the system. Each inhabited world had defense towers and garrisons that could be brought to immediate notice for action, including powerful shields that could be raised to block incoming attacks. Not to mention the capitol system could call upon any of the Imperium's fleets for aid should it be needed. And of course, the Emperor's Guard had a hand in making sure that the System's defenses and law enforcement met to the highest standards; all for the protection of the Emperor.
Lelouch was broken out of his thoughts as the voice of his Empress came from behind him, "contemplating the universe again I see."
Smirking Lelouch responded, "as an Emperor I think it would be odd if I didn't contemplate the universe from time to time between running the state."
"True," giggled Cenceniah. "And yet between your contemplations and running the Empire you still find time for little ole me. I think that makes you one of the best rulers I have since come across."
Turning and snaking his arms around his wife's waist Lelouch continued his smirk, "I think you're just saying that because you have access to a near unlimited supply of pizza since you married me."
"Well," Ceceniah mocked contemplated. "It's a big plus for certain."
The imperial couple laughed before their lips found each other's and a passionate loving kiss was shared between them. The pair eventually separated and Lelouch smiled, "I get the feeling that despite how it may seem you aren't here just to spend time with me."
Ceceniah nodded, "yes I'm afraid you're right. Tianzi is here to see you."
Lelouch nodded, "ah yes I understand. I better go take of this."
"Pity," Cenciah muttered. "It was just getting good."
Lelouch laughed, "well maybe later we can pick this up again."
"I'll hold you to that."
The pair separated and Lelouch moved back into the palace and walked briskly to his office. When he exited his private chambers and pair of Guards fell into lock step with him and followed him to his office. Upon entering his office, the pair of masked guards took position by the door as their Emperor moved towards the other figure in the room.
Taking her hand Lelouch leaned down and kissed it, "its good to see you Lihua. How can I help you?"
The former Tianzi smiled back, "it's good to see you too Lelouch. It's nothing much but I have the cumulative financial figures of the Eastern Expanse Systems you wanted, I figured you'd want me to deliver them personally."
Lelouch smiled at the Interior Minister and replied, "of course Lihua, thank you for delivering them."
Lelouch took the file from her hands, despite being and advanced species having a physical file had its advantages over a completely digital one. Lelouch quickly thumbed through the file and removed the digital drive that had the data copies of the physical files. He inserted the drive into his desks computer and made sure the information was downloaded to his and the palace's secure servers.
The Eastern Expanse Systems were a group of star systems that made up a small chunk of space located, as the name suggests, in the Galactic East of the Imperium. The group of systems weren't really much to gawk at, they were a collection of mining colonies with a few terra-formed worlds that held factories and farmland. The credit to these systems was that the resources mined supplied the shipyards of a number of big-name ship manufacturers; including some Black Knight construction and repair yards.
In recent years, the revenue numbers did not quite match what the projections usually showed. It is true that this sort of thing happened, projections weren't perfect, but the sheer size of the difference and the continued pattern of this had razed a few eyebrows. This led to a small "revue" of the figures submitted to the Imperial government and led to the current meeting.
Lihua then spoke up saying, "I do want to point out that I enclosed a sub file list of those positions that were, shall we say, less than cordial or willing to give their figures quickly."
Lelouch nodded quickly tapping a few keys to pull up the list, "corruption do you think?"
"Most likely," replied the Interior Minister. "I've already sent a report through to have the list investigated so there should be some preliminary answers in a few days. And proper arrests following that."
Lelouch nodded, "good, very good. I look forward to how this turns out."
Lihua nodded in return, "I shall keep you posted on the developments."
"Thank you," Lelouch said as he stood. Lihua did the same and bowed before turning and leaving, Lelouch quickly scanned the information he had been given before locking the file away. He then left his office, his guards once more following him, and walked back to the upper levels of the Palace.
Lelouch made his way up to one of the rooftop gardens of the Palace emerging into the sunlight of the day. Looking around he saw Nunnally down amongst the flowers, Lelouch smiled and walked over. As he drew nearer, he saw Nunnally using her Omni-tool to prune several of the flowers.
After snipping away several wilted flowers Nunnally looked up at her approaching brother and smiled, "good afternoon big brother."
Lelouch smiled in return, "same to you Nunnally. Your flowers are looking as lovely as you, like always."
Nunnally giggled, "its hard to believe you were once so ignorant of how to talk to girls."
"Well, practice makes perfect," Lelouch reached out and hugged his sister.
"Of course," Nunnally hugged back. "A couple hundred years of practice of course."
The siblings burst into a fit of laughter, ever since her reappearance, and the trial Nunnally had slowly begun to open back up to Lelouch and vice versa. However, this is not to say their relationship was anything like what it had once been. With her being taken under the care of the Imperial family and had been given treatments that had led to her regaining the use of her legs. As well, since she had been residence in the Palace she and Lelouch had the time to reconnect. But the old wounds of the past had taken time to scar over, and never fully healed. Lelouch loved his sister and would protect her with his life, but he no longer felt the need to baby her or allow her to run his life and actions anymore.
The plus side to this allowed Nunnally to grow, and she had indeed, over time she had been given more and more independence. She could now go on small trips outside the Palace so long as she was under escort. She was even given responsibilities within the Palace itself; they were by no means state important responsibilities but were none the less enough to spur her into maturity. Gardening for one such item under Nunnally's care, she also had a hand in the general cleanliness of the Palace as well as a voice in decoration and the running of the kitchens.
Nunnally broke the hug, "I did order some new roses for Ceceniah though, they are the new green ones."
"I'm sure she'll love them," Lelouch replied.
Nunnally giggled again, "I know, that's why I got them."
"Tea is served," came the voice of Sayoko. The cyborg maid appeared before the two, over the years she had had upgrades done to her physical body. More organic parts had been cloned from her original body and she no longer had to rely on living inside a computer terminal. Now she was more like Jeremiah than the complete robot she had been before, which had been slowly causing her mental distress. Simply put humans were not meant to exist inside a computer and thus being trapped in a computer terminal for extended periods ultimately led to mental instability. Sayoko's upgraded body stemmed her degradation and she now functioned better than before.
"Thank you, Sayoko," Nunnally said. The two siblings then sat at one of the tables in the garden and sipped at their tea and held conversation. This went on till the form of Ceceniah appeared in the garden, her approach was met with smiles and she took a seat at the table.
"Glad you could join us sister," Nunnally said as she poured the new arrival some tea.
"The promise of your tea and the site of your beautiful flowers was a good incentive," the green haired empress smiled.
"And the ability to spend time with me I hope," Lelouch added.
"To an extent yes," Ceceniah nodded. "But you still have your promise to keep later."
Nunnally rolled her eyes and pointed her finger at the pair, "now none of that right now. Save that for when I'm not around. Otherwise I might start missing the days when I was blind."
The three burst out into laughter as the flowers and leaves gently swayed in the light breeze of the sunny day.
Arcturus System
The Arcturus system was not much in terms of population, the planets that inhabited the system were not suitable for terra forming. There were small floating platforms in orbit around some of the planets, the platforms being something like small cities and therein processed different gasses and minerals that were harvested in the system. Mostly however, the system plaid host to Arcturus Station, which functioned as a massive Imperial port.
The port had a number of functions, it acted as a transportation hub for civilian craft and trade, which helped grow some of the orbital Hab-platforms. As well, the stations served the Black Knight fleets that patrolled the neighboring Imperial regions; and was currently played host to 1st Fleet's Command Squadron. The Everest-class Battleship Crusader floated alongside the main Arcturus station. The flagship of Cordus Marshall G. P. Guilford the battleship boasted the Black and Silver livery of the Black Knights as well as the stylized Golden Sword sigil of the 1st Terran Star Fleet.
The Everest-Class itself in the time between the finding of the Damocles and the current era had seen the class be modified and updated. The basic frame and design of the ship was sound enough, but the development of newer technology allowed for the 900-meter-long ship to be made more efficient and deadly than before. Nina Einstein's return to the Imperium, for example, had opened the door to developing more efficient power generators. Other developments in technology allowed the old ship design to stay in service, though it was true that the current Crusader used by Guilford was not the same he had first taken as his flagship; that particular ship was decommissioned and its parts recycled.
Guilford currently sat in his Marshal's chair on the bridge of the Crusader, holo-panels were displayed before him showing the movements of 1st Fleet. Different Squadrons and Flotillas moving through the different systems on their patrols as well as registered civilian traffic. His panels also showed the ships of the positions of "Black Ships," these were the Black Knight vessels that worked in conjunction with the Justice Ministry. They hunted smugglers, pirates, and other void bound criminals, as well as used as transports for the Justice ministry.
Guilford gave the Black Ships only a glance and acknowledged them and that their destination was the Eastern Expanse then turned back to the rest of his fleet. After a few more minutes of observation Guilford switched over to the supply manifests of his Squadron and Fleet. He compared the basic numbers and statics for the supply situation before nodding to himself grunting at what he saw before closing the screen.
An approaching figure drew Guilford's attention away from his screens, Cornelia Stuart, formerly li Britannia, came to stand next to him. She wore the uniform of a captain, the deep black and silver lined uniform had silver epaulettes with red lined bars to signify her rank. The former royal had started out her penal military service as Guilford's aide de camp but had ultimately succeeded in passing the test to be made captain of the Crusader when her previous captain retired.
The crew had started out with a rather dubious attitude that the former princess, and commander of their Cordus Marshal, was made captain of their vessel. This issue however was quickly quashed when Cornelia had shown the Iron discipline that had made her old army one of the best fielded by Britannia. In time the crew grew to respect the former royal despite past grievances and issues.
Cornelia nodded to Guilford, "the Star Bounty and Blair have just warped in and are making their way to the dry dock."
Guilford nodded, "very well, remind the yard manager I want his repair report as soon as he finishes compiling it."
"Yes sir," Cornelia saluted and turned and walked away. The discipline that she enforced upon the crew of the Crusader applied to her as well, she had realized this early on before she took over as captain. When her new command had been confirmed she quickly worked to separate her personal life and feelings for Guilford and her duties as captain, as well as, her sentence in the Black Knights.
Guilford quickly keyed in a few commands and one of the ship's external cameras switched on to show the Geneva-class cruiser Star Bounty and the Broad Sword-class destroyer Blair floating towards the repair docks. A large black gash could be seen on her side wear Blair's prow had impacted the hull. The report had said that Blair had a malfunction in her navigation systems and had twisted the ship into the Star Bounty. The new destroyer had to cut her first patrol short as a result.
'Must not have worked out all the bugs in her trials apparently,' Guilford pondered. He then punched in a few more commands to bring up the report submitted by the destroyer, the cruiser, and the rest of the flotilla the two had been with. The Marshal made sure the report had been sent through the proper channels and that a corroborating investigation would be commenced.
"Cornelia, please have dispatch my regards to the Quartermasters of the Squadron, but I want these ships ready to move out in the next hour," Guilford said. His voice was calm and just loud enough for the rest of the bridge to hear him. This had the effect of conveying his dissatisfaction at the speed of the resupply of his ships, as well as showing the cold steely resolve that he held in his heart.
"Yes sir," replied Corneila. The dissatisfaction would be even more profound and hit home even harder when the message was sent by the captain of the Crusader instead of other standard communication methods.
Once the message was sent Cornelia returned to Guilford's side and lowered her voice so that only the two of them could hear, "I assume we are readying for rotation with the Second?"
"Mhm," Guilford responded. "We are to take up position in the North Western section in support of an exploration mission. Second Fleet will take over here."
Cornelia nodded, "it'll be nice to stretch our legs again."
Guilford grinned, Corenlia had almost fallen in love with the Crusader, he responded with a snicker, "itching to break another record?"
Cornelia smiled and shrugged, "records were made to be broken, what can I say?"
Black Knight Fleet Yards, Alpha Centauri System-2356 a.t.b
The Alpha Centauri System was one of the first star systems to colonized by humanity, it had therefore seen a large growth in population and industry. It had become a system renowned for its shipyards, both civilian and Black Knight. Ships both civilian and military were constructed in system, though those military vessels built were then taken out of system for their "Trials," while civilian craft had their trials in system.
Standing in a raised observation booth Princeps Marshal Tamaki looked over the construction the newest addition to the Imperial Black Knights Fleet. The vast expanse of the new Yamato-class Super Dreadnought. The warship was based on Lelouch's old flagship during the Great Global War, which was now a memorial museum, however, this new class was far larger, when finished the ship would be four kilometers long. She would also boast advanced sensor suites, powerful VARIS and Radiant Hadron weapons, and powerful overlapping shield generators.
This particular ship would ultimately be Tamaki's new flagship and would take the name of his old ship Silver Blade. It would also be the second in her class, the first had been named Imperator's Vires and served as Lelouch's new personal flagship. One other Yamato had been built already in addition to the Vires, along with the Silver Blade two more Yamatos was being built and would be assigned to one of the Imperium's six fleets.
Ultimately a total of five Yamato super-dreadnoughts, one for the Emperor, one for the Princeps Marshal, both of whom would use them as mobile command centers, moving from fleet to fleet as necessary; the rest would assigned to a fleet. Those fleets that did not receive a Yamato had been formatted for different duties, such as fast hit and run attacks on enemies, or had a good sized compliment of battleships and cruisers to act as a powerful battlefleet or battering ram. There was even talk of special stealth frigates in the works for these fleets.
The Imperium's naval doctrine had the Super-dreadnought be the "ace in the hole," for drawn out battles of campaigns. Resources could then be spent on more conventional battleships, cruisers, and destroyers. Really, the Imperium wanted ships with massive amounts of firepower, but also ship templates that, while being beyond excellent, could also be reasonably produced. Tamaki was a firm supporter of this, the idea of having something like a Yamato-class under his command was something he had jumped behind almost immediately. Now he stood watching has his personal one was being built by Imperial hands.
The dockyards sat floating in the void while pieces of the vast ship were floated into place and were welded into place by either workmen in space suits of construction drones. Tamaki watched as the great ship's outer works neared final completion. He then looked to the side at another screen and saw the internal Mjolnir-B Reactor was finishing installation. The massive power plant was a great upgrade upon the old style Mjolnirs the Imperium had been using. The previous Mjolnir-A reactors, and their different Mks, had been slowly phased out of the Black Knight fleet. During refits reactors of the ships were replaced with the newer powerplants that had been designed by Nina Einstein.
Said scientist had been elated at the discovery that the system she had made into a weapon had been repurposed to what she had originally intended it to be. Upon getting clearance and funding from the Imperial government, she had gone about redesigning the Mjolnir. Now the newer models gave more power, were smaller, and had added safety features built into the reactor rooms and chambers themselves.
Tamaki smiled as he watched the construction of the ship, a buzzer rang, and Tamaki pressed a button to open the communication channel. The voice on the other end spoke, "how is the ship coming Tamaki?"
Tamaki fully took his gaze away from the construction to look at the image of the Emperor that was on the viewing screen. Tamaki straightened ever so slightly out of habit and replied, "very well old friend. She'll be a beauty when she's finally completed, and an absolute monster on the dance floor."
Lelouch grinned, "I knew you'd like her."
"Oh yes!"
"Don't get to excited now," Lelouch snickered. "Or Ayano might get jealous and you'll be sleeping on the couch again."
Tamaki visibly deflated at the mention of that punishment his wife had inflicted on him on more than one occasion since they had been married. The Marshal was glad no one else was around to here the Emperor, or else Tamaki would have felt completely embarrassed. Seeing his friends' distress Lelouch laughed, "anyway, how are the other ships?"
Glad to be off the subject Tamaki replied, "the other Yamatos are nearing completion as well. My inspection will double check all of this of course."
"Of course," Lelouch nodded.
"In all, I believe the Silver Blade will be completed within the year, the Black Eagle and the Tempest will take probably another year for completion."
Lelouch nodded, "a new ship type always takes time."
"Indeed," Tamaki agreed. "Especially with the amount of quality, safety, and testing that is needed for something like this."
Lelouch smiled again, "well we're not in any real rush now are we old friend."
Tamaki grinned, "very true."
Unnamed Star System, 2356 a.t.b.
Not every world or star system within the Imperium was inhabited, named, or even fully explored. The Imperium would usually seek out world the most compatible with their Terraforming techniques and colonize those world's first. Also, those planets that had appeared on recovered star charts on Mars that had been hot spots of Prometheans were sought out archeological information could be found. Systems around these worlds would then be surveyed and explored, most of these would not get an actual name, however. Other systems in between these worlds would get similar treatments as and were then explored.
This particular star system was one such thing, its designation was just another large number and letter sequence on the Imperium star charts. Long distance telescopic sensors had looked at the star system years prior but had not seen anything that would garner much interest. This had later changed when a couple of the system's larger bodies had collided, and a large asteroid field had been created. Suffice it to say, possible easy access to a plethora of minerals had been enough for the system's survey date to be bumped considerably on the list.
On this particular day an Imperial probe ship Warped into the system and began its programed list of duties. The large probe roamed the system scanning as it went, its course sent it moving into the area of the debris field. It was here that something caught the probe's attention and it automatically altered its course to get a closer look. If the probe had been capable of higher thought like a sentient being it probably would've thought that what it was picking up was a large chunk of raw minerals. It would likely have been thinking along the line of, 'oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!'
As the probe moved to the very edge of the debris field, when the anomaly came into "view" the nature of the thing that had been picked up began to take on a different proverbial form. The thing did not match anything in the probe's database, sure it seemed to be made of familiar minerals but everything about it was unlike anything naturally occurring. The probe then switched to different pre-programmed procedures to find out what it was dealing with. It took a visual image and ran scans through its programs trying to determine what it was looking at while other systems scanned the clump of space junk that it had found.
The probe then came to the one in escapable conclusion, it had found a ship, a ship that did not belong to the Imperium. The probe's programming immediately sent out a signal to the Imperial high command with everything the probe had found. History was being made.
Sol System, Europa moon of Jupiter-2356 a.t.b.
The discovery of the alien ship had sparked immediate action within the Imperium, though all the action taken was done so in a very quiet manner. No public announcement had yet been made and the wreckage of the ship had been retrieved and taken to Europa above Jupiter. The facilities on the moon varied, including a few civilian pieces, but the vast majority of were Black Knight and government locations.
The Imperial Guard had taken up the security of the alien craft and the facility it was now stored in had been placed under the tightest of security. The entire moon was now orbited by powerful Imperial Guard ships, with a large number of them having their weapons systems aimed at the facility below. With the unknown nature of the alien craft it had been decided that if something were to go horribly wrong, the entire facility would be purged.
Rakshata and Lloyd were in a state of absolute bliss as they looked over the preliminary data that had been compiled on the craft. The two had refocused Cerberus's resources onto this new project with the utmost gusto. It was easy to see that the pair were excited to dissect alien technology, they were practically drooling.
"Is Cerberus up to the task?" Lelouch asked. His image was projected on the screen but gave off no less the authoritative air because of his lack of physical presence.
The two scientists managed to tear their view away from the data and nodded, Rakshata smiled, "of course my dear patron. Cerberus will be more than able to do what must be done here."
Lloyd nodded in agreement, "very much so my lord. Cerberus accepts this challenge with great eagerness."
Lelouch's stern look did not fade away, "I expect result sooner rather than later, something of this importance take immediate priority over all other Cerberus projects."
Rakshata and Lloyd bowed, "yes, my lord."
Days later
Cerberus drones and technicians swarmed the alien craft, sparks flew from areas of the ship that were being cut away. The ship itself bore no resemblance to anything, it was crumpled in parts and it was obvious different sections were missing. Whatever the craft had looked like it had since vanished under the bombardment of the elements.
"A rather large amount of Element Zero integrated into the ships tech," Rakshata mused to herself.
"I'd dare say that whoever built this vessel has their tech near totally dependent on the stuff," Lloyd added from across the room.
Rakshata nodded, "if that's the case then it's almost certain that they are likewise dependent on the Mass Relays for galactic travel."
Lloyd nodded as he looked over some the schematics that had been made from compiling scans of the ship, and the few sections that could be physically accessed. Lloyd hummed at what he found, turning to Rakshata who was herself looking at other findings, "there is something interesting about this. More specifically it is the lack of something that is truly intriguing."
Rakshata rolled her eyes, "I don't know if you've noticed but most of the ship is missing."
Lloyd huffed, "not that! There is something missing from what is already here."
Rakshata prepared another barb but Lloyd held up a hand, "don't you say anything. Come look at this."
Sighing the Indian scientist walked over and looked at the schematics, "what am I looking for?"
"You don't see what's missing?"
Not wanting to carry on the issue anymore Rakshata sighed, "no, what?"
Lloyd leaned in pointed, "the duct works that are here are not suited for atmosphere circulation. They are all for maintenance and nothing else, there are no visible signs of any life support systems that we know of."
Rakshata sighed again, "Lloyd, they are aliens. You really think that all their tech will mirror ours?"
Lloyd's eyebrows furrowed, "of course not. But look at it, there are no visible signs of standard life support. This means that the ship is either a drone or it's atmosphere was scrubbed clean by the ship's very hull."
The two were about to continue when a ring sounded in the room and the voice of the AI Maximillian came through, "sir and mam. We are ready to try and revive the drone."
Rakshata responded, "very well we will be there presently."
The two quickly left the room and moved to the secured lab which held the mostly intact drone that had been found on the ship. No other passengers had been found aboard and the drone was the only one of its kind that had been found that was intact enough to try and restart. It was theorized that the drones were used by the ship's owners for hazardous environment repairs and general handywork. This was the working theory as the Imperium used drones for similar purposes, and it was the most logical thing that could be thought of at the moment.
Entering the observation section, the two scientists look down into the lab, what was left of the drone was hooked up to terminals as best as was possible. Technicians monitored these terminals with their Omni-tools remotely, and all made doubly sure that none of the terminals were connected to the main facility computers. An improvised photoreceptor had been hooked up to the machine as, what they thought were its original ones were missing.
Maximillian's holographic image, a man dressed in a simple suit appeared and spoke, "we are ready to start the process. The terminals' VIs have been given all the translation programs we believe will work, it's all in the simplest code we can make, hopefully it won't appear harmful. As well all security precautions are in place, should anything go wrong we can cut power to the drone and room at best, at worst we can purge the entire chamber."
Lloyd responded, "wonderful Maxie. Time to start."
The hologram AI nodded and said, "beginning power transfer."
A small alarm sound in the chamber the technicians inside backed away and took cover behind erected shields. A light began to shine from the drone as it began to power up, information also began to be uploaded from the terminals. The improvised photo receptor sparked to life and glowed sending visual information to the drone's computer brain for the first time in a long time.
The lone "eye" swiveled and took in its surroundings and itself while its internal systems ran diagnostics. Maximillian's voice then sounded in the room, "greetings. We are representatives of the Terran Star Imperium. What may we call you?"
The machine paused for a moment before responding through the terminals which gave it a voice, "we are Geth."
