The Boy Who Loved Book 1: First Year

A Harry Potter Fanfic by : Lordwolf3000

This is a AU Harry Potter/Harem story and the first book or two will be rated T but then in either Third or Fourth Year will become M rated. This is the first book in what I hope to be a full series rewrite of the Harry Potter books. This is my vision of how I believe the books should have been done. I will be trying to stick to the cannon as much as possible except for the obvious changes that I envision. Along with some stuff added in from various other fanfics out there that I really loved.

I welcome comments and feedback on my stories so that I can improve as a writer.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters or anything from the wizarding world of Harry Potter they belong to JK Rolling. This is entirely fan made.

Harry Potter was not your normal, everyday young boy. In fact their was very little about him that could be considered normal. For one thing he had been raised by his mother's sister and her husband, Petunia and Vernon Dursley. The reason for this is because his parents were murdered when he was a baby. The one who had killed his parents had also tried to kill him, but Harry had somehow survived, virtually unscathed except for a distinct, lighting shaped scar on his forehead. Another reason he was not normal was because Harry was a wizard, as had been his father, and his mother had been a witch. The man who had killed his parents had been a wizard as well, in fact he was one of the most powerful and evil dark wizards of all time. The dark wizard known as Lord Voldemort.

Harry's aunt had been estranged from her sister Lily for many years, but when she found out that she had lost her sister without ever having a chance to reconcile she felt terrible. She realized how much she had loved Lily and missed her and decided she would do her best to raise Harry to be someone that would make his parents proud. She loved Harry as much as she did her and Vernon's son Dudley, and they tried to raise both boys to be good, caring people. When Harry was 5 His parents old friend Remus Lupin paid him a visit and told Harry all about his parents, including how they died. Over the years Lupin became a frequent visitor and befriended the Dursley's quite well. Lupin told Harry all about Hogwarts, and quite a bit about the wizarding world in general. But felt it best not to tell him too much about how famous Harry was in their world.

When Harry's 11th birthday was he finally received something he had been looking forward to for years, his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. After the owl delivered his letter he read the letter attached to it explaining that Hagrid, the keeper of keys and grounds at Hogwarts, would meet him on the day after his birthday in London at a place called The Leaky Cauldron. Where he would be able to enter Diagon Alley to get his school supplies.

So the day after his birthday, still stuffed with cake and punch from the birthday party that the Dursley's had thrown him the day before, they drove him to London and dropped him off at The Leaky Cauldron. They would be back later to pick him up later after going to do some shopping in muggle London. Harry entered the door to the Leaky Cauldron and looked around, everyone he saw in there were wearing brightly colored robes of all different kinds along a wide variety of pointy hats. Harry easily spotted Hagrid, seeing as how the half giant was easily twice the size and height of anyone else there. Hagrid saw him and approached, Harry had seen pictures of Hagrid in some of the photos that his uncle Lupin had given him of his parents and their friends. But seeing the giant of a man in person was overwhelming.

Hagrid greeted, " ello arry, blimey, I haven't seen ye since ye were a baby and ye sure have grown. You look just like yer dad, but you ye got yer mum's eyes."

Hagrid smiled at him, and Harry smiled back. He was happy to meet another of his parents friends. "It's great to finally meet you Hagrid," Harry replied.

"Well best get going, lots ter buy," Hagrid said.

As Harry followed Hagrid through the place Harry noticed many people staring at him, a hunched back man behind the bar said, " bless my soul, it's Harry Potter!"

People surrounded and greeted him, shaking his hand and welcoming him back to the wizarding world. Harry had known that he was apparently somewhat famous for surviving the attack on his family, but he never expected this much attention. It made him feel odd, being looked at like some kind of hero. As far as he was concerned his parents were the heroes, they gave their lives to save his. He just wanted to be Harry, and enjoy a normal life, well as normal a life as a wizard could have.

As they approached the bar Harry saw a man in bright purple robes, with a matching purple turban on his head staring at him.

The man stuttered out, " H-H-Harry P-P-Pot-t-terr, so p-p-pleased t-to m-m-meet you!"

Hagrid said," Professor Quirrel, I didn't see ye there." Hagrid looked to Harry and said, " Professor Quirrel will be your Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher Harry."

Harry held out his hand and said," pleased to meet you sir."

Quirrel looked at his offered hand but didn't extend his own and said, " f-f-fearfully f-f-fascinating s-subject, n-not t-that y-you n-n-need, ay P-P-Potter."

They said goodbye to the professor and went through a back door. They were standing in a space surrounded by brick walls and had several garbage cans scattered about. Hagrid approached the back of the brick wall and pulled out a small umbrella which he used to tap three different bricks. Next thing Harry knew the wall started shaking and he heard the sound of several bricks grinding together and then an opening began to appear as the bricks seemed to merge into themselves to each side until a large arched walkway was revealed. Harry gazed in wonder at the sights and sounds he could make out through the opening.

Hagrid boomed, " welcome Harry, to Diagon Alley."

Harry followed Hagrid and felt like he might get whiplash from rapidly moving his head so quickly in different directions, trying to look at all the incredible sights. They passed shop after shop of different magical goods. Outside an apothecary he heard two witches complaining about the cost of potion ingredients. They passed by a shop called, Quality Quidditch Supplies where a large group of people were starting through the window ogling over a magnificent looking broomstick. A boy said," the new Nimbus 2000, it's the fastest model yet!" Harry couldn't wait until his flying lessons at Hogwarts began. Uncle Lupin had told him all about Quidditch and how his father had played seeker, and Harry had wanted to play ever since he heard.

They continued on for a bit when Harry suddenly wondered at something and asked, " Hagrid, how exactly am I supposed to pay for everything?"

Hagrid smiled and said," there's yer money Harry", he pointed his big hand at a very large, but lopsided looking building," Gringotts Bank, ain't no place safer, 'cept perhaps Hogwarts."

They went up the steps of the building leading to the entrance. Standing out front was a short, unsavory looking creature whom was waving some device at people entering the bank.

Harry asked Hagrid quietly," Hagrid, is that a goblin?"

Hagrid nodded and answered," yep Harry it is, goblins are very clever and good at handling money and finances, but they ain't the friendliest if sorts. Best to be polite." Harry nodded and after the goblin had scanned them and confirmed that they weren't hiding any theft devices of any sort he allowed them to enter.

They walked in and went down a long corridor with hundreds of goblins at desks in all sides, as well as many shuffling around conducting business. They approached an empty space at the front counter where a grey haired troll was writing in a ledger.

He noticed them and asked, "may I help you?"

Hagrid answered," Mr. Harry Potter wishes to make a withdrawal."

The goblin leaned forward and said, " ahh, yes, young Lord Potter, we've been expecting your arrival. Your school trust account was activated when we received word that you would be attending Hogwarts this year. You also have your family's main vault, as well as a safe deposit box containing all of your inherited properties, businesses, betrothal contracts, etc… Of course you won't be able to access the master accounts or take full ownership of your estate until you come of age at 17. As for the betrothal contracts, you shall have to review and sign them when you are at least 14, so that you can start to fulfill the obligations stated in them and begin courting your chosen brides."

Harry was bewildered, he was a Lord? And he owned properties and businesses? And he had marriage contracts? Blimey, that was a lot to take in, he finally decided that he would worry about all that later, when he was older.

The goblin leafed through some papers and pulled out a brown stack of parchment. He slid it in front of Harry and placed a small metal stand with a sharp looking spire on top of it. The goblin said," please sign on the marked section, and then prick your right index finger on the spire and place a drop of your blood next to your signature. It is so you may gain full access to your trust account."

Harry grimaced but did so, as soon as he had placed his blood on the parchment the whole stack glowed a bright golden color. The goblin's eyes widened and he said," well that's interesting, it seems that there are other accounts tied to your bloodline and since you are the sole living member of that bloodline it makes you the sole heir, one moment."

The goblin tapped the parchment twice with his finger and nine more stacks of parchment magically appeared on the counter. The goblin went through them and said," my goodness, according to these you are the heir to not only the Potter House, but the houses of Black, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Peviral, Pendragon, Merlin, and Morganna Lefay. You shall gain access to all of those accounts as well when you come of age, including ownership of Hogwarts itself. You have inherited this all through either blood or marriage's of your different ancestors, except for Slytherin, you gained ownership of that house through conquest. Some of these come with more marriage contracts, open ones that don't specify a bride, only that you must take a bride to carry on the name and produce an heir for that house. Well for now here's your signet ring that will allow you to access your trust vault. Good day Lord Potter."

Harry was speechless and accepted the ring which magically fit his left ring finger. He gaped for a minute and finally managed to clear his head if all the swirling thoughts brought on by all this new information. He decided he would worry about it all later.

Hagrid handed the goblin a small envelope and said in a whisper" Dumbledore also sent me ter get you-know-what, out of vault you-know-which."

The goblin nodded and said," very well," and he yelled for another goblin to take them to the vaults," Griphook!" The New goblin led them through a set of doors and to a cart on a rail that they climbed in and rode to the vaults.

About an hour later Harry and Hagrid left the bank, Harry now carrying a bag full of gold galleons, and Hagrid had taken a small package out of the special vault they visited and asked Harry not to mention it to anyone. They went to all the different shops getting all of Harry's school things, including tailor made robes, he got them at 'Madam Malkin's robes for all occasions'.

In there he met a boy his age with slick backed blond hair and a scrunched up face like a ferret. The very rude, snobbish boy went on and on about Slytherin house and how he couldn't wait to be in it. Before long there was only one thing left on his list," I still need a wand."

Hagrid said," you'll want Ollivander's, t'aint no place better, you go ahead, I have something I need to get."

As Harry approached the wand shop he saw a couple with their young daughter going to the shop as well. The man was tall and thin, but with an athletic build and he had light brown hair, and bright brown eyes. His wife was very pretty and had long, bushy, dark brown hair and grey eyes. Harry mostly paid attention to the girl, she was around his age and looked like a smaller version of her mother. She was very pretty, had bushy brown hair, full pouty lips, and bright brown eyes like her father.

They noticed Harry approaching the store as well and that he was alone, so they kindly let him go in first. They all went in after Harry said thanks. No one was behind the counter but then a man came sliding along on a ladder down one of the shelves. He looked at Harry and said," ah, I wondered when I'd be seeing you Mr. Potter. It seems only yesterday your mother and father were in here buying their first wands." The man then went about the shelves gathering different boxes.

Harry heard the girl behind him gasp and he turned to her as she said," holy cricket! Your Harry Potter, I've read about you."

Harry looked at her and asked," I'm in books?"

She answered," oh yes, you're in modern magic history, and great magical events of the 20th century. But your much cuter in person than in the books illustrations." She realized what she said and blushed like a tomato.

Harry blushed too but smiled and said," thank you, you're cute too."

They both were blushing profusely and the girls father said," good to meet you Harry, my name is Daniel Granger. This is my wife Jean, and our daughter Hermione."

Harry shook their hands and said," pleased to meet you too."

Harry then had to turn his attention back to Mr. Ollivander, whom had set several boxes containing wands on the counter. Harry tried wand after wand, none of which seemed to be a good match. But Mr. Ollivander just seemed to get more excited the longer it took to find the right one. After Harry had tried every wand on the counter and none were right Mr. Ollivander thought a moment and said, "I wonder," he then went back through the shelves and brought out one more box.

He pulled the wand inside out and as soon as Harry held it a warm glow spread from his hand up his arm and a strong wind seemed to pass through the place.

Mr. Ollivander said," curious, very curious."

Harry asked," sorry, what's curious?"

Mr. Ollivander answered as he took the wand back to place in it's box and wrap it, "I remember every wand I've ever sold Mr. Potter, and it so happens that the phoenix who's tail feather resides in your wand have another feather, just one. What's curious is that you should be destined for this wand when it's brother, well it's brother gave you that scar."

Harry was shocked and asked," Voldemort? The other wand belonged to Voldemort?"

Ollivander visibly shuddered at the name and said," we dare not speak his name. The wand chooses the Wizard Mr. Potter, it's not always clear why. But I believe it is clear that we can expect great things from you. After all, he-who-must-not-be-named did great things, terrible, but great!"

Harry paid for his wand and then waited whilst Hermione found hers. After the Granger's paid for her wand they all exited the shop.

Hagrid was waiting out front holding a bird cage containing a beautiful snow white owl. He said," happy birthday Harry!" and he gave Harry the owl. Harry smiled and thanked Hagrid, then Hagrid introduced himself to the Granger's and they introduced themselves to him.

They all decided to join each other for lunch in the Leaky Cauldron since they were all done with their shopping. As they were eating Harry and Hermione discussed the fact that his wand and Voldemort's wand had twin cores. Apparently Hermione, who very much loved books and reading, had read that that kind of connection was really rare when it came to phoenix feathers.

After that they spent some time asking about each other. It turned out that Hermione was a muggle born witch, meaning her parents weren't magical, they were both dentists.

Harry really liked how Hermione was so knowledgeable and clever. He greatly admired intelligence, plus she greatly reminded him of his mother, from the way his aunt and Lupin had described her, his mom had been very bright and an extremely talented witch, and of course his mum was also muggle-born. Harry also thought that Hermione was very sweet, and very cute, and he kept looking at her and blushing and she did the same to him.

Hermione's parents noticed the way the two children kept looking at each other and blushing and they thought it was very cute. And with how well they were getting along they were thrilled because it seemed their daughter had finally made a real friend.

After an hour or so the Granger's finally had to leave, Harry and Hermione said their goodbyes and agreed to meet on the platform for the Hogwarts Express on September 1st. After they left Harry's mind was still on Hermione, he felt as if he had finally made his first true friend. Growing up in muggle school there were plenty of children who were friendly with him, but he had never really connected with anyone the way he seemed to with Hermione.

After thinking of her for awhile he finally asked Hagrid something he'd been wanting to know. " Hagrid, I know I'm famous, but why am I so famous. How is it everyone knows my name? Just because I survived Voldemort's attack on my family?"

Hagrid winced and said," don't say the name Harry. The reason yer so famous is because ye didn't only survive the attack, yer responsible fer his downfall. Somethin bout you stumped him that night and he lost his powers when he tried to kill you. Some say he died, codswallop in my opinion. No I reckon he's out there still. To tired and weak ter carry on."

This surprised Harry but he put it to the back of his mind to think about later. At around 2 PM Hagrid gave Harry his train ticket and the Dursley's picked him up and they headed home. Harry couldn't wait to go to Hogwarts, and he couldn't wait to see Hermione again.

Thanks for reading, I'm working on the next chapter and will try to post it soon. Sorry the first one was so long, but I wanted to get through the trip to Diagon Alley. I'll try to make following chapters a little shorter but I can't make any promises. I hope you like the story so and there will be plenty more surprises in store.
