A Lincoln Loud 'No Such Luck' story. I know it is used quite a lot and some people find it boring and cliché but I find the concept interesting hence why I am writing this. In this story, we'll say that Lincoln is 11 and Carol is 17 turning 18 soon. Thanks and enjoy, unkownwriter21
(I don't own the loud house, that belongs to Nick Savino and Nickelodeon and them man so yeah)
Chapter 1:
In the dead of the night, nothing could be heard. The moon was shining over the houses, it was the only source of light. It was 11pm. Carol Pingrey was walking home from her work at Gus games'n'grub. Ugh! She had to work overtime because they were currently 'understaffed' or something like that. It was stupid! At least they were willing to put in a little more dough for her services though. Guess they were really desperate. Carol carried on walking as she neared 1216 Franklin Avenue, The Louds residence. Home to her friend/ ex-enemy, Lori. Lori wasn't at work that day because it was her day off. Lucky Fuck. As she neared the home, she could smell the faint smell of smoke. She could tell that it wasn't smoke from a housefire or something but still, she was curious. Carol walked closer to the Louds house and entered their drive. Beside Vanzilla she could see a young kid leaning on the minivan and they were... smoking? This kid was definitely not of the age to smoke. Upon further inspection she could see that the kid had white hair and an orange shirt, with blue jeans? Wait, she knew this person. How could she not. It was...
Carol: "Lincoln?!"
Carol shouted quite loudly and shocked both herself and Lincoln. Lincoln looked to his left and looked at Carol like a deer in the headlights. His eyes seemed quite tired. She could see purple bags forming underneath his eyes. His eyes were wide like those of owls. He certainly didn't expect to see her right now.
Lincoln: "Oh, um … heyyyyy Carol."
He quickly pushed the cigarette behind him and stared at her with a blatantly artificial smile. Of course, Carol quickly picked him up from his collar and pulled him up so they were face to face. Lincoln could see the anger seeping from her eyes. His cigarette which had been in his right hand had been dropped onto the floor.
Carol: "What the FUCK are you doing? Why are you smoking?!"
Carol was outraged. Lincoln just stared at her with a scared expression and he was shaking a little from the cold weather but more from fear of the situation he was in right now.
Lincoln: "I... I was... They... I'm... *cough* *cough*"
He was stuttering in fear and the smoking didn't help either as he started coughing. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath and tried breathing in and out like you're told to do to calm down. He then opened his eyes and looked at Carol in the face. She was still giving him an angry glare but there was also something else there. It seemed like concern.
Lincoln: "Could you put me down first?"
Carol was confused until she realised that she was still holding him up in mid air. The popular girl put him down and then stood with her arms folded waiting expectantly for an answer.
Carol: "Well, what are you doing? Explain!" she said impatiently.
Lincoln: "Shush, keep it down." He looked around to see if anyone had awoken. No, all the lights were still of. "Okay I'll tell you. geez."
He sat down and picked up his cigarette. He beckoned Carol to sit next to him. She snatched the cigarette from his hand, crushed it under her foot, then sat down. Lincoln looked surprised for a split second but then realised that ,of course, she wasn't just gonna let him smoke in front of her. He stared up into the sky and began talking.
Lincoln: "Wow, okay. So, basically, I'm not allowed inside because I'm bad luck and I was stressed so I wanted to relieve that stress by smoking a cigarette."
The manner in which Lincoln said made it sound as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Carol stared at Lincoln trying to process what he just said. She then frowned and looked at him angrily. Was he trying to wind her up? But when she stared at his face, she saw no hints of lying, just pain. Carol then put a hand on his shoulder. He turned his head towards her.
Carol: "I don't even... are you being serious?"
Lincoln: "Do I look like I'm in the mood to joke around?"
Carol: "..."
Carol was speechless. She couldn't even comprehend what to say or do. How dare they put their only son/brother outside of the house in the cold. She started feeling angry again but not at Lincoln, rather at the rest of the Loud family. What she had just heard was extremely disgusting.
Lincoln: "Carol? Carol? CAROL!" She shook her out of her thoughts. The blonde turned to see Lincoln staring at her with concern. "You okay?"
Carol: "No I'm not okay. What they did to you is terrible. I can't believe this. This is just so... so... so disgusting... so... so fucked up. This isn't right."
Carol was on the verge of tears. She couldn't believe it. The way they were treating him but also the way he was just taking it. He didn't do anything, he just accepted it as if it was a normal occurrence. Lincoln stood up and brushed himself off. He then pulled out his hand to help Carol up too. She took his hand and they stared at each other. A million, no, a billion questions flooded into her mind. How long has this been going on for? Did they even feed him? Why hasn't he said anything? Lincoln seemed to sense this and pulled her into a hug. Carol was surprised but accepted the hug and returned it.
Lincoln: "I know you must have lots of questions but it's late. You need to get home. You probably have work or something tomorrow. We can talk tomorrow. It's not like I'm going anywhere or anything." he commented sarcastically.
Carol: "O-okay. Wait, where are you gonna sleep?" He patted the floor where they were both previously seated and only now did she see it. A newspaper that's connected to another newspaper and rolled up into what seems like a pillow. "No! No way, you're not sleeping here tonight. Come, come with me, I'll take you to my house and you can sleep there."
Lincoln: "No, I don't want to be a bother to you. It's fine" The boy with the cowlick smiled. A fake smile of course.
Carol: "No way! It's fine, you won't be a bother, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I let you sleep here in the cold on the floor."
Lincoln looked as if he was gonna argue but then, as if on cue, it started to rain. It was light rain but it looked like it was definitely gonna build up. Lincoln looked up, then turned to Carol who looked at him with pleading eyes.
Lincoln: "Ok, I'll come with you."
Carol: "Great. Let's go. My house isn't too far away, probably a 10 minute walk or something."
They started walking. They were both deathly silent on the walk there. Carol was gonna ask him some questions but didn't want him to become upset or become uncomfortable. After a few turns and lots of rain, they finally made it to the home. It was a nice house. Two floor house (ground floor and second floor) with a nice coat of white paint all around it. The door was a little less impressive as it seemed a faded white and seemed quite old. The windows were closed and there were blinds blocking any view into it, obviously, because it was night time. There was a little patch of dirt and a few tiles that led up to the house's entrance. There was a fence that definitely needed some fixing as it was broken and missing some pieces. Lincoln walked to the door whilst Carol followed behind him. He stood in front of the door until he realised that he couldn't get in because he didn't have a key. The man with the plan moved to the side awkwardly and Carol opened the door. She entered first and Lincoln entered and saw that the house was very... homely? There were family photos on the walls. Speaking of which, the walls were in desperate need of a good painting. The floor had old clothing and some wrappers of candy bars and a cup of coffee on the floor that had seemingly been stepped on so many times and was starting to sink and become one with the carpet. There was a worn out couch that was, well, worn out and in front of it was a nice flat screen TV. Near the TV, there was a staircase that led to a closed door ('Her bedroom?' Lincoln thought). To the left of the couch there was a door that was slightly ajar and inside Lincoln could see some pans and a wall oven. 'Probably a kitchen then' he thought. He turned around and saw that ,to the right of the entrance door, there was a door. This one was fully open and he could see it was a basement. Inside he could see a bit of a piano and a drum kit. He looked to the ceiling and saw a small, sad little lightbulb that looked as if it wouldn't light anymore than 20 centimetres around itself.
Carol: "Sorry, it's really messy. I wasn't expecting any visitors."
Lincoln: "No, it's fine, I don't mind."
Carol: "Hey, Lincoln, want me to make you something? To eat?"
Lincoln: "Umm, Yes please, if you don't mind."
She giggled at this and told him that it was fine. They both walked towards the kitchen. Once inside, she flicked a switch that lit up the room. He saw that there was a table with 5 chairs. The blonde walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a pack of easy-cook noodles. She turned and waved them in front of him and looked at him in a way saying 'Is this okay?'. He nodded and she started cooking it. He took in his surroundings and saw that there was a window in this room that looked out into a brick wall. 'Wow' he thought.
A few minutes passed and Carol came to a table with two bowls that had noodles in them. Lincoln was already sat down and Carol sat opposite him. She gave him a fork and his bowl of noodles. They started eating. Carol looked at Lincoln whilst eating and he was eating like a homeless man in a 5-star buffet. This broke her heart as it showed how he was hungry and that ,if not for her meeting him by chance, he would've been sat hungry, wet and smoking outside his home. Carol slammed the table in anger as she was deep in thought and Lincoln jumped. It took her a few seconds to realise what she did and she picked her hand up and took it to her chest in an embarrassed smile.
Lincoln: "Oh um, I'm sorry if I did something wrong. I didn't mean to."
Carol: "No no no, it wasn't you Lincoln. I just had a bad thought and got angry, sorry."
They sat in silence again for a minute until Carol spoke out.
Carol: "Sooo... Can I ask what happened exactly? If you don't mind talking about it."
Lincoln: "Yeah, of course. It started when Lynn asked me to come to her match. I said no but she threatened me with a bat." Carol gasped a little at this. "I came to the match and it was the first one I had been to. She lost and blamed it on me and accused me of being bad luck. I told them that she was right" Carol's brow furrowed a bit at this indicating she was confused "because I wanted some alone time. So I guess it was my fault as well. Anyways, it was good for a while because I got alone time but then they refused to let me eat with them at the table in case the 'bad luck' spread to them. I shrugged it off and ignored it but then they kicked me out of my room. Then they sold my stuff and then kicked me out of the house. All because of some STUPID BAD LUCK!"
Lincoln was now trembling with anger and his hand was balled up into a fist. He felt Carol's hand on top of his and he then calmed down a bit. He took a few breaths in and out to compose himself. Carol was thinking that it may not have been the best idea to ask him so soon.
Carol: "If you don't feel like you can tell me it's fine, you could just..."
Lincoln: "No, no. You deserve to know the truth. Now let me see, where were we? Oh yeah, ok, so they kicked me out of the house and fed me through Charles dog entrance. Then, when they would go to big events like Dairy land or a concert or the beach and leave me behind. I needed to end this so I snuck into one of her games disguised as the mascot. They won the game and I revealed that I was there and wasn't bad luck. Guess what happened though? They then thought that the SUIT was lucky when I was wearing it. Now, the minutes of peace I had at first disappeared as I had to go to EVERYONE'S events now. I had to go to the beach one time whilst wearing the squirrel mascot suit and I got lots of rashes on my body. They didn't seem to care at all to be honest. So one day I decided that enough was enough. I told them that I'm not gonna be wearing that Fucking suit anymore. They asked if my decision was final and I said yeah. They then proceeded to kick me out of the house and said that I couldn't come back in until I decided to start wearing the suit again. That was two weeks ago."
The white-haired boy concluded his story with a big sigh. He waited for a response from Carol. There was no sound. As Lincoln looked up, he saw Carol with a hand over her mouth. She was mortified by what she heard and was on the verge of tears. Carol stood up and ran over to Lincoln and pulled him into an embrace. On the sleeve of his shirt, Lincoln felt Carols head and tears falling down his shoulder. Lincoln patted Carols back and whispered her words of comfort over her loud sobs. After a few seconds of sobbing Carol built up the courage to say something.
Carol: "I-I'm s-s-so sor-rry f-for not h-helping y-you sooner." she stuttered in between sobs.
Lincoln picked up Carols head holding her by her chin and looked into her eyes.
Lincoln: "Don't be sorry. It wasn't your fault, you couldn't have known what was going on."
He then pulled her into the same hug again and patted her back. She sniffed and calmed down. She got up and sat down on the chair where her food was. Lincoln wanted to move on from this sour topic and that's when he remembered the basement door.
Lincoln: "So, I saw that there was a basement with some instruments down there. Do they work?" Carol merely nodded "Good, is the room soundproof?" once again she nodded "Would I be allowed to use them tomorrow?" Carol was surprised but nodded yet again.
Lincoln smiled and had his chipped tooth showing to her. This made her happier and she gained a slight smile.
Carol: "So, what do we do about your family tomorrow?" Lincolns smile faltered a bit as he thought. What would he do. "You don't have to go back to them if you don't want to."
Lincoln: "Really!?" Lincoln looked up hopefully at her and she giggled a bit.
Carol: "Of course, you didn't think that I would send you back to them, did you?"
Lincoln: "But I don't want to bother you anymore and..."
Carol: "Lincoln don't be silly, you're not bothering me, you can stay here as long as you want."
Lincoln thanked her profusely and said that he would repay her in anyway possible. She said it wasn't necessary but he insisted. A few moments passed and everyone was still. Then Lincoln carried on eating until his bowl was empty. Carol looked down at her bowl. It was an empty bowl now. Lincoln got up and picked up the dishes and put them in the sink and started cleaning. Carol started protesting but he said that it was the least he could do for her helping him. The blonde looked at the clock on the wall and saw the time. 12:00. Carol got up and wished Lincoln a goodnight as she went up to go to sleep. Lincoln said goodnight and thanked her once again as she went to her bedroom. Her shoes were kicked off her feet and she jumped into bed without bothering to change her clothes. Tomorrow was gonna be a very weird day to say the least.
