A/N: Ok, so I'm just going to give you the basics of the sexual content in this, so if it's too much for you then you'll be aware. The major focus here is definitely the emotions and feelings of the characters, some of which are romantic and some of which are sexual. I would say the most explicit it gets is brief mentions of how a character feels sexually. Like, if they have a boner, then I will say they have a boner, but I'm not going to go into explicit detail on anatomy. If there are any major updates, like if things get way more explicit, then I'll give you fair warning.
Chapter 1
"Hand me the tweezers, will you?" Tech reached out his hand. He was currently on his back underneath a massive engine, a massive broken engine to be more accurate. Tech E. Coyote, being the brilliant genius he was, had come up with the idea to simply shrink down engines and circuit boards that would normally be too cumbersome to fit into hand held equipment. At first, it seemed like nothing could go wrong, but turns out the whole operation was more complicated than would first appear. The circuit boards always worked fine, at least in most circumstances; sadly, when playing with the size of engines, it became difficult to balance the horse power as originally intended, with what it now had to do. For an engine this size to run a jet pack for instance was no problem, but shrink it down and it needs to work much harder to keep up. This had resulted in a lot of trial and error. Mostly error.
Rev Runner, Tech's avian assistant, picked up the tweezers and handed them over.
"Yah-know-I've-been-thinking-that-it-might-have-something-to-do-with-the-thermo-cup-link-that-we-installed-last minute-not-to-insinuate-that-last-minute-additions-are-always-bad-but-it-was-just-a-thought-that-crossed-my-mind-after-all-it-was-a-replacement-for-that-heartier-one-we-couldn't-find-since-we-had-used-it-up-on-that-other-one-and-so-the-material-was-perhaps-not-quite-as-good-not-to-say-it-was-bad" Rev was going to continue, but at that moment Tech reached a hand out from underneath the engine, closing Rev's beak, somehow without even looking. Tech wheeled himself out so he could look him in the eyes.
"I already checked the thermo cup link. In fact it was the first thing I checked" he then released Rev from his grasp and wheeled back under the engine. Rev couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed whenever Tech did that. He had a tendency to ramble, every time he did it, it seemed like it annoyed someone, but he couldn't help it; it was just the way his brain worked.
"Well, if that's the case do you think it had something to do with the exertion? Could just be we made it too small and it needed to be slightly bigger" Rev put his hands on his hips, trying to follow up with some sort of comment to make himself seem smarter. He didn't know why, after all the only one here in the lab besides himself was Tech, and Tech knew how smart he was. Even if it wasn't always evident.
"Hold on, this might be it" Tech slid out from underneath the engine and sat up. He was dressed pretty casually, just some jeans and a white t-shirt. Something Rev quickly learned when working with engine's is that you had to wear something you didn't mind getting dirty in. The jeans Tech was wearing were becoming quite frayed, wearing out at the knees, and his old t-shirt probably fit him quite well a few years ago, but now was very tight across the chest, with the slightest bit of mid riff showing depending on how he positioned himself. Both were covered with oil, grease and sweat. Rev wasn't nearly as dirty, but he still had quite a few dark smears from the machinery covering his clothes and feathers.
Tech held up a very small piece of metal, just smaller than a sesame seed, between his thumb and pointer finger, "This right here is what's been causing the problem."
"What is it?" Rev leaned in closer, squinting to try and make it out.
"It's a warped spring. Must've happened during the shrinking process. This occurs every once and a while with smaller objects; molecularly speaking shrinking down something so small is bound to be difficult. If we shrunk it in isolation then I doubt we would even be able to find it again" Tech stood up and threw the spring away, "It's useless now, we'll have to replace it. Jeez this shirt is gross." The coyote could feel the grease and sweat matted between his fur and the shirt. He pulled it forward to try and get some air flow, but between the tightness of the shirt and the copious amounts of moisture it was futile. He didn't normally feel this uncomfortable after working in the lab, but the two of them had been working for hours and this project had gotten him particularly dirty. Maybe he could take it off, although was he really in that much of a rush to get clean? Were the doors closed? They were. The chances of anyone barging in seemed pretty slim. No one besides Rev cared much about what Tech was working on in the lab. They had been in there all day, and no one else had bothered to duck in. Not to mention, historically speaking, the chances of someone coming into the lab with the door closed were pretty low. He looked over to Rev who had just finished packing up the tools.
"Hey" Tech motioned to get his attention.
"Yeah?" Rev looked up, standing to that they were at talking level.
"I'm normally a lot more modest, so don't go telling the others that I was this casual, ok?" Tech requested. At first Rev was confused as to what Tech was talking about, but before he could ask for clarification, it was made quite clear as to what the coyote was referring to. Tech pulled his shirt off over his head, using it as a rag to wipe away some of the sweat and grease from his fore head and arm pits. Tech was shirtless. Rev was seeing Tech without a shirt. A sudden and very unexpected shiver ran from the bird's lower regions up to his chest, resounding in a visceral thump of the heart. Rev was trying to remember the last time this had happened, heck he was trying to remember if this had ever happened. Surely there had been one occasion. What about that time they all went to the beach together? No. They had tried to get Tech to tag along with them, but he was up in arms about how sand and water were bad for his inventions. Not a single one of them had asked Tech to bring his inventions to the beach, but Tech didn't like going anywhere without at least one, so any chance of him tagging along just for fun was off.
The resident genius of the Loonatics was notoriously modest about his body. Not to imply that the rest of them were super open or anything, at least excluding that one-time Duck volunteered for that photoshoot. It was more so the little things which Tech did that Rev had never noticed until looking back upon them just now. For instance, the shower situation. Tech had never been seen walking from the bathroom to his bedroom in a towel. He always brought a clean change of clothes in with him and changed inside. On rare occasions he had seen Tech swimming, emphasis on rare, he had always worn a swim shirt. This was a first then, it had to be.
Rev's eye's widened, his pupils dilated and he felt another thump in his chest. What was going on? Why did he feel this way all of a sudden? He had seen other guys shirtless before. Did he really swing that way? Rev would be lying to himself if he said he hadn't considered the possibility of it before. Whenever he heard other guys talk about girls, he was never quite in sync with the way they felt. They were always so horny, and he just never found women arousing the same way his peers did. It couldn't have meant that much though, surely? That didn't mean he was gay; it just meant those ladies weren't his type. In the locker room, Rev would always do his best to keep to himself. The feelings he had about the other boys bodies, he would always just brush them off. Rev was always confident that one day, he would come across the perfect girl. Some day in the future, he would come across this girl and everything would fall into place. He would instantly feel the attraction and know what it was like to be one of the boys lusting after some gorgeous lady. Well, that day had finally come, and sadly it wasn't a girl.
Did he really feel this way towards Tech though? Did he really feel this way towards guys? It wasn't as if he had anyone to talk to this about. His parents weren't particularly forward thinking in their views on coyotes and other predators, so he could hardly imagine how they would react if he told them he wasn't attracted to girls. There was always Rip, but being so open like that with anyone was really hard. In all honesty he was happy to just have Tech as a friend, at least that was what he thought up until now. Tech's fur was matted down by the oil, sweat and grease, making his slim muscular form very apparent. The way he was all tired and sweaty, and the way he looked in those old jeans just awakened something in Rev he was unwilling to admit was there.
"Hey Rev, you all right?" Tech snapped his fingers trying to bring the bird back to reality.
"Wha? Oh, yeah, I'm fine! Just-zoned-out-for-a-minute-there-thinking-about… stuff." Fortunately for Rev, Tech wasn't used to having people look at him in that sort of way. It didn't mean that Tech wasn't on to him though. Whenever Rev started up one of his rambles he usually went on and on until someone stopped him. The way he barely got going before slowing down like that, Tech knew that something was going on.
"You sure you're ok? You seem to be acting a bit… out of it" Tech inquired.
Rev was surprised how bad Tech was at reading these sorts of signals. Then again, that was probably a reason he was the one doing machines and not human resources. Not that Rev was complaining. He was not at all prepared to be questioned about this sort of stuff, especially by the guy he had feelings for.
Rev did his best to quickly make up an excuse, "Yeah, just a bit dazed after being in the work zone for so long." It wasn't the best, but it seemed plausible enough. They had both worked hours upon hours in the lab in the past and been a bit dazed after getting out of "the zone" so he knew there was at least some precedent for it.
"Yeah, I guess we have been in here a while. Thanks for not making a big deal about the shirt by the way. I'm not normally this open, but I was feeling really gross and it was just you and me in here so I figured why not." Tech said in a trusting and honest manner.
"No problem" Rev managed to stammer out, sounding at least somewhat normal.
"Just between you and me I'm not the most comfortable being open like this" Tech finished wiping off the grease from his fur to the best of his ability, but with the shirt already so dirty it was difficult to tell if he was making any progress or just smearing things around. He threw the shirt off to the side, then walked past Rev, patting his shoulder briefly in a friendly, platonic manner. "I figured we were good enough friends that it wouldn't be too uncomfortable."
Rev did everything he could to suppress the tantalizing shiver which ran through his body as Tech's hand made its brief moment of contact. His mouth ran dry.
"Sure as hell wouldn't be this open if Duck was around to comment. Anyway, I'll just be showering and then we can catch up with the rest of the guys for dinner, I'm fine with whatever they decide." With that Tech was gone. Rev was astounded at how casual Tech was about the whole thing. Being casual about his shirt-lessness that it, not the dinner. That settled it, there was no way he could risk being open with Tech about his feelings. The coyote could not have been more transparent about it if he tried. Tech clearly only felt comfortable around Rev as a friend, and that was the only reason he allowed himself to be seen like that. They were friends, and that was the only way Tech wanted things. At least, that was how Rev Runner saw the situation. He looked over to the black mark Tech's dirty paw had made on Rev's shirt. Of course, Rev's shirt was already dirty, but this faded hand mark, barely visible against the rest of the grime, somehow stood out to him. He could feel the last vestige of fading warmth where Tech had placed his hand leaving his shoulder.
Who was he kidding? The way he felt about Tech E. Coyote was the least of his worries! His emotions were so tangible, so undeniable at this point, that he had no choice but to confess to himself the way he truly felt. He had been dodging it and avoiding it his entire life, but right here, in this moment, in this cluttered lab, in these dirty clothes, he had to admit to himself that there was no way he could avoid this any longer. Rev sighed. He liked men. No amount of waiting or naughty content on the internet was going to change that. If only this were something out in the real world that Rev could just run away from. He was good at running. He was the best at running. Problem was, the thing he wanted to run away from was right there, it was a part of him.
What was he going to do now? He wasn't going to confess his feelings to Tech, that was for sure. Should he come out of the closet? No, too soon. Then again, if not now then when? He was certain it would seem weird to come out to the gang right after seeing Tech shirtless for the first time. Tech might not have been the brightest when it came to that sort of stuff, but even he would be able to put two and two together. Plus, it was like Tech said. No way he was going to be that open with Duck around. Different context but it still applied. Maybe he could just start small. Someone close, but not a part of the team.
