So this is set in Season 3, between Episodes 10 and 11. Zach never went to Iraq, instead he fought at the Battle of Hogwarts alongside Harry. Hope you enjoy!

"Dr Brennan?"
"Yes Zach?"
"Harry has a staff meeting, and Marisole is sick. Am I okay to collect Teddy from school and bring him back to the lab?"
"That's fine. I can assign an Intern to watch over him once you get back"
"Thank you."

"TEMPE." Running through the doors to the Medico-Legal lab, Harry Black yelled for his husband's boss. Clutching his son to his chest he scanned the forensic platform for the man in question.

"Harry?"
"Please tell me he got caught up in Limbo or doing an experiment with Jack and that the voicemail I got was the twins trying to play a joke on me. Tell me he lost track of time and that's why the school called me"

"Harry what's going on? Zach left to get Teddy over an hour ago"

"The school called me, he didn't show up. Then when I checked my phone to see if I had missed a call or message from him I found a voicemail telling me he had been taken."
"Let me listen to it"

Handing his phone over to Tempe, Harry cradled his son closer worrying over his husband. Temperance face told him all he needed to know.

"Dr Brennan? What's going on?" The voice of Camille Saroyan sounded across the lab.
"Harry? What are you doing? Zach said you had a staff meeting?" Angela asked, walking towards the platform with Hodgins in tow and motioning for the man to hand over his child, which he did willingly, knowing he could trust the other woman.
"The grave digger has Zach"

"I'll call Seeley"

The sight Seeley Booth walked into was not one he had seen before. Angela had her arm around a young man in a suit, who had red rimmed bloodshot eyes to match Angela's. Hodgins was pacing, Cam mimicking him opposite and Bones was sat on a chair with a kid curled up on her lap.

"What Happened?"

"Zach left just before 3 to go pick Teddy up." Indicating the child in her lap, who she had curled her arms round tighter Bones addresses her partner. "At just past four Harry came barrelling in looking for Zach. Ry?"
"The school called me at quarter to four, Mya took the message and pulled me from my meeting, explaining that there was a crisis I had to deal with. I left to get Teddy. It was then that I noticed a voicemail. I thought it was from Zach telling me he got caught up or pulled out to a murder. But it was someone saying they had Zach. I got Teddy and came straight here, thinking the voicemail was two of my brothers playing a prank. I asked Tempe where Zach was and that when we realised that he had been taken by this Grave Digger person"
"How much are they asking?"
"250"
"Thousand?"
"Million"
"Jesus. Except for Hodgins, can anyone else afford that?"
"Its pocket change to me."
"What was your name again?"
"Harry Black."
"And you got the call why?"
"Zach and I have been together since high school."
"Together as in…" a series of hand gestures followed, making Harry and Angela giggle at Booth's immaturity.
"Yes Agent Booth, as in a Homosexual relationship."
"How did you two meet? I don't mean to be rude but I'm pretty sure you're British"
"I am Agent Booth. Zach and I attended the same boarding school in Scotland. He was in the year below me, but we were both having tutoring at the same level in one of our classes. Even though he was a second year he could hold his own against me. We studied together and helped one another out for the rest of the year, wrote to each other in the summer. I asked him to the Christmas dance that was held the next year. We started dating. He was by my side when my godfather died, when our headmaster's body was found, when Teddy was born, when Teddy's parents were murdered. And when the megalomaniac who killed my parents, and had been trying to kill me thought he finally succeeded. I don't much like recounting what happened in High School, Agent Booth. It's all a matter of public record. I can tell you one thing for sure. This Grave Digger is a No-Maj."
"How can you be so certain?"
"You didn't make the connections did you? Boarding school in England, Parents murdered, Godfather dead, Evil Megalomaniac trying to kill me?"
"I don't much keep up with the Wizarding World. Let alone Wizarding Britain" It was during Booth's response to his question that Harry realised something.

"Tempe? Was Zach wearing his necklace?"
"As far as I am aware. Why?"
"I might just be able to figure out where he is."
"What do you mean?" Booth cut in, confused.
"After the War started up in earnest I gave Zach a necklace that was linked to one I have. It served as an emergency tracking beacon and could be activated as a port key if necessary. It was my way of making sure he was safe while I was on the run. If I'm right about it, I can either track his exact location or if he's unconscious, Portkey him here."
"Then what are you waiting for?" Booth asks, looking confused at why the man in front of him hadn't done this before.

Pulling his own necklace from under his shirt, Harry draws his wand and taps a pattern on the back. Sending his magic pulsing through his necklace he reaches with his minds eye.

"He's not injured. I'm going to activate the portkey. Tempe, can you be ready to cast a Rennervate when he's landed?"
"Sure. Ange, take Teddy?"

Moving to give Teddy to Angela, Tempe then pulls her wand to the shock of Booth.

"Wait, you're a witch?"
"I attended Ilvermorny."

"Okay then…"

Allowing Booth a chance to move out of the way, Harry whispers the spell to activate the Port Key on Zach's necklace and waits. Seconds go by as if they were hours as the team waits. Eventually the air begins to spark, Bones casting a cushioning charm on the floor, just in time as Zach's body materialises and falls through the air.

Casting the necessary spells, Bones brings Zach around while casting a diagnostic charm to check him over.

"'Arry?"
"Zach, Love. Are you okay? What happened?"
"Where am I?"
"Angies Office. I used the emergency portkey. Do you know where you were?"
"No. I was going to get Teddy. Is Teddy okay? Who has him?"
"He's here Zach. I've got him."
"He's not hurt is he? I can't remember if I got to him or not"
"No. The school called me when no one came to get him. That's how we knew you were gone"
"Zach Buddy do you know who it was that took you? Did you see them?"
"I don't know. I can't remember. Harry?"
"Yes love"
"Can you check for me? My head hurts"
"Sure love. Legilimens."

Diving into his husband's mind, Harry searches out the last few hours. Finding the memory of Zach asking Tempe if it's alright that he leaves to get Teddy, and following him from there. Getting his jacket, walking out of the Jeffersonian, walking three blocks towards the school. Hearing something in an alleyway. Going down to look. Coming face to face with a woman, asking if she's okay. The woman crying, Zach approaching her, telling her he just wants to check her for injuries and that he worked at the Jeffersonian. The woman launching herself at him with a handkerchief covered with some drug. It all going black and Zach waking up in Angela's office.

"I know who the gravedigger is" Harry announces, breaking the connection. "Tempe, do you have a pensive in your office? I can put the memory in it for you guys to view. And for you to show to your supervisor, Agent Booth"
"I can grab that for you. I know Dr Sweets has one in his office, if you stick the memory in a vial Caroline and Booth can view it at the office?"
"That's a good idea"

"Dad? Why are we at Daddy's work?" A small voice murmured from Angela's arms
"Ted? You awake?"
"Yeah. What happened? I thought Daddy was picking me up after school?"
"I got caught up in something Teddy. I'm sorry for making you worry"
"It's alright. Did someone get murdered? Have you solved it?" Perking up and trying to extract himself from Angela's arms, Teddy tries to figure out why his dads are on the floor. "Aunt Angie, can you let me down please?"
"Sure Kiddo. Be Gentle with your dad yeah?"
"I will. Daddy why are you on the floor?"
"I'm not feeling too good"
"Oh. Is your Tummy Icky?"
"No Teddy, my head hurts."
"Did you faint like Auntie Fleur did when she saw Uncle Charlie's burn that one time?"
"No. But Aunt Tempe thought it would be best for me to lay down"
"Okay. Can I still cuddle you"
"That would be nice" Launching himself at his dad, Teddy curls up against his side.

"He's a good kid" Booth says to Harry
"He's been through a lot. His parents died in the War. Zach and I got custody of him. We came to America mostly because the magical community is integrated fairly well, so his abilities wouldn't be questioned too much."
"Abilities?"
"Teddys a Metamorphagus like his mum."
"Ah. You guys are good with him"
"Honestly if it weren't for Ted and Zach I may well have killed myself after the war ended. I lost so many people. So many people died because of me"
"They choose to fight. They choose to get involved in the War Harry. It's not your fault. It's Voldemort's fault for trying to kill a kid." Tempe speaks up, trying to reassure the man. "Cams gone to call Caroline, Sweets and the Deputy Director to come here. Figured it would be easier than having to go to the office. Go sit with your family Ry."
"Thanks Tempe" Moving to sit on the floor with his Husband and son, Harry lets the brave face drop and buries his face in his husbands neck, breathing in his scent.

"I'm okay love. I'm okay"
"I know. I was so scared when I got that voicemail"
"I understand. But I'm here now. I'm okay. You got me back"
"I know. I don't like not knowing if you're safe. I worried so much that year I was gone and you were still at Hogwarts. I hated being away from you for so long"
"I hated it too love. That was the worst year of my life. Do you remember when McGonagall caught me sneaking into the Gryffindor Common room that night?"
"That was Hilarious, thankfully she's always had a soft spot for the both of us"

"What's so funny you two?" Cam asks, coming back into the room.

"Zach was reminding me about the time my head of house caught him sneaking into my house's common room after hours. We somehow got away with it."
"Only because Grandma Minnie likes you guys! Auntie Mya told me about that one"
"Did she now? I think I'm going to have to have words with Mya"
"But Dad.., she tells the best stories about the trouble you and Daddy got into"
"Like what?" Cam asks, sitting on the floor alongside the family. Zach had sat up and leant against Harry by this point, with Teddy curled up on his lap. Angela and Jack joined them on the floor, while Booth and Tempe took the chairs to the side.

"Auntie Mya told me about this one time when dad went into a secret chamber to save Auntie Ginny"
"I remember that. I was only a first year at the time. All I remember is some older students gossiping about how this bull-headed second year Gryff has exposed Lockhart as a phony and killed a Basilisk. I thought it was absolute Bull until you told me that story yourself."
"You didn't speak to me for a week after that!"
"Not to mention the werewolf incident! What idiot tries to disarm a bloody werewolf?"
"Hay! Mya punched Malfoy that day. I thought anything was possible"
"I married an idiot" Raising his eyes and hands to the heavens Zach sighs dramatically.
"Well I married a nerd!" Harry sticks his tongue out at his husband, blowing a raspberry.
"And I'm proud of that! And of you" Pecking his husband on the cheek, Zach smiles.
"Aw Babe…" leaning in for a kiss from his husband, Harry grins at the declaration.

"Ew. Dads! Aunt Tempe, they're being gross again" Both men share a look before starting to press kisses over their sons face. "DADS!"

"Oh leave them be Teddy. They're in love. One day you will be too"
"No way Aunt Angie. Boys and Girls have Cooties. I'm happy with my books"
"I'm raising a Ravenclaw! What would the Marauders say?"
"They would be horrified. Now Teddy, how about you show Uncle Seeley what you can do with your hair. He's never seen it before"
"Okay!" Jumping up and heading to stand in front of Booth, Teddy starts to prattle on about how he's learnt to control his transformations and show Booth some cool tricks, like his Candy Cane hair.

Caroline Julian, Lance Sweets and the Deputy Director of the FBI find the group of scientists sat around on the floor listening to a kid tell a story about visiting his family, one which features his dads getting into trouble for a snowball fight with his uncles, when they arrive half an hour later.

Sweets automatically joins them on the floor, introducing himself to the kid and interacting with them all. Caroline and the Deputy Director stand to the side watching the makeshift family interact.

"Well as sweet as this is, who wants to explain why you summoned us? 'Cause I'm it wasn't to watch you play happy families"

"Earlier today the Gravedigger Kidnapped Zach"
"But he's sat right there!"
"I know who the gravedigger is, if that helps. They're a no-maj"
"That narrows it down to ¾ of the population"
"It's why we asked Dr Sweets to bring his pensive. We've bottled the memory a evidence"
"Okay and how did you escape Dr Addy?"
"Emergency Portkey. I've worn one since the War"
"I didn't realise you fought, Zach" Sweets chimes in.
"Front line at Hogwarts. Idiot behind me thought he could convince me to evacuate with the other students under the guise of looking after them"
"I'm sorry but I worry about you! I certainly didn't want you on the front lines with the other side knowing what you meant to me"
"And you knew full well I wasn't about to leave you to fight that, Teddy cover your ears, Bastard, You can uncover them now cub, on your own"
"I wasn't alone, I had Mya and Ron!"
"Don't you argue with me on this Harry"
"Fine. Teddy tell your dad he has to put a dollar in the swear jar when we get home, he said a bad word"
"Daddy…"
"Ganging up on me! Fine. Someone isn't getting story time tonight"
"But Daddy…"
"I was only kidding Ted"
"Awesome. Who are the new people" Having apparently forgotten about the presence of Caroline and the Deputy director both men blush when realising they had witnessed the argument.

"Are you as confused as I am, Miss Julian?"
"Possibly even more so Cheri. Who wants to explain just what we just witnessed. And who are the cuties sitting with the Squint?"
"Sorry, My fault. Zach and I tend to forget ourselves when we argue. Harry Potter, nice to meet you" Harry says standing up and walking over to the two at the door.
"As in THE Harry Potter?" The deputy director asks
"Yes sir. As we said before we lost track of ourselves, the identity of the grave digger has been ascertained. Jack could you take Teddy and show him some slime or bugs or something. I don't want him hearing this"
"No problem. Wanna come see something Gross Little man?"
"Do you have Flesh eating beetles Uncle Jack? Daddy says you guys play with them sometimes. Can we race them?"
"Sure kid!" Taking Teddys hand and leaving the room, Hodgins smiles at the attorney and deputy director, heading for his lab space.

"Now Teddys not in here, Earlier this afternoon the serial Killer known as the Gravedigger attempted to Kidnap Dr Addy. Well she succeeded but did not count on Zach having an emergency Portkey. At roughly half past three I received a voicemail instructing me to pay 250 Million US Dollars to an account in the Cayman Isles or Dr Addy would die. Thinking that my brothers were trying to play a prank on me I thought nothing off it, until my son's school called to tell me no one had come to pick him up. Zach had left the Jeffersonian to pick Teddy up and had not made it further than three blocks. I collected my son and raced here, still thinking at the time that it was a prank by my brothers and that Zach had just gotten caught up with whatever case they were working. Upon arriving here and questioning Dr Brennan, I let her listen to the voicemail, which is when we ascertained that Zach had been kidnapped."

"We called Agent Booth, who came over to help us figure out what to do. It was during his initial conversation with Harry that it was remembered that Zach had an emergency PortKey on him that was connected to a matching one, worn by Harry." Tempe adds, trying to alleviate her friend's burden.
"Zach and I exchanged them during the War before I went on the run, as a way to be able to keep an eye on each other. They function as a tracking charm and Portkey. I activated the failsafe that was built into his and portkeyed him here to the Jeffersonian."
"Dr Addy?"
"This is Accurate. The only reason I was out is Teddy's nanny is out sick, so I offered to pick him up and bring him back to the lab, as Harry had staff meetings this evening. I don't really remember what happened. I had Harry perform Legilimency on me in order to ascertain what had happened. The memory of that is encased in the Vial that Agent Booth holds, ready for viewing."
"And why did Mr Potter get the ransom phone call for you Dr Addy, instead of say a member of your family or your team?" The deputy director asks.
"My Family not spoken to me since I was 16 and informed them that I am gay. Harry and I married a few years ago, in a private Wizarding Ceremony. We use minimal magic in our day to day lives, hence the Gravedigger not knowing about that side of our lives had she been watching us. She would have known that Marisole was ill as she had been off all week. I suspect she was just waiting for an opportune moment in order to strike"

"How can you be so calm about this Cheri?"
"After being tortured by the Carrow twins for refusing to bow down to the dark lord, being kidnapped by a serial killer is nothing."
"You really do surprise me Cheri"
"Thanks Miss Julian"

"Dr Saroyan, can we use your office to view the evidence. Dr Sweets I assume you brought your Pensive?"
"Of course. Caroline, Seeley, Deputy Director. Shall we? Dr Sweets if I could take the Pensive?"
"Here you go. I'm gonna stay and make sure Dr Addy is okay"
"That's not really necessary Sweets, I'm fine"
"Peace of mind yeah?"
"Fine"
