Chapter 51

The last few days of school passed by quickly. Arcturus sent letters to both Hadrian and Draco Malfoy telling them that the right to become the heir to the House of Black will occur July 1st at six in the evening. On the last day, the students received their marks for the end of the year. Their rankings were posted outside the great hall. Third-year roster read:

Hermione Granger

Padma Patil

Lisa Turpin

Tracey Davis

Blaise Zabini

Michael Corner

Susan Bones

Draco Malfoy

Neville Longbottom

Hannah Abbott

Granger had a look of superiority on her face as she was in the first place. With her grades, the W.E.A will certainly let her skip a year, and she could prove that she was smarter than Greengrass. Looking around, she didn't see the blonde-haired girl anywhere; after a few minutes of looking, she turned back to the rankings, where she saw the list for the fourth year. A scowl appeared on her face when she saw that Greengrass was in the first place. It was unfair in Hermione's opinion as she was supposed to be the one who should have been advanced and receive the highest marks. Whirling around, she stomped into the great hall and took a seat at her house table.

While some were satisfied with their grades, others were not. After reviewing the yearly rankings, everyone walked into the great hall and began eating breakfast. Harry was seated between Neville and the female chasers. Throughout breakfast, he ignored everyone else and was deep in thought about what happened a few days ago. His family and the others decided to fill Blaise, Tracey, Nicole, Aaron, and Adrian with what's been going on. Though, Harry neglected to tell them that he was a magus. They were still completely baffled that Severus Snape is his adoptive father and what they have been doing to undermined Dumbledore in any way they could. Harry made sure to have them take a magical vow before leaving to protect himself and the others.

After breakfast, Dumbledore gave his customary end of the year speech and announced that the Slytherins had won the House cup. The House of snakes jeered while most of the lions booed. Ron even commented that they cheated to win the cup and that it belonged to them. Harry internally laughed when he saw the annoyed expression on Dumbledore's face when he announced that the Slytherins' won. He suspected the old headmaster was trying to save what was left of his damaged reputation. But, for a brief moment, the twinkle that was usually in his eyes vanished, and so did his composure. That was enough to make Harry smile. Seeing Dumbledore's distress was therapeutic.

Once he finished, everyone exited the great hall and went to the carriages to be taken to the Hogsmeade station to board the express. When the gang arrived, they found a compartment except Aaron, who wanted to spend some more time talking with Katie. After warding the door shut and reclining in their seats, the train started to move, and they were off. Most of the journey home was relatively nice as they spent time either listening to music, playing exploding snaps, or in Harry and Nicole's case, just being themselves. Nicole was stressing about her potion's N.E.W.T exam as she didn't know if she got the required grade. Harry pulled out his variation of the calming draught from his trunk and gave it to her so she could calm her nerves down. Halfway through the ride, Aaron knocked on the door and was allowed in Nicole, who reapplied the wards.

Aaron talked about how he was in a compartment with Katie, her fellow chasers, the Weasley twins, and Lee Jordan. While the chasers accepted him, the others didn't, mainly Jordan, who sent glares at him every time he and Katie spoke with one another. The twins didn't like him because of how close he was to the girls but stayed quiet about it as Angelina and Alicia were present. Granger, Weasley, and his sister soon came and ruined the good atmosphere when the trio tried to enter the compartment. Hermione being the more intelligent one, tried to undo the wards, but nothing she tried worked. Nicole smirked at the bushy-haired girl's failed attempts, she may have taken ancient runes this year, but Nicole knew more about runes and wards. Because of that, Granger and her friends were forced to leave after a few more failed attempts. Ron tried to use his shoulder to no avail; the only thing he succeeded in was activating the wards, resulting in him getting electrocuted, gaining a rash, and a sore arm.

They eventually arrived at King's cross and dismounted the train to search for their parents/guardians so they could go home. The teens said their goodbyes before leaving with their parents. Harry and Emily were apparated to Potter castle by Lord Black, and the usually grouchy Arcturus Black had a big smile on his face. Opening the door, they walked in and made their way to the living room, where a couple of house-elves came to take their trunks. Pretty soon, they were joined by Sirius, Sarah, Jack, and Cassiopeia. Since they were home, Harry released Byakko and Suzaku from their tattoo forms and went outside to stretch.

Arcturus grunted to bring everyone's attention "Hadrian. Cassie, Sirius, and I need to speak with you, alone," giving a meaningful look to his nephew. That said, they headed toward the Lord's study, leaving Emily and her parents downstairs.

They were walked up the steps to the third floor east wing of the castle and made it to the study. After going in, Harry activated the wards around the room and shut down his link with Emily and Severus. He then took a seat on one of the couches.

"I received your end-of-year results earlier today, and I have to say that you continue to impress," Arcturus began with a smile on his face. "As you know, the selection of who gets to become the heir to the House of Black will happen in two days. First, though, I cannot fathom why you requested that I should give Lucius's spawn a chance. Because as far as I am concerned, you are worthier than him."

"Uncle, your disgusts at the Malfoy is understandable," Harry agreed, "though Lucius may be a two-face weak-willed useless sack of shit. He is still married to Narcissa, who shares the same blood as this family and has passed it to Draco. In complete honesty, the boy is a disappointment to our House as his attitude reflects that of an arrogant child with no guts" he held up a hand as Cassie was about to speak. "However, be that as it may, he is still a member of the House of Black."

Arcturus let out a breath "unfortunately, you are right," that stunned the others as he agreed with him. "As the head of this family, I have rules and traditions to follow even if I don't like them. His parents may spoil that insignificant little brat, but he is still Narcissa's son, and she is my granddaughter," sighing in resolute. The family rules were absolute.

Cassiopeia picked up where he left off "the Tonks will also be in attendance to witness the appointment as much as I wish that Andromeda married a pureblood. But, unfortunately, she is an adult, and Theodore has proven to be… adequate."

Sirius was completely shocked his great aunt acknowledged Andi's husband. Though it may have been in her way, it was still shocking.

"Don't tell them I said that" she warned, giving them a scathing glare to show that she meant it.

"Now onto business," Arcturus said in a serious tone. "Me and King Ragnok have been researching how many of the bastards Horcruxes are still out there. From what we could deduce, he split his soul seven times."

"Why would he split his soul seven times?" Sirius was wondering why the bastard would want to split his soul that much.

"In the magical world, the number seven is the most magical number," his grandfather replied. "As we already know, the cup, diary, diadem, locket, and the one in Hadrian's scar have all been destroyed" his voice was laced with disgust that the murdering bastard accidentally transferred his soul into a member of his family. "That left two unaccounted for, the sooner we find and destroy them. The faster we will be rid of him."

He then turned his head. "Harry, I hate to ask this, but have you been able to view any more of his memories?"

Harry shook his head. "As I said before, I only got bits and pieces."

Arcturus deflated, "it's probably for the best that you don't see any of them. From what Severus told me, that bastard committed numerous violations against the laws of magic, and it makes me uneasy actually to think about what else he's done."

"That said," Cassiopeia chimed in, "we have to shift our concern to the fact that the death eaters have rejoined him" her voice was laced with venom as she didn't like the fact that Bellatrix was one of them. "From here on, we're going to need to stay vigilant as we don't know where they are."

"How do we proceed then" Sirius enquired on their next move. "Somehow, I have a feeling that the worse is yet to come."

"You're not alone, Sirius. You're not alone," Harry said. "Regarding what Trelawny said about them is a cause to be concerned. While I don't put too much trust in Divination, I know when a real problem is on the way."

At Greengrass manor, Cyrus and his family were having dinner in the dining room while his youngest daughter talked about her time at school. Daphne occasionally spoke but chose to remain quiet through it all. "Slytherin also won the House cup," Astoria said happily.

"I bet Dumbledore wasn't too happy with that outcome," Roxanne commented with a smirk on her face."

"He wasn't," Daphne said after finishing her steak. "I think he was hoping for his lions to win. But with things the way they are for him, he wouldn't dare risk upsetting the masses."

Her parents chuckled. Dumbledore's reputation has plummeted for a while now, and he was not looking so popular with the Wizengamot. There have been whispers of Fudge looking for ways to oust him as headmaster. While Cyrus wished to remove both Dumbledore and Fudge from their positions, it was easier said than done as it would take something drastic to remove them.

"Alright, girls, let's see your results," he said. Daphne and Astoria reached into their pockets to pull out their results to give to their father. After accepting them, Cyrus looked over Daphne's grades first and beamed with pride after looking over her grades "that's my girl." He then looked at his youngest daughter's and was pleasantly surprised to see where she ranked in her year "seventh place! Most impressive, Tori. But I thought you were struggling with herbology and transfiguration?"

Astoria had a smile on her face. While it was true that those two were not her best classes, Harry and Emily were kind and patient enough to help her gain a better understanding of them. It shocked even her when she got her grades from Professor Snape "I was, but Harry and Emily were kind enough to help me study."

"Those two are miracle workers," he commented.

Daphne hesitated for a moment but regained her voice. "Daddy, can I ask you for a favor?"

"What kind of favor?" his voice dripped with curiosity at what his oldest wanted.

She took a breath and spoke, "as you know, next year I will be taking my O.W.L exams. So I like your permission to take some subjects that are not taught at Hogwarts?" She saw how his eyes widened along with her mom's.

Cyrus was taken back on her request. She wanted to take some additional subjects for her O. . A small part of him rejoiced at how ambitious she was. However, he remembered what it was like when he took his exams and how draining they were. "Why do you want to take additional exams? Why not stick with the subjects at Hogwarts and be done with them?"

"Because I want to see if I have what it takes to master other forms of magic. The classes at school are subpar, and I want to know more arcane branches of magic rather than what is taught at Hogwarts."

"I don't know, Daphne," he replied in a concerned voice. "While I understand your thirst to prove yourself and the curriculum at Hogwarts has significantly declined. I don't know if you will be able to handle the strain."

"Please, dad," she begged with her eyes shining bright, "I've been self-studying, and I want to see if I have what it takes."

Cyrus melted when he saw the look of determination on her face and looked at Roxanne, who nodded in agreement. "What subjects do you want to take?"

"Dueling, Ritual, and Healing," she said with determination.

He thinned his lips. "I suppose you want to take them at the I.C.W?" She gave him a nod. Then, taking a breath, "your mother and I will discuss it later."

"Thanks, dad."

They resumed conversation throughout dinner, and once they finished with dessert, they were about to exit the dining room.

"Mom," Daphne said, getting Roxanne's attention, "can I talk to you privately?" giving her a meaningful look hoping she would get the point.

"Of course, darling," they walked up the steps to Daphne's room; evidently, Astoria assumed she could participate as well, prompting her sister to turn around. "Not you, Tori! This is only for me and mom to discuss."

"Oh, come on," the little tyke complained. "I want to hear too."

"Sorry, but the last thing I want is for you to eavesdrop on private conversations and to start talking," she said in a final voice.

"Hmph" she folded her arms and went back downstairs, all the while muttering about how she could remain quiet.

When they entered Daphne's room, she flicked her wand out and waved it a few times to close and add some wards on the door to make sure they wouldn't be overheard.

"Alright, Daphne, what do you want to talk about?" Roxanne raised a delicate eyebrow.

She stood in complete silence for a few minutes before swallowing the lump on her throat "when did you start to like dad?" she asked nervously.

Roxanne was taken aback by her daughter's question. "What brought this on?"

"I just want to know when you started to like dad," she defended.

"Mmhm" was all Roxanne said. Then a knowing smile appeared on her face "this wouldn't happen to have anything to do with a certain raven-haired boy, would it?"

Daphne's cheeks turned pink at what her mother said.

"I'm going to take a wild guess and say that this boy has green eyes and a tiger as a white familiar."

"Mom," Daphne groaned in annoyance.

Roxanne chuckled to herself "oh, so it is. So the boy you like is Harry. I've suspected that you've had a thing for him for a while" Daphne took a step back. "I know what you're thinking, and no, your father doesn't know. So how long have you liked Harry?"

"For a while," Daphne replied, albeit a bit embarrassed.

"Then what's the problem?"

Daphne chewed the bottom part of her lip "well, we've grown close at school and have become close friends. It's like I know I like him, but…"

"You don't know if he sees you as girlfriend material" Roxanne finished her sentence, and Daphne nodded. Roxanne began giggling, much to the embarrassment of her daughter. "Daphne, there's nothing to be embarrassed about as I to felt the same way when I met your father."

Together the two sat and talked. Roxanne gave her daughter advice on how to handle her relationship with Harry. She told her to be patient and continue being there for him. Eventually, he'll see her as something more if he hasn't already. And reminded her that she was a Greengrass, and they always get their man in the end.

The days leading to July 1st went by relatively quickly, and Harry was prepared as he was determined to win today. He got up early like usual did his morning workout routine, followed by a shower and then breakfast. After eating breakfast with the family, Emily went to get ready as Luna and Astoria were going to hang out. Luckily, it was Saturday, so that meant Sarah could watch the girls while they went to have fun. A part of Harry felt inclined to call his friends to see if they wanted to hang out, but today was important. So, resigning himself, he went to get ready for the occasion and gather whatever he might need.

Thirty minutes later, he was dressed like a proper heir, gathered everything he might need, and flooed to Black Castle. There he was met by one of the house-elves. Like all the other elves that live at the castle, they had a severe expression "master and mistress favorite descendant young Hadrian has arrived."

"Hello Darwin," Harry greeted him "can you tell me where Lord Black is?"

Darwin, along with his fellow companions, held Hadrian in high esteem for his kindness toward them and because he exhibited traits of all the previous members of his family. "Master be in the study."

"Thank you," nodding to the elf and walked up the stairs. Arriving at the study, he knocked on the door only to receive a cold "come in."

Harry opened the door and found his uncle and aunt standing in front of the fire. Hanging above it was the portrait of his grandmother, who gave him a warm smile "your early," Arcturus commented in a gruff voice. "Good!"

"Uncle," Harry greeted him respectfully.

"I trust you are ready?" Arcturus raised an eyebrow.

"I am. Today's the day!"

"You've grown since the last time I saw you," Dorea commented, bringing everyone's attention to her. "Though, it saddens me that I cannot physically be there. I am proud of the man you are becoming."

A sad smile appeared "grandmother, I promise you that when I am named the head of this family, I will restore the honor we once had."

Arcturus allowed a smile to appear on his face, which was only matched by the look of pride on Cassiopeia's face. She walked forward and placed a hand on his shoulder "today's the day."

"Now we just have to wait for the others'" Arcturus stated before changing his voice to a business one. "Hadrian, remember who you are and your heritage. Show those French bigots why you are the better candidate. Also, I will be very unhappy if you allow Malfoy's spawn to beat you. Clear?"

"Yessir," Harry responded in the same tone.

Arcturus regarded him for a moment before dismissing him.

Harry spent most of his time in the family library in deep meditation, reinforcing his occlumency shields. Once he was done, he went downstairs to see Sirius talking with the Tonks. Dora completed her training and was now a full-fledged Auror, something she was extremely proud of "it was a shame to see old Mad-Eye retire after I graduate. He may have been a crazy bastard, but he understood what it took and made sure I was ready" acknowledging her mentor.

"I hope your occlumency shields have increased, though," Harry said, causing her to turn around.

"Nice to see you to Harry," they hugged and separated, "and yes, my shields have gotten stronger." Her mother was nervous when Lord Black assigned Cassiopeia to teach her the mind arts, for her aunt was not the nicest member of the family. But Harry explained that Dora would need to learn how to shield her mind from others and made sure the woman knew not to go overboard with her lessons. Cassiopeia hated being told what to do, but it was an order from her brother, and she couldn't refuse no matter how much she wanted to.

"So, how is Hogwarts treating you? Got a girlfriend yet?" playfully nudging his shoulder.

"Hogwarts is Hogwarts," he said casually, "and no to the girlfriend thing. Wipe that disappointed grin off your face, you dirty old mutt." Sirius looked affronted at being caught by Harry. Before he could speak, Harry cut him off "the last thing I need is to hear some of your exploits with the opposite sex."

Sirius scoffed at the amused look from the others. His aunt shook her head in disgust. "Well, excuse me for enjoying myself."

One of the house-elves appeared to let them know the Malfoys have arrived. Sirius visibly groaned in disgust. Arcturus directed the elf to let them in, and within the next moment, Lucius, Narcissa, and Draco came in. After exchanging greetings, Narcissa chose to speak with Andromeda, while Lucius went to speak with the other adults. Leaving Hadrian, Draco, and Nymphadora alone.

Twenty-five minutes later, Arcturus and Cassie stood in the middle, and the former let out a cannon fire from his wand to silence everyone. "All rise," he commanded. Everyone stood up while he surveyed the room. "Be seated" they took their seats. "Now you all know why you're here. Today is the day to decide who is worthy of becoming the heir of this family. As stated the last time we gathered, there will be four tests: academics, how you carried the reputation of this House, a duel, and finally, the family's magic will decide. So, heirs Malfoy and Potter, we begin now!"

Two elves appeared behind him and brought a chalkboard with their names on it. Then, waving his hand, he cast a spell on the board "points will be given to the person who wins that round." His grey eyes met Lucius's. "Lord Malfoy, as I understand it, you wish to represent your son in this matter, correct?"

"That is correct, Lord Black," Lucius answered in a business voice.

"Very well!" then his gaze fell to Harry. "Potter, you were given a choice to represent yourself or have the mutt represent you. You chose to do it alone. Is that your final decision?"

"Yessir," Harry replied in a respectful tone.

Arcturus grunted. "Then we will start things off by going over your academics. Class results now" holding his hands out. Both parties gave the aged Lord the transcripts.

"Draco Malfoy, you are first," he said while handing Harry's to Cassiopeia. Draco visibly gulped and paled slightly, for he knew that he was outmatched in at least two areas: academics and dueling. Still, he held hope that he'd become the heir to the House of Black, for it was his birthright.

Arcturus carefully studied the boy's grades. His face remained cold and impassive as he read the reports.

"From what I've read, you're slightly above average," Arcturus began making Draco deflate a bit, "though that doesn't say much as the standards at Hogwarts have fallen. In your last report, it says you secured 8th place in your overall year. However, there is one thing I disagree with," he said in a cold voice that made Draco freeze. "A member of my House taking Divination as an elective is a disgrace. Not even your mother nor your father would take that shit."

Lucius shot his son an agitated look that clearly said they would talk later.

Arcturus continued. "Other than that, your academics are acceptable!"

Draco let out a breath.

He and Cassiopeia swapped reports, and now it was Hadrian's turn. Same as before, Arcturus looked over the reports "this is rather astounding, Hadrian. Your grades are superb, you've passed your O. with distinctions, and your results from this past year are amazing. All through your academic experience thus far, you've been ranked as number 1." Giving him a hard look that would freeze others "it takes a lot to impress me!"

Sirius, Andromeda, and even Narcissa nodded at what he said as they remembered how hard it was to impress him when they were younger.

"The first point goes to Hadrian Potter!" Arcturus declared. A point appeared on Hadrian's side of the board.

"Next round is how you two have carried the name of this House. Who would like to begin first?"

Lucius cringed a bit before speaking up, "I would, Lord Black." Arcturus gave him a curt nod telling him to proceed. "While my son may have completed his third year at Hogwarts, he has managed to gain strong allies and has asserted himself at the top of the pecking order. I have received word from his Head of House Severus Snape that he is first in line to become a prefect." He handed him the letter he got from Severus weeks ago.

"Hmm" Arcturus curled his lips as he read over the letter. "Perhaps your son is not completely worthless after all. I was a prefect and later became Head Boy when I was in school. I will take this into consideration." A ghost of a smile appeared on Lucius's face. "Now tell me about these allies your son has gained!"

Lucius cleared his throat and began explaining how his son had become close with Marcus Flint, Theodore Nott, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, and two members from Hufflepuff, "all of which come from respectable families and hold a lot of influence."

"Those are indeed some impressive allies," Arcturus commented. Lucius thought that he'd won this round but was cut off "however, you've missed a few details. Starting with the fact of Lords Flint and Parkinson stealing from my nephew," gesturing to Hadrian, "and by extension, they stole from me. While I do believe that the other people you've mentioned are from powerful families, it has reached my attention that your son has been involved in a few things at school that are embarrassing and disgraceful."

"If anything has happened at school, then it is unknown to me," Lucius stated, wondering what Lord black was getting at. While it was true that he hardly pay attention to his son's time at school other than his grades, he was positive that nothing bad happened.

Arcturus narrowed his eyes, making them pale, and Narcissa knew when her grandfather was displeased about something, looked positively scared. After all these years, she still found the man to be terrifying. "Then explain why it's reached my attention that your son challenged a blood traitor and muggleborn to a duel in the trophy room and failed to show up."

Draco felt the blood in his body freeze, though he couldn't tell if it came from the power Arcturus was manifesting or the look on his father's face.

The older Lord continued, "and there was the issue with the hippogriff during his first lesson with that goat's little pet. Your son was given clear instructions not to anger the creature and chose to disregard the man's warning. If the creature had killed him, then he wouldn't have ended up on the floor crying like a baby, and then he tried to have the creature killed. By making himself look bad like that, it made my House look weak," he spat.

Hadrian motioned for Aunt Cassie to come closer so he could say something. After a few minutes, her eyes widened considerably. "Lord Black, I believe that Hadrian has something to say about that effect."

Arcturus turned to Hadrian "speak," he commanded.

"Lord Black, I understand your anger at Draco's performance, and while he does deserve to be punished," giving his cousin a look of contempt. "I believe that you are misinformed about a few details."

"Such as?" Arcturus impatiently enquired.

"From what my sister and friends have told me during their first lesson of CoMC, Professor Hagrid brought a group of untrained hippogriffs, mistake number one. Because as a teacher, he should have brought in trained hippogriffs and theirs the fact of him not realizing the dangers of starting a group of third years off creatures like them. His second mistake was that he failed to ask the students to dress appropriately when dealing with creatures of that scale."

Arcturus grunted in agreement before turning back to Lucius's spawn. "Potter is correct! That oaf should have taken the necessary precautions. I will overlook your idiocy this once. Don't let it happen again," he barked.

"And there's something else you and Lord Malfoy need to be aware of" the adults gave him a questioning look which he ignored. "Draco, I believe it's time your father knew what you've been working on during your free time."

Draco suddenly realized what he was getting at and faced his father "a while back, you tasked me with inventorying things we had at home and our other companies."

"I remember," Lucius tersely said.

Draco continued as he asked Hadrian for help as he was unsure of how to handle things. His father was about to berate him as those were classified items; his son held up a hand and explained that Hadrian didn't see anything. Rather, he showed him what to do, "and I found things of great interest to you. Willow, come here."

A tiny elf appeared "there are some black folders with the Malfoy crest on in my room. Bring them to me at once," he ordered though he was terrified. Hopefully, this would be enough to placate his irate father.

The elf popped away, returning a few minutes later with a stack of black folders in her hands. Draco took them, kicked the elf, and sent it on her way. He handed them to his father so he could view them. Lucius spent twenty minutes going over two folders with an angry red face that threatened to turn purple "these are valid?"

"Yes, father," Draco shakingly replied.

Lucius was livid. Someone's been stealing from his house and companies, whirling around to Lord Black. "Lord Black. If you excuse me, I need to handle some matters of great importance" he received a curt nod from him. "Narcissa, I will leave it to your counsel to finish things up today" that he raced out of the castle.

"Now, if there are no more interruptions, we can continue," he said with a hint of finality. "Narcissa, is there anything else you like to add on your son's behalf?" Narcissa's only answer was, "no, sir."

"Potter, it's your turn," gesturing for him to speak.

Harry began by explaining how he managed to show the ruthlessness and pride of his family by showing why it would be a mistake to cross the Potters and Blacks, how he was able to secure alliances between well-known individuals from outside of Magical Britain. The first being the Delacour family. The patriarch was the Head of the Auror department, while the matriarch serves as a representative of the French ministry. Then he spoke about the youngest quidditch player Viktor Krum who rose to become a professional seeker despite still being in school and became an international star. A member of Mr. Oluwusi's team has a significant amount of influence as he is the son of Africa's Minister of Magic. The more he listed individuals who held power and influence both in international and national trade. The more angry and envious Draco became as his cousin was able to do things he couldn't. Unfortunately, things were not going the way he hoped.

He even went as far as to add some of his accomplishments and contributions. "Astonishing," Arcturus said, looking over some of the files the boy had given him. "It looks like I'm going to be up to my neck in meetings. So round two goes to Hadrian Potter," he said in a prideful voice.

Another point appeared under Hadrian's name, much to Hadrian's delight and Draco's ire. "Your next challenge is a duel; you will have fifteen minutes to get dressed and meet in the training room."

Both teens were escorted upstairs to different rooms to change, while the other occupants went to the dueling room. Ten minutes later, they were in the room wearing their different combat uniforms with their family crest on. Draco was angry the Black's Lordship was supposed to be his; there was no way he would allow his cousin to obtain what was rightfully his. Hadrian, on the other hand, had an unreadable expression, though his eyes burned bright green.

Arcturus activated the wards around the room before turning to both the combatants. "This will be a duel of skill and honor. The duel will only end when either opponent is no longer able to duel any longer. No killing and magic is the only thing you can use. Is this clear?"

"Yessir!" they assumed their respective stances. Harry's was a blend of offensive and defensive capabilities, something that he'd never shown around his cousin before. Draco's stance resembled that of his father's. Harry learned from his dad's memories of how Lucius dueled in the past, unlike the other death eater. Lucius's combat style emphasized elegance and more refined techniques. So, it came as no surprise that his son assumed the same style as him, even copying his stance.

"At the sound of a cannon fire, you may begin." Arcturus looked at the both of them for a moment, then let out a cannon fire from his wand.

Draco immediately shouted "reducto," and the spell left his wand. Harry sidestepped to avoid the spell. However, Draco didn't let up as he began shouting and releasing spells from his wand, even some of the spells from his family grimoire.

Harry had to grudgingly admit that Draco's spells were formidable, but they lacked power mainly because Draco lacked the power to them. Harry didn't bother putting up a shield preferring to dodge until he caught the last spell with his wand and threw it back, followed by two bone-shattering curses and a blasting spell. Draco put up a shield to protect himself. His shield was enough to block the first two spells but was destroyed when the blasting curse made contact.

The bored look on Hadrian's face made Draco even angry it was as if he didn't find him a challenge. He roared and used the most powerful spell he learned from his father. A red and yellow ball left his wand with great speed. Harry batted the spell away like it was nothing and retaliated with a barrage of different mid-level spells. Draco found himself on the defensive, Harry's plan as his cousin's technique resembled that of a muggle fencer. Their combat skills were powerful and based on precision. That said, they wouldn't do much against someone who used overwhelming force. Harry quickly exploited the weakness as he continued to bash through his cousin's defenses until he disarmed and bound him in chains.

Draco was now chained to the ground, heavily panting with a couple of broken bones and smoking. Harry ran his fingers through his hair with a look of boredom on his face. Then, shaking his head in disappointment, "I have to say, Draco, that I'm quite embarrassed by your performance, I'll admit. A small part of me thought you would have at least put up a fight, what with all the bragging you do at school."

"The winner is Hadrian Potter," Arcturus declared. Narcissa removed the chains from her son, fixed his broken bones, and worked on healing his burns.

"Narcissa," Arcturus said, getting her attention after giving Draco's wand back to him. "You have twenty minutes to prepare your son for the final test. Cassiopeia, come with me" they left the room.

Harry went to take a seat next to a gapping Nymphadora. He clapped his hands, bringing her out of her shocked state "where did you learn how to do that?"

"I trained," he shrugged his shoulders "besides, it wasn't anything fancy as I was using a small fraction of my skills."

"You are so teaching me how to duel like that," she said.

Harry smirked at her "tell you what. I'll send you some recordings that way. After that, you can practice on your own. I might be able to convince Aunt Cassie to train you!"

"How much power were you using?" Andromeda asked as she too was amazed by how skilled the boy was.

Harry tilted his head a bit "about 15 to 20 percent," he said casually. The others could only stare at him with amazement and disbelief. Andromeda and Narcissa looked at each other like they were sharing a silent conversation. The boy in front of them was something else. The sisters visibly cringed as they saw younger versions of their grandfather and late uncle. Those two were a fearsome team, and those that crossed them were either dead or wishing they were.

Sirius, on the other hand, beamed with pride at his godson. He knew the boy would be powerful from when he was a baby but never expected this. Hell, Harry's magic level was greater than his and James when they were his age.

Twenty minutes later, Arcturus and Cassiopeia returned a silver basin with the Black family crest and a crystal-encrusted dagger. Sirius, Narcissa, and Andromeda recognized the dagger as it was given to the family's heir.

"We begin with the final test," Arcturus said. "To prove who is worthy of becoming my heir, you will have to place your hand on the basin and declare your right. If the magic accepts you, then you will become my heir. However, if you are not accepted, then you will be painfully ejected from this room." He and Cassiopeia prepared the basin and motioned for Draco to come forward.

Draco placed his hand on the basin. "I, Draco Lucius Malfoy son of Narcissa Cassandra Malfoy nee Black hereby claim the heirship of the House of Black. So mote it be." Almost immediately, the Blacks family magic enveloped him, and a second later, he was screaming and thrown out of the room, twitching in pain. Narcissa immediately rushed over to help her son. Some of the house-elves popped next to her and levitated the boy to the medical wing for treatment. The Black family magic was not something that people should underestimate as it was not given. It was earned.

While Narcissa left with the elves, Harry stepped forward and placed his hand on the basin. "I, Hadrian James Potter grandson of Dorea Alexia Potter nee Black and godson of Sirius Orion Black hereby claim the heirship of the House of Black. So mote it be." Same as before, he was enveloped in the Blacks family magic, and after a moment, it declared him to be worthy, and the ring appeared on the ring finger of his left hand. "Toujours Pur" saying the family motto.

Arcturus, Cassiopeia, Sirius, and Andromeda smiled; the former declared, "it has been decided. You, Hadrian James Potter, are now my heir and therefore have earned our family's ancestral dagger," grabbing it from his sister. "This blade has been in our family since the beginning and has been passed through the ages. Therefore, as the Head of this family, I hereby bestow this blade to you."

Hadrian accepted the blade; admiring its craftsmanship, on the bottom of the blade was a black raven. "Thank you, Lord Black. I will do everything in my power to be worthy of this blade."

"It is done!" Then, Arcturus turned to Cassiopeia, "tell Narcissa and her spawn to be in the dining room for dinner."

Cassiopeia swept out of the room to inform her niece and nephew. At the same time, the others went to the dining room for dinner.

Halfway through dinner, Narcissa and Draco joined them. Draco looked like he had seen better days as he was now pale as a ghost. Narcissa spied the Blacks family ring on Hadrian's left hand, which showed that he was now the heir to the House of Black. If she could be honest, the boy deserved it more than Draco ever did. Her son was heavily spoiled, not to mention quite arrogant, with little to no ambition or cunning.

Dinner was mostly a solemn affair. Narcissa chose to only speak with her sister, while Draco shot hateful glances at Harry. The blonde boy cursed why Potter was chosen and not him as he was the rightful heir to the throne. When dinner ended, Narcissa bid her family goodnight and dragged Draco out of the castle before he could say something stupid. Andromeda, Ted, and Nymphadora were the next to leave. The latter told Sirius to be good to Bonesy before leaving.

"Well done, Hadrian," Cassiopeia praised, "you are now the heir to this family. Not that there was any doubt in my mind."

Harry beamed at the praise he got from his aunt. "Failure was not an option."

Arcturus barked out laughing. "I can now rest easy knowing that my family will not be in the hands of Lucius Malfoy."

Harry got up "if you excused me, I would like to return home for the night?" Arcturus gave him a curt nod, and he left the room to use the floo network.

The day after Harry obtained the heirship of the House of Black, the young raven-haired boy spent most of his time in the lab working on his current project, though he refused to say what he was working on. If not that, then he would start practicing wandless magic. As expected, the process was incredibly difficult and very taxing. Like nonverbal casting, they're three different levels: novice, moderate, and advanced. Severus and Arcturus were happy to go over the basics and even correct him on a couple of occasions. However, the two adults were familiar with the level and were skeptical when he first asked for them to teach him. But after discussing the dangers and why it was important for him to remain focused, they relent somewhat. After that, Harry could learn how to do wandless magic only under their supervision or if Byakko and Suzaku agreed to watch him.

He remained dedicated to his training when it came to martial magic. His uncle and current dueling teacher would always come over to the castle and train him. Finally, two days later, Miwa and her parents came, and the teens were happy to see one another again. She even burst out laughing when he told her what happened when he dueled Draco for the right to become heir. When he mentioned how he began learning wandless magic from his family, Miwa immediately jumped in the air and asked if she could learn. Harry told her that she would need to speak with her parents for permission.

True to his promise to Dora, Harry indeed talked with his aunt to see if she could train her. Cassie being the person she was, refused to do it at first, but after hours of negotiations, she conceded. However, Andromeda still had reservations about her aunt as she remembered her to be very strict when it came to teachings. Finally, Cassie explained the conversation she had with her nephew, and the two compromised. With that, Dora's real training began.

Time eventually flew by quickly, and it was now time for Sirius and Amelia's wedding at Bones Manor. The decorations for the wedding were amazing, and everything was in place; Sirius was in his dressing room putting on the finishing touches for his tuxedo. Harry and Remus found it amusing how jittery he was; the latter was made Sirius's best man, while Susan was named the maid of honor for her aunt. "Oi Padfoot, try this this" Harry pulled out a vial of calming draught and gave it to soothe his nerves.

Sirius took the potion and downed the contents, much to the amusement of the others "keep laughing, you two, because will be either of you in a few years."

"You mean almost fainting?" Hadrian jokingly asked. That question earned him a mock glare "be glad it's me here and not your grandfather, cause he probably say shape up you worthless mutt and grow a pair of balls, or you will wish you've never been born," making his impression of Lord Black.

A soft chuckle escaped Sirius's lips "that is something he'd say to me."

"Your damn right I would" the voice of Arcturus was heard on the opposite side of the door. The moment it opened, Arcturus closed the door behind him as he walked in, surveying the others and examining Sirius's attire "glad to see that you're dressed like a proper member of the House of Black. Though I wish you trim your mustache."

"We can't always get what we want," Sirius casually said.

Arcturus ignored what he said. "Amelia Bones is a strong woman; you will treat her with respect, or you will answer to me," giving him a finishing glare before turning to leave. Before stepping out of the room, he turned his head. "I'm proud of you, Sirius" with that, he left the room.

Sirius was dumbstruck by what his grandfather said as he never got a compliment like that from him before. However, he was brought back to reality when Remus clapped his hands together "according to my watch, you need to leave now." If it weren't for the calming draught in his system, then Sirius would start panicking. But, instead, the three left the room and walked to the altar in the garden. Harry took a seat next to Emily and a disguised Severus. Remus, on the other hand, stood next to Sirius and whispered calming words to him.

The guest who showed up were from the hierarchy and had a lot of political influence. Lords, Ladies, and their heirs from the prominent families were present along with a few members from the I.C.W. Arcturus, and Cassiopeia made sure that Albus Dumbledore, Rita Skeeter, and Delores Umbridge would not spoil the occasion much to their annoyances. As they were well-known individuals who were barred from attending, people would know that things were not alright between them and the Blacks.

A moment later, the bridal march began once everyone was seated. Up at the podium, Sirius saw Amelia in her beautiful white wedding dress and being escorted by her father. Amelia may have been the Head of the Law Enforcement for Magical Britain, but that was not the case today as she looked like a woman who was about to be married to the man she loved. Sirius had a big smile on his face and mouthed, 'I love you to Amelia, who said the same. When they reached the alter, Sirius shook her father's hand and took hers in his arms.

After they said their vows, Cornelius declared them bonded for life and announced them as Mr. and Mrs. Black. Everyone clapped, and flashes of camera light captured the newlyweds; Sirius escorted his new wife inside the manor to the enlarged formal dining, followed by the others. There were multiple round tables with beautiful lanterns and candles lit. Sirius and Amelia took their seats at the head table while everyone else to their seats at the round tables. Fudge called Remus Lupin to say a few things, and Sirius could tell that he had a lot to say. First, Lupin spoke about their time at Hogwarts. Then it was Arcturus's turn, and to everybody's surprise, he offered congratulations to his grandson and his wife.

Then the music started playing, and Sirius and Amelia had the honor of having the first dance. Soon everyone else decided to join in. Harry danced with a multitude of people from school, a few he loathed but had no choice. Arcturus and Cassiopeia would kill him if he didn't behave like a proper heir. The Vaisey's offered their congratulations and what was surprising to most was that the Bells were invited. Aaron and Katie danced to a few songs and seemed to enjoy each other's company. Neville came with his parents and invited Luna and her father. While Harry moved to find his next partner, he discreetly glanced at the Malfoys, more notably Draco. He saw that the boy was having a hard time sitting comfortably in his chair, evidently from being punished by his father for failing to obtain the heirship to the Black family. His eyes soon fell on Daphne, who looked breathtaking in her dress.

Spending the next three songs dancing with her, they decided to go rest for a bit. Harry said he get them both a drink and left to grab some glasses of butterbeer for them. Daphne watched as Harry navigated through the crowd to get them a few drinks. She spent most of the reception trying to avoid some of the other heirs as they tried to get close to her. Daphne was currently talking with Nicole, Tracey, Lilith, Astoria, Emily, and Miwa. That was until Harry returned with her glass of butterbeer. "Thank you, Harry," accepting the glass as he left to speak with Aaron, Adrian, Blaise, and Neville. Then, she felt someone tap her shoulder.

Turning her head, she saw it was Miwa "can we talk privately?"

Daphne regarded her for a moment before taking a swig out of her glass and giving her a nod. Miwa led her outside away from the others and flicked her wand out to cast some privacy wards.

"So what did you want to talk about?" she was ready to flick her wand from its holster.

"Easy Greengrass, I didn't bring you out here to fight," Miwa said after noticing how uneasy the girl was. "I merely wanted to call a truce with you."

Daphne raised a questioning eyebrow, wondering what her intentions were. "Why would you want to call a truce between us?"

"Despite how different you and I are, we're not that different from each other," Miwa explained. "For one, we're both elementals and more powerful than our fellow peers at school. We might not have to be best friends, but we can agree on a few things."

"Such as?"

Miwa let out a breath and said the one thing she knew the girl would agree to "we both care for Hadrian. You've known him since you were eleven, me since I was seven. And if I were to make an accurate guess. I say you like him." She wanted to see how Greengrass would react.

Daphne thinned her lips "well, of course, I like him. He's one of my closest friends," she said as a matter of fact.

"Mmhm" Miwa shook her head in disbelief. "How about you say what you mean," she suggested, "because it's pretty obvious that you fancy him as something more. Given by the way you look at him." She smirked when Greengrass's cheeks went pink 'looks like Emily was correct, and Greengrass does have a thing for him' making a mental note to talk with her later.

An idea suddenly formed in her head "you should know that you're not the only one that cares for him," pointing out a fact. "I am willing to make a deal with you?"

Daphne's eyes went wide "a deal? What kind?"

An evil smile appeared on Miwa's face "since it's only him and two of us. We should let him decide! I'll give you until August 1st next year to be his girlfriend. However, if you're unable to succeed, then I will start making advances on him" she could see that she had Greengrass's undivided attention.

"So let me get this straight here," Daphne began, "your giving me a year and a few weeks to become his girlfriend. If I am unable to accomplish that goal, then you'll step in. Fine then, so that you know, I don't intend on losing" the determination was clear in her voice.

"That's good! I like a little competition," Miwa stated. 'Perfect, now I will get to see if she is serious and truly wants to be with him,' she thought to herself. "Also, there will be no hard feelings should one succeed and the other fail. Deal?" holding her hand out.

"Deal" Daphne shook her hand.

Miwa then removed the ward, and they went back inside. Daphne went to sit with her parents while Miwa left to speak with Emily. Pulling the little girl to the side, she explained the chat she and Daphne had and the deal they made. When she was done, they started laughing "she honestly thought I was interested in Harry that way. Please, he's like my brother."

Emily then added, "now, all we have to do is wait and see which one of them makes the first move."

"True, but Harry has to stop being so dense and ask her out," Miwa said. Harry was good at many things, but when it came to things about the opposite sex, he could be pretty clueless.

The reception continued till after eleven, with the last of the guest finally vacated the premises. Harry was motioned to follow his uncle and disguised father to the floo network to head to Black's Castle. After arriving at the castle, they stepped out one by one and maneuvered over to the couches.

"That was a nice wedding," Harry said

"I'm surprised that he didn't do anything stupid or immature," Arcturus said. "It looks like there's another reason to make him grow up" he let out a breath from the corner of his mouth.

Severus, on the other hand, grunted in amusement as the charm wore off.

Harry's expression instantly changed into something serious "did you have time to look over the list I gave you?"

Arcturus began chuckling. "I did! I still can't believe you got all that information from Malfoy's spawn. Most of the contrabands in his possession are illegal and hard to come by."

"How do you want to proceed?"

Black shrugged his shoulders "for the time nothing, Malfoy is currently at the bottom on the priority list. We have other issues to worry about first."

"You mean the Dark Lord," Severus said.

Arcturus gave him a curt nod. "Any information about his previous life and his Horcruxes is scarce. Alex and Jack have been trying to find information about him but have turned up with nothing. Fucking bastard may have been a murdering sociopath, but he was also thorough when it came to erasing any information about him. I even checked at the orphanage he lived at. Nothing!"

Severus knew it wouldn't be easy to find information about the Dark Lord, but he at least hoped they have some success, "so what your saying is that you hit a dead in," cringing in annoyance.

Harry clicked his tongue. "How can this be? Someone has to know something," sighing in irritation at their minimum success. Then, thinking for a few minutes, he immediately got an idea "did his mother have any other relatives?"

"Hard to say," Arcturus started. "I might have to consult Ragnok, RipClaw, and Griphook, but even then, that will be a chore for them as they wouldn't know where to start. The only thing we know about his family lineage is that he is a descendant of Salazar and that his mother was a witch. We don't even know her maiden name."

"Harry, you haven't seen any of his previous memories, have you?"

"Harry shook his head.

Seeing that they weren't going to get anywhere tonight, Arcturus decided that it was time for them to retire for the night. "Remember that you and your friends are heading for Japan after breakfast tomorrow!" he said before Harry could floo out of the castle.

"I know!" was all he said before flooing back to Potter Castle with Severus.

A/N: Book 3 ended, and the Slytherins won the House Cup at the end of the year. Harry and Draco competed for the right to become the heir to the House of Black. It was pretty obvious that Harry was worthier than his cousin; even Narcissa agreed that her son wasn't ready. Sirius and Amelia are now married and are going to Hawaii for their honeymoon. Miwa and Daphne made a deal with each other, though it's just a ruse to see if Daphne is worthy of becoming Harry's girlfriend.

As I said in my last chapter, I have plans to shake things up in Book 4. Some will be good others will be bad!
