Hey guys, now I said so on my OEG story that I was making a Prototype Fanfiction. And in OEK I said that its not good to do too many stories at one time. However, I had the urge to release this piece and I couldn't stop it. So here you ho, the prologue to my Prototype fanfic. Its actually based off another one I made, just a remastered version as the original didn't meet my present standards. In this one, I won't be doing what many writers do in the Prototype franchise and disregard Prototype 2. In fact, the plot centers around that game's story. I know it wasn't as good as the first one, but I do think there is potential to improve there. So, I will be doing just that, something I have't seen done much in the Prototype fanbase, which is a little disappointing.
Therefore, lets start the prologue, shall we?

(Play Prototype 2 OST - Resurrection)
How long had it been?
That's what a young male of 15 thought to himself as he kneeled on top of a building in the now named 'Yellow Zone' of New York Zero, or 'NYZ' as THAT GROUP had called it. How long had it been since everything changed, when everything was once per-well, not perfect per say but at least it was better than what was going on right now. Ever had any of those 'oh shit' moments? Well NYZ was currently at this moment in time having the biggest oh shit moment in its entire History.
The Yellow Zone was actually an island of its own, close to New York, once being called Brooklyn but now it was a shell of its former self. It was a place full of refugees and civilians who had to be put here because there was a large chance that they were already 'afflicted' by the very thing that started all this mess. The Yellow Zone was monitored closely by the US Military and Blackwatch, a formerly secret government organization that came to light 14 months ago when this same 'affliction' had been released onto Manhattan island once before.
However, the affliction back then and now are completely different in terms of activity. While it had been fast spreading before, nearly taking over the entire island in just only a week, this time it was brutal, quick and deadly. It overtook Manhattan island within a couple hours and turned it into a monstrous nightmare.
The Yellow Zone had pockets of infection that were slowly growing in number. Worse still, there was a significant amount of poverty due to the Quarantine, the necessary medicines and supplies only arriving in small pockets every day or so, and even then people would fight like rabid dogs to get a small fraction of them, leaving others to die horrible deaths, men, women, children. Death and decay was everywhere. It didn't help that there was an overly large number of civilians that were shoved into this hellhole by Blackwatch, leading to over-crowding that led to easy spreading of the infliction.
Even now, it was trying to spread within the Green Zone, the only safe haven that still exists. It was still retaining a sense of normalcy that was long desired by the people, even though it hadn't been that long since the outbreak began. Arguably, the Green Zone was the safest place to be, however few people compared to the past lived there now.
And as for the last Zone, the Red Zone, that was the solely hellish place to be at the moment, where the affliction thrives and continues to grow at an astonishing rate. Monsters and infected were being made there by it, as long as there was something to infect the affliction could spawn countless infected. Worse, the creatures being birthed there by the virus were stronger than the ones that had been documented, much more savage and versatile in their forms and abilities. It made the Red Zone the religious definition of 'hell on Earth'. But that wasn't the affliction's full power, no… not even close.
"My name is Adam… Johnson…" the male mumbled to himself, he had done that a lot recently, and for good reason, as he looked down at the streets to see a group of armed men in dark blue uniforms and gas masks, armed with rifles while 2 had rocket launchers, patrol the streets for signs of infected attack. "I know the reason for all of this. They call me a killer, a monster, a terrorist… but in truth I am all of these things…"
The male, Adam, stood up slowly from his former position. He checked to see if the coast was clear, and when he saw that the patrol was far away enough that they wouldn't spot him, and like a man committing suicide he put out a foot and hopped off the ledge. He fell down like a missile, and didn't take long to impact with the ground to create a giant THUNK like sound.
Now, normally people would be turned to mush by that kind of fall. it was from a 5 story building, so it was quite a height. The impact alone made a crater in the ground while any vehicles and movable debris was thrown aside. However, he was BEYOND normal, as proven as he only kneeled at the brink of impact, slowly getting to his feet while not suffering any injury at all.
Looking to where the patrol had been too, Adam stayed standing in that crater for a few moments, before dashing off in the opposite direction. His speed was beyond human, with green trails flowing behind him. Any debris or vehicles in his way he either knocked to the side or flipped on over with an amazing parkour skill.
"2 months ago, the infliction that once plagued NYZ 14 months ago, but was mysteriously defeated, was once again released from an unknown location. It took over Manhattan island in record time, almost instantaneously, and will soon take over this Zone if Blackwatch and the US Military don't do anything about it. That's where I come in."
Adam saw a nearby Blackwatch vehicle checkpoint, so he quickly twisted his body, and turned the corner before that checkpoint, not losing any speed in the slightest, and continued on. He saw an overturned car, and jumped off it like a springboard, landing on a wall. Without wasting a beat, Adam defied physics and physically RAN up the side, dark green Tendrils made out of organic matter rippling across his feet as he ran up the building.
He finally got to the top after a few minutes of running, so he flipped up onto the ledge of it and landed on the ledge with the grace of a dancer. Standing up, Adam looked around, and he knew that THEY had been here. The reason he thought this was because there was a carcass of one of them, half an upper body, no arms and no head, lying here unchecked. If it were to stay here it would cause the infection to spread quicker, not if he could help it though.
Walking over to the carcass, Adam frowned as his green eyes slowly took on a green glow, a hauntingly clear reminder of what he had become. Dark green Tendrils rippled over his body, before lots of them exploded out of him and lunged towards the Carcass like hungry wolves. They slowly wrapped around it, sounds of bones cracking and flesh being torn as they dug deep into it, before they pulled the carcass towards him and into his chest area.
He could feel a rush of energy flowing through him the moment that it was absorbed into his chest, but knew that it was really just him gaining more Biomass from the 'consumption' he just did.
"My family and I were from Britain, and we had come here on a Vacation, as well as to see my adoptive Grandfather Louise Guerra, a former military man who fought in a war in Afghanistan before becoming a Priest at a Church in the Yellow Zone. However… I am here, in this situation. I had pleaded with my family not to go here, my instincts, honed from my past… experiences, told me something was wrong. But they didn't listen, and… now they paid the price."
The boy's instincts sensed danger, and he soon eard a pair of roars come his way. The male let out a small frown as he heard the roars, mumbling incoherently under his breath as 2 large muscular gorilla like creatures with dog like heads, metallic claws and rotten teeth landed on the rooftop side, opposite each other. They had been drawn here by the smell of the Carcass being consumed by the male, but that was intentional, for Adam was EQUALLY hungry.
Hungry for blood.
He soon stepped back as the creatures lunged at him, ending up crashing into each other and falling to the ground in a heap. They were down and so he used his power, no, the afflictions power, to grab a large ventilation shaft close to him with one hand, ripping it off its box like imprint into the rooftop, and hurled it at one.
The monster was hit in the face, being sent tumbling to the edge of the rooftop, but not over it as the boy had intended. He wanted the fewest casualties as possible, he didn't want to cause a massacre when he could have equally prevented it. The other monster had already regained its bearings and had chucked a piece of the rooftop at him.
Adam however, had anticipated this and caught it in one hand, using it like a Disk to slash at the monster when it had gotten close for a few claw attacks, stumbling back as the concrete projectile smashed against its head. The various pieces of it were stuck into its body by the male, and he quickly dished out a vicious snap kick to the jaw, sending it tumbling back.
His first opponent then charged at him from the side, thinking that he had left it unguarded. However, the boy gave it a mere second long glance before reaching out and grabbing it by the top of its head, slamming it into the ground beside it and stomping on its head.
The creature of course, died with that blow.
Dark green Tendrils came out, and since this time it was a larger prey they were going to pull in they quickly wrapped around the waist of it, more Tendrils digging into its skin for a secure hold, and then they pulled it in for consumption. More Biomass flowed into him through the consumption of that monster, but the real reason for this was so that he could prevent the infection from spreading further than it already had.
That was the aim for every consumption of infected that he had done in his time being… this.
Once that was done, Adam looked to the last infected, and saw it was attempting to escape the male, now realizing that it stood no chance against him with only it and no backup. However, the male dashed forward and in a burst of speed, the human eye only seeing him like a blur, he had grabbed the Infected by the back of its right hind leg, spinning around and slamming it down the rooftop.
It had roared in anger at this, kicking him off it while rolling back to gain some distance.
Sliding to a halt, Adam stood up straight and saw that the creature was coming quickly towards him, so he put more Biomass into his arms and legs, the reason soon becoming apparent when he caught the monster's charge by placing his hands on its shoulders, his stronger bulk despite being a human in form being more than enough to overpower it.
This time however, while the creature tried to bite him he just kneed it in the face and did a spinning side kick to the lower jaw, severing it completely. The monster roared in pain at this damage while 2 Tendrils came out of his right side and grabbed the piece of the jaw before bringing it in for consumption. Not even the slightest trace of infected flesh would make it from this battle, not on his watch.
Now that it was distracted by its now lacking of a lower jaw, Adam delivered a punch to its face, knocking it back onto the ground with its chest in the air. He then stood over it, like a predator claiming dominance over another, before raising his leg and stomping down on its face with his foot. Tendrils came out and he consumed the creature, its Biomass entering him all the while.
Once the process had finished, Adam stood straight and looked at the Helicopters at a base in the distance. It was a Blackwatch base, one that he was staying away from till the time would come where he would be able to eliminate their presence in the Yellow Zone once and for all.
With a scoff, the male turned in the opposite direction and did a mighty leap into the air. His legs had been rippling with Tendrils that entire time too, which was the side effect of his Biomass readying itself to enhance his leaping potential. He had been a geek like person for as long as he could remember, especially when it came to biology. Adam had already discovered the limits of what he could do just moments after he had found out his life had been irreversibly changed for the worse.
And what a horror that was…
"This all started with Blackwatch and their corporate ally Gentek, of that I am certain. Details of the first outbreak were vague and kept mostly hidden from public knowledge. There were even reports back then of politicians mysteriously 'disappearing' whenever they were going to make an announcement about the Outbreak 14 months ago. At first, I knew something was wrong. Unlike the majority of the masses, I was cautious about every political official, I'd seen how people wear 'Masks' to hide their true intentions. However, I never had any solid evidence of this. But now, I've seen some of their… darker activities conducted supposedly in 'secret' and have long since realised that my suspicions may be on to something. The world may not know that there's a dark mystery about those guys, but I sure as hell do. And through ANY means necessary I will discover what has been going on behind the scenes and expose Blackwatch and Gentek and their wrongdoings to the public. It's the least I can do…"
The boy then landed on another nearby building, one where he could overlook a park filled with people, mostly families and their loved ones. This was one of the few places where the civilians would do their best to try and enjoy what little they could of this cruel, dark, wretched existence.
As he watched them, the children playing in happiness while parents would watch, he could tell even if they had white surgeon masks on that they were smiling, Adam gave a small smile to himself, Tendrils rippling as he jumped off to another area.
"The people of this world need to know the truth of what's been going on here. Of that I am certain. Countless innocents have been disappearing lately, and back then I would have had little means to investigate why. But now I have this… 'affliction' in me, and it gives me the strength to move forwards, to protect the innocent and punish the Guilty. Even now, I'm not sure whether I can call it an 'affliction' anymore, as this… thing running through my veins has powers that no other affliction has ever demonstrated in any biology book, more power than the greatest of plagues. I bet the Black Death of the 16th century can't hold a candle to this power. If this affliction was this powerful in just one host, what of the entire Red Zone…?"
Soon, Adam landed on top of a building that overlooked a Blackwatch Checkpoint, one that allowed access to the Green Zone. He could see a group of people being tested for signs of infection, and when one of them set the detectors off, the civilian quickly bolted, fearing what they were going to do with him once they caught him.
But they didn't give chase to the civilian, oh no they did something else. All of the Blackwatch soldiers by the checkpoint aimed their rifles at the man's back and opened fire, gunning him down without a second thought.
Several people cried out for him in either shock, horror, sadness or a mix of them all, probably his family, and they were gunned down mercilessly as well with no regards for rules or regulations. It was likely they were even uninfected by the affliction that they were all fighting against, but they were gunned down anyways just for seeing one of their own killed.
A pack of savages could describe Blackwatch well.
"I will expose Blackwatch. I will expose Gentek. And the thousands of innocents they have killed will be avenged. This is what I swore the moment I had first contact with them after… what happened. At one time, I was merely a child, someone with severe 'issues' that nobody knew about, nobody but my father and a select few. They are all likely dead as well if my analysis of Blackwatch is accurate, they were all part of something, although I never found out what. But now, I have become something else. Something that will become anything it wants and change everything it wants to change. Now, I hunt… I kill… I consume… I become… I'm going to find out who the hell made all this possible, and I'm going to make them pay."
(OST end)
Chapter end
Here you go, the prologue is done! Not as long as my other stories, only over 3K words, but it'll be a nice change from the long winded stuff I'm known for. Also, the next few uploads will vary in length so make sure to prepare yourself for that. Also, unlike OEG I won't be updating as fast as I did then, so people have a chance to familiarize themselves with the story's content. Plus, it'll give people a chance to review each chapter, its kind of exciting to be honest.
