Cheater:

Ada Odinsdottir paced the floor of the kitchen, chewing at her thumb as she did so. Her two best friends sat on the countertops behind her, watching her with worried eyes, and her brother stood in the doorway, also watching her worriedly.

"What if-"

"Ada, he'll be fine. He'll be home soon and this will all be over"

It was Nat who had spoken, her facial expression not matching her comforting words, clearly not believing anything she said. Taking one look at her friend, Ada shook her head before continuing to pace, her eyes welling up with suppressed emotions.

She had been suspecting something for a while and tonight would be the night she found out if she was correct or not.

Allfather, she hoped she was wrong.

The clocks in the compound were going crazy, the numbers flashing on and off and the hands flying around in constant circles. All of them were affected by her current state of mind. It was a downfall of being the Goddess of Time - everyone knew when your emotions were going haywire.

"What's the time? I have to be home by midnight but all the clocks are going mental."

The calm voice cut through her worried mind and Ada looked over to see Clint standing in the doorway. Thor must have moved to sit at the table while she was pacing and was now digging into his second packet of Monster Munch - Roast Beef, of course. She didn't know how he could eat right now but nothing could keep her brother from his food, no matter the situation. When Loki had first 'died', he had gone and eaten a whole 6-course banquet while she had cried in her room. It's how he dealt with emotions.

"Sorry, Clint. It's 10:52 - I'm sure you could make it in the Quinjet."

"It's ok, I don't mind. Laura has a soft spot for you so she'll let me off if I'm late. Hey, don't you worry about it, ok? He'll show up, I know it, and then you can tell him off for causing you so much stress"

Nodding absentmindedly, Ada barely noticed the small pat Clint gave her as he left the room, continuing with her frantic pacing. Her fingers bent at weird angles as she wrung her hands aggressively, not even realising she was doing it. With every passing second, she grew more and more pissed off. Her worry and sadness were almost burnt out, having been completely taken over by her anger.

How could he forget about her birthday? She had just turned 21, for goodness sake. Sure, as an Asgardian, she was a lot older than that but, when she first arrived, Bruce had calculated how old she was in Midgardian years and it helped her feel like she belonged.

Wanda and Nat had told her that a 21st birthday was a pretty big deal in America and Tony had even held a huge party just for her. She had had a blast, trying all of the Midgard alcohols for the first time, without getting drunk of course, and dancing with Wanda and Nat as well as the rest of the Avengers.

The party had started at lunchtime and was meant to go on well into the night but then Steve hadn't arrived and she had grown worried. In the end, Tony had stopped the party and made everyone go home. Despite her worry, Ada had been sorry to see the party end. She couldn't wait for the next one.

4 hours after the party had officially ended and still no sign of Steve. To ease her nerves, Tony had even put on his suit and gone out to scout the city for any sign of him.

Now, an hour after Tony had gone to look for her missing boyfriend, tiredness washed over Ada, the dancing from the party finally hitting her. Running her tongue over her teeth, she walked over to where Wanda and Nat were sat, hoisting herself up to sit next to them. Closing her eyes, she allowed herself a small amount of peace as she leant into Wanda, resting her head on her friend's shoulder, arms around each other.

Only Nat spotted Wanda's light blush.

Suddenly, the peaceful quiet of the compound was broken by the sound of mental clunking and machines whirring. Tony had finally come back.

Completely awake, Y/N jumped off the countertop and ran out of the kitchen, Wanda, Nat and Thor not far behind. It didn't take long for them to find him, meeting each other halfway, All it took was a sympathetic shake of the head for Y/Ns knees to collapse beneath her, the tears she had been keeping back for hours finally spilling down her cheeks.

Thor and Tony reached out, both managed to grab her arms before she hurt herself, gently setting her down on the floor. Wanda sat down next to Ada, her eyes glossy as she watched silently cry into her hands.

They stayed like that for what seemed like forever, Wanda comforting her friend as the other three stood above them awkwardly, Thor patting Ada on the shoulder. None of them had ever been really comfortable with crying girls - no matter who the girl was.

"Haha, Steve stop it!"

Everyone froze as a female voice cut through the silence, Ada's breath hitching as she recognised the deep chuckle that followed it. Looking up, she was about to ask the others if they had heard it, but they were all staring down the hallway, mouths open in shock. Frowning, she followed their gazes, her own expression becoming frozen as she spotted who had just walked through the front doors.

Steve and Sharon, a S.H.I.E.L.D agent who she had only seen from afar, had just walked into the building, clearly just as shocked to see them. Ada's eyes flickered down, her eyes darkening and tear-stained cheeks flushing with anger when she saw that one of Sharon's hands was loaded with gift bags from all different designer brands.

Her other hand was entwined with one of Steve's.

Before anyone could even blink, Ada was up and storming towards the two of them. She had barely gotten anywhere before she was joined by the others, their own faces a mirror of her own. No one was angrier than, Ada, however. All she could see was red and she could kick herself for not seeing this. Even without using her powers, the signs had been right in front of her and, as usual, she had ignored them, wanting to see the good in everyone. Her emotions pushed her forward, the anger taking over her whole body. As she got closer, Sharon grew paler, clutching Steve closer, and Ada couldn't help but smirk at the sight.

"Steve Rogers, I fucking swear. If this is what I think it is-!" Her voice cracked, the only giveaway to the sadness that seeped through her.

"Ada, I promise it's not what you think it is! It's just... just two friends going sightseeing on a boring day! I swear!"

Steve's wristwatch burst.

Sharon let out a short screech as the broken glass and the gears flew everywhere. Steve looked down at his watch, shocked, before looking back at Ada angrily.

"That was my father's, Ada!"

She laughed scornfully "Be thankful it wasn't your head! You're running out of time, Steve. Tell me the truth"

"I AM! I was bored and there was nothing special going on today so-"

"Nothing special? I- nothing special! It's my birthday, Steve! I turned 21, today - 21! Tony organised a huge party with food, drink - everything! Was that not special enough for you?"

Steve's mouth dropped open slightly, remorse filling his eyes as he finally took in the dress she was wearing. She never wore dresses unless it was a special occasion. She had grown sick of them after wearing them her whole life back in Asgard

"Steve, just tell her..."

Red filled Ada's vision once again but before she could truly show Steve the full force of her anger, she was gently shoved out of the way. Turning to look at who had pushed her, she was surprised to see Thor launching himself at Steve, his hammer spinning through the air.

"Brother, don't-!"

But his fist had already connected with Steve's face, causing him to fly across the room and smack against the wall. Grabbing Thor before he could walk over to where Steve had landed, Ada looked over to where he was now being helped up by Sharon, his face scrunched in pain.

"Don't both Thor. He's not worth breaking up the Avengers for."

"I didn't want to cause you pain, Ada. I meant to tell you when I first started dating Sharon-"

His half-arsed explanation was cut off as something else struck him in the face, throwing him back into the wall again. However, this time, he went through the wall, bits of plaster, metal, and brick flying everywhere.

Ada and Thor looked at each other in confusion before looking behind them at their friends, both laughing as they realised what must have happened. Tony had his suit back on, having just hit Steve with a repulsor blast. Wanda had clearly thrown a ball of her magic at him - Ada could still see it dancing between her fingers.

Turning to her other redheaded friend, she titled her head curiously. "Nat? What did you do?"

"I just threw one of my Bites at him."

"You electrocuted him?"

The beginning of Ada's laugh was stopped midway as the angry shout interrupted the conversation. All of them looked over at where Sharon stood, surprised that she even had the nerve to shout at them. She had climbed through the hole in the wall to find Steve and was currently kneeling beside him.

A cruel laugh was what the annoyed woman got in response. "That's nowhere near the damage that I could do to you if you don't shut up. Would you like to be sent 200 years into the past? I'm sure you'd love living in the workhouse." Ada's hands began to glow with golden light, mirrored by the small necklace she wore around her neck.

Visibly shaken, Sharon shook her head before turning back to look at Steve, clearing knowing exactly what the Time Goddes was capable of. Shaking her head in disgust, Ada finally turned away from the pathetic scene, her hands going back to normal as the tiredness she had felt before finally washed over her again. She felt both Wanda and Nat take either of her arms, guiding her towards the stairs. Tony and Thor stayed where they were, both glaring at the couple that sat on the floor in front of them.

Wanda hesitated, looking at her friend's anguished face with sad eyes. The anger had been replaced with overwhelming sadness the minute Ada had turned around, tears spilling onto the Goddess' cheeks and Wanda couldn't describe the mix of anger and sadness that it caused her. She swallowed, pushing her emotions out of her voice as she spoke, "Aren't you mad, Ada?"

Letting out a noise that could've been a laugh or a choked sob, Ada turned to look at the woman next to her. "Completely and utterly furious, Wanda. But Steve's a cheater and cheaters never win so they just aren't worth anyone's time."
