Chapter 53 – The last hope
Imperialdramon was sad. He went looking for his friend for such a long time now. Even after he founded the Royal Knights, he couldn't find his best and first friend. He hoped, he prayed, yet his friend never showed up. Imperialdramon sighed as he leaned against the tree. He pushed the tip of his sword into the ground and closed his eyes while his head leaned against the hilt. Even after fifty years there was no sign of Anubismon. But he would never give up! One day, one day he would find his best friend…
But what was the point? Omnimon had given up first. Then Magnamon, Gallantmon and Dynasmon followed. Eventually Alphamon gave up as well, even though he was the last to gave up. It was actually surprising to him that he wasn't giving up hope that easily. In the end the leader of the Royal Knights liked Anubismon.
Sighing heavily Imperialdramon opened his eyes again and let his gaze wander to the leaves of the tree. The Royal Knights were developing in a good direction. Alphamon managed to recruit some other digimon into their little group. Currently the number of the Royal Knights were nine. Nine stubborn digimon who wanted to protect the digital world. Even though their ideals may clash they were a group to behold.
The white dragon man smiled at those thoughts. Despite everything that had happened he was proud of what he had accomplished. His dream was almost fulfilled. Standing up again, Imperialdramon decided that he had rested enough and wanted to move on.
Suddenly he heard a scream. Imperialdramon's eyes narrowed and he gripped the hilt of his sword tightly before rushing towards the scream. What he saw terrified him. A digimon cloaked with a cape was attacking a Seadramon who winded under the merciless assault of the unknown digimon.
"Omega Blade!" Imperialdramon screamed as he gathered energy in his sword before he released it onto the unknown digimon.
The digimon jumped back barely missing the attack and narrowed his eyes. Meanwhile the Seadramon got up from his position and rushed behind his saviour.
"Th-thank you, Sir." the sea-snake said.
"You're welcome. Let me handle him. You should leave now. This battle will be brutal and merciless." the white dragon man suggested.
"Understood, Sir." Seadramon said and fled as fast as he could.
The unknown digimon tried to attack the sea-snake but he was stopped by Imperialdramon who stood protectively in front of the sea-snake. With an outcry his enemy launched himself at him and released a sphere of darkness. The white dragon man narrowed his eyes and swung his sword out effectively deflecting the dark sphere which collided with a tree.
The impact was so great that a shock wave swept over the two digimon knocking them to the ground. Imperialdramon growled and stood up again using his sword as a leverage. He watched his opponent silently as he too stood up. There was something familiar about him, but he didn't know what.
It didn't matter. He knew this digimon was dangerous. Too dangerous to be lurking around in the digital world. Even if he killed him he would only be reborn and thus he would cause more problems. There was only one way to actually prevent this digimon from harming others. He had to seal him into the Dark Ocean.
Placing his sword in front of his body Imperialdramon closed his eyes in concentration. A white circle formed under his feet while his blade started to shine in a radiant light. He felt how the unknown digimon tried to attack him with another sphere of darkness. However, the attack was swallowed by the blinding light of his sword.
He pushed the sword into the ground and opened a portal underneath his enemy. The enemy screamed in rage as he was swallowed by the portal. The portal itself closed shortly afterwards leaving an exhausted Imperialdramon on the valley.
And then it hit him. His eyes widened and he took a shaky breath. He… that digimon was his friend Anubismon! He had sealed his friend into the Dark Ocean even though he tried to prevent it from happening. A loud mournful scream escaped his mouth.
What has he done? How could he have sealed away his best friend? Without hesitation he grabbed the hilt of his sword in both hands and pointed the tip of the weapon to his stomach. He couldn't life with this burden! He just couldn't. With a final cry he plunged his weapon into his abdomen. He was never aware that Deemon watched him from the Dark Ocean and cried upon his friend's death.
With an angry outcry, Deemon created a black sphere between his claws. He destroyed it by himself, throwing Magnamon, Omnimon, Dynasmon, and Jesmon away.
"Damn..." Akira's partner cursed as he landed again against a destroyed house wall.
"Even after the... history... I don't... understand him." the golden knight quipped, closing his eyes.
"Because it happened... long ago..." the fused digimon explained: "This story happened millennia ago. We were reborn too many times to remember this."
"Exactly! Why should you remember it?!" shouted Deemon.
"But that doesn't mean... that you should just attack us!" the dragon man shouted: "We have done nothing to you!"
The demon laughed diabolically. His laughter fell silent. He quickly raced towards Jesmon and grabbed him by the neck.
"You once manage to disrupt my plans! You and the Homeostasis." Deemon growled: "You're going to die first and then your partner!"
The golden eyes of the dragon man widened with terror.
/Meiko!/ he thought to himself, and the next moment he wanted to kill the enemy with his tail blade.
But his enemy pushed him to the ground. Deemon placed his claw in front of Jesmon's body while he was still struggling with the hold on his neck. He closed his eyes. He couldn't leave Meiko alone. Never. He wouldn't forgive himself. Not after he nearly killed Meicoomon. The dragon man clenched his golden claws into fists.
"Jesmon..." Dynasmon raved and tried to stand up, but couldn't.
His body hit the ground. He cursed and turned his eyes away. He didn't want to watch as the story repeat itself. For Crusadermon was in the same situation and he had been at the end of his powers. At that time, Deemon was able to kill her. He had vowed that if this scenario ever happened again, he would not allow it. And yet he couldn't. He could not protect the dragon man. Angry with himself, he gritted his teeth and suppressed an emerging curse.
"Damn... It repeats itself..." Magnamon breathed, recalling how UlforceVeedramon was pierced by Deemon's claw.
Shortly the golden knight turned his gaze to the group of DigiDestined. The demon would kill them all. One by one... and he could do nothing. How he hated it.
"There's nothing we can do." Omnimon said.
Before he became Tai's and Matt's partner, he advised Alphamon to seal Deemon into the Dark Ocean because he had been far too strong. Thinking back… Did Deemon actually managed to free himself? No. This was not important right now. What was important, was how strong Deemon got.
"You are the first to go! Don't worry. Your partner will follow immediately." Deemon laughed.
Meiko, who watched the scene from a distance, screamed in terror:
"Jesmon!"
"Starlight…" began a voice.
"What?" Deemon looked around but couldn't find the owner of the voice.
"Explosion!" screamed Phoenixmon as she released her attack.
Deemon was hit straight into the chest and sent flying back to the ground. Before he could even hit the ground however, he was hurled away by a thorn whip. Rosemon grinned at the strike because she remembered that she didn't even manage to hit him the last time they thought.
"Together, Magnadramon!" Seraphimon called.
"Right! Holy Fire!" she released a tornado of fire from her mouth.
"Strike of the Seventh Stars!" the angel-digimon summoned seven spheres of light.
The two attacks fused together to create a strong energy beam. Deemon managed to avoid the attack but was soon knocked back by an electrical sphere and an ice column created by HerculesKabuterimon and Vikemon. Growling with anger he flapped his wings in order to stabilize himself before he noticed blue flames rushing towards him. He stretched his arm out and blocked the attack while he narrowed his eyes and watched Spinomon.
"We are not done yet!" Ornithmon said while flapping with his wings: "Tempest!"
A strong wind appeared and nearly knocked Deemon over again. However, he was attacked by several drones created by BanchoStingmon.
"We might just be the companions of the Royal Knights!" began the insect man: "And we might have sustained some damage from your attack. But-"
"But we can still fight!" Spinomon interrupted him and hit his tail on the ground.
"Besides… It is payback time for what you did to us, Deemon!" screamed Rosemon in rage.
"Somehow, I agree with you." Seraphimon said.
"Oh come on, Seraphi. You are always so mean…" the rose woman protested.
"Cut it out, you two." Magnadramon joined in the conversation: "You can fight after Deemon is defeated."
"She is right!" HerculesKabuterimon agreed: "We first need to defeat him!"
"So, let's do it then!" Vikemon shouted.
"Together we will be able to stop him!" Phoenixmon replied.
"Alright, everyone! On three!" shouted BanchoStingmon: "One, two… Three! Bakuraiten!"
"Cosmic Ray!" Ornithmon said loudly.
"Blue Prominence!" Spinomon summoned his attack.
"Forbidden Tempation!" Rosemon released a swirl of red pedestal from her rose on her collar bone.
"Arctic Blizzard!" Vikemon shouted.
"Giga Blaster!" HerculesKabuterimon hissed.
"Holy Fire!" Magnadramon spit fire out of her mouth.
"Strike of the Seventh Stars!" Seraphimon summoned again seven spheres of light and fired them to the enemy.
"Starlight Explosion!" Phoenixmon screamed.
Deemon narrowed his eyes while the attacks raced towards him. Without any further ado he crossed his arms in front of his body and prepared for the impact. He knew that he would survive the attack because the partners weren't strong enough to defeat him. Smiling evilly, he closed his eyes as the attacks collided with his arms.
They didn't expect much but they at least expected that the attack would harm him a little bit. But it did basically nothing. Seraphimon cursed loudly and looked towards Omnimon and then to HerculesKabuterimon. The insect could almost read the thoughts of the angel and closed his eyes. It was a risk. One wrong move and everyone might die. But their friend needed their support. Rosemon seemed also to notice what the two were planning and smiled slightly. Meanwhile Magnadramon and Vikemon already flew towards Tai's and Matt's partner. Phoenixmon followed them closely by. The other partners followed them and surrounded Omnimon who now stood up again.
"You… guys…" he panted with exhaustion.
"We will give you our strength just like the time then we thought Ordinemon." the bird began.
"But-" Omnimon protested.
"We now the risk. But we can't let anything happen to our partners." Magnadramon cut him off.
"Besides. We can only do this together!" Seraphimon said.
"We managed to beat Ordinemon! That's why we are going to win this fight!" Vikemon shouted euphorically.
"Exactly! My calculations are that we will win this fight if we fuse with you." HerculesKabuterimon stated.
"Come on, darling. We want to lend you our strength." Rosemon chirped in.
"Are you sure? If I get a mortal wound you would die alongside me." Omnimon reminded them.
"And? We've been through so much. Surely you would understand that we won't let you down now." Phoenixmon remarked.
"Okay. Let's do it then!" the knight shouted and closed his eyes.
Seraphimon, Magnadramon, Phoenixmon, Vikemon, Rosemon and HerculesKabuterimon began to glow in different colors. As they dissolve in data they all screamed in unison:
"DNA-digivolve to…"
The light of the six digimon swirled around Omnimon and eventually fused with his jewel on his chest armor. Afterwards the knight's cape was wrapped in a white light before turning into a blue trimmed pattern. The pattern shattered and formed two feathered wings. Then the Garuru head and the Grey head turned white and the weapons grew bigger and received a silver color. Eventually Omnimon's eyes turned to green while blue lines aligned themselves over his body.
"Omnimon Merciful Mode!" shouted Omnimon.
Magnamon stood up astonished by the sudden fusion. He was amazed to see such a beautiful fusion because he was killed last time before the white knight fused with his companions. His eyes were wide in astonishment and the urge to bow to Omnimon was immense.
"Amazing… It had happened yet again." Jesmon said next to him. "The bond between humans and digimon is truly astonishing. Even the Homeostasis cannot comprehend such a thing."
"Hope he doesn't die like last time then he fused with his companions…" Dynasmon muttered and glanced towards the DigiDestined.
They all stood there similar astonished. Especially Akira, Sera, Davis, Ken, Cody and Yolei because they haven't seen something like this before. Meanwhile Tai clenched his hands into tight, trembling fists. They needed to succeed in defeating Deemon! He just hoped that Omnimon was strong enough to take him on and defeat him once and for all. Kari closed her eyes and smiled slightly.
Dynasmon flapped his wings. Magnamon punched his right hand into his palm and nodded his head. Jesmon summoned Por, Atho and René and shouted to Omnimon:
"We will assist you! We are after all the Royal Knights! We protect the world!"
Then the sword digimon rushed towards Deemon ready to distract him. Despite the pain he felt coursing through his body he would assist Omnimon in defeating the demon.
"Tch… The newbie needed to say that." the dragon man growled softly while he saw how Jesmon was already fighting Deemon.
"Come on… Let him have fun." the golden knight said: "Besides… He sounded like he used to be."
"Looks like he has hope again…" Dynasmon replied before he gathered energy around his body and released it in form of a Wyvern: "Breath of Wyvern!"
"Plasma Shoot!" Magnamon shouted and fired several torpedoes at the enemy.
Jesmon saw the incoming attacks and jumped into the air with a somersault. Deemon narrowed his eyes at the incoming attacks and crossed his arms over his body protecting himself from them. However, he didn't anticipate that Omnimon Merciful Mode was upon him and pushed down his blade onto his arms. Deemon screamed in rage while the blade began to cut into his flesh. Then the fused knight fired his cannon hauling the demon several feet away from him. Jesmon immediately flew above him and the three energetic beings formed a triangle.
"Un Pour Tous!" he shouted and thrusted his blades into the triangle.
A green beam shot out of the energy field straight down to the demon. He managed to deflect the attack with flames which shot from his hands. Deemon then flapped his wings and flew right after Jesmon. The demon threw out his claw in order to slash through the sword digimon. However, this attack was prevented by the three energetic beings protecting their lord with another energy field.
Dynasmon saw his chance and attack Deemon with his own claws. The demon flew back and screamed in anger. Then he fired a black tornado from his hands. Both Dynasmon and Jesmon were caught in this attack and sent to the ground. The former tried to stand up but noticed that he couldn't do it anymore. Exhausted he remained on the ground and closed his eyes.
Jesmon, on the other hand, stood up again and cursed slightly. He just wished he had enough strength to perform OC Generics… Then he could overpower Deemon. But then again… If he did that he would get himself killed. And he simply couldn't leave Meiko behind. The sword digimon closed his eyes and decided it was best to return to his rookie-level. Once he was Hackmon again he felt how his body was picked up and a face was pressed into his back.
"M-Meiko?" he softly protested.
"I thought you would die as well!" she shouted.
"I… am sorry…" he muttered.
Meanwhile Magnamon narrowed his eyes and looked to Omnimon Merciful Mode who simply nodded his head. His withe feathered wings flapped and the fused knight flew high into the sky. Magnamon, on the other hand, rushed towards Deemon and punched him straight into his face. The demon growled slightly and grabbed the wrist of the golden knight. He turned it painfully causing Magnamon to scream. His companions were furious about this attacked Deemon with their strongest attacks. The demon barely managed to avoid these attacks before he released a dark shockwave sending Magnamon, Ornithmon, Spinomon and BanchoStingmon to the ground. All of them returned to their rookie-level. They too were now completely exhausted but they did everything they could.
"NOW! Omnimon!" Veemon shouted on top of his lungs. "He still need time to recover!"
Deemon cursed under his breath. He had completely forgotten about Omnimon Merciful Mode. He narrowed his eyes and tried to fire an attack but he was still to exhausted from his last attack.
"Graceful Cannon!" screamed Omnimon Merciful Mode and fired an energy blast from his Garuru Cannon.
The blast collided with his chest. Deemon screamed in pain as part of his body began to freeze. The demon saw the fused knight descending to the ground with his sword pointed at him. He actually looked like an angel. A beautiful angel ready to mercilessly strike him down for what he did. But he was not ready… He was going to kill at least one Royal Knight!
With this final attempt he thrusted his claws into his chest and ripped a dark object from it. Omnimon immediately flew some feet away realizing what the object was. It was Apocalymon's data which was inside Meicoomon!
"I'll take you with ME! OMNIMON! You and your COMPANIONS!" he screamed and shattered Apocalymon's data with his claw.
"Oh no you don't!" someone shouted from above him.
Dynasmon had raised his fist which glowed in a purple light. He was ready to defeat him with his ultimate attack. And he was going to pull it through. Even though he might kill himself with this attack. It was for the sake of everyone… Especially Akira.
"Don't do it, DYNASMON!" the fused knight shouted at him.
But too late. Dynasmon already had punched the ground ending in a huge explosion. Omnimon was thrown away by that force and slammed into an already destroyed building. His eyes widened at the spectacle in front of him before he separated into eight rookie-level digimon. Meanwhile the attack still continued. Amongst all the noises they heard something.
A name… said sadly from one single digimon. Deemon said with his last strength the name of his best friend… Imperialdramon…
The aftereffects of Dynasmon's attack subdued and left nothing behind. Akira's eyes widened… Where was… Where was her partner? Where was Dynasmon? She rushed towards the ocean and searched everywhere for her friend. Then she couldn't find him she hit the ground with her knees and screamed. She screamed and screamed and screamed. She had lost him! She had lost her best friend! Tears were flowing from her eyes as she continued screaming. Someone hugged her from behind.
"It's okay…" she heard Meiko's voice.
Akira didn't even have the chance to say goodbye to Dynasmon. He simply… he simply died. Leaving her behind. Her voice died down and she simply stared at the ocean. In her only one question arose… Why? Why him? He didn't deserve it. He simply couldn't leave her behind. He couldn't!
The young woman freed herself from Meiko's hug and screamed his name over and over again. Hoping he would return. But he didn't. And so, she hit the ground again with her knees and she started sobbing. This time she swore not to calm herself down. Who cares that Meiko literally experienced the same thing! It didn't matter and-
"It's nice that you are so sad." a voice said in front of her: "I just wonder why."
She snapped out of her sadness and simply stared at the digimon in front of her. This didn't happen right now! He couldn't be… He couldn't be…
"I am not dead yet." Wanyamon protested in his usual unfriendly voice: "It would take a lot to kill me. I am, after all, a Royal- no… I am your friend." he softly corrected himself: "I couldn't leave you behind."
Without a second thought Akira had hugged her partner closely to her chest. She started crying again. This time into his fur. She sobbed tears of happiness. She repeated his name over and over again happily.
"Whoa! Can't breathe! Do you want to kill me?!" he shouted.
"Come on… You were the one who said that it would take a lot to kill you." she laughed.
"Correction! Correction! I can die from this!" he protested but somehow began to laugh.
She simply ignored this sentence and closed her eyes. She swore to never let him go. Her friends and her mother joined her and they all talked about something. Akira simply didn't care about this. Because she was so happy that her friend was here with her.
Then the young woman stood up with Wanyamon in her arms and looked into the ocean. She smiled and watched the waves. A soft wind blew in her face and she closed her eyes. So many things had changed for her… But those changes meant happiness for her. And not only for her… For everyone else as well… Especially for her partner. For Wanyamon who was staring at the waves as well. For Meiko who found a new partner in Hackmon. For Davis, Yolei, Cody, Ken, Veemon, Hawkmon, Armadillomon and Wormmon who were able to reach new levels. And for everyone else… This was truly an adventure.
And in this very moment Akira thought that this was the happiest moment in her entire life. And truth to be told... It was.
The End
Final notes: It is done. The final chapter is released. I was so happy to actually manage to translate this entire story. One note on this chapter. I did a lot of changes here... To be honest I wasn't happy about the original ending and so I thought I change it (a lot). Some might notice that I actually wrote the majority of the chapter in English by myself and didn't translate it. If some sentences came out wrong, I am not sorry!
There are many things within this story I am happy about. Especially for Meiko and Hackmon. Every time I see the scene those two talk in Our Future I thought... Why not making them partners? It was a really fun idea.
Giving the fact that Wormmon, Hawkmon and Armadillomon didn't receive ultimate-levels I was upset. So yeah, I thought why not giving them some. So BanchoStingmon, Ornithmon and Spinomon became their ultimate-levels. For Veemon he got his armor-level Magnamon back.
Many people actually hate Adventure tri. But I like it a lot. Many people like Kizuna. I hate it because of the 02-epilogue and it didn't really fit into the Adventure-Universe. Every tear bait in this is destroyed by that epilogue. Unlike in Adventure tri. where I actually hoped that Meicoomon would be saved but in the end she wasn't. R.I.P. Meicoomon.
In the end I have to say that I am kind of sad that it ends now. But then again, every story needs to end at one point or another. However, I hope you liked this fanfiction.
