A/N - This came around as a result of the scene that was cut from Trio and also I read somewhere that they were going to use that storyline to take Sam out of Atlantis. Thus my first Sam in Atlantis story. Well, my first posted one anyway. I know that that the PTB of Stargate would never be this overt in regards to Jack/Sam, but I can dream! I began writing, then finished, this story at school. Took me all of about a week to do, which is pretty good for me.

Anyway, on with the story!

As usual, please read and review.

Sam wondered about the consequences of what she told Keller about her 'complicated relationship'. Every time she saw the other woman, there was an analysing look in her eyes. All the worse was the fact that when Keller was bringing a report to Sam, the gate activated, leading to the receipt of a message from the SGC. But not just any message, this was a message from Jack to Sam. Sam smiled slightly seeing his face.

"General, what can I do for you?" Chuck asked.

"Could you get Colonel Carter for me?" Jack asked. Sam walked over to the seat and put her hand on Chuck's shoulder. The technician got out of the seat and moved off to another console.

"I'm here," Sam stated, sitting in the chair that Chuck just vacated. She watched him smile as she came into focus on his end.

"Hey Sam," he said gently. Sam smiled back at him.

"Hey," she replied.

"Good work on the rescue operation," Jack congratulated.

"Don't congratulate me, I almost got captured!" Sam replied light-heartedly.

"Yeah well, haven't we all," Jack replied with a smile.

"So you call for a reason, or you just wanted to chat?" Sam asked.

"Alright, alright..." Jack grumbled, then added, "Typical woman."

"I heard that!" Sam retorted with a grin. Jack picked up a piece of paper, before looking up and grinning back at her.

"Shall I read it out for you?" He asked.

"Sure," Sam replied simply.

"Ok… 'Colonel Samantha O'Neill. By order of the President of the United States of America, your presence is required at the execution of the former system lord Ba'al,'" Jack finished and looked up.

"You're coming home Sam," he added.

"Did that letter actually have that beginning?" Sam asked.

"You mean your name?" Jack clarified.

"With that surname," Sam added.

"Yeah. Presumptuous isn't he?" Jack answered. Sam just grinned.

"So when do I have to leave?" She asked.

"In two days," Jack replied.

"Ok… I'll see you then, Jack," Sam stated. Jack nodded, the expression in his eyes gentle.

"Yes you will. O'Neill out," He said, before shutting down the gate.

Smiling Sam stood up and turned around to walk to her office. She stopped, seeing Jennifer and Rodney standing close by. Sam felt slightly embarrassed, but almost laughed seeing the confusion on Rodney's face. Jennifer, however, had a knowing smile.

"Complicated, huh?" She asked. Sam gave her a sheepish smile.

"Yeah," She replied. Jennifer handed her the report she held before smirking and walking away. Rodney stayed, still staring at Sam.

"Yes Rodney?" she prompted.

"He's General O'Neill and you're a colonel, so…" Rodney trailed off. Sam grinned, realising what he was trying to say.

"Yes Rodney," she answered.

"O'Neill?" He spluttered incredulously.

"Yes Rodney," Sam replied patiently. Rodney calmed down enough to actually ask a coherent question.

"How long?" he asked, not sure if he actually wanted to know the answer.

"Oh… almost three years," Sam replied and smiled, before returning to her office. Rodney's eyes widened and he stood there, shocked, for a moment, before shaking his head and leaving for his lab, grumbling softly to himself as he went.
