Lols, I was given the idea by a reviewer in one of my other stories, and started writing something while I thought about the directions I wanted both my stories to go. I won't really be uploading much or at all in this, just something to dabble with while I mess with my main fics. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own RWBY, that's Rooster Teeth. I really love their work, it's legit. Also don't own Monster Hunter World.
Chapter 1: I Take A Walk Into Death Forest
I'm not particularly interesting or anything. My main defining feature is a-um… do I have one?
I guess being gay would… no, that's pretty average.
So yeah, one wouldn't blame a completely average girl to wake up in a really dense forest, really really confused.
"Uh hello?" I called out, confused.
I was up on my feet, a strange looking weapon strapped to my back.
I scratched my head, noting the strange outfit I wore.
A metal buckle holding thin looking chainmail over a tight under shirt. The tough brown leather only went down to the small of my back, barely, but at least covered the whole of my torso, buttoned up.
I have no protection on my thighs.
I pouted, not amused.
I mean, come on. I'll be the first to admit I had amazing legs, but really?
No no-my first question shouldn't be where was my leg armor was-it should be where the heck am I?!
Did someone throw me into a forest after knocking me out? Why do I have a sword strapped to my back? Is this some reality show? Can I sue?
Also how do I win?
"Woah!"
I jerked back.
A black haired girl stared back at me. Red highlights blaring.
Oh.
She waved awkwardly. "Uh, hi!"
I waved back. "Hi?"
"I'm Ruby, um, I guess we're partners?"
"Yeah sure." I said distractedly.
I got really lost in her eyes.
She was dressed in black, white undershirt and corset. Young, really cute.
Jeez, pull yourself together.
I shook my head, taking her in. She was dressed similarly to me, unusual style, giant weapon. "Any idea where we are?" I asked, putting my hands behind my back and following her curiously.
"Um… no idea. You?"
I blinked, intimidated by her cute stare, rubbing the back of my head. "Terrible sense of direction." Sorry.
She sighed, deflating. "Yeah, that figures."
I looked at the rocks on the ground. "Hm."
[Tracking skill unlocked!]

[Tracking(Lv:1)]-Allows accelerated thoughts and knowledge pertaining to current tracking.
Tracking ability 20%
I blinked, my mind sorting through loads of information. I shelved everything and anything about my weird ability as my head filled me in on my current situation. Beacon. Test. Get to ruins.
"This rock is soft." I muttered, squatting down to look at the ground. "The trees are dense. Where would you build a crumbling civilization?" I stood up, peering around.
Tracking Lv 2!
Passive bonus Tracking ability 23%
It became clear.
The ground slowly elevates to the left, the rock looking more solid. Lots of wildlife means lots of animals. Lot's of natural springs and rivers, somewhere.
It had to be in that direction.
"Let's go that way." I pointed left. "I recognize higher elevation."
The girl had this look of shock on her. It was utterly adorable.
I walked along, she skipped. "Do you know where we're going?"
"Not exactly." I made conversation, trying not to be a total weirdo. The peppy vibes I was getting from her was totally my type. "But I recognize the rock sediment, and we don't have any better ideas."
She nodded, bobbing her head. "How do you know this stuff?"
"Um… my dad and I used to go camping." That wasn't a lie, and it's not like I could just tell her my mystic powers granted me knowledge at tracking.
I wanted her to like me.
"Heh. Yeah my dad's pretty cool." She beamed. "He's a brawler, like my sister. He's not as cool as my uncle Qrow though! He taught me how to wield a scythe!"
I laughed at that, giving a silent wince at the burn to her own father.
Rest in peace Ruby's dad.
A thought came to me. "Oh! I never told you my name. Sorry."
"Nah it's cool."
"I'm Rodin Solidago. Friends call me Rodin. Or Dago." I waved. My mom was mexican, and my dad was japanese. Also they both were bad at naming things. My dog's name is Burrito.
"Nice to meet you!" Ruby cheered.
I was hit by the power of moe.
But then the mood shifted.
A feeling sent my hairs on end, like I was being watched. I gave a soft exclamation of surprise, mouth parting.
[Skill Detection unlocked!]
[Detection(Lv:1)]-A general awareness, now amplified through The Gamer!
Detection ability 25%!
My ears caught the subtle growling of a predator, it's claws tensing like muscle.
I didn't bother with words, instead twisting around as I grasped for the handle of my sword on my back.
It locked with my shield, the shield itself pushing out it's two sides as I gave a wide overarching swing. The axe cutting through whatever jumped at us like paper.
I gave a startled jerk, pulling my weapon back, fully slicing it in half.
Holy shit!

I shook my head at the information, deciding to comb through it later, along with the new weapon prowess I now seemed to have.
My eyes narrowed at the dissolving corpse(gross). Mainly black, bone-like armor, animalistic.
[Observe Unlocked!]
[Beowulf]-Lv:8
"A Beowulf." I stated, glancing at my partner.
She seemed to be in a state of shock.
One she was quick to snap out of as more growls echoed closer to us.
"Tsk." I hefted my oversized axe, giving a huff.
The thing was heavy.
Ruby squealed as she saw it, jumping up and down. "You have to show me that later, please?!"
I blinked.
Okay, kind of a gun nut. I digged it.
Man that just made her like a hundred times more adorable.
"Of course, partner." I grinned, reading my weapon.
This was gonna be fun.
[Lv: 9]
[Charge Blade Proficiency(Lvl:13)]
Between the use of [Detection], [Observe], and [Tracking] we were easily able to locate the ruins.
Which was awesome!
I was like-a fantasy character or something! This was too epic!
Of course, I played it cool in front of Ruby. Not wanting to ruin the image of an awesome badass with a giant axe-blade-shield, whatever.
I think I was selling the mature vibe even if I was completely freaking out on the inside.
I wanted to live forever in her moe gaze.
"But cookies are not a food Ruby." I commented, moving over some gnarled roots and vines.
"Are too!"
"That much sugar can not be good for your teeth."
"Nuh uh!"
"I'm actually a big fan of fruits." I pretended to ponder, tapping my chin, teasing her.
"Ew!" Her face twisted adorably, like she actually thought the idea of fruit revolting.
"And I boil kale."
"EW!"
I laughed, happy as we made it into the ruins-I-oh wow.
They were big. I mean, I was pretty confident in my chest but… jeez.
I swallowed, looking away when I realised I was staring.
Get it together Rodin. I chastised myself, moving into the clearing.
The girl(who I was decidedly not staring at before) beamed, waving us over.
She was tall, and blonde.
And my type.
The girl wore a tan jacket, exposing her midriff. Bright golden hair. Happy italic eyes.
Gosh I could feel my face burning up! Rgh! Go away embarrassment!
[Gamer Mind activated!]
Oh.
I was lost in the cool sensation of my spiking emotions numbing. Ruby rushed to greet the girl in the clearing.
"Hey Ruby!" The blonde laughed excitedly.
Ruby greeted her back happily. "Yang!"
Yang gave me a questioning glance, shifting towards me. "Who's your friend here?"
Eep!
"This is Rodin! She's awesome!"
I waved, shyly. "Um, hi."
"Nice sword."
That opened me up a little, eating some of my nerves I grinned brightly. "Thanks."
The girl next to her huffed lightly, crossing her arms. "Could we get on with it?"
"Ah! Weiss!" Ruby exclaimed, moving away in shocked panic.
I blinked, taking in the white haired girl wearing a dress. She had a cool looking rapier to her side. Short, in a smol kind of way.
10/10.
The girl(Weiss) shot a heated glare at Ruby, who was flailing dramatically. "Can you not be a total spaz?"
Yang scowled. "Hey lay off Ice Queen!"
"Stop calling me that!" The girl growled back at Yang.
Tension broke when a Ursa stumbled into the clearing.
I tensed myself, but paused when it collapsed to the ground, dead.
A girly frustrated noise came from behind it. "Aw I broke it! Ren!" She called out, looking around.
"I see it Nora." Someone sighed.
'Nora' looked energetic. And ginger.
Is every girl here otherworldly beautiful? I groused to myself.
A black haired beauty landed next to us, alone. She was quiet, and her beautiful amber eyes darted across the clearing.
Guess that answers my question. I thought flatly.
At least [Gamer Mind] made it so I wasn't a stuttering mess.
A shrill cry broke out and I reflexively reached out and grabbed someone as they shot passed me. The guy was startled.
I blinked.
He blinked.
"Uh, thanks."
"Don't mention it." Man I feel so cool!
He was blonde, and looked kind of nervous. He also was flying through the air when my instincts told me to catch him.
My eyes caught someone else dashing into the clearing-oh.
She was absolutely stunning. Long red hair. Gorgeous green eyes. Tall as an amazon and as beautiful as the sun.
My gay meter couldn't handle any more stunning gorgeous women breaking out into the clearing.
And that's when a huge ass scorpion crashed through the trees, looking like death personified.
Deathstalker Lv: 54
Okay.
Yang Xiao Long
She was okay.
I mean, her outfit was killer, and her sword was pretty tight.
But she was kinda plain.
Brown hair, light brown eyes. Her outfit was mainly a nice leather with golden trims. She had an innocent aura around her, and it was kinda cute when she blushed.
But I had been hit on by way prettier women.
Sure I liked to have fun dancing at clubs and riding on motorcycles-but I just didn't see the appeal of dating. Or even getting remotely close to another person like that.
I had my sister to look out for after all, couldn't let silly things like relationships get in the way of that.
Of course I saw her looking-but if she wasn't gonna say anything then I wasn't. It wasn't like a look was something to get mad at. Everybody did it.
'Rodin'. So she was gonna be my sister's partner…
Then Weiss started talking smack, and I was about to give her a smack. Some crazy ginger lady rode in on a Ursa and then a Deathstalker showed up.
Joy.
"Great, I guess we can all die together." I growled, readying my gauntlets.
Rodin frowned camly, reaching for the hilt of her big ass sword. "I think I could break it's shell. There's a lot of us here. Together, I think we can take an A-class grimm."
Her eyes were focused, way more than before. She widened her stance, still frowning. Face concentrated in a way as if she was reading text off a screen, and getting useful information out of it.
Huh.
Major flip from the blushing girl I saw a few seconds ago. I could respect a gal who knew when to get serious.
Of course with my eyes on her I noticed too late Ruby dashing off to fight the fucking Deathstalker.
"Ruby!" I shouted in panic.
"I got this!"
She twirled her scythe, ramming the blade against its shell.
Only for it to bounce off.
The Grimm's eyes narrowed, swiping at her. Ruby stumbled back, sweating. "Uh, no worries! Still got this!"
"Rah!"
The massive beast got hit by a giant axe. The force made it stumble away in a brutalising combo.
Rodin huffed, wielding the massive weapon in her hands like it weighed nothing.
Oh.
She grinned, the axe shifting into a sword and shield in one swift movement. "We're partners Ruby. Don't go rushing in alone! This blade was meant to deal with heavy enemies. I can go toe to toe with it for a while, go find your relic."
As I analyzed her weapon, I noticed just how thick and large the metal of her shield was. With it shifting from axe to sword like that, it made sense. But it also had the added benefit of being able to take blows from things like a Deathstalker.
Ruby hesitated for a second before nodding, grinning thankfully. "Right!"
Rodin turned back to the Deathstalker, even as the rest of us picked out our chest pieces.
"These are the relics right?" Ruby mumbled.
I picked out my own, taking a glance back at Rodin, who seemed to really be holding her own against the Deathstalker.
I guess never judge a book by it's cover.
Rodin Lv: 9
I was so not holding my own against the Deathstalker!
And I was not making any headway with the sword shield combo! It just wasn't strong enough to do damage, and kept deflecting off it's hide. Against smaller enemies like Beowulfs(who when standing could be considered over 7 feet) I could throw them around like ragdolls no problem.
But this?
Just not cutting it. Literally.
I growled to myself, barely dodging out of the way of another charge tackle the thing tried to do. I learned quickly to watch out for it's tail-because it would swipe at you from behind.
Deathstalker Lv: 54
HP: 380,870/400,000
Suffice to say I was grossly outmatched. Only the long reach of my axe prevented me from having to get close enough within range of its stinger.
I panted, but not sweaty or overly tired.
[Gamer Body]-Resistant to fatigue and stamina loss. Immunity to ? and/or body possession. Allows for exponential growth and stat points.

The screen popped up in front of me, as I blocked a heavy attack from the Deathstalker, skidding back.
-45 damage!
HP: 2,500/4,000
"20." I gritted out. "20 in Str."
Suddenly I felt a whole lot stronger.
But I had no time to dwell on it!
"RAH!" I swung down as hard as I could.
Breaking into its armor.
I shifted the mechanisms, causing a release of kinetic energy, going for another swing in the exact same spot.
Critical Hit! Critical Hit!-612x4!Deathstalker HP: 378,422/400,000
Grr! This thing just doesn't die!
Oh wait, I'm only supposed to be holding it off, slowing it down… so…
I stepped back, releasing all the built up kinetic energy at once and swung at two of it's legs, hoping all the built up force would cause serious damage.
There was a sickening crunch, and a sickening screech.
-12,000!
Status Effect Inflicted! Crippled!
My weapon was out of heavy hitting blows, unless I wanted to wait another 10 minutes charging it back up. Which meant I had to run.
Which I did.
I grabbed a black chess piece, and rushed off with my weapon strapped to my back.
Everyone else was already very much ahead of me, but luckily due to my tracking skill, I was able to find them and catch up quickly.
"Rodin!" A few people yelled, walking along the bridge.
I panted, catching my breath. "Ah, hey guys."
Ruby squealed, giving me a hug. "You're alive!"
I scoffed playful. "Of course. My axe has a special move that deals a super attack through built up kinetic energy. Somehow I managed to score a hit on two of its legs, hopefully crippling it. Then I booked it. Here we are." I recounted what happened.
"Kinetic energy?!" I stepped back, Ruby practically frothing. "How?!"
I blinked, words pouring out of my mouth subconsciously. "It's an inbuilt mechanism. Kind of like a spring? The force hitting my blade and shield are stored there and then I shift them so it releases."
Huh. I guess skill with a blade transfers to knowledge about it? I had no idea how else I could have known about my weapon like that.
"Attacking and blocking makes my strikes stronger, and it means less risks to my blade breaking." I continued. "I've rebuilt it a couple of times, but the design has alway held up strong."
Yang grinned. "Sounds like it does. That axe threw a Deathstalker. Constantly ramping up that strength has to be pretty devastating."
I blushed, trying not to get lost in her pretty eyes. Without [Gamer Mind] to clear my thoughts, I was really aware of all the beautiful women around me. "Yeah." I said bashfully. "I only have to worry about sharpening it."
Yang flexed-and oh gosh. Why did her arms have to be so sexy? "My semblance kind of works like that. The more damage I take, the stronger I get."
Semblance?
Information flooded my brain. Semblance. Aura.
Stuff I don't have. Gr-focus on something else!
Her muscles look really hot-no, not that! "Er, right."
Yang Xiao Long Lv: 27
HP: 4,500 AP: 7,000
"Is it really smart giving away information like that?" The prissy one crossed her arms.
"I don't see why it wouldn't be." I put in, stepping between them before a fight could break out. "I mean, it's not like we're enemies or anything."
"Yeah!" Ruby cheered. "We're all here to fight Grimm!"
"I've always wanted to be a Hunter." Jaune smiled.
"Then let's get back to Beacon." I marched on.
And scene! Chapter done! Whenever I get bad writers block I'll, or maybe even make a new story, I'll write in here. Hope you don't expect any regular updates, this is just a work in progress.
