A/N: I joined a great Harry/Hermione Discord (discord dot gg/2GcXw8R) a few months back and have written several drabbles over that time as part of their biweekly prompt event. I've been meaning to put them up here for posterity but just hadn't got around to it. Given the truly awful things going on right now in America I was motivated to get off my ass and (hopefully) provide a little distraction for anyone interested. Seemed more productive than hiding in a bunker…
Fair warning…all of these are relatively short and based on a specific prompt or idea sparked from a discussion.
First up is one based on the prompt Hermione finds out about the Dursley's treament of Harry.
As she surveyed the sparse bedroom where he had been raised Hermione did her best to hide the scowl that desperately wanted to break through. Apparently she had done a poor job of it as Harry refused to make eye contact with her as he began gathering up the few things he wanted to keep from the wretched place.
"It wasn't that bad," he finally offered half heartedly. "Loads better than-"
"Loads better than what, Harry?" Hermione demanded more harshly than she had intended after several seconds of silence.
He pulled out a slightly crumbled envelope that had just been stowed away in his bag and stared at it in consideration.
"My Hogwarts acceptance letter," he stated simply as he handed it to her before resuming his task.
She exited the room in a near sprint…not slowing until she was in front of the small cupboard under the stairs. Hermione immediately and viscerally wanted to torch it and everything else in the place. Magic made it so easy to destroy…too easy. But she had made a promise to Harry.
She forced herself not to look inside…not trusting herself to keep her promise if she saw any more.
"All done," she heard him mutter a few minutes later as he descended the steps. She had no idea how long she had been standing there. She quickly wiped her eyes and nodded as she reached for his hand and gave it a squeeze.
"Let's go home."
