Hopefully depressing. I wrote this halfway through reading Magic's Promise (again).

Every Day I'm More Alone

They say 'tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all,
But my heart would not believe this true
When I saw my lover fall.

Alone was I for many years
Now I have power and fame,
But still I sorrow, for in the cool breezes
I hear my dead lover's name.

One by one, my friends pass away
Defending our country and home,
How can I be naught but solitary?
Every day I'm more alone.

Gone two more Herald-Mages
At least they died together,
I avenged their deaths, but this helps be not
For to me they're lost forever.

Mother, teacher, aunt who knows
Went before her time,
Now I'm the last, and I'll mourn ever more
But the Dark Adept is mine.

I, the last, too high to be touched
Powerful, distant, and cold,
No friends have I left, no more can I make
The ice has my heart in it's hold.

It hurts me to know that none can come close
But experience has shown,
That I can be naught but solitary
And every day I'm more alone.
