This story originally started as a secret Santa gift that I received from a friend on Discord. We began to discuss headcanons until this mess was created. At first, I began to post these little stories on Tumblr during the beginning of quarantine. I didn't have enough time to work on my multi chapters and I used 0 brain cells to come up with this, so I guess it was a great way to unwind from the stress that my classes gave me. I planned to have at least 15 chapters until I would put this on AO3 or FF. But well my patience ran out. Thank you Kikiji for your input and enthusiasm!
The story is told in nonchronological order.
An odd silence filled the room. If someone would enter right now, they would immediately notice that something was amiss. The root of the issue, however, could not be deduced easily from just a glance.
The young-looking mother was smiling with glee at her independent, adult daughter who in turn was just speechlessly staring at the couple in front of her. Her mother was joyfully latching on the arm of the man next to her. The man, however, did not express any type of countenance at all.
"What?" The daughter finally answered almost speechless.
Noticing her daughter's lack of reaction the mother puffed her cheeks, "I can't believe this daughter of mine! Mama has taken all this time to see her favourite daughter inform her that she has a new papa and this is the reaction I get?! Crystal, I have raised you better than that!" Despite her words, her tone was closer to a teenager who was complaining to their parents.
"I haven't seen, nor heard anything from you in months and now you appear out of thin air with a boyfriend." Crystal answered honestly, "To be honest, this is something you would do. Where did you even meet him?"
"I picked him up in the mountains! The same mountain where I left you to train when you were five years old!" The mother could not contain her glee as she shared her story with her daughter. "I found him passed out and decided to nurse him back to health. He was very pleased with my cooking. During that time we grew close and I decided to keep him." The mother glanced back at her boyfriend with a gaze that was similar to a love-struck newlywed.
"Now, Crystal come here and introduce yourself." Compared to her behaviour a few seconds ago, the mother took a 180 degrees change in her attitude.
Crystal got up from her seat and gave a polite bow. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir. My name is Crystal. I work for Professor Oak."
"I'm Kirei Kotomine, the pleasure is mine," Kirei answered equally in a polite tone.
"Kirei?" Crystal repeated the name in surprise and gave her mother an astonishing glance.
"Our names are similar! Mirei and Kirei! It was fate that brought us together!" Mirei exclaimed in seer happiness.
Crystal glanced at Kirei before she turned her attention back to her mother, his personality was a stark contrast to her mother's, but she did not see anything wrong with him. "As long as you're happy. I support you in all your sane decisions." She gave the couple a merry smile.
"My daughter is so cute! Come and let mama hug you!" Mirei immediately locked her daughter in a tight embrace. "You have become such a beautiful and strong individual. I'm so proud of you! We really are similar. Don't you agree, darling?"
The woman locked her gaze with her lover.
"I have observed some similarities between the two of you," Kirei commented.
"Then, I will go and prepare some tea. You two should use this opportunity to do some father and daughter bonding!" Mirei proclaimed suddenly. She let go of her lover and happily skipped away to the kitchen, leaving Kirei and Crystal in awkward silence.
"... Did— Did your mother leave you on a mountain's for training at the age of five?"
