Chapter 6

Professor Oak had a huge headache after Ash let out the two Pokémon from the Ultra and great balls and explained how he had just run across Mew and she brought them to save the other Pokémon who apparently went by the name of Mewtwo. "I don't quite believe it Ash." Professor Oak said making Ash look a bit hurt and confused.

"What do you mean Professor?" Ash asked as Mewtwo started to growl slightly in irritation.

"Don't get me wrong Ash," Professor Oak said gently looking at the boy in front of him. "I know new Pokémon are discovered everyday but for you to first claim that you have seen Ho-Oh on your first days as a trainer to the most dangerous chases to this where Mew, the legendary Pokémon who has never been seen by anyone, asked you to help it's kin Mewtwo from a dangerous situation…it's just hard to believe completely."

Ash looked at the professor with an expression that screamed hurt. "You think I am lying?"

"No Ash." Professor Oak said. "I know you too well and for you to lie means that you would be facing your mother in a matter of minutes with a quick phone call." He leaned back in his chair. "Mysteries of a journey can vary from person to person but I just haven't heard of a legendary actually grabbing a random Pokémon trainer for help then asking that trainer to capture them especially considering the danger it could face if it grabbed the wrong trainer. There is also the fact that you captured 50 other Pokémon almost at the same time as Mew and Mewtwo which, other than your Tauros incident, is almost as impossible."

"Professor," Brock said. "I know it seems impossible but when Ash is around, the word impossible doesn't seem to apply to situations in everyday life."

"Like how Team Rocket kept trying to get Pikachu with dangerous antics before giving up." Misty said.

"And how Aerodactyl nearly killed Ash." Brock said.

"And how-" Misty started but got interrupted by Professor Oak.

"I get it." He said sighing. "All I am saying that you will need to keep these two Pokémon a secret Ash."

"I planned on that Professor Oak." Ash frowned. "Nobody besides you has access to my Pokédex files anyway right?"

"Not exactly Ash." Professor Oak said. "I did lock down their files completely so that nobody but me can look at their names and type but others will see that you have captured two unknown Pokémon. You will probably be sought after by those wanting to know what you have captured."

"I understand." Ash said confidently. "I already knew that I would most likely be on the radar the moment they were captured."

Professor Oak looked at Ash seriously for a moment then nodded. "Now, I have to inquire about their powers." Oak took out a notepad and pen. "I won't put it in the computer until I write what all they have. This way I can leave out the telling signs that they are rare and leave in the ones that will have people make their own decisions on what Pokémon you have."

"Well…" Ash hesitated before looking at Mew and Mewtwo. "I don't know much about what they all can do other than Psychic, Shadow Ball, and Telepathy but that's about it."

"Telepathy?" Oak said. "That's rare. Which one has it?"

"Both but Mew gets tired out from using it too often." Ash said before looking at Mewtwo as he stood against a table with his arms crossed and eyes closed with Mew on his shoulder. "Would you like to explain your abilities?"

Mewtwo opened his eyes and looked at Ash before sighing. "If it helps." He said making Professor Oak slightly jump at the deep sounding voice.

"Wonderful!" The professor got an eager look on his face. "So I wrote down the ones Ash told me of for both of you but what are your sole abilities?"

Mewtwo turned his head towards Professor Oak and said, "Along with those three, I also have Telekinesis, Supernova Ball, Memory Wipe, Flight, Levitation, Psystrike, Disable, Heal, Hyper Beam, Speed, Mind Control, Shields, Intimidation, and Teleportation. I can withstand being underwater for an undetermined amount of time with the help of my psychic bubble shield and can overpower an attack with the help of psychic."

"Any weaknesses?"

"Not that I am aware of."

Professor Oak nodded. "Now I need to know Mew's powers."

Mew looked at the professor before floating a little bit away from Mewtwo before hovering in his face. "Can you translate for me when I describe my powers? I don't want to tire out before the day is over." She said to Mewtwo in her Pokémon language.

"Why do I have to translate?" Mewtwo asked glaring at her. "You can do perfectly well telling your own moves before getting tired."

"I just did a whole bunch of it yesterday! I can't keep straining my powers especially to humans who I shouldn't even be trying to communicate with in the first place! It's against the rules for most humans to even hear me speak!" She shook a paw in his face.

"That's not my problem now is it?" Mewtwo turned away. "I wasn't the one who made those rules and you have broken them before."

"You just need to do it this once! While I trust Ash and his friends, I cannot just reveal my speech to a complete stranger!" Mew huffed.

"It isn't like he can steal your voice Mew!" Mewtwo shouted back making Mew shrink a bit away from him. "I may be willing to be part of Ash's Pokémon journey but I am not going to be a translator for every little thing a Pokémon wants to say!" He got close to Mew's face letting out a growl of complete anger and his eyes slightly glowing. "You will not ask me this ever again." Mewtwo leaned back and turned away from them all putting up a bubble shield around himself to block out everything while he calmed his emotions down.

Mew gulped in her guilt and nodded before floating over to Ash and settling down in his head in sadness and shame. "Professor," Misty said. "Why don't we wait on getting Mew's powers written down."

The professor nodded and set aside his notebook. "Very well." He said. "Ash, why don't you go out and see your other Pokémon while letting the ones in your Pokéballs play around with their friends."

Ash nodded before glancing at Mewtwo really quick debating on whether he should disturb him but decided against it after a few minutes and walked out the door that led to the reserve followed by Brock and Misty. As the back door closed, Professor Oak turned to his computer and started inputting a little data about Mewtwo in the file. He decided that he would only put the powers of Psychic, Shadow Ball, Shield, and Heal down as his powers and, after a few moments of deliberation, he put down Dark, Bug, and Ghost type Pokémon. As he typed, he cautiously glanced over at Mewtwo a few times. He had dissipated the psychic bubble and had taken a seat on the couch that was set in the middle of the room, his paws were resting on his legs, his tail was beside him flicking slowly as his emotions changed, and his eyes were almost shadowed by inner turmoil.

"Mewtwo," Professor Oak said turning from his computer and gaining the Pokémon's attention. "I know it is hard to adjust to the life of being with a trainer but not all trainers are the same." He watched as Mewtwo looked at him, his purple eyes almost shining with intelligence.

"And how would you know?" Mewtwo asked. "You aren't a Pokémon."

"Indeed I am not." The professor sighed. "But I have watched time and time again trainers that capture Pokémon who hate humans. Those trainers either give the Pokémon away or abandon the Pokéball they are in somewhere in a forest."

"Is this supposed to get me to relax around you humans more?" Mewtwo asked sarcastically. "I know Ash isn't the same as those humans."

"Yes but you still feel trapped." Professor Oak sighed gently. "What I am saying is that Mew is feeling the same most likely. It is feeling trapped and only trusts you to translate what it is saying while in my presence most likely. I understand that Ash said it can talk through telepathy but tires out quickly. It probably wants to be aware enough for when it does tell me its powers, it wan monitor what I will be putting in the Pokédex so that humans cannot take advantage of it. It probably witnessed trainers who had abandoned Pokémon before due to the attitude they had towards their trainer and doesn't want to be seen as weak. It has a deep fear about talking to humans that are strangers most likely and it probably can't even admit that to itself."

Mewtwo looked down. "She said she would break a rule if she talked. I doubt it was this fear you speak of." He said.

Professor Oak shook his head. "Even if that were the case, Mew willingly got itself captured because it not only wants to be with Ash and his friends but it wants to be with you too."

"Why though." Mewtwo asked. "I don't understand why she even cares."

Professor Oak walked to the window that overlooked the reserve. "Mewtwo," he said turning to the Pokémon on the couch and gestured him over. "I want you to look out this window and tell me what all you see."

Mewtwo got up and walked over, looking out the window. He watched as the Pokémon both cloned and original played with each other and looked to be enjoying themselves while Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, and Mew sat on the grass with a Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Togepi talking and laughing. "They all look…" he struggled to find a word. "Content with each other."

"Yes but they also all look happy." Professor Oak said gently. "They all are together in one place and no hatred is to be found. Only some disagreements that are settled with a quick battle here and there but nothing that would destroy each others trust." Professor Oak walked back to his computer but turned to Mewtwo one more time. "Just try and get a feel for the atmosphere around everyone. Look and observe everything with an open mind Mewtwo. Remember that kindness can be found even in the most dire situations and to find it you must first find kindness in yourself." He then disappeared from view.

Mewtwo didn't understand what Professor Oak meant by finding kindness in himself. He didn't know how to find this kindness that was spoken of. He looked out the window again watching all the Pokémon play with each other and didn't have any sort of anger in their expressions only joy. Mewtwo sighed and rubbed his head as confusion and frustration clouded his mind and he sat down on the floor under the window. "I just don't understand…" he said quietly. "Nothing make sense anymore…" he looked at his paws clenching them over and over again as if with that motion everything would be understood.

He leaned his head back and gazed up at the white tiled ceiling and let his mind wander. He thought about Doctor Fuji, Team Rocket, the clone Pokémon, Mew, and his life up until this point. He wanted to know what happiness was. He wanted to try his hardest to become something other than what he was originally created for. He desperately wanted to learn but he just didn't know how someone like him could possibly be anything else other than a tool.

Mewtwo sat there for quite a while before the back door opened revealing Ash walking in and laughing. "Yeah I'll ask Professor Oak to call mom to see if she can bring some food!" He said loudly before closing the door again. He turned to walk to the main room but noticed Mewtwo on the ground. "Mewtwo?" He asked kneeling down next to him. Mewtwo looked over at Ash blankly before looking back up to the ceiling. "What are you doing on the floor here?"

"Thinking." Mewtwo said.

"May I ask about what?"

Softly shaking his head no Mewtwo got up. "It's nothing important." He said. "Call your mom and get that food your friends want." He walked over to the back door and opened it. "I'll be out back with the others." He then walked out into the reserve, shutting the door behind him. He felt the breeze and slowly relaxed as the smell of the grass and the sounds of Pokémon. He looked around and saw that Misty, Brock, Mew, and Pikachu haven't noticed him yet so he walked over to a tree that was close by the home and levitated himself up to the second highest and thickest branch and settled against the trunk of the tree just watching the activities below him.

Ash soon came back through the door and looked around trying to spot Mewtwo before shrugging and sitting back down next to Misty and Brock asking them something before they shook their heads. Mewtwo didn't really care about them wanting to know where he was and just watched as Mew looked about with Pikachu before shrugging and continue to play with the Bulbasaur and Squirtle but subtlety, Mew caught his eye and nodded before continuing like nothing had happened. Mewtwo was slightly surprised but shook off the emotion and looked up in the canopy the the sun shining through the leaves and slowly dozed off in the tree.

"Mewtwo!" A yell called loudly startling Mewtwo as he sat ramrod straight accidentally loosing control over his psychic and causing the tree he was in to get all their leaves to be pulled off their branches and hover in the air revealing to everyone on the ground to where he was. "There you are Mewtwo!" The voice said from below him and he looked downwards revealing that Ash was the one to call him with Pikachu on his shoulder. "Time to eat! Mom brought a huge collection of food!"

Mewtwo blinked at Ash blankly for a second before controlling all the leaves to hover over the boy and Pikachu. "Rule number one Ash…" Mewtwo said ominously as the huge pile of leaves floated above Ash making the boy freeze in terror with Pikachu.

"Y…yes?" He asked as he smiled nervously.

"Don't startle me awake." Mewtwo then let go of his control and the leaf pile fell on top of Ash and Pikachu before he hopped down off the tree walking away to the back door of Professor Oaks lab.

"Wait!" Ash called but was too late as Mewtwo entered the lab and immediately came face to face with a young woman with long red hair in a ponytail, pale skin, light brown eyes, a yellow short sleeved shirt under a pink one button cardigan both reaching her waistline, a blue skirt on that reached her knees, and a tray of food in her hands.

She wore a surprised expression on her face before it immediately turned into a smile giving off a warm sensation in Mewtwo's chest. "Why hello!" She greeted softly taking in Mewtwo's guarded expression before noticing Ash and Pikachu covered in leaves behind him. "You must be Ash's newest Pokémon member!" Mewtwo just nodded stiffly. "Well then come and eat! I've made a whole bunch of food for my son and his friends! You must be hungry as well."

Mewtwo looked at Ash as soon as the woman turned away. "Who is that?" He quietly demanded to him making Ash hold up his hands in a peaceful gesture.

"She's my mom." Ash said just as quietly. "She comes over to Professor Oak's sometimes but when I called and asked her to bring food she decided to stay to get details on my journey. I tried to warn you before you entered the door."

Mewtwo sighed. "Has she seen Mew as well?"

"Yes but she doesn't really care on who Mew is. Only that she is the most adorable Pokémon that she has ever seen." Ash tilted his head. "Why?"

"No reason." Mewtwo then headed into the main lab where there was a table laid out with foods of all kinds sitting on it. As he pulled out a chair and sat he noticed that Mew was across from him, Misty beside her, Brock beside her, Ash and Pikachu across from Brock, Oak next to ash, himself, and at the head of the table on the other side of him was Ash's mom. He felt very confined but picked up a plate and put some strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, broccoli, lettuce, and some tomatoes on it. He laid the plate down and picked up his fork with his telekinesis and started to eat.

"I didn't properly introduce myself before." Ash's mother said to Mewtwo. "My name is Delia Ketchum. I hear that you are my son's newest member. I hope he has been treating you well."

Mewtwo blinked at her for a moment before he answered. "I have not been with him very long but yes, he has been accommodating to my needs properly Mrs. Ketchum."

Delia smiled. "That is wonderful!" She ate a piece of a mini sandwich that was on her plate before continuing. "Ash takes such good care of his Pokémon but I never was able to talk to one who could talk back to me."

"And it does not bother you that I can speak?"

"While slightly surprising, I have heard too many tales to be put off my something like a talking Pokémon. Why the Team Rocket members who chased my son had a talking Meowth from what my son has told me."

"I see." Mewtwo said before continuing his meal. He listened around him as the kids all laughed as they described their adventures since the last time they have been to visit. He turned his attention to Mew as she stayed silent through the meal. "Mew." He said quietly gaining her attention. "I would like to apologize for my reaction earlier. After this meal I will help translate your powers to the professor if it still is what you would like to do." Mew immediately perked up and lunged itself from its spot onto Mewtwo making him fall back in his chair onto the floor. "I would appreciate it if you would get off me though." He grumbled making everyone around him laugh slightly.

"Come on Mew." Delia said. "The longer you hug him, the more time he'll need to eat. If it takes too long you may need to wait until tomorrow to tell Professor Oak your powers." Immediately Mew hopped off Mewtwo and sat back on her place at the table. Mewtwo laid there a tiny bit longer before getting up, sitting the chair back up, and resuming his place at the table.

"Please stop doing that." Mewtwo said to Mew but she just shrugged as she nibbled on her food making Mewtwo sigh in exasperation.

As the dinner progressed, Mewtwo had to wonder why he even decided to be captured instead of just deciding to observe things from the shadows or even try to stop the Team Rocket organization permanently in order to live in the world with minimal worries about humans finding him. Oh right… he decided to do this to teach Ash how to truly battle but then, why did it feel like so much more is happening? He frowned and looked around the table carefully and noted how everyone was smiling but no matter how hard he tried he could not find it in him to even try to be happy. He didn't understand how these emotions helped people and Pokémon to become stronger and understand others better. Suddenly, a bowl cracked from beside him and everybody paused what they were doing.

"How did that happen?" Delia wondered aloud as she got up and grabbed the bowl. It had a huge crack down the side of it in the shape of a lightning bolt. Mewtwo instantly grabbed his head as a huge headache erupted from the forefront of his mind and blurry images started to appear to him. It seemed like ages that the headache kept on erupting in wave after painful wave and he immediately collapsed to the floor as he tried to get up causing everything around him to become chaos. He heard the cries of Delia and Ash the most out of everyone in his headache inducing haze before slowly, the pain subsided and his vision was becoming clearer.

"Mewtwo?" a voice said gently. "Mewtwo are you okay?"

Mewtwo looked up, breathing heavily and recognized Delia kneeling beside him with an expression of concern on her face. "I…" he whispered. "I do not know what happened."

"It's alright Mewtwo." She said just as gently before. "Here." She held out a cup of water. "You were screaming in pain. Your throat must be sore."

"Yes." Mewtwo sat up carefully taking the cup and sipping on the water. "Thank you for the water."

"Of course." Delia smiled at him. "You seemed to be in such pain. Mew used some of its power to help you the best of its ability."

"How long have I been in pain?" Mewtwo asked.

"For about a half hour I'm afraid." She said. "The others are cleaning up. We aren't sure what happened to be fully honest. Everything flew everywhere and some things started to float but it wasn't from a psychic ability. There was nothing surrounding the objects and Mew couldn't even pull them back down."

Mewtwo closed his eyes. "Did I harm anyone?"

"No sweetie." Delia put a gentle hand on his leg making him snap his eyes open and look at the hand in utter confusion. "No one was harmed."

"What is the sentiment of your action?" He asked.

"It is a form of comfort. An understanding from one to another that lets them know everything will be okay."

"What if it happens again though?"

"Then we will work it out Mewtwo." A new voice answered as a figure walked behind Delia and lowered to reveal Ash smiling at him as gently as his mother was. "Nothing can turn me away from being with a friend."

Mewtwo just stared at the two in front of him as even more confusion raged through his mind. "But I could have hurt you." He said. "And after…" he looked at Delia quickly. "Never mind. I just don't understand. You should be angry at me."

Ash laughed as he sat back and went into Indian style. "Mewtwo, if I got angry with every incident my Pokémon have caused that got me hurt I would have absolutely no Pokémon at all." He laughed. "My Charizard is a perfect example. While I rescued him from an abusive trainer and earned his respect, as soon as he evolved into his final form he started to disrespect me and he even blows a flamethrower in my face. I never get hurt bad by it but I don't get angry at him for it. He just wants to battle things that are strong and challenge everything that he is put up against. I can never hold a grudge to any one of either my friends or my Pokémon."

Mewtwo just stared at the two before him and looked down to the cup of water that held his reflection. "I just don't understand." He whispered.
