Why is she so confusing?
Marinette Dupain-Cheng confused him, she shouldn't but the girl who was his senior by one year managed to confuse him everytime he talked to or thought of her. Ever since he had entered Hogwarts he had been told that Slytherin's were all evil to their core, that they all became dark wizards and that none of them had any redeeming factors, but there she sat at the Slytherin defying everything that he had been told by Ron, Hagrid and "Proven" by Malfoy.
Next to him, Ron elbowed him in the chest 'Harry mate? Is anyone there?' He shook his head and replied 'Sorry, what was it you were saying Ron?' to his red headed friend. Ron rolled his eyes as Hermione broke into the conversation and said 'Ron was saying "You're staring at the Snakes again Mate, is everything okay?" Before he elbowed you'. Harry chuckled quietly, 'Just in my own little world Ron, don't worry about it.' Looking further up the Gryffindor table to find Marinette's best friend laughing with the Weasley Twins as they wrote something down onto a piece of parchment. Marrinette Dupain-Cheng and Alya Cesere, best friends from two seperate houses who hated each other's guts with a passion that had lasted centuries and yet they had a stronger friendship than basically anyone else in the castle. Some even said that they had to be family because of how close they were despite being in Slytherin and Gryffindor. Some also said that they had known each other before Hogwarts, however several people in the years confirmed that Alya and Marinette met for the first time on the Hogwarts train at the start of their first year. Both clearly just cared about themselves so much.
Along the table Alya said something loud in french which was most likely her cursing as most of the time there weren't enough people around her who understood the french language to get her in trouble. However this year things were different because of the triwizard Tournament and several members of Beauxbatons turned to glare at Alya which just confirmed that shad cursed and she quietened down a fair bit. Quickly glancing back at the Slytherin Table he saw Marinette chuckle at her friend quickly before returning to what she was doing which was currently helping one of Harry's own year….Davies, he thinks her last name was. Turning back he thought about how many of her qualities were almost the complete opposite of your typical Slytherin.
To Start with she was braver than most Griffindors which was shown during Harry's second year and her third one where she joined Harry and Ron along with her friends Alya, Nino and Adrien in defeating the Basilisk and Tom RIddle who had been terrorising the school that year, MArinette putting her life on the line along with Adrien to keep the overgrown snake and Riddle distracted while Alya helped him slay the Basilisk with the sword of Gryffindor. If that had been Malfoy down there instead or even Chloé, Marinette's opposite, then he would have been left for dead. But she looked past house differences and Saved them all anyway.
Then there was the fact that she was loyal to her friends more than almost any hufflepuff other than her friends such as the ones mentioned before, willing to help them if they ever needed help and standing up to bullies including other people in her own house which he knew from overhearing conversations made her less than popular with her Housemates. He had even asked her with some help with some Runes homework he was doing for Supplementary classes and she had gone through the entire thing with him over multiple nights until he understood exactly what everything meant, earning him a perfect score on the test at the end of that same week.
Cracking his back and neck quickly he caught a glimpse of the Ravenclaw table where he saw the blond headed Adrien Agreste, staring at Marinette, a light blush on his face before looking away the second she looked around to find out who was staring at her, her own glaze resting on him for a couple seconds, a dreamy look appearing in her bluebell coloured eyes.
Harry was definitely not the brightest soul when it came to love, he was more than willing to admit that but even he could tell that the two of them liked each other and just didn't have the guts to tell eachother, which made the game of Cat and Mouse they seemed to play with each other all the worse with their constant flirting that just went straight past the other. At the rate they were going, Harry was more likely to end up asking Marinette out than Adrien was. Suddenly Nino Lahiffe the Hufflepuff of their little gang stood up walking over to Adrien, his muggle cap almost falling off his head as he did so, only being sorted by Adrien who noticed once he noticed Nino was right next to them. The Two of them promptly left the room to do something, Hermione said almost reading his thoughts 'I think it's to do with the Yule ball, I heard Alya talk to Nino about the ball a couple of days ago.' Speaking of the red headed girl there was another burst of angry french from the girl before something blew up in the Weasley twins faces making them burst out laughing.
Over at the Slytherin table, Marinette yelled something in french to Alya, a giant grin on her face which made Alya storm over to her grabbing the other girl by her hair and dragging her out of the room. Up at the headmaster's table he was surprised that neither Shape nor Professor Mcgonagal were doing anything to stop them. But then again they probably trusted the two prefects. As a Matter of fact Snape just looked annoyed as Chloé complained to him, most likely about Marinette as she normally did. Looking at Professor Mcgonagal, she noticed that she was talking to Lady Eda who had come with one of the non participating schools, Hexside. The two of them were laughing and Harry had to admit that despite his name coming out of the Goblet things seemed to be going well. Suddenly he felt a tapping on his shoulders and he turned around with a lot of force to find his face right against Davies who said 'Potter. Marinette wanted me to tell you she figured out what the egg does, meet her in an hour in the study classroom' shrugging her shoulders as she finished the sentence. His eyes fluttered and next to him Ron said 'What did that snake want?' Harry shrugged his shoulders trying to work out what the most confusing girl in school had worked out about the egg.'
The Yule Ball
Marinette and Adrien slowly danced to the music that had calmed down from the earlier frantic pace and allowed themselves to enjoy each other's presence. In the past month he finally saw her truly cunning side which made her a Slytherin as she single handedly managed to reveal that the real Moody had been trapped within a chest in Crouch Jr.s office. He was amazed at how she had managed to set the trap for him after just seeing one single slip up for the man, managing to drag Adrien into her plan without a second thought, getting the entire tournament cancelled until the next year where only the three actual contestants would competent even if they were 18/19 when they finally got to compete without any unfairness.
Harry's own surprise date was grabbing the two of them drinks to enjoy the rest of the night. Out the corner of his eyes he could see Alya and Nino kissing each other as they slowly danced, not hiding their love for eachother from anyone. Then again so were a lot of the students from across the 4 schools. Luz and Amity from Hexside who had found a small corner to be together, Champion Fleur and her partner, Cedric and Cho who had stolen the stage earlier and his partner. All the students from Hogwarts who came from Paris who were dating were also showing their love for eachother and he could tell Dumbledore was glad the yule ball had at least worked out well.
Just then his date returned with some butterbeer and replied 'Daphne checked that the Weasley twins hadn't spiked the drinks, for us.' He smiled at his Brunette date and said 'Thanks Tracey, you will have to thank Greengrass for me, Don't think she trusts me yet' Tracey smiled before looking at Marinette and Adrien and said 'They look Happy.' He nodded, taking a sip from his drink, 'they deserve it' a couple of seconds later the pair kissed in an embrace. Marinette was the perfect example of what someone should be and that's why she had confused him so much, because she was what everyone should act like, caring, loyal, friendly and ambitious. Adrien was just one of the few people to see that straight away, despite his dark past. Turning to face his date, he asked her, 'want to dance?' joining the pair on the dancefloor.
