I get woken up by the sound of my dad banging around in the kitchen. I sit up and rub my eyes, before glancing at the clock on the wall. I groan when I see that it's 8 in the morning. It's too early in the morning. I was about to lie back down when I hear my dad shouting.
"Wake up, come on, it's time to get out of bed."
I sigh loudly. There's no chance of going back to sleep now. "I'm up dad. I will be down in a minute."
"Ok, and hurry up, I've got something to show you."
"Ok" I get out of bed and walk over to my wardrobe and pull out my clothes for today. I walk into the bathroom and take a quick shower and get changed into my clothes. I was about to put my shoes on but stopped when I realise that I'm not going out anywhere.
I put my hair into a a low ponytail and leave my room. I walk across the landing, down the stairs and into the kitchen. I look around and see dad sitting at the table. He looks at me and gives me a little smile. I smile back and walk over to him.
"Good morning, dad" I say, kissing his cheek.
"Good morning, Ava. Did you sleep ok?"
"Yeah, I slept fine" I say, putting some bread into the toaster. He just nods and carries on reading his newspaper. I jump when the bread pops up in the toaster, which makes dad smirk. I roll my eyes and butter my toast. I walk over to the table, sit down and start eating whilst I try to work out what dad is going to show me.
Once I've finished eating, dad hands me a letter, which makes me frown a little. "Open it then" he says. I nod and open the envelope. I pull out the letter, unfold it and gasp when I see it's my Hogwarts letter. I grin to myself and start reading.
Dear Miss, A Snape,
We are pleased to inform you that you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Please find enclosed a list of all necessary book and equipment.
Term begins on 1st of September, we await your owl by no later than 31st July.
Ours sincerely, Minerva McGonagall'
I've been dreaming about going to Hogwarts ever since I got my first letter, 3 years ago, but for some reason, dad said I wasn't allowed to go, it was for my own safety apparently. I'm not really sure what he meant by that, but I accepted his answer. I learnt from a young age to keep my mouth shut when dad doesn't want to talk about something.
Since I wasn't allowed to go to Hogwarts, dad sent me to a Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, which is in France. I stayed there for 2 years and only saw my dad at Christmas and the summer holidays. I didn't like being so far away from dad, so after begging him for months, he finally agreed to bring me home. I thought he was going to let me go to Hogwarts, but no.
I had to stay with Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy, whilst dad was teaching at Hogwarts. He would come home every night where we spend a few hours together before he went back to school and I went back to the Malfoy's. I didn't mind that though, because one, I got to spend time with my dad, and two, I enjoyed staying with Lucius and Narcissa.
Plus, the first weekend of every month, dad would bring Draco home and we would spend the whole weekend together. Draco is Lucius and Narcissa son and my best friend.
"Are you excited?" I hear dad asks.
I look up from my letter and look at him. "Of course I'm excited, but why are you finally letting me go to Hogwarts?"
"There's been some strange things happening lately, and I want you close to me so I can keep an eye on you."
"What strange things?" I ask, but dad doesn't answer me and just shrugs. I sigh, knowing that I'm not going to get anything out of him.
He looks at me. "You will be going to Diagon Alley today with Lucius and Draco so you can get your things you need for school. I would love to take you, but I have some business to take care of at Hogwarts."
"It's fine, I understand how busy you can get. I don't mind going with them."
"Good girl, anyway, go and get your shoes and coat on, you're leaving in 15 minutes."
I nod and rush off upstairs and into my room. I pick up my shoes off the floor and put them, then I grab my coat and bag from out of the wardrobe.
I look at my nightstand and see the picture of my mom. It's a moving photo of me and her in the hospital, she smiles down at baby me, then looks at the camera and smiles. It always makes me feel like she's smiling at me. I never knew my mom, she died when I was a year old. She was killed by an evil dark wizard named Voldemort, then one day, he just disappeared. No one knows why or how.
I walk over there and pick up the photo. I look like my dad, but I've got my mom's eyes, her beautiful green eyes. "Hey mom, guess what?" I say to the photo. I talk to her often, mainly at night. I would lie in bed and tell her all about my day.
"I'm going to Hogwarts this year! Dad has just given me my letter. I'm going to Diagon Alley today so I can get everything I need for school, it's mainly my school books and robes that I need, since I've already got a wand."
"Ava!" dad shouts from the bottom of the stairs. "You're going to be late."
"Coming dad" I shout back. I look at the photo. "I've got to go, but I will tell you everything when I get back" I kiss the photo. "Love you mom."
I put it back on my nightstand and head downstairs. I walk into the living room and see dad standing by our fireplace, I'm using the Floo Network to get to the Malfoy's. I hate using the Floo Network because I always fall over when I land in the other fireplace.
I walk over to dad and he looks at me. "Be good when you're out today" he warns, as he hands me my money.
"I will dad, I promise." I look at him. "Do you need anything while I'm there?"
"No sweetheart, I'm fine. Here's your list of everything you will need."
"Thank you" I take it from him and put it in my bag.
"I want you home for 6 o'clock."
"Ok dad" I pick up some Floo power and throw it into the fire and none harmful green flames appear. I look at dad. "I will see ya later" I say, stepping into the flames. "The Malfoy's."
Draco P.O.V
I'm sitting at my dining room table, Ava should be turning up any minute. I'm so glad that her father is finally letting her come to Hogwarts this year. It will be more fun having Ava there with me.
Just then I hear a noise coming from my fireplace, I look and see her lying on the floor. "Ugh! One of these days I'm going to land on my feet" she says to herself. I laugh, makes her look at me. She quickly stands up and brushes down her clothes. "I didn't fall over."
I stand up and walk over to her. She grins at me. "I'm going to Hogwarts!"
"I know, my father told me this morning. I'm glad you're starting Hogwarts this year."
"Me too" She looks at me. "Would you disown me if I'm sorted into a different house?"
"Yes, so you better get into Slytherin" I laugh because of the look on her face. "I'm kidding you idiot. I don't care what house you're in."
"Ok, good" she says, sighing in relief. "I thought you were serious for a second there."
"Did you really think that I would disown you?"
"I dunno, but you said that with a straight face, so I couldn't tell if you were joking or not."
"I'm joking, I mean, it would be nice having you in Slytherin, but we will definitely still be friends no matter what house you're in."
Ava was about to say something, but stopped when my father walked into the room. He looks at us. "Ava, good, you're ready here" he walks over to us. "Ready to go?" we nod.
"You two go first and wait for me in the Leaky Cauldron" we nod again and I pick up some Floo Power and throw it into the fireplace. We step inside and Ava grabs hold of my arm.
"The Leaky Cauldron" I say and we disappear and reappear in the Leaky Cauldron fireplace. I feel Ava falling next to me, but she grips my arms and stops herself from falling.
"If only it was like that all of the time" she sighs.
"I'm sure you will get the hang of it soon" I say, as we step out of the fireplace.
"I've been using the Floo Network since I was 4, if I haven't mastered it by now, then I don't think I ever will."
I laugh as my father lands in the fireplace. We walk to the back of the pub and into the the little courtyard.
"I thought we were going to Diagon Alley?" Ava asks confused. Oh right, I forget she's never been here before.
"We are" I say.
"But we are in a courtyard" she says, looking around.
"Not for much longer" my father says, pulling out his wand. Ava frowns when he starts tapping the wall with his wand. She jumps back when the brick start moving on their own. She watches in amazement as they make an archway bigger enough for us to walk through.
"Awesome" Ava smiles. My father smirks at her whilst putting his wand away. We follow him through the wall and walk down the street. I look around and notice that everyone backed away from my father when they see him walking towards them. I smirk to myself.
We almost bump into him when he suddenly stops walking. He turns around and looks at us. "Right, children, I've got some important business to take care off, so I will meet you back here in one hour. Do not go anywhere else, and stick together, do you understand me?"
"Yes father" I say "yes sir" Ava says, but we end up saying them together. My father nods and walks off.
I look at Ava. "Right then, where shall we go first?"
"Erm" she pull out her list from her bag and looks at it. "How about the robe shop?"
I nod and we walk over to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. We walk in and Madam Malkin looks at us. "Hogwarts, dears?"
"Just Ava" I say, pointing to her.
She nods and we followed her to the back of the shop where she stood Ava on a stool, throw a long robe her head and began to pin it to the right length. I look around the stop, remembering the first time I saw Potter in there. Ugh Potter! He was a cocky little sod back then, still is actually.
I don't understand why everyone loves him so much. He's nothing special. I mean sure, he got rid of the Dark Lord and that, but that doesn't mean people need to give him special treatment, and let him get away with breaking every rule that Hogwarts has.
"That's you done, my dear" Madam Malkin says, snapping me out of my thoughts. Ava jumps off the stool and we followed Madam Malkin back into the shop where Ava paid for her robes. We left the stop and headed to Flourish and Blotts so we could buy our school books.
I look at my watch as we leave the book shop. "We still have 15 minutes before we meet my father, so do you want to get some ice-cream?"
"Of course, I would never say no to ice-cream" she looks at me. "Do you want to put your books in my bag?"
I look at her small bag and frown. "I don't think my books will fit in there."
"They will. There's an Undetectable Extension Charm on my bag, so it means I can carry a lot of things in here without it getting any bigger."
"That's clever" I say as I put my book in her bag.
"I learnt it in my 2nd year at Beauxbatons."
"Do you miss Beauxbatons?" I ask as we walk over to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour.
"I don't miss the school because I didn't have any friends, but I miss France."
"I thought you had what's her face?"
"What's her face?" she repeats, laughing.
"I've forgotten her name."
"Sally, and she left at the end of my 1st year, remember? after that, I didn't really make friends with anyone."
"Well" I say putting my arm over her shoulder, "you have me now, and I'm not going anywhere."
She smiles at me and puts her arm around my back. Has we waited in the queue I notice Ava looking at something and smiling. I look at where she's looking and see that there's nothing there.
I frown at her. "What are you smiling at?"
"There was a black dog over there a second ago."
"You were smiling at a dog?" I ask, trying not to laugh.
"Yeah, it was cute" she looks at me. "I think it's following us."
"What makes you say that?"
"Because everywhere we have been so far, that dog as also been there."
"It's probably just a stray, it probably thinks you're going to give it food or something."
"Aww, now I feel bad."
"Why? It's just a dog."
"A hungry dog."
I roll my eyes and looks at her. "You go and sit down, and I'll get these."
"You don't ha -"
"I want to" I cut her off.
"Ok, but I buy the ice-cream next time."
"Deal"
She smiles, before walking off and sitting down at the table. I look at her and see that she pulling one of her school books out of her book. I shake my head, that's Ava, always got her head in a book.
I paid for our ice-cream and walk back over to the table. I look and see that Ava has her reading glasses on. "Hey cutie" I say grinning. She rolls her eyes, but smiles. I always call her cutie when she's wearing her glasses, mainly because she looks cute in them.
"Thank you" she says, as I hand her her ice-cream.
"Your welcome" I say, sitting down. "What book you reading anyway?"
"Our Defence Against the Dark Arts book. I wonder what the teacher is going to be like this year?"
"I don't know, hopefully better from what we have had before."
"I would have liked to meet Lupin, he sounded like a good teacher."
"How do you know that?"
"My dad told me about him, well, he mainly complained about him, but he still sounded like a nice person, and he taught you lot some cool things."
I was about to say something, but Ava cut me off, "The dogs back" she whispers. I look at her and she points behind her. I turn around and see a black dog running off. That was weird.
Once we have finished our ice-cream, we walk off down the street so that we can meet my father. Me and Ava are just talking when someone bumps into me. "Oi! Watch where you're going!" I say angrily. I look and see Potter standing there with Weasley and Granger.
"Eww, it's you 3" I hiss. Of all the people to bump into to, and we bump into them. Well, they bumped into us, but still. Why did it have to be them?
I look at them one by one and see Potter looking at Ava. Ava looks at him, gives him a little smile, then looks away from him, but Potter carries on looking at her. Why is he just looking at her?
"Trust us, you're the last person we wanted to bump into" Granger growled.
I look at her. "Don't talk to me like that, you filthy little Mud-Blood."
"Draco" Ava gasps in shock. She's never heard me talk like that before. I mean, she knows I hate Muggle-Borns, but I've never said Mud-Blood around her because she hates that word.
They all look at her, but Ava looks at me. I don't think she knows what to do. I walk over to her. "Come on, my father is waiting for us" she nods.
"That's right, run off to your Death Eater daddy" Weasley says.
I turn around and pull out my wand, making Potter and Weasley do the same. Ava quickly lowers my wand. "Don't Draco! You will get into trouble, let's just go" she says. I nod and put my wand away.
I glare at all of them. "Oh for god sake" Ava says, dragging me away. "What was all that about?" she asks, as we carry on walking down the street.
"Nothing, we just don't get on."
"Yeah, I saw that" she looks at me, then just punches me in the arm. "You know what that was for" she says, before I could ask her. I sigh and nod, knowing it was because I said Mud-Blood.
I look at her. "Potter wouldn't stop looking at you."
"That was Harry Potter?"
"Yes, and he was just looking at you."
"I saw him" she looks at me. "Maybe it was because we have the same eye colour" I rise my eyebrow at me. "Well we do. We both have the same green eyes.
"Yeah well, I didn't like the way he was looking at you" I say a little harsher than I meant too. Ava just links her arm with mine and I calm down.
We walk over to Gringotts and see my father stood outside. "Have you got all of your things?" he asks, when he sees us walking over to him.
"Yes father" I say, whilst Ava nods.
My father nods, then looks at hi watch. "It's only half 3" he looks at Ava. "What time does your father want you home for?"
"He wants me home for 6."
"Would you like to come back to the manor for dinner?"
"I would love too" she says, smiling. He nods and holds out his arm. We get it and Apparate in front of my manor.
My father opens the door and we walk inside. I look and see him trip Ava up. "Oh jeez!" she says, regaining her balance.
Me and my father laugh under our breath. I like seeing this side of him, I don't get to see him laugh that often, but he's always got a little smile on his face when Ava is around.
Ava looks at my father. "I will get you back for that"
"You can try" he smirks.
"Challenge accepted."
My father goes to say something, but gets cut off by my mother walking out of the living room. "I thought I heard voices."
"Troublemaker is joining us for dinner" my father says, pointing at Ava.
She moves back a little so that my father is pointing at me instead.
"Tut" I say, pulling her back to where she was standing before, which her, and my mother, laugh.
Just then we hear an owl hoot and it's coming from my fathers office. He goes to walk off but Ava trips him up. "Challenged complete" she says, grinning. My father glares at her, but we can all see that little smirk on his face.
"Draco, why don't you and Ava go upstairs and I'll call you when dinner is ready."
"Ok mother. Come on A" I grab her hand and drag her towards the stairs.
"Remember you two, the door stays open" my mother shouts.
"We know the rules" me and Ava shout back.
Ava goes to walk into my room but I stop her. "What?" she frowns.
"Do you want to go into our secret bedroom?"
She nods with a smile. It's not really a secret room since my mother and father know about it, but we've called it that for as long as I can remember since only me and Ava go in there.
We had been talking and laughing for about an hour when my mother called us down for dinner. We leave our secret room, walk across the landing, down the stairs and into the dinning room. I look at the table and see that that house elves have cooked us a shepherd's pie, and there's also a delicious chocolate cake at the end of the table.
"Chocolate cake" Ava says happily.
"You need to eat your dinner first" my father says.
"Can chocolate cake be my dinner?"
"No!"
"Worth a shot" she shrugs, sitting down at the table. I sit next to her and we eat our dinner in silence. Ava kept eyeing the chocolate cake as she ate. Once we all finished eating, my mother share out the cake and put some ice cream with it.
It's 6 o'clock and it's time for Ava to go home. She's already said good bye to my mother and father because they had to rush off to do something for work.
Ava throws some Floo Power into the fireplace, then looks at me. "I've really enjoyed today."
"Yeah, me too. Are you talking the train tomorrow?"
"I don't know, dad hasn't told me yet."
"Well, I'll either see you on the train or at school."
She nods and give me a hug. We pull apart and she walks into the fireplace.
"Try to land on your feet" I say grinning.
She rolls her eyes, but smiles. "See you soon."
I nod. "Bye A."
"Severus Snape living room" she says, before disappearing in the flames.
Ava P.O.V
I land in our fireplace, and yet again, I ended up on the floor. I swear, one of these days I'm going to get the hang of it, although, you would have thought I would have mastered it by now, especially since I've been using the Floo Network for years, but no, I still fall over, and it's very annoying.
"Seriously feet" I huff, lying on the floor. "Why won't you let me land on you?"
I hear dad laughing. He walk over to me and helps me up. "Have you had a nice day?"
"Yes, it's been fun, although Draco nearly got into a fight with Harry Potter and his 2 friends."
"What happened?"
I stand there and tell him what happened.
"Yes, well, Potter and his friends have always been trouble" I just nod.
It's later in the day and we are just sitting in the living room. Dad is reading the newspaper, and I'm reading one of his Potion books. I can't concentrate though because a question keeps playing over in my mind.
"What's wrong?" dad asks. "It looks like something is bothering you."
I look at him. "Can I ask you something?"
"Yes, of course" he say, putting down his newspaper.
"What house do you think I'm going to be in?"
"I'm not sure sweetheart, you have traits from all the houses. You're loyal like Hufflepuff. Smart like Ravenclaw. Brave like Gryffindor and cunning like Slytherin."
"And you wouldn't be upset if I wasn't in Slytherin?"
I know he secretly got his heart set on me bring in Slytherin, just like him and mom. "Of course not. I will be happy with whatever house you're in" he says, but I know he didn't mean it. I could tell by his eyes. I have to be in Slytherin, I have to make him and mom happy and proud.
I'm just sitting there when I remember what happened in Diagon Alley. "Dad, you know when I was out with Draco today?" He nods. "Well, there was this black dog that kept following us around."
I see him tense up a little. "Probably just a stray."
"Draco said the same, but it was weird the way he was acting. It would stare at us, they when we looked at it, it would run off."
"It was just a dog Ava" dad snaps, making me flinch a little because I wasn't expecting it.
"I know, it was just weird that's all" I mutter, before I carried on reading.
It's the next morning and I'm all packed and ready to go. I found out that I'm taking the train, I'm so excited. I will be going with the Malfoy's whiles dad goes straight to Hogwarts. Dad wanted me to go with him, but he knew how much I wanted to ride the train, so he said I can go because I will be safe with the Malfoy's.
I walk into the living room and find dad standing by the fireplace. "Ready to go?"
"Yes dad" I say, nodding.
"Remember, even though you're a 4th year you will still have to ride the boats over the lake with the 1st years, when you get there follow someone named Hagrid, he will tell you where to go, you will have to line up with the 1st years at the front of the stuff table, but because you're a 4th year, you will be sorted first."
I nod and give him a hug. "I will see you at school. I love you dad."
"I love you too, my Ava" I smile to myself.
We pull part and dad hands me a little. "Could you give this to Mr Malfoy for me please?"
"Yes dad, I can do that" I say smiling.
"Good girl. Now off you go, you don't won't to be late."
I walk into the fire, give dad a little wave before saying, "the Malfoy's."
I land in the Malfoy fireplace, and guess where I ended up? On the flapping floor. I seriously hate the Floo Network.
"I told you she would fall on the floor" Draco says. I couldn't see his face, but I know for a fact he's smirking
"I told you she would fall on the floor" I say, trying to mock Draco's voice.
"I don't sound like that" he says walking over to me.
"I don't sound like that" I mock.
"Draco is the best" he smirks.
"Nice try" I say, getting up off the floor. I look and see Lucius and Narcissa stood there. Narcissa smiles at me and pulls me into a motherly hug.
"I've missed this" I whisper. I feel Narcissa hug me tighter. She knows how much this means to me. Narcissa is the closet thing I've got to a mom, so little things like a hug mean the world to me.
"As much as I would love to stay like this, we really should be going before you and Draco miss the train" she says.
"Right, sorry" I pull away from her.
"Don't be sorry" she smiles.
I go to took my hair behind my ear only to realise I'm still holding the letter that's meant for Lucius.
"My dad asked me to give you this" I say, handing him the letter.
He takes it off me. "Thank you, Ava."
"Your welcome, sir" I say smiling.
We Apparate to the train station, Apparition means you can think of a place and you will appear there. How cool does that sound? I prefer this way of travelling, and when I'm 17 years old, I'm definitely going to learn how to do it.
Narcissa and Lucius helped me and Draco put our trunks on to the train, then we said our good byes and went on the train to find somewhere to sit.
"Here, Draco, this one is empty" he nods and we walk in and sit down next to each other. I look out of the window and smile.
"Ava -" Draco gets cut off by someone opening the door. I look and see a boy and girl stood there. The girl didn't look very happy when she saw me sitting next to Draco.
The boy pushes the girl into the compartment and they sit down opposite us. "Guys, this is Ava Snape. Ava, this is Blaise Zabini and Pansy Parkinson."
"Wait" Blaise says, looking at me. "Snape, as in Severus Snape?"
I nod. "I'm his daughter."
"I didn't know Snape had a kid" he frowned.
"He never mentioned me?" I ask, a little surprised that he never said anything.
"No, we don't know a lot about your father" Blaise says.
"Oh, he's like that, keeps himself to himself" he nods.
I see Pansy looking at me, I look at her and she gives me a nasty look. I wanted to give her one back, but my stupid eyes looked out of the window instead.
"Oi!" Draco hissed. "Stop looking at her like that!"
I look at him and he's looking at Pansy, she says something under her breath and looks at the floor. I look at Draco and he smiles, I just smile back.
We have been on the train for a bit and I've loved it. Me, Draco and Blaise have talked and laughed so much. I also meet Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, but everyone calls them by their last name.
They were shocked to find out I'm Snape's daughter, but they soon got over it and started talking and laughing with me, Draco and Blaise, something that Pansy didn't like at all. I don't think she liked that the boys were ignoring her, I mean we did try and get her to join in with us, but she refuse.
"Ava" Draco says. I look at him. "We are almost here so you might want to get changed into your robes."
"Where do I get changed?"
"The girls toilet are at the other end of the train" Blaise says.
"Which end?"
"Right end."
"Ok, I'll be back in a minute."
They nod and I grab my robes. I leave the compartment and turn right and walk until I found the bathroom. Once I've find it, I quickly get dressed into my robes, then head back to the compartment.
I'm just walking down the train when I bump into someone "sorry, I wasn't look -" I start but someone cuts me off "watch where you're going, snake!" I look and see Harry Potter and his friend Ron Weasley. Draco told me all about them and their other friend, Hermione Granger.
"Ron" Harry hissed.
"I'm not a snake" I say.
"Yes you are!"
"You don't even know me"
"Leave, before I hex you" Ron says, pulling out his wand. He points it at me. I look at it, then at Ron, he rises it, but before he can say a hex, I quickly rush off.
I open the door and it's only Draco sitting in there, he smiles at me and I smile back and sit down. "Where's everyone gone?" I ask
"To get changed" I nod. "What's wrong?" Draco asks, frowning.
"N-nothing"
"I know you're lying A."
"I just bumped into Ron Weasley, I tried saying sorry, but he called me a snake. I told him I'm not a snake but he pointed his wand at me and said he would hex me if I didn't leave, so I left."
"I'll kill him" Draco says, going to stand up, but I stop him "no, leave it. I don't need to be getting into fights on my first day."
He nods and put his arms around me. I smile to myself and rest my head on his shoulder.
