The Lion Guard: Hidden Secrets

Chapter 1: The New King

Authors note:

This story starts out where the final episode of The lion Guard left off, at Kion's coronation at the tree of life.

All the animals jumped and shouted praises as the two lions at the head of the crowd roared triumphantly, announcing their roles as King and Queen of the tree of life. Exuberent shouts of "King Kion!" and "Long live the King!" came from all animals, herbivores and carnivores alike. Among those in the crowd were also all of Kions friends and family, including the king and queen of pride rock themselves, Kion's parents, Simba and Nala.

Kion and Rani looked out onto the crowd with joyful expressions clear upon their faces. Not in Kion's wildest dreams did he think he'd ever be king, not to mention, king of a land he barely knew. As he looked up from the crowd he saw the familiar face of his grandfather Mufassa smiling down upon him from the clouds. Though, it wasn't just one familiar face looking down. Kion motioned for Rani to look up as well and together they saw not only Mufassa, but Rani's grandmother, the former queen, Janna, as well as the very first lion guard leader, Askari. All three looked down upon the new rulers with smiles that radiated like the sun. At seeing their combined approving gazes Kion was reminded that he and Rani wouldn't be alone in facing this new part of their lives. And of course, they had each other too.

Kion and Rani jumped down off the rock in front of the great tree that towered overhead and made their way to the gathered animals before them.

Simba stepped forward first and nuzzled the top of his sons head. "I am so proud of you Kion."

His mother stepped up beside Simba, and a little overcome with emotion said: "You are going to make a great king." As a tear escaped from the corner of her eye.

Next to approach was his older sister Kiara, and his new brother, Kovu. "Who would have thought. My younger brother becoming a king of the tree of life before I can become queen of the pride lands." Kiara said jokingly.

"Yeah, except you're a lot more prepared to rule than I am. You were trained from birth to be queen. I never had any training to be a king." Kion replied.

"You and me both, little brother. Can I call you that?" Kovu asked.

Kion nodded with a grin. Kovu's expression lit up at the gesture.

"Well it's a good thing you boys aren't doing it alone, right Kiara? Rani said with a playful tone as she bumped into Kion's side.

"That's right! We'll whip you boy into shape in no time." Kiara laughed as she ruffled the mane of her mate. "But in all seriousness Kion, we are here for you. Each and every one of us." Kiara proclaimed while glancing to her sides where all of the royal family and both the lion guard and night pride members stood.

"Don't worry Kion. You'll be an unbungalievable king, take it from someone who knows." Bunga chimed in gesturing to himself.

"Bunga, how would you know anything about being a king?" Fuli scoffed.

"Who me? Not a thing, but I know Kion." Bunga said as he put an arm on Kion's shoulder and looked up at his friend. "You've always been a good leader, and you've got the purest heart of anyone I know!"

"Bungas right Kion, you'll do great!" Beshte said joyfully.

"Affirmative" Ono added and nodded his head in agreement.

"Thanks everyone. Your support means a lot." Kion said looking down at Bunga and then back at all his friends and family.

"Besides, you've already mastered the roar, you'll master being a king in no time." Bunga said waving his had in a gesture that said it was no big deal.

"I don't know Bunga, just because I've mastered parts of the roar doesn't mean…" But before Kion could finish what he was going to say he was cut off by a great thunderous boom that shook the ground. But just as abruptly as it had started, the shaking stopped.

"Havi kabisa! Is everyone ok?" Kion shouted as he looked around at the nervous herds.

"We're all fine." Simba announced. "But what was that?"

"I don't know." Kion responded as he looked at Rani in concern. "Has anything like that ever happened before?" he asked her.

"No, not to my knowledge." She said with a worried expression.

"Guys, guys!" Makini yelped. "I think it came from inside the tree! I saw a bright flash of green light come from inside when the ground shook."

"I saw that too." Ono agreed.

"We better check it out." Kion declaired. "Lion Guard, you and the night pride stay out here with the herds, we don't want anyone wondering off until we know what we're dealing with. Rani, and Makini, you're with me. You two know the tree better than I do."

"We're coming too." Nala said as Simba, Kiara, and Kovu came up beside her.

"Ok, but let Makini and Rani lead the way. I don't want anyone getting hurt." Kion announced as they made their way up to the opening of the tree of life.

Before anyone entered, Makini and Rani poked their heads in to look around.

"It looks the same from out here, but there's a lot of dust so it's kind of hard to see." Rani observed.

"Okay, everyone go slow." Kion said as they entered the tree. The cave under the tree was made up of wood and rock alike and didn't have much light to begin with, and Rani was right. The entire place was clouded in dust making visibility that much worse. The only relief were the green glowing plants that ran throughout the cave like veins. As Rani and Makini led the way Kion noticed something strange about the glowing fungi. "Does it seem like the plants are glowing brighter the farther into the cave we go?" He asked Makini and Rani.

"You know, I think you're right." Makini agreed.

"This is weird, these plants have never glowed this bright before." Rani said with a bit of concern in her tone.

"Alright, everyone stay on their guard and stay close. Mom, Dad, maybe you Kiarra and Kovu should turn back. I don't want…" but Simba cut him off.

"We're staying, now let's figure out what this is so we can deal with it." His father said matter-of-factually.

"Actually," Kovu said nervously. "maybe it might not be such a bad idea to...oohf" Kiara elbowed her mate in the side giving him an irritated look.

"We're right behind you little brother." Kiara said looking back towards Kion.

"Okay, let's go." Kion said as he let Rani and Makini guide them deeper into the cave.

As they neared the back the green light became much brighter until they reached an entrance that none of them had seen before. Directly to the left of the opening was a large stone, twice the size of Beshte, with multiple green glowing symbols upon it.

In puzzlement Kion asked; "Makini, did you draw these?"

Confused she replied: "No, I've never seen these before. I recognize the stone, but it used to be over there." As she pointed to the new opening. "And it never had any symbols on it before."

"This kind of reminds me of the hidden cave in the lion guard layer under pride rock." Kion remembered.

"Yeah, except I have no idea what any of those symbols mean. I've never seen anything like them." Makini replied looking up at the strange symbols.

"Hey guys I think there's someone in there." Kiara said as she peered down through the new opening. Together they all looked down into this new place within the cave. It seemed to be bigger than the cave itself and emitted the same bright green light. Along the walls of the room were many similar glowing symbols like the ones on the large stone, as well as drawings that looked closer in in resemblance to Makini's paintings. As they all slowly entered, one by one, they saw a slim figure standing upright with its back turned near a blueish crystal clear pool at the base of the large room. They all paused as the figure turned to meet them. Before the group stood a creature none of them had ever seen before. It stood on two long legs, and was fur-less except for a bit of brown atop its head and a little on its face, and had a large patch of pelt around its midsection. In one of its long arms it held a wooden staff like Makini's, though, much longer and from atop the staff emanated the extremely bright green light that they had all been seeing.

Kion hesitantly stepped forward. "Who and what are you? He asked the creature, though his tone held no hint of fear.

The strange creature lifted its gaze to meet Kions. The creature had eyes that matched the crystal clear blue of the pool beside him.

"My name is Umren," The strange creature spoke with a clear voice. "and I am a human."

Authors Note:

Well here it is. My very first story. I hope you enjoyed it. Yes I know, I introduced a human into The Lion Guard story. Bear with me, I plan to use Umren (oom-ren) as the main human character with the possibility of adding only one or two more later-on. The human kind though will have a rather big impact to the story I have in store. The next chapter will be filled with explanations and a great twist at the end so stay tuned. Since this is my first story I would love to get feedback. What did or didn't you like. I'm not the greatest at spelling and punctuation, so any constructive criticism will be welcome! Also, my goal is to just continue the story in my own way, but not alter the original stories of The Lion Guard or The Lion King. If you find I am doing so, or I don't have some facts right please let me know! Thanks for reading!
