Prologue

All that 53 had ever known was the Dark. The Dark and the Voice. The Voice that had named it : #53. Or was it « subject #53 » ? It had forgotten : only the Voice knew. The Voice that cackled madly, whispering about revenge, promising suffering to someone called a « Vegapunk », - or was it a « something" ? #53 wasn't sure aboute the difference between the concepts of people and objects, the Voice never talked about that. It sometimes giggled in a surprisingly soothing way - because when the Voice was happy, #53 didn't suffer. #53 liked when the Voice was happy. It liked it a lot. But sometimes, the Voice was not happy. Not happy at all. And it meant immense suffering, drug-induced delirium, violent convulsions, muscle spasm of unknown cause which sometimes sheared its too thin arms - only for them to be regenerated by the viscid liquid that filled his cylinder - what the Voice called a « pod ».

#53 shuddered, for today...today the Voice was neither happy nor angry. Its enthusiasm - was that eagerness ? - could be perceived by his trained hears.

« Activate Diary Dial. Subject 51. Projet « SAD » - artificial DF - attempt thirteen ».

He heard the sound. Sometimes - when his armes broke under the ministrations of the Voice -, it came out of his mouth. But this time, like most occurrences of the sound, it did not. This time, unlike usual, the sound did not cease in an instant, but slowly faded away. « A scream of agony », it remembered. He heard a bell - the sound that rythmes its existence - and its consciousness was extinguished.

« Joker has been thwarting their attempts to localize you for more than a decade, but he can't keep wasting so many ressources on a base so lavishly wasteful as yours - especially with such pathetic results ».

Even if #53 could move in his cylinder, he would have been frozen in surprise, for the one who had just talked wasn't the Voice.

« Either you relocalize in the main base and you start working again directly under Caesar, or you just discontinue your inefficient researches. I can only recommend you choose the first option. You're brillant, one of the brightest minds of North Blue, one of the brightest minds I know and I work with Caesar Clown ! You are one of the few person on earth that may be able to deliver successfully this insane project »

Something else - something else than the Dark, the Pod, the Voice, the Bell and the Screams - existed. Something else was.

" Joker wants the Devil Fruit's production line to be ready in less than seven years, or else he will torture me until I beg for mercy. And in the event I think it may happen, I guarantee you that I'll use all my power as the coordinator of this project to make your life a living hell. But if we were to succeed… »

The Voice spoke again, in a timbre previously unknown - was that hesitation ?

« I…I understand. But this lab is my whole life ! And working under Caesar direction ? The sore loser with shitty half-assed zoans ? I'd rather go back in Vegapunk's lab ! My project is totally better than Caesar's ! Look…I know I was only a research assistant while he was a lab director, and I know all of my test subjects have died until now, but it's only because they aren't powerful enough to be the receptacle of my mighty Synthetized Artificial Devil fruits ! And S.A.D potential is infinite and… »

The Other interrupted the Voice. #53 shivered : it meant that beings more powerful than the Voice existed. And that one of them was near his pod, invisible and imperceptible, ready to grasp his life at any given life.

« Show me »

53 could have concentrated on the sounds the depressurization of the #52 pod, or the noises made by the struggling subject, that had discovered light for the first time of its soon-to-be ended life, that trying not to bite the fruit that was forcefully fed to him - but #53 was busy. It has to think ! Think ! Indeed, if there were other living beings, beings more powerful than the Voice, maybe #53 could become one of them ? Maybe it could ask the other ? But what if the other was worse than the Voice…

Its reflections were abruptly interrupted by a cry of agony, quickly followed by a tearing sound. A bell rang, and once again it felt his consciousness leave him.

This Diamante fucker didn't know who he was talking to ! This overgrown asshole should rejoice to have left, otherwise Him, the Dr. Fritz, would have transformed him in a test subject ! #54 had a nice ring to it.

The scientist sighed. Not only was he incapable to do anything to one of Joker's supervisors, his rants sadly reminded him that he only had one test subject left. Number #53. A random fucker he bought for less than ten thousands berries. The sum was so derisory for a healthy male child that he thought it to be a con at first, but after 3 years in a pod and no accident, it seemed that the deal wasn't more than it appeared. Obviously, it probably meant that the kid was some sort of noble that rival heirs - probably older - had tried to get rid of, but it was of no importance : #53 would only leave once his pod, and would probably end shredded into pieces after the ingestion of a S.A.D. A sad end indeed for the last test subject. Maybe it would be different this time ? Fritz shook his head : he told that to himself every time, and every time the subject ended blown-up after the ingestion of the artificial devil fruit.

Maybe…maybe that was the solution ? He had looked for days for a solution to the laboratory problem. Indeed, he could not take his research with him - this Diamante's fucker fault ! - but he could not leave the lab intact behind him. What if the marines discovered it ? And blowing up - after having salvaged all the important equipment and his notes- would remedy to this problem. And subject #53 seemed like the best thing to blow up.

But the ingestion of a S.A.D fruit wouldn't be enough to wipe out the entire underground labs, and he could to feed more than a fruit to the subject before the explosion. Maybe…if he did not channel the explosive potential through the fruit ? S.A.D fruits were grown and plucked from a tree he had infused - literally, through a tubing - with his main invention, a liquid he dubbed the S.A.D fluid and that was at the origin of all the artificial demon fruits - however unsuccessful they may be. But if he infused #53 progressively the fluid through an IV ? It would act like a really potent time bomb ! He had to leave the lab in three days, enough time to build the rudimentary mechanism and produce a new batch of S.A.D fluid !

Fritz cackled cheerfully : he wasn't a genius for nothing.

#53 opened his eyes.

Three things were out of the ordinary.
Firstly, he felt something, something viscous, entering his body.

Secondly, he was aware. He had no memories other than the Dark and the Voice, but he knew - instinctively - that he was a he. That he was human - like the voice had been.

Thirdly, for the first time, there was something other than the Dark floating in his field of vision.

Hello #53

Quest 1 : SURVIVE

Move your buns you retard, zombie incoming !

Hello #53

and

Welcome to the TUTORIAL of the One Piece Game !

You have eaten The Gemu-Gemu Fruit and has consequently become a gamer, with the « One Piece » world as the game board. Between Schichibukai, Emperors, Marines, Pirates, Corrupted Nobles, Almighty Swordsmen (and swordswomen too !) and Mad Scientists, will you be able to stay alive ? Will you die like a little shit or will you rise among the greats of this world and gather power, riches and bitches (I'm totally a feminist, but it rhymed, you know ?)

#53 didn't know what to think. What the fuck ? Not only he was seeing some screen floating in the Dark, his way of thinking had totally changed. He knew he was totally, irreversibly, absolutely bat-shit insane, but that meant he had a frame of reference, a conception of « normality » to understand that ! It meant that, even if he had no memory of such events, he had known a life outside the pod.

His reflexions were rudely interrupted.

Quest - Complete the Tutorial (aka SURVIVE YOU FOOL)

Objective

Survive the tutorial (1/3)

Rewards

1 - [Gamer Body], [Gamer Mind], [Observe] and a little something to help you survive the incoming storm

2 - [A freak'in explanation]

3 - A [random reward] and some XP

#53 heard a screech and something hit the pod. Another screech and a hissing noise…Something definitely punched the pod ! Something was trying to break it - or worse - to get to #53 ! If only he remembered how to panic…The 3 years in his pod clearly has altered consequently his thought pattern. What was the most similar emotion he could express ? Boredrom ? Anger ? Desire ? It was the only ones he remembered…

His thinking came to an end as an ugly-as-hell arm came through the pod. And stayed there, trying to grasp whatever was in his reach -aka #53 head. That, and the fact the thing was strong enough to pierce the pod was the bad new. The good new ? The arm looked like it was stuck.

So #53 did the only thing that came to his mind : he bite.

- 5 HP to [Weakest Zombie]

For doing something incredibly stupid, you gain no INT. With some luck, not trying that again will make you win some WIS ?

The arm tried to move, but #53 bite again. And again.

You can now exit your pod ! Yay !

Passing his arms through the holes the « zombie » made, #53 fumbled around the wall of the pod, and pushed on what seemed to be a button. In a horrid screeching, the pod only half opened - probably because of the damages made by the zombie, but it was enough of an opening for him to get out.

For the first time since…three years according to the sarcastic panel - and wasn't that strange ? He had forgotten. Maybe everyone had a panel ? Maybe it was thanks to that the Other became so powerful ! - he saw something else than the Dark. Even if he knew it was normal, he had to stop. So much color ! So much shapes and reliefs ! Even if it was mostly grey - the lab being made most of stainless metal and rocks, all the equipment having been taken by the Voice - it was so colorful. So distracting. But not distracting enough to ignore the zombie coming in his direction.

[Weakest Zombie]

[Hint]

Look at your enemy and say or think « Observe »

Mechanically, #53 did as he was told.

Congratulations ! You have used a skill for the first time ! + 50 XP

[Weakest Zombie] - The late Subject #12 - Lv 3

New Quest : Who the fuck am I ?

Objective :

Discover what the fuck happened in this lab and what was Fritz's (the Voice) goal.

Rewards :

BACKSTORY Quest line unlocked

Quest-line « Revenge on the Deck » unlocked

500 XP

Nonchalantly - regardless if it was because of [Gamers Mind] or if it was because he had actually forgotten how to fear - #53 picked up one of the iron bars that must have been used to lock the #52 pod - the one right next to his - and started smashing the zombie's ugly mug. The fucker may be strong - and #53 may have been weakened by three years of sequestration - but it had a disadvantage : it couldn't see. Maybe it was the consequence of this SAD-thingies, but a large protrusion of flesh had grown on its forehead, and had fallen in front of its eyes. It took some time because of his pathetic strength but…

You have defeated [Weakest Zombie] and are awarded with + 50 XP

Two down, twenty to go !

You level UP and are awarded with 5 stats points !

(Leveling-up is paused until the third part of the tutorial)

Seing two other « Weakest Zombies » coming his way - coming being hyperbole, one of them didn't seem to have feet, and was creeping on the lab's floor - #53 began to joyfully whistle ! He hadn't had this much fun since, well, ever !

By defeating 18 x [Weakest Zombie], you won a total of 900 XP and leveled-up twice !

You have completed Tutorial (2/3)

You are awarded with the followings :

500 XP

[Explanation] on the level system

You level up !

You are level 5 and are now able to spend your points !

His stats points ?

[Hint]

The Game can be controlled through voice commands, or by thinking - try saying "Character"!

[Hint]

Your « statistics points » (stats points for short) represents your abilities. The higher the stats, the more capable you are ! Each level, (5) stats points are attributed to the Player for him to spend however he like.

STR – STRENGTH : how strong the player is (and you need a tutorial for these types of info, sighs…). It determines the damages dealt by a physical attack.

END – ENDURANCE : how tough the player's body is. It determines defense against physical attacks and hit points. When HP reaches 0, you die !

DEX - DEXTERITY : how agile the player is. It determines the chance of esquive by the player, and the player's ability to successfully perform actions requiring a physical mastery and control over the body (martial arts, swordsmanship …)

INT - INTELLIGENCE : how intelligent the player is. It determines the « spiritual » ability of the player by allowing him to use large quantities of mana. INT determines directly the Mana (MP - Mana Points) Pool of the player.

WIS - WISDOM : how wise the player is. It determines the « spiritual » ability of the player by allowing him to use proficiently mana. WIS determines directly the MP regeneration.

CHA - CHARISM : how charismatic the player is. It determines his ability to perform certains skills like Lying or Convincing. The higher the CHA, the easier it is to gain Reputation, Affection and Obedience.

LCK - LUCK - how lucky the player is. It directly affects the [GAME BOARD] and [Randoms Encounters]. The luckier the player is, the better the quest reward and [Opponents Drops] will be.

As you leveled 4 times, you have 20 points to spend !

[Hint]

[Drops] are enabled when LCK reaches 5

[Hint]

Reaching specific bearings in stats will grant [PERKS]

[Hint]

To allocate your stats, use vocal command

So, he could grow stronger just by « spending those points » ? He could grow stronger…stronger than the Voice ! And if he was stronger than the Voice, he could find him and…and…lock him in a pod ! Yes… He had to gain more points…especially since he nearly died thrice while hunting the zombies. And it was only written (2/3) on the quest completion indications, which probably meant that he would have to fight again before getting out of the lab.

So…how should he spend his points ? Improving his endurance - in order to not die - and his MP pool should be essential : this [Body Reinforcement] had been useful during his fight. He only had to think [Body Reinforcement] to feel his strength and health augment…but the effect ended to fast for him to rely on the skill and he had to wait quite a long time before he could use it again, probably because of his low INT and WIS. He didn't want to have any « encounter » - he already discovered colors and shapes in one day, people was to much (how did he knew the concept of people ? Was it so CHA was a no-go, and this [Drop] perk made him curious…

« Spend 5 points in END, INT, WIS and LCK »

[Drops] are enabled : defeating an enemy will recompense the player with money and loot ! The stronger the enemy, the better the drops !

[Hint]

The Game can be controlled through voice commands, or by thinking - try saying "Inventory"!

The inventory is your personal weightless bag !

So not only could he gain points by killing ennemies - because, for now, only quests and killing ennemies gave him XP, and XP was the only way to level up and gain points - he could get money too ! He didn't remember what money was, but if the game gave it to him, it should be important ! Trying this Inventory thing, he realized that he could make things appears and disappear by putting them in the floating screen. Was that normal ? #53 shrugged and looked at the newest screen.

Tutorial quest-line - 3/3 :

Find the Journal of the Scientist

Find the Subject #53 sheet

Defeat the Boss

So he had to search documents in the lab ? Getting out of the large room containing all the pods and where he had beaten all the zombies, #53 entered a maze of tortuous corridors, intermittently bumping into a zombie. Finally finding a room that was not a dungeon cell or a storage room, #53 entered what seemed to be an office. An office with a strange zombie inside. A zombie that really seemed to be alive. A zombie that had two heads…and talked with a hoarse and raspy voice.

« How…are…you….alive….master…said….kill…explosion…»

[Frank and Stein, the assistants duet] - Lv 10

You didn't think that Fritz had no assistant…and that someone would be willing to be his assistant ?

« Fuck… ». Level 10 ? The strongest zombie he had affronted yet was level 4 ! And this guy didn't seem to have any disabilities, unlike the zombies. Raising the crowbar he found in one of the storage room, #53 activated [Body Reinforcement] and ran…away from the enemy. No way was he fighting that thing, he only started to really live three hours ago ! Was he…fearing something ? Impossible, the Gamer's mind and the debuffs wouldn't allow that. So what was feeling ? It is not that he didn't want to fight the bi-headed monster, just that he didn't to charge this ennemy like a decerebrated berserker. And had seen some jars the game labeled as « Poisonous Gaz » in the original lab. With some gaz masks next to it. Maybe…

Congratulations !

For having defeated your first mini-boss with the use of your brain and without losing a singe HP, you are awarded with the following :

500 HP

1 000 B

Metal bat (+ 2 STR when used)

Having put the gaz mask on, #53 entered the office, used Observe on the desk and the Bookshelves…and found what he was looking for.

Congratulations

You have found Subject #53 sheet

You have found the scientist' journal

Do you want to learn their contents ?

#53's sheet seemed to be a summary of all the experiments he went through, a sort of diary kept by the scientist that also contained…his origin. #53 touched his sheet and was struck with pain as a flood of information poured into his head. Falling to the ground, convulsing and shaking, he remembered. Galadriel Luvneel remembered everything. He remembered how he, whose mother was unknown, the bastard son of the king, one of the heir of the Luvneel Kingdom, was betrayed by his half-brother the crown Prince and given to a slaver. He remembered his education as a noble, the organisation of the world, the marines…but they were things he remembered not. The memories of his nannies - formerly filled with affection, he knew it - were veiled, grayish, distants. The former love for his older sister has become a strange melange of desire and possessiveness. But he knew hate. He knew hate for his brother, who betrayed him, and for his father, who did nothing to look for him. He hated the Voice, and the Joker for making him what he had become. He knew hate. He was consumed by it.

Grasping Fritz's Journal in his right hand, he clenched his teeth and didn't flinch in spite of the pain.

You learned the first (1/5) information about « Joker »

Joker is one of the most influent person of the One Piece's underworld. Knew for being a drug kingpin and a slaver, his real identity is carefully hidden and only a handful of people know who hides behind this name. Employing « Caesar », Dr Vegapunk's ex-right hand and other mad scientists like the Dr Fritz to make artificial Devil Fruits, his goal is to have the world at his feet. His right-hand man, Diamante, sent Fritz in Caesar's lab, on the Grand Line.

But the levels requirements for the first steps of theses quests… Galadriel knew about devil fruits, and about crazily strong pirates and marines. But to think they were so strong LV 50 was only the basic requirements ! Which level was the Joker : 100 ? 200 ? 500 ? He had to grow strong, to grow stronger….to complete his revenge, and to enjoy himself on the way : his insatiable desire seemed to grow with each new level...

Galadriel looked at the bookshelves. He had gained information just by touching the Journal of the scientist. Maybe…He took the nearest book, « Advanced Biology ».

You learned « Advanced Biology » : [Mad Science] has advanced to level 2

One book done, two bookshelves to go.

[Mad Science] LV6 - 7%

You want to create zombies, strange creatures to obey your orders, mutant bodyguards and madness-inducing weapons, even at the cost of your own sanity ? Well, this is the right skill for you !

Lv 6 - You have an intuitive understanding of science, mechanics and biology. You can « improve » human bodies, create weak zombies and dumb but loyal slaves from living, healthy, bodies. The more INT and WIS you have, the more efficient your modifications will be !

Galadriel cackled madly, not aware that it made him sound like the Voice. He had gained so much knowledge ! He knew so many things ! How to improve muscles, how to induce obedience with strange serums, how to poison people, how to tweak and master flesh ! He saw cells the first time he went out of the lab. And if the Voice had let him to die in the base and did not take with him when he left, maybe - just maybe - there were other test subjects that stayed ? Maybe some cells still contained inmates ? Maybe…maybe he could test his skills ahead of schedule ?

Happily whistling, he took his bat out of his inventory - better safe than sorry - and started to explore the underground laboratory.

« Empty…empty…empty »…

All the cells were, for the moment, devoid of any soon-to-be puppet. Bashing the head of one more zombie that adventured too close - making him gain a level and five points he invested in INT - he opened another door.

« Are you…are you here to save us ? »

The high-pitched voice caught him off guard. Reflexively, he bashed the head of the kid with his bat.

You have defeated 9-years-old boy ! You gain nothing, you sicko

For the first time, the game was wrong : he had plenty of new organs and materials to play with ! And now, he knew he was not alone in the lab. So he definitely had to keep exploring.

After what felt like hours of exploration, ten more zombies encounters and two levels (with points hurriedly put in INT and WIS, a new bat, and 800 B) he finally found what he looked for.

It should have been two months, more or less two weeks, that Zoe has been kidnapped by this strange looking, two-headed man, and thrown into her cell. Luckily, it was a personal cell : for reasons she had not been made aware of, she had not been locked into one of the three large cages that could be seen from her straw mattress. They were unevenly filled with men, with ages ranging from fifteen to sixty. She didn't know how many they were - fifteen ? Twenty ?- , but probably less than last week : they had not been fed since 6 days, even though they'd been fed regularly since she arrived. Maybe whatever put them here had forgotten them ?

The heavy metal door loudly squeaked. Everyone turned towards the sound : maybe the two-headed monster was going to feed them ? For the first time, it was not the monster that entered the room, but a teenager, whose jet-black-hairs contrasted with the pallor of his frail body. His emaciated face was the strangest : dead-eyes, a strange maniacal grin and a glabrous shin.

« Hello my beauties… »

She shivered. Something was clearly wrong. An hypothesis that was quickly corroborated as he open the cage with the less amount of people - four men, of which two appeared to be dead - with a set of keys she had last seen on the monster's belt. With a speed and a strength she didn't think he would be capable of given his visible lack of muscles and thinness, he entered the cage, grabbed one of the half-dead men by the foot and began to pull him out of the cage. The most muscular man of the group - who probably had survived until then by stealing the other's food - saw that as an opportunity to try and escape by pushing the teenager out of the way and rushing to the opened door.

Ultimately a bad move, as it made the teenager take an interest in him. He released the famished prisoner's foot, and clubbed the running one before he could walk through the door. Ultimately, he was the one taken by the strange apparition.

Zoe's night was haunted by nightmares mixing the cries of the prisoner dragged out of the room and images of the intriguing - but terrifying - teenager. She didn't know if the strange pale-skinned man could be her ticket out of this nightmare, or if he was the nightmare himself.

Galadriel refrained a madness-induced giggle. He didn't want to be a Voice wannabe and, furthermore, he had to train himself to display a facade of sanity. Indeed, if he knew he would be diagnosed clinically insane by whatever doctor he would meet - his level in [Mad Science] gave him psychological knowledges too, so he was quite able to diagnose himself. He was maybe mad, but it didn't mean he was stupid, on the opposite, he was around of his new found intelligence. An intelligence that was useful to analyse all the memories of his childhood. And deeply, he knew he should learn how to act « normal ». Not only was it a vital component of his plans - both to stay alive in this world populated with over-powered warriors and to get his revenge -, it was necessary to satiate the desire that animated him. Even if he did not understand it completely - he had a feeling he would at the end of the tutorial, when he would have found and defeated the so-called « boss », he would comprehend himself better, and put a word on this desire.

It was to prepare for this confrontation that Galadriel prepared. He had tied with strips of leather on beds - probably installed in the lab for this purpose - the ten men he had collected in two of the large cages. He had left the seven other in the last cage, and taken with him the four cadavers he had found. For the moment, support-types creations, like research assistants or cleaning servants were either too difficult - none of the men seemed to have an education - or useless. Thus, he should make combat servants to assist him during his battle with the boss. On the ten mens, maybe having four zombies and refining the other six in two stronger battle-servants like Frank-and-Stein had been.

Smiling, Galadriel unzipped the kit that contained the different sizes of scalpels, and moved the various chemicals essential to the brainwashing process within easy reach.

You have created 4 x [Weak Zombies - C1] and 2 x [Zombie Variant - C2]

Congratulations ! You have created your first servitors !

The obedience of your servitors is artificially maintained by magic to 100. You can maintain a Class 1 servitor for 1 INT, 1 Class 2 servitor for 2 points,

Don't panic - the point is not suppressed, your intelligence merely limits the number of your servants : with 10 INT, you can have 10 C1 or 5 C2 or 1 C10. You can, of course, do mixed-batches : for 10 INT, you can have 6 C1 and 2 C2 servitors

For the moment, you have 8/16 INT used

By a constant practice, [Mad Science] has increased to level 10 !

You can now produce a variety of mind-controlling drugs that do not affect the intelligence of the victim. Only useful on weak-minded victims (CHA inferior to 20).

You can now maintain the artificial obedience of a servitor to 60 without altering the original mind and intellectual abilities of the body used as a base.

The door opened for the first time for three days, since the man came to take more than half of the prisoner. By luck, he hadn't seen her - her individual cell was only visible from the third cage, the one he hadn't opened. But maybe, today was the day that marked the end of her -relative - peace. Maybe today was the day she had a chance to escape this hell-hole.

This time, the man shed had dubbed « The Scientist » wasn't alone. His appearance had not changed - if not for the blood-stained lab coat he was now wearing - but he was flanked by two creatures that reminded her of the two-headed monster. She realized with horror that the tallest's head - he should be near 9 feet tall - was the one of one of the prisoners he took away. So the scientist had been the one to kidnap them…He didn't need people : he needed bags of flesh to conduct horrible experiments. If he came back, maybe it was because today was he turn. Today wasn't the day she would be able to escape from this hell, but the day she would be made into a demon.

The Scientist walked toward the third cage and stopped, his eyes glued to her.

She would have prayed, had she thought any god could exist in this barbarous world, were marines were not better than the bloodthirsty pirates they hunted down.
