I Was Once
This is my new story. There are 2 major character deaths. And none of the dead characters in it now, are dead. Everyone is alive. (I will also be updating Operation Emma soon)
A giant trauma. Emergency Surgeries. Teams working overtime. It all came down to this. At other ends of the hospital, the slow bleeps of the monitiors signified the desperate efforts of two hearts worthy of life. In the west wing, on the Paediatrics Ward, an 8 year old girl. On the Wyvern Wing, laying on a bed inside Darwin's HDU, an F1 doctor. And the connection between these two was priceless. And then, as if someone high above was pulling the strings, an earpiercing screech from both monitors was heard. And they both pictured straight lines. The whole of Holby City General Hospital went silent. It was as if it was falling apart. And the one person who needed to know, didnt.
"Time of death, 14:31," said the consultant on the Paediatric Ward, Jeniffer Stanton. She was fighting back tears, as the registrar and 2 nurses sloped out. One of which was Essie Di Lucca. She called her best friend Sacha Levy. He didn't answer. Assuming he was in theatre, she left him a message:
" Hi Sach. Just calling to tell you ive just been up on Paediatrics. We just lost Emma Naylor-Maconie. See you later." And with that, Essie put the phone down and strode off towards AAU. It felt like a ghost hospital. The corridor was completely empty apart from a spilt box of cannulas and a cuddly pig. Sarah the pig. Essie picked it up. The grief and reality settled in. Emma had loved Sarah the Pig with all her heart. And everyone had loved Emma with all their hearts. She deserved to be here right now. If she was, she'd be causing mischief on Darwin! Essie smiled to herself. Emma wasn't a sad type of girl. She hated seeing anyone upset. They all needed to stay strong. For Emma's sake.
"Time of Death 14:31." Darwin fell silent. Today, Connie Beauchamp was an acting consultant. She turned off the heart rate monitor. The girl had always been such a promising young doctor. The registrar, Oliver Valentine, remebered her first day, 8 months ago. He remembered the fake smile on her name badge. The huge biscuit fight with CT1 doctor Zosia March. Ollie had won that. He remembered the giant plastic donkey she had won at the Holby Carnival. And how on her neckalce, the jeweller had missed out the 'e' in her name.
All the happy moments he had spent with Jasmine Burrows. A phenomanal doctor in the making. And now that chance had been snatched away from her, like a child with a toy car. The hospital would forever be scarred with Jasmine's absence. She was a light, which has now been turned off forever.
