A/N: Hey guys! It's been a while since I've written a fic but I recently started watching Miraculous again and here I am! I'm obsessed with the show and can't seem to get these ideas out of my head! Please enjoy!
"It's perfect!" Alya exclaimed, twirling around in a long lavender gown. The girls had decided to go dress shopping before their school's first ever prom. Rose and Juleka had already picked out their dresses, a pastel pink and plum colored number. Alix had chosen a sage green jumpsuit, and Mylene was going with a blue cocktail dress. They were all giddy with excitement to finally have a school dance, and they were especially excited about their dates!
All of them except Marinette.
Marinette was feeling anxious, which was quite an understatement. Luka was going to be out of town for a gig and wouldn't be able to take her, and asking Adrien? Out of the question completely.
The way Adrien would slow dance with me, Marinette thought, and how good" he would look in a tux-
"Earth to Marinette!" said Alya, snapping her fingers in front of Marinette's face. "Day dreaming about Adrien again?" All of the girls giggled.
"Wh-What! N-no!" Marinette blushed, rubbing the back of her head and smiling awkwardly. "I-I was just debating on wh-what color dress to wear! Yeah! I'm really between the crimson" she said, grabbing a red gown hanging near them, "or the black! You know, such a classic! Which would better match my eyes?!" She blinked over and over for dramatic effect.
The girls erupted in laughter again. Alya chuckled and said, "Girl it's okay. We all know what you were thinking."
"It's really cute how often you day dream about Adrien," Rose said, still giggling. "You could still see if he'd go to the dance with you, you know."
"Yeah, he's totally into you!" said Alix.
Marinette sighed and put her head in her hands. "There's just no way I'd ever work up the courage to say anything about it to him! Every time I speak to him my brain turns to complete mush! I just go, 'Wah-wah-"
"Gurgh-Uh-Wha-" The girls said in unison, mimicking Marinette's awkward noises. They all giggled again.
"You've got this, girl!" said Alya, putting her hand on Marinette's shoulder. "You are the most amazing girl, and you deserve to have a sweet night like the rest of us! You just have to let that fear go!"
Marinette glanced up at all of her smiling friends. Alya did make a good point- Alix was already going with Kim, Mylene with Ivan, Rose and Juleka were going with one another, and of course Alya was going with Nino...
Maybe today was the day she should finally work up the nerve to say something to Adrien.
"Maybe I don't even need to confess my feelings to him...Even if he just went with me to prom, a magical night like that would surely pull out all the stops for a romantic time! He'd pick me up from my house, and meet my parents again, and hold the door open for me as we walked into the gym and had another opportunity to slow dance, he'd take my hand and-" She sighed, dreaming of the day once again. She was quickly awakened from her day dream when Alya said:
"Then go talk to him, crazy!"
All of her friends cheered her on, giving her some confidence and offering moral support.
"You're right!" she exclaimed, standing to her feet. "I just have to do it!"
More cheers came from the girls, clapping and standing as well. The boutique workers gave them encouraging smiles.
"Okay, I'm going to go to his house now! Right now!" Marinette said running towards the door of the shop. "I think I'll get the red dress!" She ran back over to Alya, putting money into her hands. "You know what size I am, I trust you! I'll call you as soon as I've talked to him!"
Alya smiled and said, "Go get him girl!"
Marinette grinned and sprinted out the door, heading towards the Agreste mansion.
"I believe in you, Marinette!" said Tikki from her home in Marinette's purse. "You've been doing so much better talking to Adrien recently, maybe today is finally the day! I know you can do it!"
Marinette held onto that hope and the support from her friends and her kwami. This newfound confidence surely wouldn't fizzle out when she saw him like it had nearly every single time she had needed to talk to him, or tell him how she felt. She would save that confession for the dance, but now was the time to put on her big girl pants and just ask him to go with her! After their trip to New York, she felt a new comfort in their friendship, and she was tired of denying that she didn't have feelings for him. It was so obvious that she did. She couldn't lie to herself any longer, and maybe he would be willing to go to prom with, even as just a friend...
"Thanks, Tikki." Marinette continued running down the streets of Paris, turning the corner onto Adrien's street. She flew to a stop she saw Adrien stepping out the gray car the Gorilla always drove him around in, fresh from fencing class.
Her heart was beating quickly, her eyes glued to him as he grabbed his bag from the car and put it over his shoulder. He ran a hand through his perfect blonde hair...
How could someone be SO perfect? She thought to herself. He was so kind, and noble, and sweet, and CUTE...
She shook her head to wake herself before she became frozen in a daydream for the third time today. She nervously began to approach him.
"H-Hey! Adrien!"
He turned over and saw her, walking towards him with a bit of pep in her step.
"Oh! Hey Marinette! How's it going?" He smiled at her, happy to see his good friend stopping by to see him. She seemed particularly in a good mood, which was something he was always glad to see.
"G-Good!" she said, stopping in front of him. She had a light blush on her cheeks. "I-I just had a question I wanted to ask you!"
Adrien was intrigued. He couldn't deny that fencing had left him a little exhausted today, but he was always eager to see Marinette.
"Yeah, what's up?" He stepped to the side to lean against the stone fence that surrounded his home. Marinette began to look a little flustered, but he couldn't begin to know why. Marinette was just kind of quirky, that's all.
"So...next week is our school's first ever prom! Aren't you excited!?" she was basically jumping with excitement, which made Adrien chuckle.
"Of course I am! Just because I'm a model doesn't mean I still don't get excited to get all dressed up and look fancy-I mean who doesn't love an excuse to feel fancy?"
Marinette laughed, a little too hard, bending over and slapping one of her knees in an exaggerated way.
"I love an excuse to look fancy!" she cheered, then took a big deep breath.
"So I take it you didn't want to just tell me how excited you are about this dance?"
"N-No..." said Marinette, looking down at her shoes. She took a deep breath again.
"So normally at these kinds of things people will take a date with them! And I'm pretty much out of luck for anyone to ask me since Nino is obviously going with Alya, Ivan with Mylene, Kim with Alix, Max is taking Markov, and so I figured I would just see if maybe, possibly, you know if you're still planning on going and don't have other arrangements already planned, like maybe you wanted to take Chloe, or Lila, or Sabrina even! I just wanted to see if-"
"If I'd go with you?"
Marinette glanced up at him, a smile on his face. His green eyes seemed to look into her very soul, as they always did. They were just so...pretty! She took his smile as a good sign and smiled back, the blush spreading on her cheeks.
"I mean...yeah?"
Adrien let out a chuckle.
"Of course I'd love to go with you, Marinette!"
She smiled the biggest and cheesiest grin you'd ever seen but she head a-
"But, unfortunately, my father won't allow it. I have an early shoot the next morning, and he'd never let me go out before such an early shoot. I was really excited about prom too and thought maybe I could convince him otherwise, but it's just not in the cards for me."
Marinette tried to hold that cheesy grin to hide the frown that so desperately wanted to show itself.
"N-No worries! I totally understand!"
She very quickly spun on her heels to walk away before she let a single tear slip down her cheeks. It was already embarrassing enough asking him to go with her, but letting Adrien see her cry too! No way.
Adrien reached out and grabbed her wrist before she could completely run away from him, clearly disappointed.
"I might be able to meet up with you guys for dinner beforehand though! Save me a seat okay?"
His smile was genuine, and she could tell he was disappointed himself. Oh how stupid to be upset with Adrien when it was his father's fault he couldn't come! Ugh, she though, I'm not being very fair to Adrien.
"Of course." Marinette smiled at him before pulling away and walking back towards her home.
"Thanks Marinette! See you tomorrow!"
Adrien waved as he followed his bodyguard through the massive gates to his home. Marinette watched as he disappeared from sight, and then began sprinting towards her own home, letting that single tear spill down her face.
Back in her bedroom, Marinette was facedown into her pillows, Tikki floating around her head, trying to give her encouragement.
"He didn't flat out reject you Marinette! It's going to be okay! You are so very brave for even saying anything to him! I'm so proud of you!"
Marinette wordlessly reached her arm off of her bed and into her purse that was resting on her nightstand. She pulled out a cookie, tossed it into the air for Tikki, and went back to her zombie-like state.
Tikki took a bite happily and then looked back down at her miraculous holder with a sigh.
"Okay, Marinette. You can pout and mope for a few more minutes, but then it's time to come back to the real world and be yourself again!"
Marinette moaned in agreement, and pulled her covers up over her head. She knew this feeling all too well, and had finally hit a point of exhaustion. Maybe Adrien wasn't meant to be with her after all, despite how sure she had been of him this entire time. Maybe she should have seen if Luka could postpone his gig to come with her. Maybe she just shouldn't go to her silly prom all together.
With a heaving sigh, Marinette sat up on the bed, pulling her pigtails out of her hair.
"Alright, Tikki. I'm going to need a serious pep talk from you before we can go out and patrol for the night, okay?"
Tikki nodded with a cheery grin, rushing over to give Marinette's face a little kwami hug.
"I've got you, Marinette! Always!"
Marinette then took her blanket with her as she climbed up the stairs to her trap door. She crawled up onto her balcony, splaying out on a chair, blanket wrapped around her tightly. Tikki followed with a water bottle in her tiny hands. Even kwamis know that crying can make you dehyrated.
Right as Tikki was about to give the most kind and wholesome pep talk Marinette had ever received, a familiar black-clad cat had leapt onto her balcony, staff in hand.
Tikki quickly hid in the folds of Marinette's blanket.
"Good evening, Princess."
A/N: Hope you all enjoyed this first chapter! I'm unsure how long this fic will be, but I have a lot in store, don't you worry! Don't forget to R&R! Until next time :)
