I've been seeing a huge increase in fanfics where re zero's cast reacts to stuff about subaru., and I decided "hey, why don't i try my hand at making one?". So here she is, a fanfic where subaru's friends and allies react to stuff about his world. Basically a spin-off from Reactionist's watching him die again and again. With that said, here's chapter 1.

Pretend that the cast already reacted to re zero season 1 (which they did in Reactionist's story) and season 2.

Watch "Sabaton - No Bullets Fly (animated music video)" to get an idea to what the cast is reacting to in this chapter.

Note: Subaru isn't awake, because I don't really know how to make him work in the fic, so I'll just make him be the cast's teddy bear, because he's still asleep.

This chapter is more than 4,000 words, a new record for me.

The cast, already shaken up from watching their seemingly happy-go-lucky, mean-eyed friend's bizarre adventure in their world, wanted to take a mental break from watching. Even Ram now understood why he seemingly had really good timing when it came to dangerous situations, it's because of Return by Death that he knew information that he shouldn't have known. Felix was despaired that Subaru did kill himself to save rem, which in turn would save crusch (little detail in Reactionist's story, where Felix makes a comment about how "subaru didn't kill himself to save rem because he understood it would save crusch", but oh boy, subaru did start treating his life like it was nothing)

Damn, that episode where Subaru got eaten alive by the sizeable hare, the adults had to cover up the little ones, but even that didn't stop Petra and Felt from hearing subaru's terrified, pain-filled screams as the rabbits took their time eating him alive.

The Warden: I see y'all having a good time here, let's say we take a break from the main course, and let's offer you side dishes?

Petra, being comforted by Rem: What do you mean?

Rem: I think he means that we're gonna be taking a break from watching my hero's story, how many viewings was it now?

Emilia: I don't know but we've been here a reaallllyy long time.

Garfiel: Tha's right, but d'nt ya think we should watch somethin' about capn's world?

Warden: I was planning on letting you guys watch short, animated films about stuff in subaru's world.

Felt: We're gonna see what big bro's world is like?! (Felt was ecstatic to see what her big bro's world would be like)

Warden: Yep, I believe beatrice here already filled you in on some stuff about his world back in season 1, episode 1.

Crusch: Yes, she described what warfare in subaru's world is like, but is it really that different from our world?

Warden: *flashbacks from nuclear bombs, unit 731, the holocaust, the USS indianapolis disaster, the Bismarck, and even more* ...yes, it is greatly different from your world, but right now, subaru's world is currently experiencing peace, so not much fighting is going on there.

Priscilla: hmm... this boy really amuses me.

Warden: with that said, I'm gonna let you react to a situation that happened in world war 2, the most bloodiest war in subaru's world's history, where over 75 million people died over the course of 6 years.

Emilia: 75 million people!? Oh my god!

Frederica: Oh my, isn't that the entire population of our world?

Felt: How did 75 million people die in such a short time?

Warden: guns, bombs, fire, drowning, knives, you name it.

Rem: subaru-kun's world is scary...

Warden: But world war 2 happened almost 90 years ago, and there have been many more wars since then, but none of them were as major as world war 2. Anyway, you guys are gonna be watching stuff about subaru's world. The first thing you'll be watching is the Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler incident, an incident that happened in world war 2.

Otto: What happened there?

Warden: Well, you guys will need to watch, I think you'll rather like it.

And so the cast waited with baited breath, about what they're gonna see.

The screen turns on to reveal a formation of B17 bombers, with the narrator saying that the date is December 20th, 1943, and the formation of american b17 bombers were currently flying high in the freezing air above Germany.

Crusch: Germany? is that the name of a country?

Warden: yes, in world war two, there were two opposing military alliances, the allies and the axis. Germany was part of the Axis.

Beatrice: so these planes here are part of the Allies?, that's why they're attacking germany?

Warden: that's right, these are American bombers, and they're on a mission to bomb a point in germany.

The cast watched the screen, interested now, they've never seen a plane before, let alone one designed for war and destruction.

"2nd Lieutenant, Charles "Charlie" Brown, is at the controls of his B17-F, Ye Olde Pub. At 11:30, approaching the target of the Focke-Wuff plant near Bremen, the Pub is rocked as 4 explosions go off right in front of the B17. A cry comes across the intercom: We're hit!"

Priscilla: Hah, what's going on here?

Felt: Yea, what are those explosions?

Warden: That's anti-aircraft fire, the Germans had guns designed to bring down planes from really high altitudes.

Crusch: How high were these planes?

Warden: I'll assume around 15,000 to 30,000 feet high, but it can't be that high, or the bombs would be blown off course, so let's say 15,000 feet.

Wilhelm: I see Subaru-sama's world got some menacing stuff.

The cast was amazed at the technology, so they kept watching the screen.

"In the Plexiglass nose, a huge hole had been made, and icy cold wind was being blown inside, making freezing conditions for the crew." One of the crew members covers his face from the freezing wind. The camera turns to reveal one of the engines on fire and barely functioning. "Engine 2 had been hit, and co-pilot, Spencer "Pinky" Luke, let out an expletive, as he noticed a huge hole in the right wing. Releasing the bombs over the factory, the crew turned to the north, planned to head over the coast, and turn west for home." The B17 formation could be seen turning west, while anti-aircraft fire was still exploding around the planes.

Anastasia: All of those.. b-17's, had those bomb things?

Warden: yes, they all dropped those bombs on the factory, and trust me, there were a lot of bombs dropped on the factory, no way it survived the attack.

Felix: Nyan, Subaru-kyun's warfare style is devastating.

Beatrice: Hmph, my contractor should have told me more stories about his world, I suppose.

"With one engine out, and engine 4 now faulty, the Pub started to fall back from the formation, with another damaged plane. Sam "Blackie" Blackford in the ball turret, watched as it disappeared into the cloud bank. There was an orange flash in the cloud. "Bandits!" Ecky shouted, as Bf-109's streaked from the cloud bank." Bf-109 fighters could be seen swarming the plane.

"Then another cry, "Bandits!", as 8 FW-190's were spotted in formation ahead of the Pub. Sergeant Bertram "Frenchy" Coulombe in the turret, shot the 190 out of the sky.

Otto: the planes have anti-air guns as well?

Crusch: I see, so subaru's world has warfare all planned out, you gotta be able to attack, and defend yourself efficiently.

Warden: Warfare in his world is really interesting, to say the least.

Julius: If this is warfare from 80 years ago in subaru's world... what's warfare like in the present day?

Warden: Like I said, his world is not fighting any major wars at the moment, sure, there might be some minor ones but they're not too bloody to the point millions of people die. I can confidently said most of his world is at peace.

Priscilla: The boy really interests me now, hmm. Priscilla uses her fan to blow a breeze at her face.

Emilia: Poor man.. falling from such a high altitude.

The cast felt bad about the man's plane spinning uncontrollably towards the ground.

"The Navigator Al "Doc" Sadok took out the second. Pinky reported that engine 3 had been hit. That left just 1 engine at full power. The Bf-109's attacked the pub from behind, swarming all over. But due to the cold wind running through the Pub, most of the guns were frozen." The camera shows a crew member shaking his gun, trying to get it to work, so they can fight back against the bf-109's.

Otto: I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

Rem: So they can't fight back now?

Beatrice: Guns may be powerful, but there's a limit on what temperatures it will work at, freezing cold is not one of those temperatures, I suppose.

Crusch: what's gonna happen now that they can't defend themselves?

Most of the cast watched with concerned expressions, knowing that the B17 couldn't fight back now, Rem could be seen holding her hero's hand, Felt could be seeing hugging subaru's left arm, Beako was on his lap, and Emilia was hugging subaru from behind.

"In a turn now, the Pub was repeatedly hit, taking extreme damage, and killing the tail gunner." The camera shows a section of the tail being blown off, and killing the tail gunner (which made some of the viewers flinch back in shock. Being the tail gunner is the last thing you wanna be.) "A shell penetrated, and exploded near the waist gunners, injuring the crew, and creating a huge hole." A gigantic hole on the side of the b17 could be seen, revealing the men inside the plane. "The oxygen supply was taken out, and the Pub spun towards the ground." The plane could be seen falling in circles. "With the crew unconscious, due to lack of oxygen, the b17 fell... for 4 miles."

Felt, calming herself down by hugging Subaru's arm: 4 miles!? how many feet is that?

Warden: that would be 21,120 feet, quite the altitude.

Petra: Holy fuck!

Frederica: petra-chan!

Petra: Sorry! But 21,000 feet?! Just how high were they flying!?

Warden: Quite high, but there's a plane that can fly more than 80,000 feet, although that plane isn't designed for warfare, more for espionage.

Anastasia: A plane that can fly really high but isn't designed for warfare?

Warden: Yes, it flies so high, no missile, or warplane, could ever hope to reach that altitude. Quite a lot of engineering and science went into the sr-71 blackbird. Here, i'll let you see it.

The screen turns to a pic of the sr-71 blackbird, quite the futuristic, sci-fi plane.

Felix: That's the plane that can fly really high, nyan?

Emilia: It's so cool and shiny.

Felt: That's the technology of big bro's world, just how much cool stuff do they have!

Warden: That's actually quite an outdated plane, it's more than 40 years old now.

Crusch: so you're saying that 40 years ago in subaru's world, they made a plane that can fly really high, in order to spy on countries?

Warden: you're right, the sr-71 is made for espionage, and it's speed tops at more than 2,000 miles per hour.

Felt: Holy fuck!

Reinhard: My princess! You shouldn't be swearing like that.

Felt: I know, but doesn't 2,000 miles per hour mean it flies really, really fast?

Warden: Yes, but right now, let's get back to the video.

The cast, even more impressed with subaru's world, returned to watching the screen.

"Charlie started to come around, and grabbed the controls pulling back, as the plane continued to fall. 5,000 feet, 4,000 feet, 3,000 feet, just moments from hitting the earth, the plane pulled up, almost scraping the trees as it did." The camera shows the plane making a sharp turn upwards, barely hitting the trees, the pilot takes off his oxygen mask, a despaired expression on his face, not believing they almost crashed the plane. The camera turns to the sky, and the words "Sabaton and Yarnhub presents: No Bullets Fly" can be seen as heavy metal begins to play.

The B17 can be seen flying on its last legs, almost tilting to the right, but it refuses to give up, knowing it's got some brave men that need to get home to their families, as long as one engine works, she can still fly, even if the other 3 engines are on fire and there are huge holes on the plane and half the tail section was blown off. The camera turns to show off just how badly damaged the B17 is, which shocked the viewers, not understanding how it hasn't fallen out of the sky yet.

Julius: These men truly are brave warriors.

Crusch: And that B17 is still flying, despite the extreme damage it took.

Felt: So this is a real scene that happened in big bro's world?

Warden: Yes, it really did happen in world war 2, in December 20th, 1943.

Emilia: Wow... subaru! you dummy! Why didn't you tell me more about your world? Emilia pulls on Subaru's cheeks, who's still asleep, thankfully.

Petra: What's gonna happen now? How are they gonna make it out of this?

Reinhard: Even I'd be a bit concerned for how long it would fly, doesn't seem like it will fly very far, considering how it's almost destroyed.

Beatrice: Let's just watch, i suppose.

The camera turns to a German soldier refueling a Bf-109, another soldier points to the sky and shouts "enemy spotted!" as the man fueling the plane is surprised, seeing a B17 flying over them. A man's voice begins singing "From down below, an enemy spotted.. so hurry up, rearm and refuel." The german soldier rushes to the Bf-109, starts it up, and flies up to catch up to the badly damaged B17.

"But through the bomber's damaged airframe, see wounded men, scared to their bone!" The Bf-109 gets close to the plane, and sees through the huge hole in the right side of the plane, the wounded crew of the B17. "Look to the right, then look again, and see the enemy in the eye!" The German pilot looks at the B17's crew, they're so close, they can make eye contact. The gunner shouts curses at the Bf-109's pilot and tries to get him to go away by aiming the turret at him, despite it being frozen over.

Emilia: What's happening here?

Warden: So basically, the B17 is heavily damaged and is trying to get home, but a German soldier saw them, and hurried to catch up to them. After seeing the wounded men and how they weren't fighting back, he was having second thoughts about whether he should shoot the plane down.

Frederica: Oh my, and is he going to shoot them down?

Petra: Please no, I don't want these men to die!

Rem: I don't think they're gonna die, Petra-chan.

Felt: I've had enough of death and suffering. Yet the warden here says 75 million people died in world war two!

Warden: Yep, that's the cold, hard truth, life wasn't fun in the 40s.

"No bullets fly, spared by his mercy. Escorted out, out of harms way!" The Bf-109 gets away from the plane as the belly gunner aims his gun at the the german pilot. The Bf-109 can be seen flying behind the B17. The Camera reveals a group of men holding guitars, while the bald guy is moving his arms to the beat of the heavy metal. The B17 and Bf-109 can be seen flying over the group of men.

"Fly, fighting fair, it's the code, of the air! Brothers! Heroes! Foes!" The B17's pilot can be seen with a terrified expression, while the Bf-109's pilot debates on whether to shoot them down. After a couple of seconds, he decides it's not worth it, they can't even fight back, it wouldn't be an honorable fight.

Crusch: Is he saying that in the air, it's an unwritten rule that they must fight fair?

Warden: Yes, because only when the enemy can fight back, that you can live with yourself after killing them.

Frederica: Hm, I suppose that's a good reason to try and not blame yourself too much for killing human beings.

Warden: That's warfare for you.

Julius: What would that stick do?

Warden: that would have been the button that would fire the guns, which would have shot down the B17.

Emilia: And he decided not to?

Reinhard: What a good person, not shooting down men who can't fight back.

Julius: even so.. it's still world war 2, a lot of men have died there.

Beatrice: My contractor has told me quite a bit of his world, but he was too busy hurting himself to tell me more about his world!

The cast flinched, reminded of how subaru relieved himself of the pain from his failed loops.

Rem: But I know that Subaru-kun won't be hurting anymore.. not with me, and everyone else here who know what he has gone through.. for us.. for everyone.. my hero.. *Rem nuzzles her face in Subaru's neck, just the feel of his pulse let Rem know he was alive and well.

Crusch: Subaru deserves a lot of love and support, he shouldn't be carrying the pain by himself. Crusch holds Subaru's hand and softly smiles while looking at his closed eyes.

"Killing machine, Honor in the skies! B17! Flying home! Killing machine, said goodbye to the cross, he deserved!" The camera turns to the planes flying close together, and to the anti-aircraft gun aiming at them, before a soldier declared to stop, because one of their own was way too close to the enemy.

"He risked his life, two times that day, to save an unknown enemy. Escort to safety, out of the kill zone, a short salute, then departed!" The German pilot points behind him, trying to get the B17 to land there, knowing that it wouldn't fly very far like that. The B17's pilots refused to land in enemy territory.

"Fly, fighting fair, it's the code, of the air! Brothers! Heroes! Foes! Killing machine, honor in the skies! B17! Flying home! Killing machine, said goodbye to the cross he deserved!" The German pilot thinks for a moment, before deciding to escort the B17 for as long as it could. The B17's pilot orders the roof gunner to aim at the German pilot, even if the guns are frozen, in an effort to scare him off. The German pilot just looks at the B17 that refuses to land in a field nearby.

Otto: So they wouldn't shoot down one of their own?

Anastasia: They really do care about their soldiers.

Julius: I don't think you'd want to kill your own allies, even if the enemy was right there.

Rem: So now the.. Bf-109.. is escorting the B17?

Warden: Yes, the German pilot saw that they couldn't fight back, so he decided to not shoot them down, and instead escorted them to safety. Know that if he shot them down, he would have gotten his knight's cross, he was only a bomber away from earning that medal.

Petra: so you're saying that if he shot the b17 down, he would have gotten the knight's cross thing?

Warden: yes, but he didn't, instead he chose to escort them to safety, because shooting down men who can't fight back would leave you with nightmares after the war. It's better to just kill men who you know can fight back, but you're faster than them.

One of the B17's crew members peeked over the waist gunner's section, and was surprised at how close the Bf-109 was to the B17, he and the German pilot made eye contact. The heavy metal keeps going as both enemies fly in an unexpected truce. Some of the viewers could swear that the B17 was starting to slow down, which made them concerned about the B17's crew. But, the B17 is a war machine that wouldn't be brought down so easily by 3 damaged engines.

The B17 could be seen steadily falling close to the ocean, but it still kept flying. The German pilot flew alongside the B17 for as long as he could. The B17's pilots could be seen discussing on how they're going to get out of this situation, while the enemy is flying so close to them, yet for some reason he's not shooting them down. Some shots are seen of the B17 and the Bf-109 flying together, the B17's pilot looks at the German pilot, then the German pilot decided he can't fly with them anymore, so he offered them a salute, wishing them luck on their flight, then they parted ways, all while the B17's crew watched him fly away. The crew members can be seen chattering in relief now that the German pilot was gone.

Petra: Why did he go away?

Warden: Because there's limit on how long he can fly for, if fuel gets too low, he must turn back home to refuel.

Julius: So he's gonna catch up to them?

Warden: I'm afraid not, this is the last time they will see each other.. until after the war.

Ram: So you mean to say they see each other again?

Crusch: Two former enemies seeing each other after the war.. I wonder how that would go.

Warden: you'll see.

Emilia decided that Subaru's world was amazing, and everyone else shared the same thoughts. Even Garfiel was excited to see what else the Warden had in store for them. Rem just sniffed her hero's hair, she felt comfort that he was safe and warm in her arms.

"Fly, fighting fair, it's the code, of the air! Brothers! Heroes! Foes!" The Bf-109 can be seen landing in an airfield, the camera turns to the German pilot shaking his head, concerned about the B17. Meanwhile, friendly fighters found the B17, and positioned themselves on both sides of the damaged bomber, and begun escorting it home.

"Killing machine, honor in the skies! B17! flying home! Killing machine, said goodbye to the cross he deserved!" The B17 can be seen safely landing in an airfield, the engines slowing down. The pilots can be seen relieved that they landed safely, despite the brutal damage their plane took. The German pilot can be seen out of his plane, and looking up at the sky, as if wondering what happened to that B17 he escorted to safety. Meanwhile the B17's pilot can be seen looking up as well, as if wondering where is that German pilot that escorted them to safety instead of shooting them down.

The camera turns to the band about to finish their song, then the song finishes. A narrator speaks while an old man holds small models of a B17 bomber and a Bf-109 fighter, and makes them fly close together, while describing how he was escorted by the enemy on that day, before finishing off with a salute, describing that's the last he saw of that German pilot. "The story was kept secret until 1986, when Brown started to search for the German pilot who had shown mercy on that December day, all those years ago."

Anastasia: Why was it kept secret?

Warden: Because soldiers couldn't trust the enemy to show them mercy, even if this particular German pilot showed mercy to that B17, hopefully I explained that right. Another B17 can't trust the enemy to show them mercy, it will either just shoot them down, or show them mercy as well, but they'll most likely be shot down.

Emilia: I see.. so they kept it secret in order to keep other soldiers from trusting the enemy too much?

Warden: yes, they kept it secret in order to prevent soldiers from trusting the enemy.

Rem: I do wonder if he found who he was looking for..

Warden: you're gonna be happy with this.

With that, the cast assumed that the two men found each other again years after world war 2.

"In 1990, Brown received a letter from a man named Stigler. Stigler explained that he had been the pilot of the German fighter who escorted Ye Olde Pub. This video is of their first meeting."

The Camera turns to another elderly man, said elderly man being the German pilot. "Franz, what were your feelings when you met again for the first time?"

"I was so happy as we met, I grabbed him and hugged him." Franz Stigler spoke while making a hugging motion, happy that at least one of the crew members was living well years after WW2

"It wasn't easy.. I love you Charlie". Franz Stigler scratches his head. The camera slowly turns to Charlie Brown

"The fact that he risked his life, really, in many ways, and I wrote him in a letter, and said that if you were.. if you made a habit of feeling sorry for bomber crews, flying up alongside them. I am sure that you were shot down many times." Charlie says that it was stupid of Franz Stigler to feel sorry for the enemy, yet it was honorable.

"But it was not only the audacity, that he came up to us, and then recognizing the threat. If someone had seen him and reported him, it could have been a death sentence." Charlie Brown said.

Frederica: Aw, they really did find each other again.

Crusch: Two former enemies, now good friends.

Anastasia: How would it have been a death sentence?

Warden: If someone reported Franz Stigler for showing mercy to Charlie Brown, Stigler's government would have seen him as a traitor, and put him to death.

Felt: What! That's harsh!

Warden: I'm afraid life was like that in Nazi Germany, if you go against the government, you're dead.

Otto: What kinda life did they have?, It must have been difficult.

Warden: oh believe me, life in Nazi Germany was quite hard.

"Franz gave Charlie a book, and inside the inscription read: In 1940, I lost my only brother as a night fighter. On the 20th of December, 4 days before Christmas, I had a chance to save a B17 from her destruction, a plane so badly damaged, it was a wonder she was still flying." The camera flashes back to the heavily damaged Ye Olde Pub flying home, then it shows the Bf-109 and the B17 flying together. The camera slowly turns down to reveal Brown and Stigler fishing by the docks while talking about something

"The Pilot, Charlie Brown, is as precious to me as my brother was. Thanks Charlie, Your Brother, Franz." The camera looks at the Bf-109 and the B17 flying together, a reminder that during war times, it's not good for one's mental health to kill someone who can't fight back, so it's best to show them mercy, so you can live with yourself, knowing that you let the enemy live another day, they're human beings like you, too.

"In 2008, within a few months of each other, the two firm friends went on their final journey. Franz Stigler never got the knight's cross, but as he always said, he got something better." The camera fades to black as a last shot of the B17 and the Bf-109 can be seen flying together, two enemies in an unexpected truce.

Most of the cast had their hearts skip a beat, and some of them were tearing up in joy, because the two enemies really did find each other again, and they became best friends for many years until they passed away. They now knew that you can find a best friend on the opposing team, warfare is just old men gathering young men who knew each other, and sending them to kill each other, while the old men sit back and relax.

Rem: *sniff* That was so heartwarming.

Felt: It was good of Mr. Brown to try and find Mr. Stigler again, who knew they would have become best friends years after world war 2?

Beatrice: Subaru never told me about this, I suppose, Hmph!

Emilia: Maybe he forgot to?

Crusch: I don't think he knew about it to be honest.

Petra: Oh well, at least mr. warden will show us more about his world, it's so much fun!

Warden: Yes, subaru's world does have some amazing stories.

Julius: It's sad that they passed away though, two enemies meeting each other again and becoming good friends.

Frederica: I wonder what else the Warden has in store for us?

Warden: Oh I've got something planned out next all right, but in the meantime, you guys should take a quick break.

Priscilla: Sure, after that we'll get to see more about that boy's world?

Rem: Who knew my hero came from a world of so many stories.

Emilia: Subaruu! Why can't you be awake to watch with us?

Warden: oh yea about him, I'll think about when to wake him up, but for now, he's your teddy bear.

Emilia, Rem, Crusch, Felt, and other women who love him pouted at each other, before each hugging subaru wherever they could, the rest chuckling at them.

Warden: You guys enjoy yourselves a quick break, we'll be back soon for more.

How was that for a first chapter, 5,000 words is no joke for me, took me 5 hours to write this, oh my god, I have respect for those who write re zero reaction fanfics, this is really hard. But it was worth it, and now I present to you my latest re zero story that hopefully I won't give up on because I've got plenty of material for the cast to react to, I just need them to stay in character but other than that, I'll see you guys in the next chapter!

fuck i need to rest.
