I do not own Nier automata or any of its prequels.
You know there is a feeling when your life is about to change forever. When one must leave their loved ones out of a duty in which you are bound. How many would expect those bound to a duty to belong to the military or serve some corporation of sorts. However, there are those who have sworn their lives in the pursuit of forbidden knowledge and the keeping of it.
Yes, I am such a case for I'm a librarian and sorcerer so for these reasons, I am bound to a contract both signed and sealed in my blood. I am to protect these secrets in both life and death. It is at this time I'm required to make a great sacrifice for the library.
A month ago I was selected due to being the youngest librarian of the order and at the age of 26 I have been ordered to be preserved in the tomb. Yes, the tomb is a device that uses both modern technology and ancient necromancy that will put me into a deep deathless sleep until I am to be awaked by well I can't really say. The higher-ups are trying to keep this as secretive as possible and have not given me all the details.
I close my journal the small back book with a golden book emblem printed on it. I put my fancy black pen in my pocket and moved in front of a mirror in this small dressing room after all I need to get into proper attire before my procedure. So I take one last good look at myself staring into my own brown eyes as I loosen the red tie around my back suit jacket before removing it completely. Then I remove my black dress belt and pants leaving only my red dress shirt. I let out a pent up sigh as I gave a moment's pause before removing the dress shirt leaving me in my plain white underwear.
What is so special about me one may ask if they looked at me a five foot eight causation male with brown eyes and raven black hair Slicked Back in a formal manner, as expected of a librarian. Well, I'm also one the youngest librarians of the order with Imani and Yua both of them are going to be sealed away as well in different libraries.
Each of us was tested before we became librarians. I tested really high in sorcery and the occult while Imani proved to be a historian and Yua well she scored excellent in math and science. So we each have been selected to guard our hoard of knowledge and hope this White Chlorination Syndrome passes but as of now, things look grim at best.
Regardless I have no time to reminisce now. I turn to find a long black robe with golden runes inscribed all over the article. With one more sigh in a futile attempt to calm my nerves and a glance around this small wooden room, I remove my underwear and put on the robe.
When I leave the room I am greeted by my mother, father, and sister. Most members of my family are military with me being to the only exception. My mother dressed in her green captain's uniform, several meddles hanging from her right breast and she stood there looking at me on the brink of tears.
My Father is a true military man who has risen to the rank of colonel. He just like my mother is wearing his uniform clean and pressed bearing the many medals he has earned over the years. Then there's my younger sister by three years who is now a drill sergeant and a good one at that, at least in my opinion. Why they all seem to be in uniform when they are on leave to see me off is odd to me but I'm still glade yet crushed that I only get to see them one last time.
My mother as soon as I take a step towards them wraps me in a big hug. I can feel the tears falling against my neck permeating through the collar of my robe. This caused me to break into tears, as well for everything just hit me at once, breaking the sense of shock I have been under for the past week.
"Mom I'm so sorry." I choke out as my body begins to shake. My Mother moved her head from my shoulder and I turned my head so I could see her face wet with tears.
"No you're doing your duty. Don't ever apologize for that." She also choked out and gave my cheek a kiss before putting her hands on my shoulders while she managed to scold me while doing so in a way only my mother could.
"Alistair you know I love you and I'm proud of the path you choose in life. I wish you could come home and know that I will miss you so much. Words can't describe how painful it is to lose my son but I'm proud of you and know that I will always be with you." She said as I gave her a kiss on the cheek and one last hug before she took a step back and my sister jumped forward wrapped me into a hug as well.
"Alistair you have always been a good brother and while we have always had our differences, I want you to know I love you and will miss you. Now get your ass in gear and get ready for whatever future you too. DID YOU HEAR ME YOUR JOB IS TO SLEEP EVEN YOU CAN'T FUCK THAT UP!. " With those words and a little bit of yelling at the end she took a step back with a smile obviously trying to keep her hard drill sergeant pride yet I could see the tears threatening to break the dam.
Then my father, as stoic as ever moved forward and put his right hand on my shoulder. "Son you may have not joined the military but you made your own path. You found your purpose and something worth giving your life for. I know I don't say it enough but I couldn't be more proud of you. My son gave up everything to protect the knowledge of humanity." With those words, he gave me a quick hug and took a step back before standing in attention while giving me a military salute one would give a higher ranking officer. I felt a sudden sense of pride that I'm making my father proud but that line of thought was interrupted when.
"Master Alistair" A familiar femenin voice just behind me. I turn around to find my grimoire
De Cognitione Vetito. To get my Ph.D., I needed to create my first book. However, what set those who seek to master the occult there book must not only hold their most valued spells and secrets but must have life breathed into it through it's creation process thus creating a grimoire.
"What is it Vetito?" I ask the large black book with a golden image of the face depicting a beautiful woman with venomous snakes for hair.
" Your presence is requested, It's time to enter the vault." Said my Grimoire. I nod to my creation and look at my family one last time.
"I love you all so much but I will do what must be done so I may protect the knowledge of humanity." I turned around and began walking when my dad put his hand on my right shoulder.
"Good luck son and remember death is easy but duty is hard," he said as I began walking down the hallway to a metal security door leading down into a secure stairwell. I give one moment's pause to look back at my family to see them waving at me.
With a stressful sigh and one last wave, I walked down the concrete stairwell. After two flights of stairs, I was met with another sealed metal security door. This door leads to a large metallic room with three automated chain gun turrets and several hidden surprises for anyone entering this area without proper authorization. This vault in which we keep thousands upon thousands of books are sealed with the most advanced security known to man, built to fend off an army if need be.
My bare feet feel cold on the metallic floor so I scurry over to the other side of the large room where I enter my pin code and insert my biometrics which included a rental scan, handprint, and voice analyzer. Then I enter a rather large elevator and hit press the button marked with a large V. The elevator then begins its descent and after about three minutes on the elevator, the doors open revealing a wooden hallway decorated in gothic architecture. In the center of the hallway is a red carpet and standing on each side for a total of twelve female androids each barring an elegant red cloak thus concealing the fact their combat-ready.
Oh, how I love the vault. This place is a gigantic library within a library and 'I could just spend eternity in here'. That thought frightens me a little since it might just be the case. So I continue the rest of the way to the center of this massive vult .
The center of the vault is a room stacked with bookshelves twenty feet tall and in the center of it all is this metal box covered in arcane runes with wires attached at the base. Standing in front of it is a tall, baled elderly man with ebony skin wearing a white suit. His long white beard is nice and combed keeping a professional appearance but his eyes show the man is tired. His eyes are baggy yet he manages to look at me with a glint of hope.
"Alistair my boy please step over here so I can get a better look at you." He commanded in a friendly manner. One he said those words three other members who must have been pursuing books in the area stepped out, each of them well dressed as expected of men and women in their positions.
I move over to the Director of the library and he pulls something out of his pocket. "Alistaire you have accepted the task of guarding this knowledge against those who would seek its destruction. For accepting this monumental task I want to give you this," he said holding out a golden pocket watch. My eyes widened as soon as he pulled out the watch.
"But Director " I started to before he silenced me with a wave, his lips parted in a small smile.
" This watch has been passed down among directors for a millennium. I'm an old man now and I fear there's not much time left."He slipped the watch in my robe's white pocket and motioned the others in the room to open the tomb. The inside of the tomb appears to be a glass containing a strange blue quivering gel. The gel appears to be more than enough to engulf my entire body. As I was staring into my fate one of the other librarians walked over carrying a footstool which he placed in front of me.
The director gave me a light pat on the back. I nodded to the director and my mentor as I walked up and dipped my left foot into the cool blue gel. The sensation of the gel touching, my skin is an odd one cool yet not cold. It was rather pleasant for some reason. Then I placed my right foot in and moved over to the southern edge of the tomb looking at all the others in the room as they lowered the head in respect. With that, I set down and it was then an odd sensation hit me. I felt as if the gel was trying to pull me in as I suddenly felt as if all the energy was leaving my body. As I was about to fall back due to exhaustion if it wasn't for the director suddenly grabbing my arm with one hand while his other was being used to keep my propped up.
"Rember there's other sources of knowledge then just books here. So do your duty but promise me you will protect your life above all else." He commanded as he tapped my head with his right hand.
"Yes, master Ekon" I whispered back, speaking his name as I could no longer hold my eyes open. Then darkness took me as I went into a deathless sleep.
So tell me what you think.
