Is Penny going to be there. It played over and over in Arizona's mind since the moment April had said it out loud. She wanted to meet Penny, at least she thought she did but after her horrific day, losing Abe and realising Callie had probably found the new love of her life she struggled to bring herself to even get ready to go to Meredith's house as she sat in her underwear alone in her big empty house. Every way she turned ruminants of Callie lingered. At home and at work and days like today, moments where all she needed was Callie by her side to make her feel less alone and like she meant something to someone reminded her of how lonely her days had been since Callie left. Watching her move on was hard and the thought of actually meeting the woman was turning her stomach. Arizona reached over to the bedside cabinet and pulled out a brand new packet of cigarettes and a lighter. She'd started smoking occasionally since Callie left.

She lit the end and took a few long drags of her cigarette, and changed into her outfit for the night. She'd picked out something comfortable but also kind of nice looking. She finished her cigarette and stubbed it out into the ashtray next to her bed which was full of butts that made her look like a hard core smoker. It wasn't long before April had arrived outside in a taxi, Arizona took a deep breath before leaving the house. She was really about to meet Penny.

The drive to Meredith's house was around 20 minutes, Arizona felt sick to her stomach the thought of meeting Penny was eating her alive but she was grateful to realise that she had arrived at Meredith's before Callie and Penny which allowed her the chance to start on the alcohol before they arrived.

Callie was on call and knew that she would probably be paged to the pit while she was at the dinner, but she still wanted to be there to introduce Penny to everyone. She'd had picked her up from her apartment building but could feel the nerves radiating off of her. "It's going to be fine you know, Arizona will be fine, she wants to meet you" Callie spoke into the deafening silence that was between them in the car.

"I know. You said, I'm just not sure if it a great idea" Penny replied

"It'll be okay, they'll be working with you on Monday anyway, we're here" Callie said as she pulled up to Meredith's dream house. Meeting Arizona wasn't the only thing Penny was worried about, she'd already encountered Meredith's presence before. Callie parked the car round the side of the house, proudly she let Penny walk in front of her as they came closer to the door.

Arizona had been doing her best to avoid Penny, but Callie had managed to catch her from her walk to the kitchen from the couch and introduced the two before she was paged back to the hospital. Great. She thought. She wasn't just meeting Penny, she was now being left alone with her, but after a few minutes she found that they had an awful lot in common which had saddened her, she'd hoped Penny would be awful but she really wasn't . Arizona resented herself for a few seconds, she really liked Penny.

April had pulled her over for a catch up by the staircase. They downed a glass of wine each and shared their gossip. Arizona really liked Penny and April wasn't getting anything out of Jackson who had spent most of the evening talking to Stephanie barely grating April a glance. It was going to be a long night in.

Callie had finished at the hospital and was on her way back to Meredith's with Owen Hunt. She hadn't heard from Penny in a while but didn't want to seem overbearing in the early days of their relationship so decided against double texting as she would see her again soon.

When they had walked into Meredith's house for the second time that evening the tension could be cut with a knife and all eyes were on Penny. Callie walked and took a seat next to her.

"Did you know?" Amelia sparked a question, she seemed upset.

"Know what?" Callie questioned knowing that Penny was coming to work for Grey Sloan and maybe she had told them, but Amelia's response was not what she had expected and the smile on her face dropped in horror as the words "Penny killed Derek" replayed in her brain like a broken record, and for a split second looked to Arizona for comfort before snapping back and remembering that she couldn't do that anymore. She missed Arizona, in every way but thought it was better for them both to move on. However moving on isn't what she had thought, she'd tried so hard to love Penny, but nothing even came close to the way she felt about Arizona who looked so cute with red lipstick, even when half of it was smeared around her glass. Stop it. Callie had to bring herself back, Penny had killed Derek or at least was there that night and suddenly the woman she had spent the last month with had felt like a stranger, a lie. She needed to go outside for some air. She felt the gaze as Penny's eyes followed her out. Arizona turned her head and watched her leave and shortly after Penny followed her out.

The house started clearing out, April had arranged a taxi to take her and Arizona home who at this stage was struggling to stand; she was so intoxicated, she'd been drinking her feelings away. She'd wanted to go and see if Callie was okay, she hated seeing her upset and a brief look into her eyes Arizona could tell that Callie was indeed upset

She'd tried her best not to vomit in the taxi on the way home. They'd sat in silence and she resonated in her own sadness. She missed Callie and seeing her with another woman, as nice as Penny was, was still heartbreaking. She'd never love another person the way she loved Callie.

The taxi pulled up across the street from Arizona's house, April thanked and paid the driver and helped Arizona out of the back seat, but in doing so dropped her purse onto the pavement and the contents spewed. The taxi drove off and April bent down to pick up her lip gloss and coin purse and as she stood up her body filled with dread, "ARIZONA" she yelled. Everything went dark.

"Callie please don't do this, I..I was going to tell you, I didn't know you knew him" Penny cried from Meredith's back yard

"Knew him? He was my friend, all of our friends. Meredith's husband. You could have told me when I said we were coming here tonight" Callie cried in anger, she was confused. Surely Penny could have told her before. There was only one Derek Shepherd, He was famous for working at Grey Sloan, of course she knew him.

"Callie I'm sorry, Pl..please don't leave me" Penny stuttered but Callie had made it pretty clear that she was done, she couldn't trust her.

"Penny, go home. I'll bring your things back from my place tomorrow, we're over" Callie left Penny on the porch as she strutted towards her car. They'd been outside for an hour but her blood was boiling with anger and she didn't feel the cold. Callie climbed into the driver's seat and let out a sob . Nothing ever went right for her. Maybe she wasn't ready for love yet or maybe she wasn't destined to be in love again, except she was still in love, just not with Penny and as she was sobbing both hands on the wheel in the motionless car, her pager went off. "Get to the ER. NOW". Great. Just what she needed. Another emergency, she turned the ignition and made her way back to Grey Sloan for the third time today,
