Chapter 1: Commutation
(Inside a Prison, Alola)
(Inside a prison library, a man in his mid-forties wearing an orange jumpsuit is reading a book with several more in the table where he is seated. A detective in his late twenties with a Decidueye and a shiny Umbreon in tow then approaches the older man.)
"I hear the guards and librarians here adore you. Taking your free time to read books that would otherwise be collecting dust, not wanting to get into conflict, and spending every day minding your own business." Said The Detective. "It's been a while, Mateus." Said The Older Man. "Indeed it has, Professor Alva." Said Mateus. Mateus then sits down near Professor Alva. "How have things been?" Asked Prof. Alva. "Life's been good Alva, but it isn't the same without you in the office. What about you?" "I've spent a year and four months here, it's been quiet and simple, and I intend to keep it that way for the remainder of my sentence. How are they?" "Ash and Serena? They've been doing well. After the fiasco with Team Rocket was said and done, they traveled around Alola for several months, then they laid low for a little bit to help her with her recovery, after that they spend some time helping out the Aether Foundation with Pokémon and children." "It's nice to hear that they're doing well." "A week back, they celebrated their one year and four month anniversary." "Really?!" "It was supposed to be their year and a quarter anniversary, but Ash's schedule was hectic and they just simply decided to postpone it until things mellowed out there." "I see." "I heard you talked with Zager a while back." "It was a year ago and it wasn't much of a talk, it was more of a confrontation. It was something I felt I had to do." "I'm not judging you." "I know that. He was demanding, as usual, and I took the opportunity to vent out my frustrations. While what much of what Zager said was simply out of anger, he was right about one thing."
(Flashback, One Year Ago.)
"Hahahaha. Perfected or not, the world won't be the same because of you." Said Zager. "What?" Asked Prof. Alva. "You heard me. The work we first did on 700, and then your betrayal and assistance with the International Police and that foolish champion in helping her recover and be a part of society, has changed the world going forward and there is nothing even you or anyone can possibly do to stop it." "Goodbye, Zager." "Don't you walk away from me, Alva! Your actions have left a mark on history! You cannot stop change! Alva, you know I'm right!"
(End of Flashback.)
"Since then, I've been thinking about the impact I've had on the world. I don't know if I should feel ashamed." Said Prof. Alva. "Alva, Just as Serena did not deserve to be tortured by them, you did not deserve to be forced to work against your will by Team Rocket." Said Mateus. "Has she seen her parents yet?" "No, but Serena told me she was finally ready to do so." "That's excellent." "I'm also here to give you some news." "What?" "Based off of your excellent behavior, your sentence has been restructured. You'll be spending the remainder of your sentence under house arrest with the option of a one month parole every six months, effective immediately" "Mateus, I didn't need you to pull me any strings…" "I wasn't the one who restructured your sentence, nor was it the warden." "Then who was it?" "It was Commissioner Blake who restructured your sentence. Also, there's someone outside who wants to see you. Meet me at the entrance when you're ready."
(Professor Alva then leaves to gather his belongings, but not before saying goodbye to the librarians, guards, and prisoners he had befriended. He later meets Mateus at the entrance.)
"I honestly don't even know how to comprehend this." Said Prof. Alva. "Just relax, you won't have to do it all alone." Said Mateus. The main door then opens and the two leave the prison, once outside, a woman with dual sock buns and long locks wearing a Poké Ball shirt and yellow shorts over black leggings along with salmon colored socks and cyan hi top sneakers looks at Professor Alva with joyful tears in her eyes. "Dad." Said The Woman. "R-Rosa? Is that you?" "Yes." Said Rosa before running up to Professor Alva and hugging him.
(Meanwhile, Near Ash's House.)
A young man with spiky hair sporting a red cap, a blue and white striped T-shirt, with Capri colored shorts with red accents, and a pair of blue and white sneakers was walking home with his Pikachu in tow. Upon arriving, he saw a young woman wearing a white shirt complemented with a pink vest as well as a cyan colored skirt and a pair of pink sandals sitting on the porch with a Braixen and a Pancham. But this woman was no ordinary one, she was a Sylveon-Human Hybrid, supporting the physical features of a Sylveon on the frame a human body and smiles on both the man's face and hers, they were clearly happy to see each other. "Ash-kun, Welcome home! How was work today? Eon?" Asked The Hybrid. "Serena, it was as monotonous as usual. At least today was the last day before we leave for our trip, and I get to spend the next few weeks with you sweetheart." Said Ash. "I already finished packing my things." Said Serena. "Shoot! I still need to finish!" "Relax Ash-kun. We still have two days before we leave, and if you want, we can help you finish. Eon." "That would be nice." Ash and Serena then enter the house with their Pokémon in tow.
(Hours Later)
Professor Kukui and Burnet were visiting Ash's house with their daughter, Amelia, to go over a few things before Ash and Serena left for their trip. "You know where everything is, right?" Asked Ash. "Yep. We know where the food is and we know all of your Pokémon's food preferences" Said Prof. Kukui. "It's going to be hard not seeing you or Serena here for a few weeks, but I know that this is something she needs to do." Said Prof. Burnet. "Plus, my sweetheart has been dreaming of traveling abroad." Serena was with Amelia, as well as Braixen and Pancham in her room. "I'm going to miss you and Mr. Ash, Ms. Serena." Said Amelia. "I'll miss you too Amelia, but you do know we're not leaving until the day after tomorrow? Eon?" Said Serena. "I know. But it'll be strange not seeing you or Mr. Ash exchanging smiles every morning." Serena blushed a little at Amelia's response, agreeing that it would be weird that they wouldn't be showing their affection for each other at Ash's house for a few weeks. However, Serena was lost in thought before the sound of Professor Burnet calling Amelia from downstairs snapped her back to reality. "Amelia. It's time to get going. It's almost past your bedtime."
(Serena, Her Pokémon, and Amelia then go downstairs.)
"Alright Amelia, say good night to Ash and Serena." Said Prof. Burnet. "But Momma, I don't want to say good night." Said Amelia "Amelia, dear, I know you're sad that Ash and Serena will be away for a few weeks, but we still have tomorrow to spend time with them before we send them off." "Okay. Good Night Mr. Ash. Good Night Ms. Serena. "Good night Amelia." Said Ash and Serena. "Well, we'd best get going. See you two tomorrow." Said Prof. Kukui "See you two tomorrow as well, Professor Kukui." Said Ash. As both professors left the house with a sleepy Amelia in tow, Ash and Serena were waving while looking at the stars. "Pika Pika. (Good Night.)" Cried Pikachu. "Brai xen. (Sleep tight.)" Cried Braixen. "Pancham Pancham Pancham Pan. (Don't let the bed bug types bite.)" Cried Pancham. Ash and Serena then enter the house with their Pokémon. "Ash-kun, I'm curious. Professor Burnet said something about sending us off. What does that mean? Eon?" Asked Serena. "It's simple Sweetheart, sending someone off is a gesture of well wishes for those going on a trip. It's also used in the same way for people who are going into a new career or venture." "I see. Well, I'm sleepy. Did you finish packing, Ash-kun?" "I'm almost done. I just need to pack a few more things sweetheart." "It just feels so unreal, that I'm actually going to go to the region I was born in. I wonder what it's like over there. Oh! Will Detective Mateus be going with us? Eon?" "Mateus won't be with us on the flight, but he stated that he'll try to be there when we meet your parents." "Okay. Good Night Ash-kun." "Good Night Sweetheart." Ash knew that the next two days were going to be busy for them, but he knew once after all everything was done, that they would have the next few weeks to each other. For Ash, spending time and traveling with his girlfriend and reuniting her with her parents after years of being separated put a smile on his face before he went to his bedroom to sleep.
