Before we begin.
This is technically a port of the original, yes I am the original author I'm just putting it on this site because why not. The original is on Wattpad and I shall leave a link at the bottom of this chapter where you can find the original, fair warning though the spelling and grammar are horrendous. But without further delay, please enjoy the first chapter.
And so the story begins ...
The day was young and most of the town was at a peaceful harmony, the people walked the streets with contempt and happy faces, birds were singing and flowers were blooming, trainers both young and old were enjoying the start of a new summer on the island of Gilissor.
Gilissor, a small island that existed just off the coast of the Kalos region, it wasn't big enough to be considered it's own continent, nor did it have any new breeds or species of Pokémon, what it did promise was a wide variety of different regions Pokémon, as well as three gym's that fed into the Kalos league.
One trainer in particular was enjoying his day immensely, in fact he was celebrating loudly "Yes! Yes I finally did it!" A 16 year old boy came rushing past the local library, the boy wore a red hoodie, dark blue jeans and a pair of button black trainers. In his hand he held a badge, a gym badge nonetheless. "All our hard work finally paid off, we beat Sky and earned the Storm Badge, ah I'm so happy." His excited running soon slowed to a proud stride as he stared at the gym badge. The storm badge was a small cloud with a few aqua coloured lines brushing against it to represent wind. He pulled out a small glass container and placed it in the second slot, the bug badge laid in the first slot. "I can still remember that battle like it was yesterday, Viola was a pretty good opponent but my Dewott and Eevee did the best they could and we-" George's loud recollection of his previous achievements was cut off when he smacked loudly into a tree, he stumbled backwards but lost his footing and landed with a thud on his backside, "ack! ... ow."
As he fell to the ground he lost his grip on the badge case which he accidentally tossed into the air. The trainer watched in fear as the case spiraled through the air, he prayed silently that it wouldn't smash against the ground, and it seems that something heard his prayers, because the case wedged itself between two tree branches. George sighed as he pushed himself off the ground, "oh that's just great" he grumbled, brushing himself down and rubbing his now sore behind. He didn't waste any time in climbing the tree to retrieve it, slowly he made his way up the tree and scooted along the branch that held his badge case. After a few minuets of trying to pry it free, he once again held it in his hands triumphantly, "haha, not even nature can stop me from getting my badges."
"What are you doing up there?" Came a voice from below, the voice belonged a short girl, the beanie that covered didn't do much to hide her blond hair which trickled out from under the hat.
"Oh Chloe, afternoon" George waved to the fellow trainer before making his way down the tree, landing unceremoniously in front of her before straitening out and taking on a professional pose. The girl in front of him crossed her arms, her face clearly showing that she wasn't impressed. "Oh come on Chloe haven't you climbed a tree before?" George guessed that she hadn't from the way he face scrunched up angrily as she balled her fists, grabbing tuffs of her jacket angrily.
Chloe wore a pair of brown boot, dark grey jeans and a dark blue flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, "you want to tell me why your badge case was in a tree? You didn't happen to throw it up there cuz you got your butt handed to you by Sky again right?" Chloe asked, now sporting a confident grin. George simply opened the badge case and presented the contents to her, much to her anger "this changes nothing."
"Um, actually it does. You see, instead of being 1 - 0, it's now 2 - 0. Sorry but it looks like I'm gonna keep my first place position for just a bit longer." It was true that Chloe hadn't gone to the gym yet, the gym leader would only accept a double battle and Chloe only had her Braixen. It wouldn't be a problem if she just caught another Pokémon, however she wanted a type advantage against the flying type gym and finding a rock type Pokémon was proving to be a difficult challenge.
"Well as soon as I find a rock type I'll have one badge and be on the way to catching up to you" Chloe said as she stood in a proud pose, even though her plan had gone horribly wrong so far.
"Aww, but Chloe, by then I would have won two more badges." That went straight to Chloe's head and she sent a fast and heavy fist straight into George's left arm.
"That's for making fun of me, and you just wait I'll be heading to the Kalos league before you even look at the mainland again. As your rival, I'll see to it." Chloe smiled confidently, before turning around and marching off with that same confidence. Despite how angry she was to him, George understood that she was still happy for him, but she still wanted to uphold their rivalry, he smiled as he watched her leave before continuing his own journey, setting his sights for home.
...
After a 15 minuet walk, George had finally reached his house, he rushed up to his room and almost slammed the door on his way in, throwing his bag down on the bed before carefully unzipping it. He pulled a pokéball from the bag and lazily tossed into the air, as the azure light came from the opening capsule he glanced out the window and noticed something unusual. There was a brown box lodged between two branches outside his window "that's odd ... did somebody loose a package? In a tree ... in my garden?"
As his Eevee began to emerge from the light he walked to his window and unlock the old glass window, leaning out the window to inspect the brown box he did indeed confirm that it was a package, a thin white rope laced the outside and held the brown packing paper in place. From inside the room, he heard his Pokémon call out to him "vee ..." it sounded perplexed by his actions.
George glanced over his shoulder and pressed a finger to his lips "shh, I can't get caught out here" the Eevee threw a paw over its mouth, repeating the action to show it understood. George nodded at his Pokémon before turning back to focus on the box, as he reached for the box he found himself leaning further than he estimated, placing a hand on the window sill for support as he began to stretch for the box.
The branches began to shake lightly and George flinched at their sudden movement, drawing back as he heard a Pokémon in the tree begin to stir. "Eee ... Eevee" the Eevee jumped up to the window sill and began to growl at the rustling leaves.
"Calm down, it might just be a Pidgey," the trainer spoke calmly as he extended his arm towards the box again. As his fingers scrapped the paper surface of the package, a Pokémon burst out of the tree, a Pidgey just like he'd guessed. "Oh, would you look at that ... hi there" George waved to the bird Pokémon with a friendly smile, the bird didn't appear to return his sentiment as it took one look at him before diving at him, it's beak glowing a pale white as it approached. George threw his body to the trunk and shouted out "Eevee. Shadow ball! Please!" The bird Pokémon's cry was cut short as it was shot by an orb made of shadows, the blow was strong enough to send it spinning a good distance which also encouraged it to retreat.
Once it had flown out of sight George sighed and turned to give his Eevee a thumbs up as a thank you. "Vee!" Eevee called out to its trainer happily, not wanting to take his chance George quickly lunged at the box, hooking his feet to the window sill so that he could shimmy his way back inside once he was done.
A short while after he had climbed back inside, George and his Pokémon were staring at the box curiously, the Eevee poked and prodded it. It's fur stood on end as it backed away from the box, glancing up at George with a look of concern, "it's just a box, don't worry about it. Now lets see here ..." George inspected the box for any sort of name tag or address, but no matter how many times he turned the box and checked it over, there was nothing. "Welp, there's only one logical thing to do in this situation." He took one end of the string that was tied around the box and pulled it until it unfurled and fell against his hand.
"George I'm going out call me if anything happens" George had barely finished unwrapping the box when his mother shouted up the stairs, although it sounded quiet George had heard every word clearly as if she was right in the room, this effect might of been accomplished thanks to the silence of the house. He peeled back the paper to reveal a wooden box, it looked handcrafted with detailing such as vines and leaves carved out in the wood, there were a few other details that he picked up on but he had to respond to his mother.
"Okay I will mum, see you when you get back" a slammed door was the signal for her departure. "Alright let's see what's inside ..." a chill hung in the air for a moment as he placed a finger under the metal latch that held both halves of the box together. He flicked the lid and pushed the lid up, peering into the box curiously. A leaf stone laid in a velvet red carpeted boxing, the Pokémon looked into the box with a face filled with anxiety and caution "well ... who would send a leaf stone?" George slowly reached for the stone. When his palm grazed the leaf stones surface a shock jolted through his arm and up into his body, George pulled back his arm in surprise and held his hand "AH! What in the world was that? That was ... painful" he felt as if the world was spinning, all of his senses were thrown into disarray and the floor was the last thing he saw as he approached it.
...
...
"Hey are you okay ... George?" As the trainer rose looking for the source of the voice he found no one but his Eevee standing with a worried look on it's face, moments after rising however he threw his right hand to his head and began to rub it lightly and slowly, but something felt off but he just couldn't put his finger on it.
"Ugh, my head. What hit me?" George asked out loud, the voice from earlier sounded like a 13 year old boy, just on the verge of hitting puberty.
"Oh you hit the floor pretty badly" the voice spoke in a concerned tone, George looked at his eevee again, in both confusion and disbelief. Surely that wasn't ... no.
"Wait was that you ..." he pointed at his Eevee with one of his ... claws? Both Eevee and George starred at his hand for seconds before freaking out, a scream erupted from both of them and filled the empty silence of the room. The colour of George's hands had changed colour to a pale white, while his fingers had merged into three brown claws. On the top of his arms had lime green armour on top and the bottom, much like his hands follows with a pale white colour. His other arm was the same and he felt something behind him and with his new hands he grabbed for it. It was a beige coloured tail and it was his. It laid there almost dead like until it started moving, it felt like a third arm as George tried to move it eevee began to speak up again.
"Um ... George how can you hear me ... what's happening to you? Is this a ... what is it called? Oh, is this puberty?" The Eevee asked as it George groaned, holding his stomach as he rose to his feet.
"I-i don't kn-know? Wait . . . p-puberty?! T-this is fa-far from it . . . but I think I-I'm tur-" he was stopped by a sudden snap in his leg, which forced him onto his knees again. He grabbed his leg in pain, a throbbing sensation quickly made itself known to the teenager and as he ripped his trousers off to inspect the cause. He discovered that his feet had also changed, it was almost identical to what had happened to his hands. His legs were beige and his toes had merged into three big brown toes.
As George tried to stand Eevee piped up again "I don't get it what's going on? Is this a human thing?" The honesty in his voice made him sound almost childlike, then again he hadn't been alive for as long as George had. The Pokémon was only 7 years old.
(A little bit of trivia about A sudden change. Now the thing here is that Pokémon age differently to humans, their age is double in human years. In human years eevee would be 14.)
George attempted to stand up a few times only to fall to his knees in pain "I . . . no it's not, I already said that" as George continued to regain balance he felt something tickle his nose, he used in wardrobe for support and slowly slumped across the wall to his mirror. What he discovered when he checked the mirror was that his face had begun to rapidly sprout white hair "oh great I can't believe I'm growing more hair ... wait it's white ... and my skin it's ... am I becoming a Chesnaught?" as he turned to face his Eevee he notice a tuff of brown hair fall past his eyes.
"Hey look at that, now your loosing hair" the Eevee chuckled to itself, George stared at the Pokémon with bubbling anger at the sound of it's laughter, how could it laugh at a time like this? Soon enough his anger boiled over and the Eevee's laugh were met with shouting from its trainer.
"Shut it! This isn't funny Eevee ..." the Pokémon stopped laughing immediately, shrinking back slightly and apologising quietly. George sighed and looked back into the mirror as he checked his balding head "so anyways, what should I call you now? It feels kind of awkward to just keep calling you Eevee." There was a silence then a ripping sound filled the room. White fur spread out of the hole in George's shirt, he nervously tried to cover the rips with his hands and a blush ran across his face as he looked down at his chest, then remember that he ripped off his jeans moments earlier, 'well it might as well get rid of the rest of them' George thought to himself as he ripped of the remains of his clothes 'wow that was easier than excepted ... I guess I have a Chesnaughts strength as well as it's appearance.' The beige colour had completely covered his upper body and was quickly covering the remainder of his head. Four spikes pushed themselves out of George's body, the boy grunted and groaned in pain as a shell sprouted from his back and grew to cover his entire back. The shell had a red and green outline which decorated the shells rim. While the top two shells jutted out further, four more small wide spikes grew on the back of his hands and as they grew the pain that coursed through his body began to ease and fade away. The human was gone, and in his place stood a very confused chesnaught.
"George ... you there ... buddy?" Eevee asked fearfully, approaching the end of the bed worriedly as he watched the Chesnaught clench his hands, staring at them blankly as his mind raced, "hey, say something."
"James ... how about James?" George glanced at the Eevee flashing him a small smile, eevee nodded in agreement. "Then that settles it, you're new name is James." George attempted to take a step towards the bed, but his leg gave way under his new weight and he toppled to the right, James let out a yelp of surprise as George threw out his hand and barely caught himself on the bed, "hah. Okay, not what I had in mind. This is going to take some getting use to ..." It was like his legs had fallen asleep while he was standing, it took him a few minuets to wake them back up and readjust to his new weight but before long he was moving around like normal. As he was about to leave he realized his spikes might not fit through the doorway. After a few minuets of brainstorming with James he decided the best plan of action would be to turn to the side and bend his knees. Halfway through his plan he found out that he could just about make it through the gap without scraping against the doorframe, but he still felt nervous about moving around his home, especially with the shell on his back.
"Well at least you can still fit through the doors, that's good right?" James remarked as he passed slid through the gap between George's legs and the door with ease, before trailing down the hall until he reached the stairs.
"I'm not sure there are many good things to this situation, but I'll take what I can get." As the pair walked down the slightly dusty stairs, however James stopped a few steps behind George, "hold on a second, I want to try something." The Chesnaught stopped and looked over his shoulder, his heart dropped as he was met with the sight of James leaping directly at his face, he flinched and grabbed onto the stair railing as the Eevee struggled around on his back before scurrying underneath it and resting on his shoulder, "phew ... man I've been wanting to do this for a while now."
George sighed, "what? Try and give me a heart attack, don't just leap at me like that, especially on the stairs, what are you mad?" He scolded the Eevee while continuing his way down the stairs.
James simply rolled his eyes at this parenting, "yeah, yeah. Sorry DAD, next time I'll give you a warning." He scoffed before noticing that George was glaring at him, which led him to change his toon very quickly, "okay, okay. I won't just leap at you next time, I'll be more careful, I'm sorry" the Chesnaught blinked and the anger in his face melted away into quite appreciation. The pair walked around the house, dipping into whichever rooms the rooms that did not face into the street and allowed George to make sure he had full control of his new body, their tour of the house came to a stop in the kitchen where George held a hand over the houses main line phone, "who are you gonna call, you're folks?"
"I'll be honest with you James, yeah that's my entire plan." He picked up the phone and stared at it for a moment before using his other hand to press the buttons as delicately as he could, "I'm just going to call them and tell them that I've ... changed, yeah. That's a way to put it." He pressed the final button and held the phone to his ear, well the place is hear use to sit.
The phone rang once, then a second time, a third time, before "hello?" His mother asked down the phone.
'oh god please work ...' George prayed quietly before speaking down the receiver in as calm a tone as he could muster, "um, hi Mum. Listen I need to tell you something ..."
...
The conversation with his family was long, the shock hung over the conversation and it didn't seem to completely leave their faces, and it was difficult for them to understand the full lengths of what happened to their son, while his brother seemed to just accept things and move, George's parents weren't as quick as him. But they did eventually come to an understanding of sorts, "well ... I'm not really sure what we can do about this. I can't go around telling people that my son has ... well, I'm sure you understand."
"Tch, egotist. Just cuz he's a gym leader" James muttered under his breath, he had been sitting besides George on the sofa, George nudged him in the side and he grumbled under his breath.
"I understand, I'll just try to keep myself ... hidden away, if that's best." George sat back on the sofa, he looked at his parents and nodded, "I'm sure I could at least sit out in the garden in the evenings, when it's a bit darker out."
"I suppose that could be alright, you could even go into the field as long as you're careful about it" George's mother smiled at him, trying her best to be supportive of her son, though she felt a distance between him now "... why don't you go clear your head, I think your father and I need to have a talk."
George rose from the sofa quietly and left the front room, he slipped around the corner and stood by the front door, looking out the small window into the darkened street, he stared outside and thought about ... a lot of things. He overheard his parents discussing his future, how he would achieve an education or ... he tried to tune it out as he continued to stare down the road. He placed a hand against the door and sighed.
"So ... what did they say, are you inside forever" his little brother was an excellent spy, however his listening skills seem to stop when school was mentioned.
"It would appear so ..." he took his hand off the door and turned around, his brother was sitting on the mid-point of the stairs. "Hey, how's catching your first Pokémon coming on" Josh held a regular pokéball, looking at it rather disappointedly, despite being of age to begin training Pokémon he wanted to catch his first rather than just be handed one.
"Still nothing ... I'm still trying really hard to catch one though" he tightened his grip on the pokéball and nodded, "I'm not giving up any time soon." George's brother, Josh, was the kind of kid that made a plan and thought that was the best option, a smart kid nonetheless but still young and inexperienced.
"I've got an idea. You need a Pokémon and I'm sort of a Pokémon right? So ..." George pointed towards the pokéball and josh put two and two together. He chucked the pokéball at the Chesnaught, it bounced off his chest and hit the floor with a thud. Nothing.
"What? Why didn't that work?" Josh asked very confused.
"Maybe its because he's still half human" the brothers glanced down at the ground to find James sitting in front of George, both boy's gave a puzzled look, for different reasons of course.
"Okay what is Eevee saying" Josh asked as he stood up and began walking down the stairs.
"Okay first off, his name is James and second he said I'm still half human?" George knelt down beside the Eevee and picked him up, placing him on his shoulder so he would at least be on their eye level, "you wanna explain what you're saying a little more?"
The eevee walked over to the stairs and climbed the dusty steps one by one until George wouldn't have to look down at him anymore "this is just a theory but what if your not entirely Pokémon, like a 60/40 split, you have the looks and probably the strength, but not the mind of a Pokémon, it's still you. When a pokéball captures a Pokémon, it identifies the Pokémon with a DNA scan, right?" George nodded, it was something he had been taught before the summer, James had taken up hiding in his school bag rather than staying in his pokéball during classes. "Anyways, what I'm saying is that when the pokéball scanned you, it didn't register you as a Pokémon but as a human, I guess? Maybe? I don't know how it all works."
George spent a few minuets going back and forth with James as he relayed a translation of the message to Josh, who nodded understandingly for the most part. Once his brother was finished explaining, he let out a long and almost exaggerated "oh. Ah, well that sucks, guess you're stuck inside forever. Sorry man" Josh shrugged, collecting up the pokéball as he passed through the hall. The Chesnaught headed up to his room, with James accompanying him.
George laid sleepy on his bed wondering what was going to happen to him, would he loose his sanity, would he slowly become a full Pokémon and loose the ability to talk to humans along with his human traits, he had no idea. He wondered about many things, like what he could and couldn't do anymore, until something hit him "wait ..." George sat up on his bed "if this happened to me then this could happen to anyone else. Well I hope not, I've got this to deal with first. One thing I need to know though ... is this permeant?" George looked down at his hands, realising that his entire future could be ruined because one a single mistake.
"Well on the bright side you've got me by your side" James said supportively, putting a paw on the Chesnaughts shell to show said support, a genuine and happy smile spread across the Eevee's face.
"Yeah thanks ..." George sighed as he hung his head, he sighed a second time while thinking of being stuck in the same house with his eevee for what might be eternity (well then again there is always Dewott . . . oh wait I left him on my PC after the battle in the Pokémon Centre. Our PC is out of commission too, ugh can this get any worse?) George contemplated distressingly, halfway through the thought though he felt a paw hit his arm.
"Don't treat me like some second place prize!" James shouted angrily before pouting at his friend.
"Relax I'm joking ... besides I'm sure we'll get along even better now that we can talk to each other properly, no more one sided conversations for me" George lied.
"Joy ..." James sighed, as he too realised that he could no longer say what ever he wanted as a response to anything that George said. On that day a whole new chapter began in both the trainers and the Pokémon's lives.
So end's the first chapter -
I'd like to thank you all for reading, It's been a few years since I first uploaded the original version of this chapter so I wanted to do it some justice and ... well, fix it. Make it look nicer, flesh it out a little more too. I hope you continue to read, but if this is as far as you go I hope that you enjoyed it nonetheless.
