Chapter 1 – Before The Weasley Brotherhood

1938–1945 - Tom Riddle – Time at Hogwarts

1938 - Tom Riddle – First Year
Tom first meats Dumbledore and Learns he a Wizard

"Good afternoon. I have an appointment with a Mrs. Cole,
who, I believe, is the Matron here?"

"Oh," said the bewildered-looking girl, taking in Dumbledore's eccentric appearance. "Um . . . just a mo' . . . MRS. COLE!"
she bellowed over her shoulder.

The girl turned back to Dumbledore. "Come in, she's on her way."

Dumbledore stepped into a hallway tiled in black and white;
the whole place was shabby but spotlessly clean.
Before the front door had closed behind them, a skinny,
harassed-looking woman came scurrying toward them.
She had a sharp-featured face that appeared more anxious than unkind, and she was talking over her shoulder to another aproned helper as she walked toward Dumbledore.

". . . and take the iodine upstairs to Martha, Billy Stubbs has been picking his scabs and Eric Whalley's oozing all over his sheets — chicken pox on top of everything else," she said to nobody in particular,
and then her eyes fell upon Dumbledore, and she stopped dead in her tracks, looking as astonished as if a giraffe had
just crossed her threshold.

"Good afternoon," said Dumbledore, holding out his hand.
Mrs. Cole simply gaped.

"My name is Albus Dumbledore. I sent you a letter requesting an appointment and you very kindly invited me here today." Said Albus.

Mrs. Cole blinked. Apparently deciding that Dumbledore was not a hallucination, she said feebly, "Oh yes. Well — well then — you'd better come into my room. Yes."

She led Dumbledore into a small room that seemed part sitting room, part office. It was as shabby as the hallway and the furniture was old and mismatched. She invited Dumbledore to sit on a rickety chair and seated herself behind a cluttered desk, eyeing him nervously.

"I am here, as I told you in my letter, to discuss Tom Riddle and arrangements for his future," said Dumbledore.

"Are you family?" asked Mrs. Cole.

"No, I am a teacher," said Dumbledore. "I have come to offer Tom a place at my school."

"What school's this, then?" Asked Mrs. Cole.

"It is called Hogwarts," said Dumbledore.

"And how come you're interested in Tom?" Asked Mrs. Cole.

"We believe he has qualities we are looking for." Said Albus.

"You mean he's won a scholarship? How can he have done?
He's never been entered for one." Said Mrs. Cole.

"Well, his name has been down for our school since birth." Said Albus.

"Who registered him? He has no family and was born here."
Said Mrs. Cole.

Dumbledore slipped his wand out of the pocket of his velvet suit,
at the same time picking up a piece of perfectly blank paper from
Mrs. Cole's desk.

"Here," said Dumbledore, waving his wand once as he passed her the piece of paper, "I think this will make everything clear."

Mrs. Cole's eyes slid out of focus and back again as she gazed intently

at the blank paper for a moment.

"That seems perfectly in order," she said placidly, handing it back.
Then her eyes fell upon a bottle of gin and two glasses that had certainly not been present a few seconds before.

"Er — may I offer you a glass of gin?" she said.

"Thank you very much," said Dumbledore, beaming.

It soon became clear that Mrs. Cole was no novice when it came to gin drinking. Pouring both of them a generous measure, she drained her own glass in one gulp. Smacking her lips frankly,
she smiled at Dumbledore for the first time, and he didn't hesitate to press his advantage. "I was wondering whether you could tell me anything of Tom Riddle's past? I think he was born here in the orphanage?"

"That's right," said Mrs. Cole, helping herself to more gin.
"I remember it clear as anything, because I'd just started myself.
New Year's Eve and bitter cold, snowing, you know.
And this girl, not much older than I was myself at the time,
came staggering up the front steps. Well, she wasn't the first.
We took her in, and she had the baby within the hour.
And she was dead in another hour."

Mrs. Cole nodded impressively and took another generous gulp of gin.

"Did she say anything before she died?" asked Albus.
"Anything about the boy's father, for instance?"

"She did," said Mrs. Cole, who seemed to be rather enjoying herself now, with the gin in her hand and an eager audience for her story.

"I remember she said to me, 'I hope he looks like his papa,'
and I won't lie, she was right to hope it, because she was no beauty and then she told me he was to be named Tom, for his father,
and Marvolo, for her father — yes, I know, funny name, isn't it?
We wondered whether she came from a circus and she said the boy's surname was to be Riddle. And she died soon after
that without another word. Well, we named him just as she'd said,
it seemed so important to the poor girl, but no Tom or Marvolo or any kind of Riddle ever came looking for him, nor any family at all,
so he stayed in the orphanage, and he's been here ever since."

Mrs. Cole helped herself, almost absentmindedly,
to another healthy measure of gin. Two pink spots had appeared high on her cheekbones. Then she said, "He's a funny boy."

"Yes," said Dumbledore. "I thought he might be."

"He was a funny baby too. He hardly ever cried. And then,
when he got a little older, he was . . . odd." Said Mrs. Cole.

"Odd in what way?" asked Dumbledore gently.

But Mrs. Cole pulled up short, and there was nothing blurry or vague about the inquisitorial glance she shot Dumbledore over her gin glass.

"He's definitely got a place at your school, you say?" Said Mrs. Cole.

"Definitely," said Dumbledore.

"And nothing I say can change that?" Said Mrs. Cole.

"Nothing," said Dumbledore.

"You'll be taking him away, whatever?" Said Mrs. Cole.

"Whatever," repeated Dumbledore gravely.

She squinted at him as though deciding whether or not to trust him. Apparently, she decided she could, because she said in a sudden rush,
"He scares the other children."

"You mean he is a bully?" asked Dumbledore.

"I think he must be," said Mrs. Cole, frowning slightly,
"but it's very hard to catch him at it. There have been incidents. . . . Nasty things . . ." Dumbledore did not press her, though Harry could tell that he was interested. She took yet another gulp of gin and her rosy cheeks grew rosier still. "Billy Stubbs's rabbit . . . well, Tom said he didn't do it and I don't see how he could have done, but even so,
it didn't hang itself from the rafters, did it?"

"I shouldn't think so, no," said Dumbledore quietly.

"But I can't figure out how he got him up there, unless he can do magic.
All I know is he and Billy had argued the day before. And then,"
Mrs. Cole took another swig of gin, slopping a
little over her chin this time.

"On the summer outing we take them out once a year,
to the countryside or to the seaside — well,
Amy Benson and Dennis Bishop were never quite right afterwards,
and all we ever got out of them was that they'd gone into a cave with Tom Riddle. He swore they'd just gone exploring, but something happened in there, I'm sure of it. And, well, there have been a lot of things, funny things..." She looked around at Dumbledore again,
and though her cheeks were flushed, her gaze was steady.
"I don't think many people will be sorry to see the back of him."

"You understand that we will not be keeping him permanently?"
said Dumbledore. "He will have to return here every summer."

"Oh, well, that's better than a whack on the nose with a rusty poker," said Mrs. Cole with a slight hiccup. She got to her feet quite steady, even though two-thirds of the gin was now gone.
"I suppose you'd like to see him?"

"Very much," said Dumbledore, rising too.

She led him out of her office and up the stone stairs,
calling out instructions and admonitions to helpers and children as she passed. The orphans were all wearing the same kind of grayish tunic. They looked reasonably well-cared for, but there was no denying that this was a grim place in which to grow up.

"Here we are," said Mrs. Cole, as they turned off the second landing and stopped outside the first door in a long corridor.
She knocked twice and entered.

"Tom? You've got a visitor. This is Mr. Dumbledore.
He's come to talk to you." Said Mrs. Cole.

Dumbledor entered the room, and Mrs. Cole closed the door on them.

It was a small bare room with nothing in it except an old wardrobe,
a wooden chair, and an iron bedstead. A boy was sitting on top of the gray blankets, his legs stretched out in front of him, holding a book.

There was no trace of the Gaunt's in Tom Riddle's face.
Merope had got her dying wish. He was his handsome father in miniature,

tall for eleven years old, dark-haired, and pale.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he took in Dumbledore's eccentric appearance. There was a moment's silence.

"How do you do, Tom?" said Dumbledore, walking forward and holding out his hand. The boy hesitated, then took it, and they shook hands. Dumbledore drew up the hard wooden chair beside Riddle,
so that the pair of them looked rather like a hospital patient and visitor.

"I am Professor Dumbledore." Said Albus.

"Professor?" repeated Riddle. He looked wary.
"Is that like Doctor? What are you here for? Did she get you in to have a look at me?" Asked Tom.

He was pointing at the door through which Mrs. Cole had just left.

"No, no," said Dumbledore, smiling.

"I don't believe you," said Riddle. "She wants me looked at,
doesn't she? Tell the truth!"

He spoke the last three words with a ringing force that was almost shocking. It was a command, and it sounded as though he had given it many times before. His eyes had widened, and he was glaring at Dumbledore, who made no response except to continue smiling pleasantly. After a few seconds Riddle stopped glaring, though he looked, if anything, warier still. "Who are you?"

"I have told you. My name is Professor Dumbledore and I work at a school called Hogwarts. I have come to offer you a place at my school — your new school, if you would like to come." Said Albus.

Riddle's reaction to this was most surprising.
He leapt from the bed and backed away from Dumbledore,
looking furious. "You can't kid me! The asylum, that's where you're from, isn't it? 'Professor,' yes, of course — well, I'm not going, see?
That old lady's the one who should be in the asylum.
I never did anything to Amy Benson or Dennis Bishop,
and you can ask them, they'll tell you!"

"I am not from the asylum," said Dumbledore patiently.
"I am a teacher and, if you will sit down calmly, I shall tell you about Hogwarts. Of course, if you would rather not come to the school,
nobody will force you."

"I'd like to see them try," sneered Riddle.

"Hogwarts," Dumbledore went on, as though he had not heard Riddle's last words, "is a school for people with special abilities."

"I'm not mad!" Said Riddle while at the same time trying to read Albus mind but only getting blocked.

Acting as if nothing happened. "I know that you are not mad.
Hogwarts is not a school for mad people.
It is a school of magic." Said Albus.

There was silence. Riddle had frozen, his face expressionless,
but his eyes were flickering back and forth between each of Dumbledore's, as though trying to catch one of them lying.

"Magic?" he repeated in a whisper.

"That's right," said Dumbledore.

"It's . . . it's magic, what I can do?" Said Tom.

"What is it that you can do?" Asked Albus.

"All sorts," breathed Riddle. A flush of excitement was rising up
his neck into his hollow cheeks; he looked fevered.
"I can make things move without touching them.
I can make animals do what I want them to do, without training them.
I can make bad things happen to people who annoy me.
I can make them hurt if I want to."

His legs were trembling. He stumbled forward and sat down on the bed again, staring at his hands, his head bowed as though in prayer.

"I knew I was different," he whispered to his own quivering fingers.
"I knew I was special. Always, I knew there was something."

"Well, you were quite right," said Dumbledore, who was no longer smiling, but watching Riddle intently. "You are a wizard."

Riddle lifted his head. His face was transfigured.
There was a wild happiness upon it his finely carved features seemed
somehow rougher, his expression almost bestial. "Are you a wizard too?"

"Yes, I am." Said Albus.

"Prove it," said Riddle at once, in the same commanding tone he had used when he had said, "Tell the truth."

Dumbledore raised his eyebrows. "If, as I take it, you are accepting your place at Hogwarts."

"If I turned this down, a place of great Wisdom,
that I am gassing my family went to,
then I would really be crazy."

"Then you will address me as Professor."

Riddle's expression hardened for the most fleeting moment before he said, in an unrecognizably polite voice, "I'm sorry, sir. I meant — please, Professor, could you show me?"

"Riddle there will be plenty of time for practical demonstrations at Hogwarts, that they were currently in a building full of Muggles and must therefore be cautious." Said Albus.

Dumbledore drew his wand from an inside pocket of his suit jacket, pointed it at the shabby wardrobe in the corner, and gave the wand a casual flick. The wardrobe burst into flames.

Riddle jumped to his feet howling in shock and rage.
All his worldly possessions where in there.
Riddle rounded on Dumbledore crying.
"Why, that all I own. Now I got nothing."

Then he put out the fire leaving the wardrobe completely undamaged.
Riddle stared from the wardrobe to Dumbledore; then,
his expression greedy, he pointed at the wand.
"Where can I get one of them?"

"All in good time," said Dumbledore. "I think there is something trying to get out of your wardrobe."

And sure enough, a faint rattling could be heard from inside it.
For the first time, Riddle looked frightened.

"Open the door," said Dumbledore.

Riddle hesitated, then crossed the room and threw open the wardrobe door. On the topmost shelf, above a rail of threadbare clothes,
a small cardboard box was shaking and rattling as though there were several frantic mice trapped inside it.

"Take it out," said Dumbledore. Riddle took down the quaking box.
He looked unnerved. "Is there anything in that box that you ought not to have?" asked Albus.

Riddle threw Dumbledore a long, clear, calculating look.
"Why do you ask?" Asked Tom.

"Is there?" Asked Albus.

"Yes, I suppose so, sir," Tom said.

"Open it," said Dumbledore.

Riddle took off the lid and tipped the contents onto his bed without looking at them. From the box was a mess of small, everyday objects:
a yo-yo, a silver thimble, and a tarnished mouth organ among them.
Once free of the box, they stopped quivering and lay quite still upon the

thin blankets.

"You will return them to their owners with your apologies,"
said Dumbledore calmly, putting his wand back into his jacket.
"I shall know whether it has been done. And be warned.
Thieving is not tolerated at Hogwarts."

He was still staring coldly and appraisingly at Dumbledore.
At last he said in a colorless voice, "Yes, sir."

"At Hogwarts," Dumbledore went on, "we teach you not only to use magic, but to control it. You have inadvertently, I am sure been using your powers in a way that is neither taught nor tolerated at our school.
You are not the first or will you be the last, to allow your magic to run away with you. But you should know that Hogwarts can expel students, and the Ministry of Magic will punish lawbreakers still more severely.
All new wizards must accept that they abide by our laws."

"Yes, sir," said Riddle again.

It was impossible to tell what he was thinking.
His face remained quite blank as he put the little cache of stolen objects back into the cardboard box. When he had finished,
he turned to Dumbledore and said baldly, "I would like to go to your school, but will point out this is not a vacation home or summer camp,
I haven't got any money or family that can help me,
hent my current locution at this place of nightmares."

"That is easily remedied," said Dumbledore,
drawing a leather money-pouch from his pocket.
"There is a fund at Hogwarts for those who require assistance to buy books and robes. You might have to buy some of your spell books and so on secondhand."

"That the second problem, where do you buy spell books?"
interrupted Riddle, who had taken the heavy money bag without thanking Dumbledore and was now examining a fat gold Galleon.

"In Diagon Alley," said Dumbledore. "I have your list of books and school equipment with me. I can help you find everything."

"You want to come with me?" asked Riddle, looking up.

"Certainly." Said Albus.

"I'm used to doing things for myself,
I go round London on my own all the time. How do you get to this
Diagon Alley — sir?" he added, catching Dumbledore's eye.

Dumbledore handed Riddle the envelope containing his list of equipment, and after telling Riddle exactly how to get to the Leaky Cauldron from the orphanage, he said, "You will be able to see it, although Muggles around you — non-magical people, that is — will not.
Ask for Tom the barman."
Riddle gave an irritable twitch, as though trying to displace an irksome fly. "You dislike the name 'Tom'?"

"There are a lot of Toms," muttered Riddle.
Then as though it burst from him in spite of himself, he asked,
"Was my father a wizard? He was called Tom Riddle too,
they've told me."

"I'm afraid I don't know," said Dumbledore, his voice gentle.

"My mother can't have been magic, or she wouldn't have died,"
said Riddle, more to himself than Dumbledore. "It must've been him.
So — when I've got all my stuff — when do I come to this Hogwarts?"

"All the details are on the second piece of parchment in your envelope,"

said Dumbledore. "You will leave from King's Cross Station on the first of September. There is a train ticket in there too."

Riddle nodded. Dumbledore got to his feet and held out his hand again. Taking it, Riddle said, "I can speak to snakes. I found out when we've been to the country on trips they find me, they whisper to me.
Is that normal for a wizard?"

"It is unusual," said Dumbledore, after a moment's hesitation,
"but not unheard of."

His tone was casual, but his eyes moved curiously over Riddle's face.
They stood for a moment, man and boy, staring at each other.
Then the handshake was broken; Dumbledore was at the door.

"Good-bye, Tom. I shall see you at Hogwarts." Said Albus.

1940 Hagrid First Year - Tom Riddle Third Year

The First Opening of the Chamber and Kicking of Hagrid

Tom Riddle was searching through the library,
found books on Hogwarts history, biography on the founders,
and in the last book he found Slytherin Journal,
he found a tail of a hidden chamber made by his ancestor that would in his thoughts cleans the school of the unworthy, the nonpure.

Tom needed more information and only one teacher would have it.
So he went to Professor Binns to learn more about the chamber,
so he went to Binns classroom and walked up to the Professor.
Tom then asked, "Professor I got a question for you? It is history related but more legend than fact."

"My subject is History, not lore." Said Binns.

"But all lore does have a footing in fact and can I at lest say the legend before you say no." Stated Tom.

"Sure, Tom that is always a good place to start." Said Binns.

"It is that of Salazar Slytherin's Chamber of Secrets."
Said Tom, "Is there any part of the Lore that states the location of the entry to The Chamber of Secrets?" Asked Tom.

"Only thang I can think of is the second floor,
near his office there." Said Binns. "But that just a best guess,
but seeing how a secret chamber is not going be marked on a map,
nor have signs put up pointing the way."

"There is no real Chamber of Secrets,
the castle has been searched by the best wizards since the Lore about the chamber come to light, but no one has found it." Said Binns.

"But maybe you must know of a password to be able to find it and be related to Slytherin." Said Tom.

"There are no known descendants of Slytherin,
so if his bloodline is required to open it,
it will never be opened." Said Binns, "Slytherin was the bad apples of the Hogwarts founders, he wanted those of mixed-blood family lines,
to be expelled, so maybe the chamber never opening is a good thang."
Said Binns, "Some of the most Wizards have mixed blood lines,
including Merlin, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington,
including our own Albus Dumbledore, and you." Said Binns.

But he was already putting events into play. "Mabey that is true."
Said Tom.

Later that day he was on the second floor,
looking in Slytherin original classroom, but found no clues,
he then started searching the other classrooms.
Then he was thinking surely it can't be in the bathroom,
but as he was walking by the bathroom,
he heard something in Parseltongue coming from nearby.

He started following it to the girls room.
He went away into an empty classroom,
turned invisible and walked back out. He then headed out and went into the girls' room and started searching it,
and found a snake on the sink, and talked to it and it opened.
He went underground and found a huge door with a snake across it,
he spoke, and it opened. He went into the chamber,
where he found a huge snake and started attacks on the
school over the next month, but the students were turned to stone,
but they got healed, Myrtle was killed.

A week after Myrtle death, he went up to Albus and asked,
"There a rummer going around about the closing of the school?"

"That is not a rummer, with the death of Myrtle." Said Albus,
"The closure notice is going out tomorrow."

"The school is thousands of years old,
he can't close like this." Said Tom. "If we found who doing this?"

"You know who doing this." Said Albus.

"No, but if I can figure it out?" Asked Tom.

"Don't put yourself in danger." Said Albus.

"You know you not going to stop me, if I lose this place, I got nothing,"
Said Tom, "I can't lose this place, it is special."

They parted, and he started following Hagrid,
after two weeks of following. Tom found Hagrid hiding spot,
"Hagrid, I know you did not do it on purpose, but it must stop."
Said Tom, "She dead, we must stop you, no more can be put in danger."

"I did not kill no one, neither did he." Said Hagrid.

"Hagrid what in the box?" Asked Tom.

"Tom, he did not do anything," Said Hagrid, "I promise."

"I got to turn you in." Said Tom, "You're going cause Hogwarts to close,
if I don't, that not going happen."

"Aragog can't turn people into statues, he is a Acromantula,
a giant spider. This sounds like we have a Basilisk they can do this,
one would be neat, but I don't have one of those." Said Hagrid.

"Aragog run for it." Said Hagrid.

The spider ran for it, Tom tried to grab for the spider,
but Hagrid grabbed him and stopped him, letting the spider get away,
when Armando Dippet and Albus Dumbledore showed up.

"Tom and Hagrid what are you doing here." Asked Dippet.

"He is the one attacking the students."" Said Tom.

"Professor Dumbledore, you know I would never," Said Hagrid.
"do anything to break you trust. That spider does not have the ability,
to turn students into stone, and he would never kill."

"I know Hagrid." Said Dumbledore, "The search continues…"

"Hagrid you brough a dangerous creature into Hogwarts and hide it."
Said Dippet. "For this you are expelled."

"He is Aragog, and he is a Acromantula and does not have the ability to do attacks like what have happened at the school." Said Hagrid.

"Even if your spider did not attack the students,
you still brough a dangerous creature into Hogwarts,
and did not inform the staff." Said Dippet.

"If I were to tell you, what would you have done?" Asked Hagrid.

"Remove it, not kill it." Said Dippet.

"Sorry Professor, but I got nowhere to go,
I got no family." Said Hagrid.

"How about we keep him here as the new assent to the groundkeeper."
Said Albus. "He need to be kept safe, as we agree he did
not attack the students."

"Agreed." Said Dippet.

1961-1968 - Arthur and Molly Weasley – Time at Hogwarts

Meeting of Arthur and Molly

Arthur was watching Molly for a while, but he was trying to hide it,
after a month of this, Molly walked up to Arthur and asked,
"Would you like to go to the Halloween Dance with me?"

"Really?" Asked Arthur. "Me."

"Yes." Said Molly.

Then he hugged her, smiling the hole time.
"You are the greatest ever." Said Arthur.

"Have you been spying on me?" Asked Molly.

"No, not really." Said Arthur, "Been trying to ask you to the dance,
but I figured you been asked already, being the most popular and beautiful girl in school."

"I been waiting on you to ask me." Said Molly. "But decided to take thangs into my own hands, I want you." Arthur looked happy.

"Want to play some wizard chess?" Asked Molly.

"Sure." Said Arthur.

They spent the afternoon playing wizards chess while talking.
"Do you get along with your twin brothers?" Asked Arthur.

"Yes, for the most part." Said Molly.

"So do you like the idea of a big family?" Asked Arthur.

"Don't you have twin brothers to Ronald and Robert?" Asked Molly.

"Yes." Said Arthur and added, "I would not mind a big family,
always someone who has you back."

"That does sound nice." Said Molly.

"This is a Hogsmeade weekend, want to go?" Asked Arthur.

"Sure." Said Molly.

March 1 of 1969 - Arthur and Molly get Married

The wedding of Arthur and Molly Weasley happened on March 1 of 1969.
There invited their new friends from Albus new order,
James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Rubeus Hagrid,
Peter Pettigrew, and Albus Dumbledore of course.
They partied through the night.

1965 - Lupin becoming a Werewolf

1971–1978 – Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew,
James Potter, Lily Evans, and Severus Snape Where at school

1971 – Petunia and Lily Evans Meet Severus Snape

"Lily, don't do it!" shrieked the elder of the two.

But the girl had let go of the swing at the very height of its arc and flown into the air, quite literally flown, launched herself skyward with a great shout of laughter, and instead of crumpling on the playground asphalt, she soared like a trapeze artist through the air,
staying up far too long, landing far too lightly.

"Mummy told you not to!" Said Petunia.

Petunia stopped her swing by dragging the heels of her sandals on the ground, making a crunching, grinding sound, then leapt up, hands on hips.

"Mummy said you weren't allowed, Lily!" Said Petunia.

"But I'm fine," said Lily, still giggling. "Tuney, look at this.
Watch what I can do."

Petunia glanced around. The playground was deserted apart from themselves and, though the girls did not know it, Snape.
Lily had picked up a fallen flower from the bush behind
which Snape lurked. Petunia advanced, evidently torn between
curiosity and disapproval. Lily waited until Petunia was near enough to have a clear view, then held out her palm. The flower sat there,
opening and closing its petals, like some bizarre, many-lipped oyster.

"Stop it!" shrieked Petunia.

"It's not hurting you," said Lily, but she closed her hand on the blossom and threw it back to the ground.

"It's not right," said Petunia, but her eyes had followed the flower's flight to the ground and lingered upon it. "How do you do it?" she added, and there was definite longing in her voice.

"It's obvious, isn't it?" Said Snape. Petunia shrieked and ran backward toward the swings, but Lily, though clearly startled,
remained where she was. Snape seemed to regret his appearance.
A dull flush of color mounted the sallow cheeks as he looked at Lily.

"What's obvious?" asked Lily.

Snape had lowered his voice and said, "I know what you are."

"What do you mean?" Said Lilly.

"You're...you're a witch," whispered Snape.

"You're missing with me." Said Lilly.

"No! You are," said Snape to Lily. "You are a witch.
I've been watching you for a while. But there's nothing wrong with that. My mum's one, and I'm a wizard."

Petunia's laugh was like cold water. "Wizard!" Petunia shrieked,
her courage returned from the shock of his unexpected appearance.
"I know who you are. You're that Snape boy!
They live down Spinner's End by the river," she told Lily,
and it was evident from her tone that she considered the address a poor recommendation. "Why have you been spying on us?"

"Haven't been spying," said Snape, "Wouldn't spy on you, anyway,
you're a Muggle."

Though Petunia evidently did not understand the word.

"Lily, come on, we're leaving!" Petunia said shrilly.
Lily obeyed her sister at once, glaring at Snape as she left.
He stood watching them as they marched through the playground gate, Snape's bitter disappointment, and that Snape had been planning this moment for a while, and that it had all gone wrong..."

Months later in a small thicket of trees.
The shadows cast by the trees made a basin of cool green shade.
Two children sat facing each other, cross-legged on the ground.
Snape had removed his coat now; his odd smock looked less
peculiar in the half light.

"The Ministry can punish you if you do magic outside school,
you get letters." Said Severus.

"But I have done magic outside school!" Said Lilly.

"We're all right. We haven't got wands yet. They let you off when you're a kid because you can't help it. But once you're eleven,"
Severus nodded importantly, "and they start training you,
then you've got to go careful."

There was a little silence. Lily had picked up a fallen twig and twirled it in the air, and she was imagining sparks trailing from it.
Then she dropped the twig, leaned in toward the boy, and said,
"It is real, isn't it? It's not a joke? Petunia says you're lying to me. Petunia says there isn't a Hogwarts. It is real, isn't it?"

"It's real for us," said Snape. "Not for her. But we'll get the letter,
you and me."

"Really?" whispered Lily.

"Definitely," said Snape, and even with his poorly cut hair and
his odd clothes, he struck an oddly impressive figure sprawled in front of her, brimful of confidence in his destiny.

"And will it really come by owl?" Lily whispered.

"Normally," said Snape. "But you're Muggle-born, so someone from the school will have to come and explain to your parents."

"Does it make a difference, being Muggle-born?"

"No," he said. "It doesn't make any difference."

"Good," said Lily, relaxing.

"You've got loads of magic," said Snape. "I saw that.
All the time I was watching you."

"How are things at your house?" Lilly asked.

"Fine," Said Severus.

"They're not arguing anymore?" Asked Lilly.

"Oh yes, they're arguing," said Snape. He picked up a fistful of leaves and began tearing them apart, apparently unaware of what he was doing.
"But it won't be that long, and I'll be gone."

"Doesn't your dad like magic?" Asked Lilly.

"He doesn't like anything, much," Said Severus.

"Severus?" Said Lilly.

A little smile twisted Snape's mouth when she said his name. "Yeah?
Like hearing you say that, someone saying my name with our hate."

"Tell me about the dementors again." Said Lilly.

"What d'you want to know about those dark thangs?" Asked Severus.

"If I use magic outside school…" Started Lilly.

"They wouldn't give you to the dementors for that!
Dementors are for people who do really bad stuff.
They guard the wizard prison, Azkaban.
You're not going to end up in Azkaban, you're too…"
He turned red again and shredded more leaves.
Then a small rustling noise behind them turn.
Petunia, hiding behind a tree, had lost her footing.

"Tuney!" said Lily, surprise and welcome in her voice,
but Snape had jumped to his feet.

"Who's spying now?" Severus shouted. "What d'you want?"

Petunia was breathless, alarmed at being caught and struggling for something hurtful to say then finally said "What is that you're wearing, anyway? Your mum's blouse?"

There was a crack. A branch over Petunia's head had fallen,
but the branch moved strangely and missing Petunia and burst into tears.

"Tuney! You ok." Said Lilly.

"I was mean to you, and you saved me?" Asked Petunia.

"Did you save her?" Asked Lilly.

"I may not like her, but she still you sister." Said Severus.
"If she got heart, you be sad, don't want that."

And the scene re-formed. He was on platform nine and three quarters, and Snape stood next to a slightly hunched, next to a thin, sallow-faced, sour-looking woman who greatly resembled him. Snape was staring at a family of four a short distance away. The two girls stood a little apart from their parents. Lily seemed to be pleading with her sister.
Harry moved closer to listen.

"...I'm sorry, Tuney, I'm sorry! Listen-" She caught her sister's hand and held tight to it, even though Petunia tried to pull it away.
"Maybe once I'm there- no, listen, Tuney! Maybe once I'm there,
I'll be able to go to Professor Dumbledore and persuade him
to change his mind!"

"I don't want to go!" said Petunia and pulled her hand back.
"You think I want to go to some stupid castle and learn to be a freak."

Her pale eyes roved over the platform, over the cats mewling in their owners' arms, over the owls, fluttering and hooting at each other in cages, over the students, some already in their long black robes,
loading trunks onto the scarlet steam engine.
Lily's eyes filled with tears.

"I'm not a freak," said Lily. "Do you hate me? I am still the same.
Even if you hate me, I will always love you."

"That's where you're going," said Petunia with relish.
"A special school for freaks. You and that Snape boy weirdos,
that's what you two are. It's good you're being separated from
normal people. It's for our safety."

Lily glanced toward her parents, who were looking around the platform with an air of wholehearted enjoyment, drinking in the scene.
Then she looked back at her sister, and her voice was low and fierce,
she walked off sad towards Severus then he walked over to Lilly family and said, "Petunia, that was mean, you don't know how lucky you are."

"Why is that? My sister a freak." Said Petunia.

"You got a Sister that loves you, even though you are talking to you like you hate her now." Said Severus. "Will if you don't want her,
I would love to have someone as sweet as her for a sister or anyone,
she still the same person she always been. Go make up to her."

She walked up to Lilly and said, "You may be a freak,
but I don't hate you. Come home for Christmas,
we can try and fix thangs."

"Sure." Said Lilly, then hugged her.

Then got on the train.

1971 – Meeting of Lilly and James and Severus and Sirius

Snape slid open the compartment door and sat down opposite Lily.
She glanced at him and then looked back out of the window.
She had been crying. "What wrong?" Asked Severus.

"I don't want to talk to you," she said.

"Why not?" Asked Severus.

"Tuney hates me. Because of what I am now." Said Lilly.

"So what?" Said Severus, "I don't hate you."

She threw him a look of deep dislike. "So, she, my sister!" Said Lilly.

"But we're going!" he said, unable to suppress the exhilaration in his voice. "This is it! We're off to Hogwarts!"

She nodded, mopping her eyes, but in spite of herself, she half smiled.

"Hopping you be in Slytherin," said Severus, encouraged that she had brightened a little.

"Slytherin?" Asked Lilly.

One of the boys sharing the compartment,
who had shown no interest at all in Lily or Snape until that point,
looked around at that word.

"Who wants to be in Slytherin? I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?"
James asked the boy lounging on the seats opposite him, and with a jolt, Sirius did not smile. "My whole family have been in Slytherin," he said.

"Blimey," said James, "and I you seemed all right!"

Sirius grinned. "Maybe I'll break the tradition. Where are you heading if you've got the choice?"

James lifted an invisible sword. "'Gryffindor, where dwell the brave at heart!' Like my dad."

Snape made a small, disparaging noise. James turned on him.

"Got a problem with that?" Said James.

"No," said Snape, though his slight sneer said otherwise.
"If you'd rather be brawny than brainy."

"Knowledge is Ravenclaw not Slytherin, and Gryffindor is Brave dwell."
Said James.

"Where're you hoping to go, seeing as you're neither?"
interjected Sirius.

James roared with laughter. Lily sat up, rather flushed, and looked from James to Sirius in dislike.

1971 – Sorting of Lilly and Severus and The Marauders

Then Professor McGonagall said, "Evans, Lily!"

Lilly walked forward on trembling legs and sit down upon
the rickety stool. Professor McGonagall dropped the Sorting Hat onto her head, and barely a second after it had touched the dark red hair, the hat cried, "Gryffindor!"

Snape let out a tiny groan. Lily took off the hat,
handed it back to Professor McGonagall, then hurried toward the cheering Gryffindors, but as she went, she glanced back at Snape,
and there was a sad little smile on her face.

The roll call continued. Harry watched Lupin, Pettigrew, and his father join Lily and Sirius at the Gryffindor table. At last, when only a dozen students remained to be sorted.

Professor McGonagall called, "Snape, Severus."

Severus walked to the stool, then she placed the hat upon his head. "Slytherin!" cried the Sorting Hat.

And Severus Snape moved off to the other side of the Hall,
away from Lily, to where the Slytherins were cheering him,
to where Lucius Malfoy, a prefect badge gleaming upon his chest,
patted Snape on the back as he sat down beside him.

1972 – The end of Lilly and Severus Friendship

Lily and Snape were walking across the castle courtyard,
evidently arguing.

"Thought we were supposed to be friends?" Snape was saying,
"Best friends?"

"We are, Sev, but I don't like some of the people you're hanging
round with! I'm sorry, but I detest Avery and Mulciber! Mulciber!
What do you see in him, Sev, he's creepy! D'you know what he tried to do to Mary Macdonald the other day?" Asked Lilly.

Lily had reached a pillar and leaned against it,
looking up into the thin, sallow face.
"That was nothing," said Snape. "It was a laugh, that's all…"

"It was Dark Magic, and if you think that's funny…"

"What about the stuff Potter and his mates get up to?"
Demanded Snape. His color rose again as he said it.

"What's Potter got to do with anything?" said Lily.

"They sneak out at night. There is something weird Lupin.
Where does he keep going?" Asked Lilly.

"He's ill," said Lily.

"Every month at the full moon?" said Snape.

"I know your theory," said Lily. "Why are you so obsessed
with them anyway? Why do you care what they're doing at night?"

"I'm just trying to show you they're not as wonderful as everyone seems to think they are." Said Severus.

"They don't use Dark Magic, though." She dropped her voice.
"And you're being really ungrateful. I heard what happened
the other night. You went sneaking down that tunnel by the Whomping Willow, and James Potter saved you from whatever's down there."

Snape's spluttered, "Saved? Saved? You think he was playing the hero? He was saving his neck and his friends' too! "

Lily's bright green eyes were slits. Snape backtracked at once.

"I just don't want to see you made a fool of,
you know he fancies you, James Potter fancies you!"
The words seemed wrenched from him against his will.
"And he's not everyone thinks, big Quidditch hero."

"I know James Potter's is arrogant," she said. "I don't need you to tell me that. But Mulciber's and Avery's idea of humor is just evil.
Evil, Sev. I don't understand how you can be friends with them."

"I want to see him. I want to see Rob." Said Ron.
"Can we sit on the couch?"

"Sure," they went into the living room.

Ron sat down, and held out his arms, she sat Rob besides him,
Ron then hugged him, there was a small jolt between the two.
"Are you ok?" Asked Molly.

"Yes, what was that?" Asked Ron.

"Not sure, but seems all is fine." Said Molly. "So why Rob?"

"Fred and George have each other, Bill and Charley have each other,

They then fell asleep with each other. Molly tried to pick up Rob,

Said Molly. "I like it."

"You let Ron name the new brother?" Asked Bill.

"Do you not remember who suggest names?" Asked Molly.

Then Ron said, "You know you have one to." Then started playing with Rob's the same way. "You know we look exactly the same everywhere,
but it is fun to play with your balls." Then he smiled.
Then he got Rob back in a diaper, but Rob was still playing with Ron,
"Are you done playing for now." Waiting for Rob to finish playing,
when Rob was finished playing with his new toy,

so she walked away, door closed then she seen,
