Disclaimer: I do not own any characters, settings etc. from Harry Potter

A/N: Hello! This is my first attempt at fanfiction, and the aim is for it to turn into a full series.

This story focuses upon what would happen if Harry was brought up under Pureblood ideals and full access to magical tomes. Be warned, this Harry will be fairly racist, like many established purebloods in the original novels, and will be pretty willing to use several dark methods, such as torture.

Anyway, here is the first chapter, mainly setting up what is to come. Enjoy! :)

Chapter 1: Where it all Went Wrong.

Dumbledore thought himself a pragmatic man. Despite the impending death of the Potter's, he still planned, preparing for the 'greater good'. For months, he had been warned from various psychics and Seers of the impending tragedy, the attack on Halloween. Yet he had also been forewarned its unforeseen consequences, of the banishment of Voldemort, and the survival of Harry.

In the end, the elderly Professor deemed this better in the long run, the destruction of stability of the prophecy child's life. A life away from magic, away from fame and riches, a life to forge a humble and honest child. A child capable of defeating the Dark Lord, once and for all.

And so he plotted, for the Potter child would be sent to his closest family, in this case with his maternal aunt, and so, while perhaps maltreated, the boy would be pure of heart, a saviour of the magical world, and a guardian of the light.

At least, that had been the plan. For on the eve of this perceived tragedy, a true tragedy arose. Dumbledore had been sitting in his office, contemplating the events of the night to come, reassuring himself of his noble sacrifice, of his guardianship of the light. This rumination was doomed to interruption. For Dumbledore soon received a letter; a letter to derail his plans completely.

The letter arrived somewhat inconspicuously, a letter from a rather plain tawny owl, written on scruffy, cheap parchment. He had been ready to discard this letter at first, for a man of his status had no time to deal with the problems of the ordinary folk, for he had far superior threats - he upheld the safety of the wizarding world! Yet he stayed his hand, for he recognised the owl. It was the owl the Potters were using, a hidden messenger from their hidden cottage. Not that it would do them much good, though. For Dumbledore, it was but a matter of keeping up appearances.

And so Dumbledore opened the letter, and found himself dumbfounded by the message within. It was a simple message, a letter of courtesy, from Lily. On the surface, not very important at all, just familial matters. But this case was different, for this case completely derailed his plans.

For within this letter, Dumbledore was informed that the Dursleys had died in a horrific car crash.

In a fit of desperation, Dumbledore had sent a letter to the Potters, urging them to move. But as he sent it, he knew it would not make any difference, it would not arrive in time.

And indeed it didn't, for they did not move, and Tom had arrived at their house in Godric's Hollow. James and Lily had died, just as the Seers had foretold. Harry had survived, just as they said also, but in the peculiar circumstances of surviving a direct hit from the Killing Curse, with only a scar to show for it, and of course the alleged death of Voldemort himself.

In any other circumstance, Dumbledore would have been inclined to investigate this peculiar event, but this was different. For today, the day after the tragedy, was the Relocation of Harry Potter. The magical procedure for Orphans, Harry was to be adopted by his nearest relative, which would have been the Dursleys, his first cousin's family. That had been the point on which Dumbledore had planned, the glorious salvation of Britain requiring a humbled child, isolated from magic. For while Dumbledore, a keen advocate against pureblood custom, was not aware of whom his next closest relation would be, they would surely be magical, and magical was not how Harry needed to be raised. At least, he ruminated, he was not born to Sirius Black, for the close family of his were dark, full of pure-blooded stigma, surely dooming Britain to darkness.

No, he reassured himself, raised in a light household, Harry would still be in line to saving Britain. His ruminations were brought to a close, however, by a single Gringotts goblin.

'Wizards and Witches, if I may have your attention please,' the short creature called out. 'I am Gringotts goblin Griphook, and am personally responsible for the fate of the young Lord Potter, of the Ancient and Noble House of Potter. Here at Gringotts, we have the only complete copy of the Lineage Tree, and so have consulted its wisdom to discern the correct location for the young Lord's upbringing.'

The Lineage Tree was a fascinating piece of magic, tracing every magical lineage on an enormous tapestry. Even following squibbed out and disowned lines, the tapestry showed both political families and blood families. Such differentiation exists due to Relocations such as this, for while in blood Harry shall always be a Potter, he would politically join his new Wizarding Family. In Harry's position as the last heir of a magical line, however, he would not forsake his original family, thus becoming part of both families politically. For Blood Status, however, he would take whichever was 'purer'.

'Through extensive hours of dedicated research,' continued Griphook, 'we have discerned the nearest living relative.' Dumbledore did not miss the stress upon living. 'The young Lord shall be placed with his eldest paternal second cousin, through his paternal Grandmother, Dorea Black.' Dumbledore's heart sank. The Black family was notorious for containing many notorious Dark Lords and Ladies. He tried to recall who was Sirius's eldest sister. Was it Andromeda? She was his last hope, the white sheep in a black family, the last chance for Harry to grow up as his protégé. 'Normally, this would be one Sirius Black, then followed by Bellatrix Lestrange, as the elder siblings of the family'. This wasn't going well. 'However, they are incarcerated, and we must move onto the next sibling. This being the formerly named Narcissa Black. Henceforth, Harry shall be Lord Harry James Potter-Malfoy, of Houses Potter, Black and Malfoy.'

A/N: As an aspiring author, any feedback is welcome, as I am to hone my skills.

I aim to update this story Mondays.

Edit: Thank you to Stevem1 for pointing out the differences from canon relating to how the Blacks are related. This is deliberate, for the canon relations would not work for my story, and Harry would be sent to the Tonks' house.

In this story, the major black characters are siblings, with the order being as follows: Bellatrix, Narcissa, Andromeda, Sirius, Regulus. Hope this clears everything up.
