The Devil's Angel

A/N: I wrote this around the time I recently started liking DMC back in May of this year. I'm still not used to everything about DMC yet but it's just basic fluff for now on my end. Hope y'all enjoy.

Dante slept in the couch with a young infant sleeping on his belly. The baby was only four months old with light brown skin and black curly hair. She was in a basket outside the door to the shop just a few hours ago, a note tucked with her simply said she was four months old and her parents were killed by demons. Because of this, Dante felt the need to protect the young child; raise her as his own.

The moonlight shined into the dark office from the small cracks of the curtains, though it was still pitch-black inside. Dante woke up from his sleep to check on the sleeping child, smiling tiredly at her resting on his chest. He falls back asleep few minutes later; his snores filling the office once more.

The following morning, Dante woke up to bright brown eyes staring into his tired blue ones. The baby smiles at him and he smiled back, acknowledging her cuteness.

"You're a little cutie, aren't cha?" Dante asked her and boops her little nose with his finger making her giggle cutely. He chuckled before sitting up, holding her so she wouldn't fall. He looked at the baby before thinking back on how the note that came with her basket didn't have her name written in it. This made the Devil Hunter realize that he would have to name this child himself.

"Huh, you didn't come with a name." Dante told the young infant. "You can't tell me your name, could you?"

The baby simply babbled before reaching to touch Dante's grizzled face. He smiled before taking her little hands and gently nuzzled his nose with hers.

"Well then, I guess ol' Dante'll give ya a name."

Dante got up from the couch and sat the baby where his head laid moments before. He stood in front of her with a hand rubbing his scratchy stubble in thought. He wanted her to have a good name—something special given how he came to bring her in his life. It wasn't long until a name popped into his head and he snapped his fingers with a wide grin on his face.

"Ah-ha! I know what I'll call ya!" Dante exclaimed happily. "I'll call ya Angel! That's the perfect name for a cutie like you!"

The baby, now named Angel, giggled happily as she reached up for Dante. He stooped to her level and chuckled as her little hands rubbed over his face.

"Well I'm glad you like your new name my little Angel." Dante said with a chuckle.

Suddenly the door creaked open and in stepped Vergil returning from "business" he refused to tell Dante about. The younger twin had completely forgotten that his twin now stayed with him following the events just six months ago.

"I've returned." Vergil stated as he made his way over to Dante. When he spotted the young infant sitting on the floor his curiosity grew.

"Where this child come from?" Vergil asked.

"Last night someone left her in front of the shop." Dante explained. "I took her in now she's mine. Say hi to Uncle Vergil Angel!" Dante said as he carefully picked her up and gently held her out for the older twin to see.

Angel babbled as she reached her little hands out for Vergil. He showed no emotion in his pale face even when the baby finally managed to feel all over his face. Setting Yamato down to lean against the couch, Vergil carefully brought his hands up and held the baby up; examining her every feature.

"She's...cute..." Vergil says bluntly. Dante smiled.

"Don'tcha like her?" He asked. Vergil's brow twitched.

"She's adorable but," Vergil was touched on the cheek. "we cannot keep her."

"Why not?!" Dante asked with a whine.

"Because she's a human. You have no fatherly experience." Vergil stated.

"Neither do you, Verge." Dante retorted back and Vergil's brow twitched a second time.

"Dante," Vergil began as he handed Angel back to him. "This child is a human. She's weak and will grow up mortal."

"But—"

"This child cannot stay here."

"Vergil don't do this! She don't have her daddy or mommy anymore! They were killed by demons!"

"She could end up like them if we keep her Dante."

"I'm keeping her! I don't give a damn whatchu say!" Dante yelled as he held the baby close. Vergil sighed as he resisted the urge to hit his brother.

"Fine. The child can stay. But she is your sole responsibility. Everything and anything she needs is on you." Vergil gave in. Dante smiled as he kissed Angel's cheek.

"Yes! I love ya Vergil!" Dante kisses his brother's cheek and he pushed him away from him as Dante ran to his bedroom with Angel in his arms. Vergil shook his head in annoyance but couldn't help the small smile from spreading across his face.

Perhaps Angel is a sign of something good for him and Dante. Something special. He's already proclaimed as "Uncle Vergil" much to his silent amusement. Vergil shook his head as he too went down the hall to his own room, sneaking a glance at Dante playing with Angel in his bed.

"You need to get her the essentials of infancy." Vergil called out.

"I will right now!" Dante called back.

Vergil gently closed the door to his room. He knew from here on, Angel is the newly adopted granddaughter of Sparda...
