Chapter 31- Cloak and Dagger

"They've grown so much though, this war wasn't even theirs to begin with." Jaune pointed out.

Blake nodded, "I know, that's just the darkest turn I could see this show taking. It is Red vs Blue after all. It would be interesting if they were divided and fought each other."

"Yeah interesting sure, but I don't want to see it." Yang admitted.

"Me neither, maybe in a fake fight but not a real fight." Ruby shrugged.

"Cloak and Dagger" appeared on screen with the theme.

Blake read the title and chuckled. I've been called a cloak and dagger fighter.

Fade in to F.A.C Outpost 37, cuts to the Blood Gulch Crew standing in a hallway.

Tucker: "Okay, hold up. You're telling me that the Feds are just as helpless as the New Republic? I thought they were evil!"

"They did a good job of looking evil." Ruby crossed her arms.

Donut: "Well, we thought you were being brainwashed by terrorists!"

"I once thought the Feds were brainwashing them." Blake recalled.

Grif: "Terrorists? Our soldiers are a bunch of harmless morons!"

Sarge: "Your soldiers?"

Simmons: "We were all promoted to Captains, they gave us squads and everything."

Caboose: "(quietly) Blue Team for life."

"Blue team for life." Ruby nodded.

"No go Red team, suck it blue!" Nora shouted.

Sarge: "Clearly our enemy isn't as cunning as we once thought."

Nora, Blake, and Weiss burst out laughing.

"Sarge can be very clever when he wants to." Weiss wiped her eyes.

Washington: "We don't have an enemy. As far as I can tell, both of these forces have reasons to fight, and neither are particularly guilt-free. We've just been caught in the middle."

"Literally caught in their case." Ren commented.

Tucker: "(emphatic) But, the rebels aren't bad! Some of them are our friends."

Washington: "And we managed to make a few allies within the Federal Army. None of this makes either side any better. The New Republic started this war with extremist attacks on the capitol."

Tucker: "(hostile) But only because the government was screwing them!"

Grif: "You gotta admit, it sounds kinda like a dick move."

Yang laughed, "The government was screwing them. That was a dick move. Nice."

"Grif was referring to the rebels using extremist attacks." Weiss groaned.

Washington: "We need to get these two sides to talk to one another. Doyle is in the capitol at the moment, but maybe he can get this Kimball woman to agree to a meeting. If they can come to some sort of understanding, we might be able to end this thing, and go home."

Blake sighed in relief, "Tucker was right. Wash knows what to do."

"They're not going to fight, they're going to stop a war!" Ruby grinned.

Weiss's face fell, "They're going to become peacemakers? Remember these are the same people who used a bomb for diplomacy with an alien."

"Andy is a very diplomatic individual." Yang snickered.

Simmons: "(uneasy) This isn't right."

Blake frowned, what isn't?

Washington: "Believe me, there's plenty wrong with this situation. But I think this is our best move. I'm just glad you guys made it."

Simmons: "(emphatic) No, seriously, I mean this doesn't feel right. I just can't figure out what it is!"

Blake's eyes narrowed and she perked her ears up. Trying to notice what was wrong before the show revealed it.

Sarge: "Is it a false sense of superiority? That's probably a side effect of the false promotion."

Grif: "Minutes after re-uniting and you're already starting shit."

Sarge: "What did you expect, breakfast in bed?"

Grif: "I hate you."

Sarge: "I hate you more."

"Fight fight fight kiss kiss kiss." Nora giggled. "Grif and Sarge's reunion is everything I could have hoped for."

Simmons: "Wait, do you hear that?"

Tucker: "(unsure) Uhh... No."

Donut: "You okay, Simmons?"

Simmons: "What happened to the alarms?"

Blake's eyes widened, "That's right! At the end of episode eight there were alarms sounding."

"I didn't even notice it in that episode- er well I probably did but I didn't think anything of it." Yang shrugged.

"Me neither, Simmons reminded me." Blake admitted.

Cut to outside the base, Warthog are overturned and weapons on the ground. There are no soldiers in sight.

Ruby frowned, looking at the weapons. "Why are there guns left everywhere?"

"They ran off to save their shit from the shit remember?" Yang chuckled nervously, something about the scene didn't seem natural.

"They took their guns with them." Ruby recalled.

"And what's with the Puma?" Nora added.

Caboose: "(confused) Uhh... Is it lunch time again?"

Washington: "(loudly echoing) Hello? Dr. Grey? Anybody?!"

Tucker: "Dude. What's going on?"

Washington: "(troubled) I don't know."

"Everyone's gone, as if they just vanished." Pyrrha commented.

Fed Trooper 1: "(on radio) Enemy contact, fall back!"

Fed Trooper 2: "(on radio) Where'd he go? (Screams)."

Jaune's eyes widened, "Oh no, Felix! He's coming here to save them, remember?"

Ruby gasped, "Oh no, he's trying to help but.. now that's not helping."

"This is bad." Yang grimaced.

Washington: "(yelling) Sarge!"

Sarge, Donut, and Lopez drive by in a Rocket-hog.

Sarge: "Way ahead of you!"

"It's good to see that despite Sarge's insane personality. He is always prepared when something serious is happening." Weiss smiled.

"Sarge always needs a warthog." Nora grinned. "It's the signature Blood Gulch maneuver."

Simmons: "(panicked) What is happening?"

Washington: "We're under attack!"

The Rocket-hog drives over a hill. Donut and Sarge get out.

Sarge: "Donut, establish a perimeter!"

Donut: "Got it. (yelling) Hey! Just so you guys know, you better not come over here!"

"Red team has always been terrible at establishing a perimeter." Weiss groaned. Recalling when Grif drew a line around Sarge with a sniper rifle.

Lopez: "Usted se avergüenza a sí mismo. [You embarrass yourself.]"

A Fed runs up to Sarge.

Fed: "Thank god, sir, you've got to help us. They came out of nowhere."

"They?" Blake frowned.

Sarge: "Who, the rebels?"

Fed: "No!"

"Not Felix?" Jaune asked.

Sarge: "Oh good, because we kinda just found out that they're really not that bad. Boy, have we got a story to tell you, and you are gonna laugh!"

Fed: "It's not the rebels, sir. It's-"

Fed is sniped by Binary Rifle and disintegrates.

"…"

The group stared at the spot where the fed soldier once was in shocked silence.

Cuts to Sarge and the rest of the Blood Gulch Crew.

Tucker: "Umm... Did everyone else see that?"

Grif: "You mean a man disintegrates right in front of us?"

"I thought when Tucker was worried about members of their squad getting disintegrated that he was just being hyperbolic." Pyrrha grimaced. "I can't imagine getting.. disintegrated like that."

"What kind of weapon could do that?" Ruby asked, horrified.

"Who could do that? I thought it was the Feds that had the fancy weapons." Yang commented.

"They are, Locus was talking to that group of soldiers with advanced looking guns." Ruby recalled.

The Partly-Human Binary Rifle SS— Not Canon

Cinder smirked. With the powers of the fall maiden. I will be able to kill in that way. It will be beautiful, they will dissolve like autumn leaves in the wind. Such a death will only be given to those deserving it. Only others who have felt the power of a maiden will be awarded such a beautiful death.

Tucker: "Yep!"

Simmons: "Really wish I hadn't."

"Me too." Ruby shied away from the screen.

Fed screams. Cut to Feds shooting randomly and all being disintegrated along with a tank being destroyed.

"That tank didn't stop these intruders." Nora sighed.

Dr. Grey is shown hiding behind a wall.

Dr. Grey: "(fearfully) Oh dear…"

Yang and Blake sighed in relief.

Cuts back to Blood Gulch Crew.

Simmons: "We've gotta do something!"

Grif: "We could run! Running is something!"

A sticky detonator round lands on the warthog.

Nora tensed.

Washington: "(urgently) Get away from the car!"

All run away from the warthog. Donut screams and Lopez yells in Spanish. The jeep explodes.

Washington: "What are we dealing with?"

Donut: "(squealing) We don't know!"

Sarge: "Well it ain't the rebels, that's for sure."

"Who could it be? I don't get it." Ruby frowned.

"Be patient, I'm sure we'll find out soon." Weiss turned to the screen.

Tucker: "Then who the hell is it?"

Binary rifle beams appear on all of the Blood Gulch Crew and they lower their weapons. Cut to Locus becoming visible as he walks down a flight of stairs.

Locus: "Like sheep to the pen…"

"What!?" Ruby gasped. "But he's fighting for the Feds?"

Washington: "Oh no…"

Locus: "You're ready for slaughter."

Tucker: "(angrily) Locus!"

Tucker raises his weapon.

Locus: "I advise you stand down, boy."

Members of the mercenary team become visible surrounding the Blood Gulch Crew. Tucker grunts angrily and lowers his DMR.

"Those soldiers from the gas station." Jaune recalled. "But.. they're feds? And so was Locus."

"Yeah I don't get it either.. Are they betraying them? Like a power struggle?" Ruby asked.

Blake shrugged.

"At least we weren't wrong about one thing. Locus is definitely still evil." Yang chuckled. "Even if the regular stormtrooper feds aren't."

Simmons: "(confused) The soldiers from the fueling station?"

Grif: "I thought they were Feds."

Sarge: "Those ain't our guys."

"I guess they're not feds." Jaune raised an eyebrow, confused.

Locus: "I told you, Agent Washington, I am a professional. I complete my missions at all costs. But you, and your comrades have put a blemish on my record."

Camera pans to show Tucker preparing a grenade behind his back.

Jaune and Nora smirked.

"Good one Felix." Nora complimented.

Locus: "This, is unacceptable."

"And unfortunate." Yang quipped.

Washington: "(angrily) What are you talking about? You just killed the men you're working for!"

Locus: "(grunts) It appears you don't understand after all. Unfortunate."

"How does he expect us- I mean Wash to understand? This is coming out of nowhere." Weiss pointed out.

"The feds not being bad guys came out of nowhere too." Ruby commented.

Locus: "You were such a fascinating soldier, Agent Washington."

Locus raises his sniper rifle while Tucker gets ready to throw his grenade. Felix darts in front of Washington and raises his Hardlight Shield just as Locus fires.

Tucker: "(confused) Huh?"

Felix: "(urgently) Tucker! Grenade!"

Tucker: "Oh! Right!"

Tucker tosses Felix the grenade.

The group grinned, ready for Felix to save the day.

Felix: "(*sigh of relief* chuckling), that was close! Nice throw, Tucker! (laughing)"

Jaune's face fell, "No.." his blood ran cold.

Pyrrha pale, Blake gasped. Yang's eyes widened, she began to chuckle while shaking her head. "Oh man."

"Why is Felix laughing like that?" Ruby asked, shivers ran throughout her body.

"He's laughing like someone who knows a punchline the others don't." Pyrrha grimaced.

"Felix is about to feel my punchline! What is he doing?" Nora asked.

Ren simply shook his head. Weiss held a hand to her mouth.

Tucker: "(uneasy) Felix?"

Felix: "How many times have I jumped in front of a bullet for you, Wash? Three? Those are some pretty great reflexes, huh? Most people would have to, plan that sort of thing."

"Plan?" Jaune asked.

"Why.. what..?" Ruby's fists tightened.

Washington: "(suspicious) Felix, what are you doing?"

"Yeah what are you doing Felix!?" Ruby shouted. "You're talking like a bad guy."

"He.. he is a bad guy." Jaune realized, his arms fell weakly to his sides as he sagged.

"But.. no, how can he be?" Ruby asked.

Felix: "Just helping out an old acquaintance."

Felix throws the grenade up to Locus. Cut to a memory of Felix and Locus fighting alongside each other.

Kimball: "(memory) They fought together in the great war."

"Yeah but they're rivals." Ruby frowned.

"That seems like a lie, a lie that Kimball believed." Blake guessed.

"This doesn't make any sense. Felix is so good! He saved them from Locus, he- he." Ruby shook her head.

"He planned it." Blake explained.

"I can't believe it." Jaune shook his head.

Cut back to Outpost 37.

Felix: "You missed a spot."

Locus: "Are you done?"

Locus hands the grenade to the soldier on his left.

Felix: "Not even close."

Grif: "(indignant) Dude!"

Tucker: "(shocked) This doesn't make sense! That's Locus, your enemy!"

Ruby nodded, "Felix is tricking Locus, he has to be."

Jaune shook his head. "I can't believe it." He repeated.

"Me neither, I didn't see this coming.. at all." Blake admitted.

Felix: "(mocking) Riiight, and I'm the charismatic mercenary with a gruff exterior, but a heart of gold. A little too romantic, don't you think?"

"I thought that's what he was." Jaune sagged. "He.. he wasn't perfect but he wasn't evil."

"And that's what made it so believable." Blake grimaced. "It wasn't romantic, it was.. perfect. He wasn't a saint helping the rebels out of the goodness of his heart, that would be too unbelievable. But he wasn't completely heartless either. So he was counted on and trusted."

"But.. why?" Jaune asked.

"I don't believe it." Ruby crossed her arms. "He did so much to help the rebels."

Pyrrha shook her head. "Locus is the cloak, and Felix is the dagger. But he acted like a protective shield."

"He is!" Ruby protested.

Yang sighed, "Oh Rubes."

"He's a traitor!" Nora shouted. "You better believe it because it's true!"

"But whose side is he truly on?" Ren asked.

"The enemy side!" Nora wisely stated while slamming her fists together in a way that made Yang proud.

Wannabe Felix SS— Not Canon

Cinder smiled, "He played his part very well. He infiltrated the New Republic and managed to gain the trust of everyone in it for years."

Mercury grinned, "I think I finally have a favorite."

"Of course you'd like the sociopath." Emerald rolled her eyes.

"A charismatic mercenary with a gruff exterior but a heart of gold." Cinder hummed. "I believe you could play that part like a natural."

Mercury smirked, "I'd even name myself Felix, it looks like a lot of fun."

"I almost hope for a situation where it is needed." Cinder chuckled.

"But don't you think you could play the part ma'am?" Emerald asked.

"No, I don't think it would be believable." Cinder sighed, though she wasn't disappointed at all. "It wouldn't be for you either. As Felix said, it's a little romantic. We would fit in more as cold assassins that are sweethearts deep down willing to fall in love. Similar on the surface. But vastly different in practice."

Emerald grimaced. "I already have to act sweet on the outside. That sounds even worse."

"And that is why Mercury would be a perfect Felix." She turned to him. "You would enjoy acting trustworthy. Just so you could see their faces when your true colors show." Cinder smirked. "For you Emerald, it is a chore."

"Sorry ma'am." Emerald looked down. Mercury beamed at the praise. Imagining himself as a Felix like persona.

"You still play your part perfectly, the Ruby girl trusts you." Cinder smiled.

"She trusts everybody." Emerald frowned.

Cinder chuckled, "Yes, she does."

Neo rolled her eyes at the three. These three couldn't be more obvious bad guys. They could make saving a life look mean.

A Useful Pawn SS— Not Canon

"Having someone as skilled as Felix would be very useful. Especially in Vacuo.. or certain parts of Mistral." Salem smiled. "Young Cinder has described her underlings well to me. I believe one of them could be used like Felix. Though if he was brought here he would no longer be her underling."

"He would be yours!" Tyrian cackled.

"No. He wouldn't." Salem's lips turned downward so slightly no one but Tyrian could notice. Tyrian's face fell, he looked as if Salem had just shouted every insult in the world directly at him.

"None of you are my underlings. You are all my allies." Salem smiled, sweeping the room and giving Tyrian a false motherly smile.

Tyrian's anguish vanished in an instant. He looked ecstatic to be more than an underling, almost as ecstatic as he was to be her underling.

"Felix played his part beautifully. People believe romanticized characters more than real people. Heroes and villains in fairy tales can seem more real than those we love most." Salem lectured. "This sentimentality is why the hearts of mankind are easily swayed."

Tucker: "(angry) But the guy fucking shot you!"

"Yeah!" Ruby agreed, her heart pounding.

Cuts to memory of Felix being shot.

Felix: "(memory) ah! Son of a bitch!"

Felix: "Yeah, funny how an act of sacrifice like that buys you so much trust."

"That's why he was shot in the foot. Locus doesn't miss." Pyrrha pointed out.

"But.." Ruby shook her head, on some level believing her words even though she didn't want to.

"He needed Tucker's trust in that moment to get the grenade." Jaune growled. "So they didn't have a chance to escape."

Felix: "And so much information."

Cut between memories.

Felix: "(memory) Weren't you with another freelancer? And an A.I.?"

Felix: "(memory) I need a detailed list of the supplies you've got on hand."

Felix: "(memory) You wouldn't happen to have any high-tech armor aboard that wreck, would you?"

"In hindsight this all looks so bad." Yang commented.

"But- he was trying to help them! He was trying to defend them from the feds." Ruby sagged.

Cut back to the present.

Simmons: "(confused) But you're supposed to hate each other!"

"I hate them!" Nora huffed.

Felix: "Oh, we do. After all, you should never mix friends with business."

"Yes you should, then it's more fun." Nora huffed. "I hate everything about these two! I want to break Felix's legs. Another act of sacrifice but he'll gain no trust!"

"I'll be right beside you." Pyrrha smirked.

Jaune groaned, "I can't believe my character is a bad guy."

Locus: "(impatient) Wrap it up."

Felix: "But we just work so well together."

Cut to a memory.

Felix: "(memory) Run!"

Palomo: "(memory) What about Rogers?"

Cut to Locus, who hears Felix over the radio.

Felix: "(memory, voice only) Get down!"

Locus dives to the ground as buildings explode.

"They worked together so that they survived every battle against each other. They weren't going to kill each other, but the armies of Chorus might have." Blake realized.

"Felix is a bad guy." Ruby shook her head. "I thought he was their friend. They didn't like him at first but.. he helped them. He was like their mentor."

"Felix and Locus planned to convince Tucker that getting info was a bad idea by having Locus show up and forcing them to blow that place up." Jaune realized. "But why? I don't get it."

"Why play both sides?" Ren nodded.

Cut back to present.

Sarge: "(furious) You dirty liar!"

Felix: "(indignant) Hey, whoa whoa whoa whoa. I never actually lied to you idiots, okay? Well, except for once. (mocking) You're some of the galaxy's greatest soldiers! Pfft! Now that couldn't be farther from the truth. But, you know, it did make you the perfect candidates to lead the people of Chorus. "

"Every time Felix looked like he was protecting them. Helping them, or being nice. He was tricking them." Jaune snarled. "He kept telling them to live to fight another day, to wait and save their friends later because it was too dangerous. He didn't want them reuniting."

"Jaune!" Nora pointed, stopping Jaune in mid-rant. "Do you have any evil intentions?"

Jaune paused, "What? No!"

"I hate Felix but just know that if you are secretly an evil cruel killer… I will support your evil schemes!" Nora smiled.

"What?" Jaune asked.

Nora held a hand up to the side of her mouth to hide her lips from the others. Yet made little effort to be quiet as she silently shouted. "I'll be evil too!"

"Uhh.. okay Nora. I'll keep that in mind." Jaune trembled a little, somewhat more afraid of Nora than he was before.

"Jaune if you were secretly evil, I'd break your legs and drag you to the headmasters office myself." Pyrrha smiled.

"I'm not secretly evil!" Jaune shouted.

"That's just what Felix wanted us to think and now look at us!" Ruby screeched. "I'll be watching you."

A better manipulator SS— Not Canon

Ozma smiled sadly, "Felix manipulated the hope and optimism of others. He stated his intentions but his intentions had hidden agendas underneath. He hid among the New Republic for so long because he never lied. He didn't have to keep track of a web of lies. The best liars tell the truth."

"I find it hard to believe no one noticed." Goodwitch crossed her arms.

"Did you?" Ozpin asked.

Glynda blushed and looked away.

"I will not say that you can't trust anyone. That is naive, we need people we trust in our lives. If only so that we can trust someone. It is a basic need like water." Ozpin explained. "However do not give your complete trust out so easily. Give it sparingly, because trust is also easily stolen." To emphasize his point he gestured to Felix on screen.

"A sad but true lesson sir. I am glad I can put my complete faith in you." Port smiled, his eyes opening for once as he met Ozpin's eyes.

Ozma smiled back and met his eyes. He is right to put his faith in me. Yet it hurts knowing how much trust he has in me. I wish I knew how to destroy Salem, if only so I could stop lying to my allies. I have been betrayed so many times, yet the sting never fades. It's hard to inflict that pain on others. It's disgusting how people like Felix relish in it.

Locus: "(impatient) Stop boasting and let me kill them. We have a job to do."

"Let him monologue! He has some explaining to do." Ruby growled, grinding her teeth together.

Felix: "(to Blood Gulch Crew) Ooh, that's right, he doesn't like you guys. He actually thinks there might be a few fighters among you. Ha! Told you he's crazy."

"In that sense, he's not." Pyrrha smirked.

"How can he say all of this?" Jaune asked. "I can hear that damn smile on his face!"

Washington: "(furious) But why?! Why the capture, why make us part of this war!?"

Felix: "Well, you see-"

Locus: "(frustrated) Felix!"

Felix: "(angry) No! I've had to put up with these morons every day, so you let me have this."

Blake smiled, the writers are making the typical evil villain explains their plan speech believable. I like it. It fits Felix's cocky character, that is one trait that has remained constant.

Felix: "(continuing to Washington) You see, someone, somewhere, out in our galaxy, has their eye set on this planet. The only problem... is the inhabitants. Now, if it were up to me, I'd just nuke this place from orbit. But our employer has other ideas."

Cut to memory of Crash Site Bravo, with Felix on a cliff.

Felix: "Holy shit. It's actually them."

Locus: "Back off, Control wants them alive."

Felix: "(worried) Oh no."

"I was wondering about that." Ren mumbled.

"So they're not Fed or Rebel. Or even on the side of another faction on Chorus." Yang raised an eyebrow.

"Whoever hired them just wants the planet." Blake nodded.

Jaune's eyes widened. "Those three republic soldiers he took with him to meet the reds and blues in the canyon. He probably killed them."

Ruby winced, "That's cruel. Why didn't he just go alone?"

"He didn't, he went with Locus. They probably killed them together." Jaune glared at the screen.

Cut back to Outpost 37.

Felix: "We have to play this thing carefully, you understand? If an entire planet dies overnight, well, people ask questions. But if you stumble onto this rock and find that the settlers killed each other, well... that's just a tragedy."

"Reminds me of Mountain Glenn." Blake grumbled. "Just a tragedy, don't ask questions."

"Just a tragedy?" Ruby repeated, her right eye twitching.

"I can't believe how evil you sound Jaune." Yang commented.

"I know it's weird hearing my voice.. I sound.. I don't even sound angry. I sound like I'm having fun taunting them." Jaune grimaced.

"You are not Felix." Pyrrha put a hand on his shoulder. "You relate more to Tucker than any other character in the show."

Jaune smiled, "I know.. I feel the same way but.. I liked Felix."

"I still like him." Blake admitted.

"What!?" Ruby gasped.

"His character went from mildly interesting, to fantastically written in an instant." Blake explained. "Obviously I don't like him as a person."

"Blake has a villain crush. Like evil Wash." Yang snickered. Jaune blushed and looked away.

"Felix and Wash are completely different." Blake rolled her eyes.

Wannabe Control SS— Not Canon

"Just a tragedy, that's genius!" Jacquees laughed. "Imagine if a competitor- if I had any- faced some horrible tragedy. No questions could be asked if it was just that, a tragedy that impacted many others as well! It would have to be done well, with no traces of my involvement. But it could work."

Whitley looked to his father and smiled, ignoring how revolting his words were.

"Owning an entire planet is possible but difficult for me." Jacquees grumbled. "The inhabitants are a problem for me too. People more so than Grimm. Dust is perfect except it can't get us off this worthless rock. Owning an entire continent however! That is within my grasp."

"Which continent?" Whitley asked.

"Not Menagerie obviously, some wish to call it a continent but it is just a worthless island." Jacquees scoffed. He sounded like he was answering his own question. If Whitley had said nothing he probably would have said the exact same thing.

"But the dragon continent!" The CEO of the SDC continued." That would be perfect. There is no kingdom there that could inhibit my business. And no laws to stop tragedies befalling competitors."

Willow rolled her eyes and drank. My fool of a husband couldn't hide bad intentions if he tried anymore. Twenty or so years ago when we were dating sure. He hid what he wanted without lying to me once. He was once a charmer like Felix. Now he's as obvious as Locus though still as annoying as Felix.

Cut to a memory showing Felix and Locus killing leaders of the New Republic.

Kimball: "(memory) Our first leader was killed in action, the second was assassinated at what we had been told would be a peace treaty. And the third was blown out of the sky while trying to leave Chorus for help."

"I should have expected that they were behind those deaths." Blake commented.

Tucker: "(accusing) It was you... You started this war!"

Felix: "(Mimics Buzzer noise) Wroonng!"

Jaune growled, "What an asshole."

Felix: "These people hated each other way before our operation ever showed up, we just had to keep the hate train a-goin'. And let me tell ya, you guys have helped so much…"

"The war wasn't started because of some bigger evil. They only exploited the evils that were already there." Pyrrha grimaced.

Ruby shook her head, "I was kind of hoping they had started it.. it would have made it easier."

Cut to carnage from the Battle at Crash Site Bravo and back to the present.

Felix: "(coldly) Does it hurt...? Knowing just how much death you've brought to this planet?"

"He's the one who's brought so much death to the planet!" Ruby accused. "Him and Locus!"

"And whoever control is." Blake added.

"They don't care, it's war. Not everyone makes it back." Jaune growled. "Felix made sure so many didn't make it back."

The Exploiter SS— Not Canon

"The Great War was similar. The seeds were already there. I merely exploited them, as did Ozpin, in another host at the time." Salem recalled. "I wonder how it would feel for the Rebels and Feds to know that all of their time and effort has been for nothing. Their deaths have all been for the benefit of another."

"Deaths in war are always for the benefit of another." Watts commented. "Most who fight are too foolish to realize it until after the fighting."

Salem smirked, "You make an excellent point Watts."

Watts beamed, "Thank you, your grace."

Salem turned back to the screen sharply. "I must applaud their plan. It is clever. However what isn't clever is the prideful monologuing." Salem shook her head. "Typical in stories, the villain must explain their plan to the heroes. Pride cometh before the fall."

Watts looked away, fiddling with some tools in his jacket. The draft for his speech to Ironwood when he encountered him again seemed to burn a hole in his pocket.

Salem smirked when she saw this, her little speech had been designed to subtly cow Watts.

Villain Who Won't Monologue SS— Not Canon

"I order you to monologue." Ironwood declared, staring straight into Roman's eyes.

"Sorry General, I left my manifesto in my other jacket." Roman shrugged apologetically.

Ironwood's lips upturned just a little. "I will give you that one."

"Ooh have you moved on to flattery, or have we become Doc and Wash? Are you identifying with me?" Roman asked.

Ironwood straightened up, "We're not at that stage and never will be."

Roman laughed his cruel laugh, "Whatever you say general. So what do you think about the evil master plan?"

"Your boss's or Felix and Locus's?" Ironwood raised an eyebrow.

Roman raised his right back.

"I tried." Ironwood mumbled. "I think it's cruel, and something she would do. I sympathize with both sides, to be used like that would be awful, to learn your fight has been for nothing."

"That's all wars." Roman pointed out.

"Not my war." Ironwood turned away.

The Monologuer SS— Not Canon

Emerald sighed, "I know how Felix feels, I have to deal with those happy idiots every day. But I'm not stupid enough to tell them our plan."

"I'd want to taunt them, but I'd keep it short and sweet." Mercury chuckled like a kid who had just inflicted pain on another and liked it.

Cinder smiled smugly, "Their plan is ingenious and horrific. It would be a shame not to share it with those who are about to die. If possible I'd enjoy taunting the Ruby girl after our plan has succeeded."

The Old Republic SS— Not Canon

Ghira sighed, "I still worry about the White Fang. I know we agreed to leave it be but…"

"What if they are being manipulated by someone else." Kali nodded.

Ghira growled, "They already manipulate themselves."

Kali sighed, "I know, they are poor and misguided."

"Those who are smart and hate the Faunus love the White Fang." Ghira hissed. "They can say, 'look at them, they're violent animals. Don't listen to them.'"

"Everyone in the White Fang is misguided, most who fear the White Fang have only seen one side. Those who perpetuate the lie, win. They are the Felix's and the Locus's who guide both groups into this fear. Just because they benefit from it." Kali snarled.

"We had to leave for a reason. But.. Sienna can moderate the Adam's, the Felix's, and the Locus's." Ghira smiled.

Kali smiled back, "I hope so."

Last of the Brave SS— Not Canon

Leo once again found himself in a pit of self pity and condemnation. "I'm like Doyle. Except I know that I have been manipulated and I know I send the brave to their deaths. He doesn't know, if he knew he would stop. Not like me.. I send them willingly.. because they would die anyway. They might as well die for something."

He tried to justify his actions and failed. He moaned, "In the Mistral I am creating. Only the people like Felix and Locus will be left. The people who will kill me if I don't do what she says."

Leo gripped his head in his hands, pushing against himself as if that would stop the pounding headache. "What is wrong with me?"

The Home of Mercenaries SS— Not Canon

"Do you think Jaune could be like that?" Coco asked.

"Pfft what? No, definitely not Jaune." Sun laughed.

"Yeah, he's a cool guy." Neptune nodded.

Coco frowned, "Beacon fell because of someone parading as a student. I remember her voice. The way she talked, she had the same tone as Felix. That bitch was enjoying hearing herself talk as the world burned around her. And we had no idea she was like that until everything started falling apart. Do you think Jaune could be lying."

Neptune paused, "I uh- no! No, Jaune is still a cool guy."

Sun nodded. "Me and Sun saw him in Mistral. He's still on our side."

Coco's eyes narrowed, "If we see him again, we're going to keep a close eye on him. You better too."

"Fine, fine. But you're worrying about nothing." Sun pointed out.

"I'm still surprised, hearing Jaune talk that way." Fox spoke in everyone's head.

Velvet shivered, Yatsuhashi put a hand on her shoulder. Sage grunted in agreement, though not speaking. He was still giving everyone the silent treatment as he sporadically did.

"I am as well." Yatsuhashi nodded. "The way he spoke is seared in my memory. Though I also remember how the real Jaune spoke. Even though they share a voice, they talk completely different from one another."

Velvet relaxed a little, "You're right, they do."

Scarlet nodded, "Do you think we'll see him again?"

With that, the conversation turned elsewhere.

The Sociopath's Sister SS— Not Canon

Saphron looked at the screen in fear, not believing what she was hearing. "That's not Jaune. That's not my baby brother."

"You're right it's not, please honey. Don't let yourself get worked up. It's not him." Terra pleaded.

"But it sounds like him. Not like him- more like a very twisted version. Like he doesn't care about anything. Jaune is the most caring person I know. Th- Felix is the complete opposite." Saphron trembled. "I can't stand hearing my baby brother sound so cruel."

"But it's not him." Terra repeated.

Saphron nodded and began to chuckled mirthlessly, "You know it's bad when you're the sensible one."

"I've always been the sensible one." Terra huffed as she held Adrian who whimpered, shying away from the screen.

Saphron turned to her son. "Don't worry Adrian. Your uncle isn't like that at all. He's just a sweet dork that's brave at heart. He's a huntsman now, his job is to stop people like Felix."

Adrian, though not understanding a word she said, felt comforted by her. He smiled and laughed, some spittle flying onto Saphron's face.

Terra snickered as Saphron wiped her face. "I hope Jaune never finds out I'm as clumsy and unlucky as he is. I need to keep up the strong big sister look."

"I'm going to have to keep an eye on that kid. I doubt he's a killer, but anyone can be hiding anything." Qrow grumbled.

"Of course that's all you see." Raven scoffed. "What do you think about their little plan?"

"It reminds me of something she would do." Qrow shrugged. "What? Do you want the speech now? About why you should join us?"

"It's something he would do too. They're both the same." Raven explained.

"You are a child Raven, they are not the same." Qrow huffed. "Salem has people like Felix and Locus working for her. Ozpin doesn't."

"I have people like Felix and Locus in the clan. They're strong." Raven smirked.

"Right." Qrow sighed, "And what are you doing with them? Robbing villages and killing families."

"The strong survive, the weak perish." Raven shrugged. "I have some like Felix and Locus. But I will never use them to manipulate others the way they do. They can manipulate the world into fighting. And in the chaos, I will survive."

"You won't, not in her world." Qrow pointed out.

"It's not her world. It's both of there's, neither can die. And he certainly can't beat her. They'll fight and fight until eventually he loses. I trust that he'll hold out for a little longer though." Raven shrugged.

"And if he doesn't?" Qrow asked.

"Then it won't be because I didn't help." Raven scowled.

Pietro and Penny SS— Not Canon

"I don't understand how someone can be so cruel." Penny stated darkly.

"Don't you worry Penny.. some are like that in the real world but not many." Pietro winced.

"I know, I met one." Penny admitted.

"Yes. I ah, remember. Do be careful, please." Pietro begged.

"Of course father, but remember. I am combat ready!" Penny smiled.

"Yes, yes you are." Pietro grinned. "I'm certain you will use your powers for good."

White Fang SS— Not Canon

Adam, Ilia, and Sienna stared at the screen in shock.

"Adam, you haven't hired any help in Vale have you?" Sienna asked. "If I hear word that you have-"

"No ma'am. I would never. Those who fight for me believe in the cause!" Adam smirked. What Sienna doesn't know can't hurt her. I wasn't bought, I was forced to work with Cinder. Our relationship is beneficial to both of us and through her plans the White Fang will rise higher than ever before!

Locus: "(angrily) ENOUGH! How many times must I tell you?! If you want to make the victim suffer, you do it quickly, and efficiently! There will be no rescue for you. You will die here, today, along with the rest. No one will find your bodies, no one will know the truth, and no one is going to stop us from killing every last person on this planet!"

"Guess he got tired of Torch- I mean Felix's talking." Ruby corrected herself.

"He is a lot like Torchwick isn't he?" Blake frowned.

Ruby crossed her arms, "He's worse than Torchwick, at least Torchwick was bad at what he did."

"Felix is good at it. Him and Locus." Jaune nodded.

"Locus really is a monster." Pyrrha grimaced.

"He's more like a robot." Nora commented. "But not the fun kind of robot like Lopez and Freckles. But the mean kind like C.C."

"He's a machine." Ren nodded. "He is willing to do anything to accomplish his mission."

Maniac SS— Not Canon

Tyrian pouted, "Spoilsport Locus is no fun. Quick and efficient takes all the joy out of it. Locus is in the wrong field, he doesn't enjoy what he does. It's all a job for him."

Hazel grunted, "He has the right attitude about it."

Tyrian cackled, "You're no different from me. Not to rain on your parade Reinhart but you enjoy causing pain just as much as I do. You're just pickier."

Hazel glared at Tyrian, then closed his eyes and took a breath. Ignoring Tyrian's words.

Tyrian pouted again, no fun at all. Turning back to the screen he grinned. "Unlike Locus, Felix is a kindred spirit! Ahah! I want to see more!"

Another Bird SS— Not Canon

Cardin stared, wide eyed at the screen. Jaune.. he- no. Cardin shook his head. He let me live, he saved my life. Jaune isn't like Felix. I am. Felix is a bully, more than that he's not a little kid like I was. I was kidding myself every time I hurt others, I did it because I was angry or I wanted my so-called friends to watch me. Felix does it because he likes it.

Cardin grimaced, people like Felix and Locus are truly evil. I was just a kid, pretending to be like them. People like that girl that came on the announcements are the real deal. The people who dropped Grimm into the school are just like Felix and Locus. I was cruel, but I was also a dumbass. I'm glad that Jaune showed me how weak I was. I could have turned into a wannabe Felix. I would have gotten myself killed, trying to exert my will onto people I thought were weak just so I could feel like the top dog.

Cardin looked up at the night sky. "Thank you, Jaune." He mumbled.

The Very Unhappy Huntress SS— Not Canon

Robyn glared at the screen. Ironwood is like Locus. Willing to do anything to accomplish his goals. He'll kill all of Atlas while deluding himself into believing he's saving it. That fucking bastard!

Cruelty of Efficiency SS— Not Canon

"Locus speaks the truth. Efficiency is cruel, the art of killing as many people as possible as fast as possible is our worst fault." Ozpin shook his head. "The arrow, the bomb, the bullet, the poison gas." He listed. And the quicker death it is, the more cruel. It isn't talked about because none other than me have experienced it and lived. It is one thing to die slowly. You can reflect on life, you can fight death, or you can accept it and wait. A quick death however.. there is no thought allowed, only the flash of the blade. It is terrifying and cruel. It's so unjust, to have such a long life cut short. To have all thoughts stop in an instant, to not even be able to think about saying goodbye.

Neo's Favorite Voice SS— Not Canon

I love Roman's voice. The way he talks through Doyle and Locus is funny. I love how dumb he sounds as Doyle, and how deep his voice is as Locus. But neither can beat the real Roman's voice. Turning to the screen she smiled. It's ironic that Felix is the most like him, but the fumbling tall one voices him. I wish they all had his voice. Neo giggled.

"Efficiency and speed are important." Cinder lectured. "However, some dramatics are important as well. Adding flare puts fear into the hearts of the man."

Disagreements SS— Not Canon

"Quickly and efficiently is the opposite of cruel. It ends fighting faster than it started. There's less chance for injury or error that would lead to future incidents." Winter scoffed.

Marrow nodded, "Yeah, but he meant killing. We keep our targets alive. We're not cruel because of that."

Winter scoffed, "We're not barbaric like Locus. He wants to be a true soldier? He's a barbarian."

Harriet shrugged, she liked what Locus had said. She found herself agreeing with him often. If they just killed the real criminals they wouldn't need us. Or even better if we could arrest them before they commit the crime. We know who will do it, why can't we just do our job?

Clover chuckled, "If it's over before it even begins. I call it a success."

Carolina: "Alright. That's all I need to hear."

Carolina drops Tucker's grenade on the ground and leaps off the building in slow motion.

Pyrrha and Jaune gasped. Ruby's face practically glowed in delight.

"Pyrrha!" Nora cheered.

"Carolina." Pyrrha corrected with a smile.

Locus: "(furious) KILL THEM!"

The grenade explodes. Carolina lands in front of Felix.

Felix: "Who the fuck are you?!"

"The 10th episode always has a grand appearance. Last season it was Donut, now it's Carolina. For a while it was Tex." Ren commented.

"Like mother, like daughter." Yang laughed.

"We lost Felix but got Carolina back." Ruby took a breath and grinned hesitantly.

"Man Tex's armor is black too, she could have been in there. Ugh! She had a great ending but I still want her back!" Yang complained.

"Carolina made an entrance like this when she first showed up in season 9." Pyrrha recalled.

"Camouflaged black and everything." Jaune nodded.

Carolina fires at Felix with a suppressor. Felix activates his Hardlight Shield, deflecting the shots. The reflected bolts knock the suppressor out of Carolina's hands and the weapon lands at Grif's feet.

Grif: "(panicked) WHAT-IS-GOING-ON?!"

"Carolina's back is what's going on!" Nora whooped.

"I do not trust Grif with that weapon!" Weiss shouted.

Washington: "(yelling) Just grab it and shoot!"

The Blood Gulch Crew begin firing wildly, Grif also picking up the suppressor and opening fire, gunning down several mercenaries. Dr. Grey runs up and sees the battle.

Dr. Grey: "(confused) Wash?"

Felix and Carolina engage in hand-to-hand combat. Felix is kicked to the ground.

"The animation is.. a lot worse than it used to be.. but I'm having a hard time feeling disappointed by that after everything that's already happened this episode." Weiss commented.

"Remember when we saw Ruby's little fight scene after season 10? That Monty guy is probably busy working on making us look badass." Yang pointed out.

"..We are more important." Weiss nodded with a smile.

"I'll still miss the very detailed fight scenes if he is truly not working on this show anymore. But I can always go back and watch what he made." Pyrrha shrugged.

Felix: "(grunting) You think you're fast?"

Felix is knocked down again.

Felix: "(exasperated) Oh, what the fuck?"

Carolina: "(amused) Faster than you."

Pyrrha smirked.

Felix: "Let's change that."

Felix stabs Carolina in the leg, causing her to yell in pain. Felix kicks her over at the Blood Gulch Crew.

Jaune and Pyrrha winced. "Sorry Pyrrha." Jaune turned to her.

Pyrrha chuckled, "It only just now dawned on me that our characters are fighting."

"Yeah.. if this was us fighting I wouldn't have been able to land a single hit on you." Jaune chuckled nervously.

"Oh.. maybe one." Pyrrha raised a finger.

Felix: "Locus!"

Locus steps forward with an Incineration Cannon. Carolina pulls out a Teleportation Cube.

Carolina: "Stay close!"

Dr. Grey: "(desperately running towards the Reds and Blues) Wait, stop!"

Carolina throws the cube at the ground, teleporting her, the Blood Gulch Crew, and Dr. Grey away from the area, just as Locus' shot hits. Felix looks up at Locus.

Locus: "(fuming) Call Control."

"If Felix hadn't gotten a big head, they wouldn't have escaped." Jaune smirked. "Wow.. I went from rooting for him to rooting against him."

"Yeah I still have whiplash from that twist." Yang quipped.

"You sounded like an authentic bloodthirsty sociopath." Ren complimented.

Jaune grimaced, "That's not a compliment."

Ren hummed, "Felix isn't entirely to blame for the Reds and Blues escaping however."

Pyrrha nodded with a smile. "Carolina infiltrated Locus's squad, Locus is at fault too."

"As methodical as he is, I'm impressed with her." Blake commented.

Cut to the Blood Gulch Crew and Dr. Grey appearing in a remote location.

Grif: "(disoriented) Uh... What just happened, and why did it hurt?"

Dr. Grey: "(dazed) Uh... Where am I?"

Caboose: "I think my insides were just outside."

Pyrrha chuckled and shook her head.

Washington: "(strained) Ugh, is everyone okay?"

Carolina: "(entertained) You know, I never thought I'd be so glad to see you idiots again."

Pyrrha chuckled, "Despite her abandoning them, I'm happy to see her again."

Yang frowned. "Oh yeah, she did abandon them."

"That pales in comparison to what Felix just pulled." Blake pointed out.

"It's not a contest." Yang crossed her arms. "She better explain herself."

Carolina's steel color fades, revealing her usual color.

Tucker: "Carolina?"

Church: "Ah, That's not all!"

Church appears next to Carolina .

Church: "(spreads his arms.) Miss me, assholes?"

Ruby nodded.

"He better explain himself too." Yang gestured to Church.

Tucker throws his DMR to the ground.

Tucker: "You fuck!"

He charges towards Church, but falls through him and hits the ground.

Church: "Huh. (Carolina and Church look at each other.) Wasn't expecting that."

The screen cuts to black and the episode ends.

"…Did Tucker just try to fight Church?" Jaune asked.

"He made the same mistake Carolina did when she shot at him in season ten." Pyrrha nodded.

The tense feeling in the room vanished. Ruby groaned "This episode really got me worked up! Felix is evil. Why does he have to be evil? I liked him."

"I liked him too! He was like my idol. Awesome and smooth." Jaune nodded. "I still can't believe it."

"Come on Jaune, isn't it a little cool to be a villain." Nora asked.

"…a little." Jaune mumbled. "But I didn't want to be! Think about what Locus and him did."

"Think about what the reds and blues did.. how many feds did they kill because of their lies?" Blake asked. Nora grimaced and shook her head.

Jaune's nostrils flared. "If Felix was a freelancer like he said he was at first, he and Gamma would have gotten along great. Even if he never actually lied."

"I can see Locus with Omega." Ruby added with a mumble. "I think they make pretty good baddies."

"This episode was incredible, I could feel the betrayal." Weiss put a hand to her chest.

"Me too." Jaune grimaced.

"It was so well done." Blake sighed, "I almost want to watch it again right now."

"I want to go back and watch everything again so I can see the foreshadowing." Ren commented.

"Boo! I want to see what's ahead." Nora booed.

Jaune nodded, "Yeah, me too."

"Hello! Before continuing to the next episode. Here is a special video for you!" Filss exclaimed.

The group turned back to the screen. Jaune shrugged.

Felix appeared on screen in Valhalla.

"I don't feel like seeing more of Felix right now." Jaune sighed.

Felix: "da-da-da badaba he's a killer, he's a monster, he's an absolute tool, ba-ba-da-ba-bum."

"Why is he singing?" Jaune frowned.

Yang began to laugh, "What is this?"

"He is an absolute tool." Pyrrha crossed her arms.

"No, tools are useful and good." Ruby huffed.

Felix: "he's a douchebag he's an asshole. He masturbates to images of his face."

"I honestly believe it." Blake grimaced.

"A narcissist to top it all off." Weiss's fists clenched. "Maybe we should have seen this coming when he was asking if he was too good looking."

"Oh wow, he really does jack off to pictures of himself." Yang paled.

Felix: "His name is Felix, Felix! Felix, Felix! Felix the doo-houche Felix the douche."

"It's ironic, Lopez kept calling Locus a douche last episode." Weiss recalled.

Felix: "He's gonna stab you in the back while fucking your wife. And making slippers out of your dog."

The clip ends.

"That sounded like an actor getting into character." Blake commented.

"If that's him getting into character, does Felix have no redeeming qualities?" Weiss asked.

"We didn't need to hear his jingle to know that." Pyrrha crossed her arms.

"I liked Vic's jingle more." Jaune commented, chuckling slightly. The clip made light of his would-be favorite character turning out to be evil.

Father and Dog SS— Not Canon

Zwei whimpered next to Tai.

"Aw don't worry bud, no one's making slippers out of you. Even though they would be the most comfy slippers, oh yes they would, oh yes they would!" Tai cooed.

Zwei barked happily.

Tai laughed, "Aw man, those two are assholes. They remind me of why I stopped doing missions for Ozpin."

Huge thanks to LordDeraxus, Guest Halo, Renegadeforlife, Axel771, Grifman275, VanishingVali, Aceman88, and DCCSG2 for the help. If I'm forgetting anyone, I'm sorry. So many of you had great ideas and many of you had similar ideas to others.

Also as for the animation.. I had thought about having them react to the Monty Oum tribute. But to me it felt very rude to do it, I never met Monty. I didn't know him. All I can say is that I miss his work, I love the inspiration he's given me with his work ethic. But still, I can't write a chapter where the characters get sad over his death. It's just inappropriate.

I hope you guys liked the reaction. I didn't want their reactions to be too over the top and unrealistic but I still wanted them to be big. Hope I found the right balance. Let me know what you think about the chapter and their reactions!
