Harry Potter and the Order of Mercaba
by SeraphimBlue
Disclaimer: Harry Potter and all the characters of his universe are owned by J.K. Rowling. I hold no claim over anyone here, except for my original characters and the Order of Mercaba, which is my own creation.
A/N: This story will be crossed over with many genres as it unfolds slowly. Bits and pieces of different worlds will be included as in this universe… they all co-exist. Already you have seen bits from the Chrome Circle Universe by Mercedes Lackey and Wade Wilson from Marvel. More will be mentioned as they are added.
A/N2: As for some reviews I've received… there will not be any romantic pairing between Harry and his grandmother. The words of affection, if you were paying attention, were said to Alex as well and explained as that's just how she talks.
Chapter Nineteen
The Leaky Cauldron
Walking up to the run down looking pub that seemed to shimmer in and out of existence was something new for Harry. He was so used to magic being out in the open and so warm, welcoming. This was dingy, dirty and so secretive… like some dark mystery that people just wanted to hide away from everything around them.
"Seriously? This is the entrance to Diagon Alley? It's pathetic. A filthy pub with a poorly made illusion on it to keep mundanes out. To think, what must newly magical families think when this is the first thing they see…"
Alex winced as Harry's voice carried into the pub and all conversation stopped as every eye turned to stare at them. Alex could see the rising anger in the patrons that clearly thought their pub was just fine thank you very much.
"Come along Harry. No need to be rude, not here and not today."
Harry frowned concerned.
"I'm sorry if I sounded rude but come on… the outside illusion charm is so weak and shotty that it has holes in it and it's so filthy out there that no one who doesn't already know what this place is would want to walk inside."
He turned to an older gentleman behind the bar who was glaring at him.
"Truly sir, I'm not trying to be mean… but have you even checked the magic outside lately? It's getting a bit piecemeal and I think homeless people have been camping in the alley next door and their trash has drifted toward your entrance."
Tom looked toward the door and felt his frown fading a bit. He'd had troubles with homeless in the past and honestly… he hadn't really looked outside in a while.
"I'll take a look and see for myself. Are you two needing the Alley?"
Alex nodded.
"Yes please… if you don't mind. I'm sorry about Harry. He tends to speak his thoughts before engaging his mind sometimes."
Tom nodded and looked at the boy's face. Tanned skin pulled taught over noble features, high cheekbones, long black hair with what looked like blood red streaks, vibrant… emerald green eyes.
"No… it can't be…"
He looked from Harry to the man with him then back again. Looking around his pub, he leaned in and whispered to Alex.
"Is the boy… Harry Potter?"
Alex looked around the rest of the room and nodded slowly. Tom's eyes went wide and a slow smile crossed his face… only to fade as he caught a grip on his emotions.
"Yes then… I'll open the wall for you then go check on my charms. Thank you."
Tom led then to the entrance to Diagon Alley and as the door unfolded open, he gave Harry a smile.
"You're looking healthy son. I'm glad to see the family you're with is taking good care of you. You two have a good day."
Alex nodded as Tom headed back inside then guided Harry into Diagon Alley proper.
"Everything is so… old."
Harry stared in shock at how ancient everything looked in comparison to the rest of the world and other magical areas he'd been to.
"It's like something from the medieval era…"
Alex snorted.
"It's not that bad… but yeah, it's fairly out of date."
Harry followed his dad as they walked toward Gringots. As he passed by people wearing robes, he just shook his head.
"The magical districts in France, India and Japan are so much more modern compared to this. How do they all stand it?"
Harry failed to notice the frowns on the faces of those he passed, but Alex saw it all. True, Magical Britain was very behind the times… but it was best to keep a low profile.
"Enough Harry… you're upsetting people."
Harry winced and lowered his head as they approached the bank.
"Sorry… I'll just shut up then."
Moping he walked up the steps and waited for his dad to guide him to one of the tellers.
"Alexander Morrigan and son to speak to Feldspar. He's expecting us."
The goblin behind the desk looked at the two of them and nodded before motioning to a nearby goblin.
"Take these two to see Feldspar."
The goblin nodded and motioned for them to follow.
Diagon Alley
Standing off to the side, partially covered by the shadow of the awning of the building next to her, stood Rita Skeeter. It had been a slow business day and she was doing what she does best… observing people. She needed a new story to sell and had so far come up dry… that is, until she heard the young voice that drifted down the alley.
"The magical districts in France, India and Japan are so much more modern compared to this. How do they all stand it?"
Rita found the speaker fairly easy as many eyes turned to look in the boy's direction. Tall for his young age, the boy was surprisingly handsome with long shiny black hair accented with what looked like red the color of blood.
"Most interesting hairstyle… I've never seen anything like it."
The boy's hair came halfway down his back and had multiple strands of hair braided into tight ropes that were tied around his head… almost like a bandanna. It was most striking… but it paled in comparison to his eyes… his gorgeous vibrant emerald green eyes.
Her eyes darted up to his forehead, looking for the famous scar, only to see a normal forehead. Frowning, she sighed and watched as they headed into Gringots.
"I can't sneak inside to see who they are; the goblins have been cracking down hard on illusions and animagi lately. I'll just have to wait…"
Rita thought about the boy and the man with him and got an idea.
"I might not be able to follow them as I normally would… but who's to saw I don't have business of my own inside. I could take my time, wait a bit, and see just who those two are… and maybe get a photo or two for the paper as well."
Smiling, she sent off a note to her photographer, Bozo, to rush to Gringots and meet her inside… then headed after the father and son before she lost sight of them.
Gringots – Feldspar's Office
"… and so with Evan and Maria, Harry has two siblings now. Grandmother declared Maria to possibly be her heir for the Morrigan family and Alisa and I have discussed things and Evan is the Heir for the Gorbain line."
Feldspar nodded and looked at Harry.
"And how do you feel about that, Harry?"
Harry looked at the goblin they called friend.
"I'm happy for them both. They both have magic… grandmother tested them… but they're still little more than just barely babies right now. I'm glad they have their own rewards coming to them in the future. I have more than enough to worry about right now."
Feldspar nodded.
"You are quite correct. You are the heir to the Potter family as well as the Peverell line… and if Lord Black has his way, the heir to the Black family as well."
Alex sighed at that.
"His claim is legit then?"
Feldspar nodded.
"Oh yes… the bloodline proves it and both he and Sirius Black have proclaimed Harry the heir. There is nothing you can do to change things. It's been sealed by magic and blood."
Harry frowned hearing that.
"What if they changed their mind and instead gave it to the other boy… Draco something?"
Feldspar shook his head.
"Draco Black… and it's highly unlikely. Draco's father was Lucius Malfoy and he was a Death Eater… one of the followers of the man who murdered your birth parents. When he was later killed, all of his belongings were seized by Gringots before the Ministry could step in and claim them. We found many dark items… some of them beyond vile…"
Feldspar thought back to the worst thing they found and shivered.
"Among the items we uncovered that were dark… we found one that was pure evil; the darkest of magics there is. We found a phylactery of the Dark Lord Voldemort."
Harry looked interested.
"What's that?"
Feldspar looked at Harry and frowned.
"Voldemort ripped apart his soul and placed it inside an object as a means of trying to grant himself immortality."
Alex jerked in his seat.
"Can you repeat that? It's possible to rip a soul into multiple pieces?"
Feldspar nodded.
"It's the darkest of magics there is… but you said multiple when I only mentioned one."
Alex looked at Harry and sighed.
"I had some powerful magic users remove the same thing from Harry's scar when he was a baby…"
Harry looked up surprised and reached up to rub where his scar used to be.
"I had a part of his soul inside my head?"
Alex nodded as Feldspar looked grim.
"That's two fragments… which means there might be more."
He turned to his side and pulled out a small device. Speaking into it in the language of the goblins, he summoned a full search of the bank for anything matching the diary they had found and destroyed.
"I just instigated a full search of Gringots. We destroyed the item we found… a diary of a Tom Marvolo Riddle… and I do not want any more of those things hiding in my bank."
Alex nodded. He would need to mention this to Owen and see if they could do some searching as well.
"Two pieces so far plus the one inside him. How many do you think he might have made?"
Feldspar pondered it.
"Wizards are strange… believing in the power of mystical numbers. Three.. Seven… Nine… Thirteen. It's hard to say how many he might have…"
An alarm sounded at that moment and everything went crazy.
"What's happening?"
Feldspar looked at Harry as he looked around frightened.
"That is the lock-down alarm… they must have found one."
Jumping to his feet, he ran to the door.
"Stay here and don't leave my office. I will return shortly."
Alex and Harry nodded as Feldspar left.
Gringots – Main Entrance
As the wailing of alarms sounded all around her, Rita cringed in terror while goblins rushed about locking everything up and lowering thick metal walls over every door and window.
"Attention patrons… please remain calm… dark magic has been detected inside Gringots and therefore we are undergoing temporary lock-down. Remain where you are and you will not be harmed…"
Rita looked about wide-eyed as everyone seemed to panic and rush the doors… only to be stunned by human members of Gringots or attacked by the goblin guards. People screamed to be released and began to fight back… thinking they were being attacked.
"No… no calm down… you don't want to do this…"
As chaos erupted, a pink mist filled the room as one by one, every human there fell unconscious. The last thing she saw before darkness overcame her was goblins dragging the unconscious bodies off to the side of the room…
Gringots Warding Room
Feldspar rushed into the room as they brought in the item and frowned upon seeing it.
"Is it just the like diary from the Malfoy household?"
Cobalt, the head of the curse breaking department, nodded.
"Yes… it's another soul fragment. That's two now…"
Feldspar shook his head.
"Three… the fool made at least three. Before it was removed, Harry Potter had one inside his scar."
Cobalt hissed and spat at the ground.
"Curse you Tom Riddle for making these abominations and you as well Albus Dumbledore for creating him in the first place."
Shaking his head, he placed Helga Hufflepuff's cup on the warding platform and chanted the ritual to destroy the soul within it. A shriek of inhuman evil filled the room as both the cup and the soul were destroyed.
"Knowing what we know… there is no way he only did three. There are more of them out there."
Cobalt turned to Feldspar and sighed.
"You need to contact Ragnok and let him know. We need to perform a full search… before Voldemort figures out how to come back."
Feldspar nodded and shook his head.
"I'll do that… and I'll ask Lord Morrigan as well. He lives in a magical community outside the Wizarding World… one more powerful than we thought possible. We will need his help with this."
Cobalt nodded and spat on the remains of the cup.
"Someone get rid of that trash. I have a bank full of stupid wizards and witches to calm down..."
