Day 52
The mail is here and people actually replied to me! Jina only sent a short note attached to Morba's letter that is kind of difficult to read, but I'm honestly surprised by the amount of letters I have. I think I'll write most of them down just this once since my explanations wouldn't do them justice. I'm going to start with the most surprising reply first and not try to copy Jina's terrible writing skills.
"Borgin,
You honestly shocked me with your letter. I was under the impression that communication with a warlock, a human warlock no less, is frowned upon for Horde warriors. Still, I suppose I have to give you credit where it is due, you did listen to my discussions on the binding and control of demons after all. I am doing quite well here in Ratchet much like always and my students seem to be making progress. Thank you for the interest in my welfare here, silly orc. Feel free to write more often should you wish, intellectual conversation not involving a fellow warlock is honestly rather rare. Too many holier than thou fools who disregard the importance of studying your enemy I suppose.
Best regards, Menara"
Yeah, I wrote a human woman. So what? Neither of us wrote anything sensitive and if the Warchief can have human friends so can I. Right? Nyx is looking at me funny for some reason but I'm pretty sure I didn't say that out loud.
"I must say that I do not spend much time writing, so please forgive the rough strokes. Jina and I have been transfered back to the Crossroads now that the quilboar have been remove from the area. Mugga is here as well and we've had several skirmishes with the Kolkar alongside him. I don't have much more to write but we are all doing well. Maybe we can see each other soon, though tending the injured takes much of my time.
Morba"
"Borgin, ya don't know what ya did for me. Scar be takin' his time to grow but I know Kenny be lookin' down on us from his great hunt with a smile. Crazy raptors. Thanks mon, Jina."
Yeah I cleaned up the letter from Jina a bit. I'm glad she's doing a little better but the cheesiness of Scar's name is a bit strong. Heading up to the Crossroads to visit everyone does not sound like my ideal vacation day, hell walking into Theramore alone seems like more fun. I'm kidding, really, but I'd rather fly off to Orgrimmar or wander my way into Mulgore instead.
"Brother Borgin,
I am glad to hear that you are well and have a partner strong enough to watch your back. I'm back at the Crossroads now, though you will be proud to know that Gurnag is still improving his wall. Or would it be your wall? I don't know where Bullhorn wandered off to but he taught me quite a bit about the elements and with Morba I seek to expand my understanding of their whispers. My eye patch has stopped bothering me finally, though sweat irritates me. A lot of troops have been shuffling around lately, maybe we'll end up reassigned together?
Your friend and battle brother, Mugga."
Mugga has a surprisingly elegant way of writing. I actually read that letter several times in disbelief but considering the examples I've seen and the pressure applied to the parchment it was definitely an orc that wrote it. Sweat under an eye patch must really suck though.
"Borgin,
I am proud to write that my efforts in growing a forest are going well. High Chieftain Cairne and Archdruid Hamuul gave me permission to test my spells North of Bloodhoof Village despite the objections of several more traditionalist voices. As if traditions matter in Mulgore when we have only claimed this land with the aid of the Horde. Some foolish goblins attempted to sabotage my efforts however, so I had to show them the fury of nature. I doubt they will return. Laryne is currently near Stonetalon Peak attempting his own experiment there though we do visit each site to exchange knowledge of our progress. Tentative plans are being made to restore the Barrens once we are more experienced with the magic involved. Thank you once again for the interesting idea.
Greentitan, Cenarion Druid"
Greentitan certainly gave me a lot of interesting information. I'd be willing to bet it was Magatha Grimtotem and her minions that tried throwing a fit. Honestly I'd be hard pressed not to axe her a question in a dark alley. I'm going to have to trust someone with the information I know eventually, aren't I? It would be a shame to permanently die and waste my knowledge.
"Borgin,
Greetings from Netherstorm! We can't write much because of how busy we are, so we decided to share a message. The campaign in Outland is going well so far and we've made quite a lot of money fighting out here. Are you sure you don't want to retire from the military and adventure with us? We know an amazing priest named Rustybucket (He doesn't remember his living name unfortunately) so you'll be perfectly safe. Though all the Fel magic in Outland is a bit of a bother.
Dashade and Zylam"
Thanks guys, just the image of a Fel Reaver in my head inspires soul crushing terror. And then things here on Azeroth will get nasty in a few months. I definitely can't go around announcing the invasion at the Sunwell or the Scourge without being locked up as a crazy man. Or some kind of deranged cultist. Damn.
The others I wrote haven't replied yet, like Bullhorn and Sorek, but the overall response was more than I expected. It honestly touched me to have people write down their thoughts for me instead of sending a text or typing something out like my previous life. I guess that would be why people hold on to letters for so long. Today was simply guard duty and training so I'm mentally and physically worn out right now. I guess this is where I call it a night Journal.
-Borgin
Canon Omake (? POV)
The spirits whisper of one touched by the Beyond but among the living, one with the potential to change things for better or worse. They caution for patience and hope while I sit here listening. The struggle for my people to survive will never end but maybe this person could make it easier on us? The encouraging whispers seem to agree and I only hope I live long enough to experience it.
Several children draw my attention away from the spirits and I smile as they play in the distance. Yes, I will survive long enough to meet the one the spirits speak of even if only to request support. A warrior from Beyond would prove to be a blessing to our situation even if things have improved over the years. A cold wind blows and my smile fades slightly. Hopefully it won't take too long.
AN: Bill75673302 I was already planning the letters before your review but hopefully this teaser about Borgin's future destination is what you wanted. Otherwise I'm sorry but the nature of a journal is pretty personal. Maybe if Borgin ever gets knocked out for a while. If anyone manages to guess the POV you deserve congratulations.
