A/N For those of you that don't know, I started another story on this website and will be alternating between updating that one and this one. Basically, I will be writing just as much, but updates for this story will be slower.

Harry woke up on the Monday after the break. He was excited because his first class of the day was Double Transfiguration and wanted to get the spell list for McGonagall for the second-year exams.

Heading down to breakfast after his morning routine he sat down next to Daphne. She nodded to Harry put continued eating her sausage without saying anything. Harry, Tracey, and Daphne had already caught up the previous dinner and so Daphne saw no important reason to socialize. Tracey entered the Great Hall and sat down on the other side of Daphne. "Urg. Classes again," she moaned as she loaded her plate up.

"Getting out of bed so early wasn't fun," Harry agreed.

"I don't even know why you bothered to get up to go to class. It's not like you need to go to Transfiguration."

Daphne scowled in annoyance as Harry chuckled. He hadn't told them about him taking the second-year exams for Transfiguration. It seemed like a thing to say face-to-face and there hadn't been an opportunity yet.

Harry was one of the first people to class that morning. He headed up to McGonagall's desk after setting his stuff down at a desk near the back of the room.

"Mr. Potter, excellent," she said when she saw him. "Here is the list of spells for the exam. You will need to know the theory and be able to perform them practically by the end of this term."

Harry looked at the piece of parchment she had handed him. It was a list of about fifteen second-year spells. He could already do seven of them. "Thank you Professor. Out of curiosity, what are the rules for practicing these in class?"

"Not while I am discussing theory, but you may try them in the back of the classroom while your classmates are doing the practical work. However, not if you are partnered up and do not come to me asking for materials to practice on." She looked at him sternly. "Understood?"

Harry nodded and went back to grab his stuff. He got a few odd looks for students but ignored them. Grabbing his things he moved them to a seat in the very back and sat down. After everybody had sat down and class started, McGonagall passed out chunks of rock. She then told everyone to turn then into a pigeon. Harry had some fun turning it into different types of birds for awhile before looking down at his list.

One caught his eye. The incantation was vera verto and it turned a bird into a water goblet. Perfect for this class.

Changing the chunk of rock back into a crow he tried the spell. It did form a water goblet, but there were still wings. Harry frowned and caught the goblet as it tried to fly away. Not ideal.

By his fourth try though he could get a crow to transfigure into a simple water goblet. Then it was just a matter of being able to add detail to the goblet. For Harry, that was a piece of cake.

A few people who spotted Harry gave him some odd looks, but McGonagall didn't say anything so neither did they. However, a few did after class.

"What was that spell you were practicing during class?" Hermione asked in the hallway. "It wasn't what we were supposed to be practicing."

"I noticed that as well," Daphne added.

Harry sighed. He really didn't feel like being interrogated at the moment. "Vera verto. Changes birds into water goblets. I was bored and decided to try it out."

"But that's a late second-year spell!" Hermione noticed.

"And?" Harry prompted.

Hermione just shook her head, muttering under her breath.

"That is impressive Harry," Calypso complimented him.

"Thanks sis."

The official end of the first term ended without any more fanfare. Harry thought it was odd that they took the end-of-term exams a few school weeks before the actual end of the term but figured it was just because they didn't want it right after the two-week winter break.

The months passed by quietly. Harry studied, practiced feeling magic, and did his schoolwork. Two months after McGonagall handed him the list of second-year spells, he had mastered them all.

There were a few minor hiccups though. Harry had to serve his first detention when he accidentally fell asleep in Transfiguration one day in late February. He had spent much of the previous night meditating (he started calling his "feeling for magic" practice that) and forgot to get to sleep until nearly two in the morning. During McGonagall's lecture the next day Harry found himself bored as usual and nodded off before he realized it. Honestly Harry didn't even see the need for a detention, it's not like he missed anything he needed to learn. But he found himself scrubbing all the trophies from past students for four hours that evening anyways.

His other classes were going fairly nicely as well. In Charms one day Harry decided to play an impromptu prank on Flitwick. He managed was sitting on the far right side of the classroom, next to Calypso. While they were practicing Engorgement Charms on mice somebody messed up. The mouse grew to the size of a pony and rampaged through half the class before Flitwick managed to take care of the situation. In all of the chaos, Harry managed to hit Flitwick with a Hair-Growing Charm. Before anyone realized it, Flitwick had a mullet. It was quite hilarious.

For a minute nobody said anything, just snickering behind their hands. After Flitwick finally asked everybody what was so funny Hermione raised her hand and informed him of his new hairdo. After conjuring a mirror and getting a good laugh himself Flitwick returned his hair to its normal length.

He then asked who did it so he could give their House five points for correctly performing a Hair-Growing Charm, but Harry didn't say anything as he would probably get the points and then a detention. Five points wasn't worth the risk. He did later confirm to his friends it was him though.

However, a other classes did give Harry a few problems. Astronomy continued to vex him. Harry simply didn't enjoy being hunched over looking through a telescope for up to an hour on end. And finding a specific star or planet was very tedious work. One had to be very subtle with a telescope, and even if he did find his target an accidental brush against the telescope could move it a fraction of an inch and he'd have to start all over again.

Herbology was likewise annoying for Harry. He decided pretty early on he wasn't going to go into gardening for a profession or hobby, at least not with magical plants. The first years had their first encounter with the most dangerous plant of the first year; the devil's snare. Each was given a small potted one and told to prune it. Harry had the unusual (for him) experience of being one of the worst in his class that day. He eventually just got pissed at the little devil and used a cutting curse to "prune" the plant almost down to the dirt. Sprout docked him five points and gave him extra homework for the day. Daphne didn't let him forgot that for a week. She was always trying to be better at something than him (though thankfully she was much less vocal about it than Hermione) and would take a win in any subject.

Harry got back at her the next time she asked for help in Transfiguration. He just laughed and said no before walking away, leaving Daphne and Tracey alone in the library. He didn't see it, but knew that Daphne had a very foul look on her face.

The next big excitement for the year came soon after that. Via various methods including accidentally on purpose eavesdropping on teachers, bad luck with moving staircases, and getting Hagrid to run his mouth, Ron, Neville, and Hermione discovered a secret in the castle. They of course told Calypso, who then of course told Harry, who then told Tracey, who told Daphne until all seven first-years knew.

The forbidden third-floor corridor was forbidden because a giant cerberus was locked up in one of the rooms there. Hermione said that Neville and Ron were to scared to look at anything other than the heads, but she saw it was guarding a trapdoor that was locked with some sort of runes.

Since they knew Hagrid was terrible at keeping his mouth shut, they easily got him to talk and while he stopped pretty quickly he let the name Nicholas Flamel come out. Calypso asked Harry if he knew who that was but Harry's history wasn't the best and he didn't. Neither did Tracey or Daphne. However, that didn't mean Hermione and Calypso along with Harry and sometimes even Daphne didn't start scouring the library.

Ron had a theory that Snape was trying to

Hogwarts April 12th

Calypso came up to Harry while he was studying in the library. "We have a situation Harry."

Harry looked up from his Charms textbook. "Who is we and what's the situation?"

"We is Hagrid, Ron, Neville, Hermione, and I. The situation is that Hagrid has a baby dragon we need to smuggle out of the castle."

Harry stared for a few seconds. "I'm sorry can you repeat that? Cause I think I heard the words 'Hagrid has a baby dragon,' but that can't be right." Or at least he was really hoping it wasn't.

Calypso shook her head. "No, it's right. Hagrid won an egg down in Hogsmeade and it hatched a few days ago. Norwegian Ridgeback. Charlie is having a few of his dragon-taming friends fly to the Astronomy Tower tomorrow at 2:00 am, after all the classes are done."

Harry shook his head. "Dad's cloak would come in handy here."

"Or the map," Calypso said wistfully. "Anyways, I didn't think there was anything you could do. Just thought I would check."

"Ummm, I'll keep my ears to the ground and see if I hear anything. Who else knows besides you five and me?"

"Nobody. Don't want teachers catching wind of this."

Harry nodded. "Good luck. You get caught and I have no clue you were going to do this, understand?"

Calypso nodded. "No problem, nothing you can do anyways. See you around."

Harry expected to either hear nothing or find out that Calypso and all their Gryffindor friends got detention a few days later, but to his surprise that wasn't the case. Malfoy came bursting into the Common Room the next evening demanding were Snape was because Calypso Potter was trying to sneak a dragon out of school.

Draco hated the Potter twins and all their friends. However, both Harry and Calypso were more competent than Malfoy was and so he was put in the "very irritating" category instead of "actual problem." He had probably followed Calypso and her friends to Hagrid's hut and spied on them. Unfortunately, this meant he was an actual problem for once. Harry had to act fast. He discretely moved behind Malfoy and fired a Shrinking Charm at his underwear. People saw the spell being cast and started pointing fingers. However, Harry had fired from a cluster of people and so when he started pointing just like everyone else, nobody had any real idea it was him.

Malfoy started doing a very entertaining little dance in the middle of the Common Room. In embarrassment, he ran upstairs to his dorm to quickly put on a new pair. In his haste and embarrassment however, Malfoy didn't think that plan through. Instead of letting an older student take care of the situation in a few seconds, he spent at least ten minutes in his dorm probably trying to rip off his now very snug piece of clothing.

After he got a new pair of underwear on, Malfoy raced down the stairs with half the Common Room snickering at him. Harry tried to think of a way to delay him again but couldn't. With any luck, ten minutes was enough.

The next morning, it turns out it was enough. Slytherin had lost fifty points making Malfoy very unpopular and he also had to serve a detention with Hagrid in the Forbidden Forest. Calypso told Harry afterwards that they had seen Malfoy and had been prepared to avoid people. However, without the ten-minute head start they would have all been caught. She gave Harry a very big thank you for that.

What happened during Malfoy's detention (at least according to him) made Harry almost wish he hadn't helped his sister and friends and they had all been there with him. According to Malfoy, him and Hagrid were looking for something that was killing unicorns and had run into a cloaked figure drinking unicorn blood. Malfoy didn't see much as he ran away as soon as he saw the figure. Usually Harry wouldn't believe a story like that, but there was no reason for Malfoy to make up such an outlandish tale.

Still, everything kept moving as it should. Harry visited Hagrid; who was still sad about losing his new pet, a few days later. Honestly Harry was a little mad he hadn't thought of visiting the day before the dragon was taken away. Seeing a baby dragon would be something that very few get to do and live. Normal full-grown dragons are nasty, and mothers are even worse.

Calypso, and Ron overhead Snape seemingly threatening Quirrell one day, which was very concerning. However, Calypso and Hermione still thought Snape wasn't the bad guy here. Hermione because of her loyalty to all the teachers as both authority figures and academic minds and Calypso because it just didn't add up to her.

Harry trusted the words of Calypso and Hermione over Ron so he decided to continue giving Snape the benefit of the doubt as they kept scouring the library in search of the name Nicholas Flamel. However, frustratingly nothing came up. And they had no way of sneaking into the Restricted Section of the library so they had no idea if his name was there.

Harry and his friends debated asking a teacher, but that might get Hagrid in trouble if they asked for an explanation as to way, or get Ron, Neville, and Hermione in trouble for accidently going in an out-of-bounds zone. In the end they decided not to risk it.

So, despite the odd period of excitement, the second term of school passed much like the first one. Soon it was time for the end-of-term exams and stress levels began to rise for all seven years of Hogwarts students.

Harry on the other hand just had high levels of anticipation as he worked even harder in the last two weeks until exams. He had come to school to make a name of his own for once.

And he was going to do it.

A/N So really short chapter guys. The problem is that nothing super interesting starts happening beyond stuff that is mostly canon and just modified by me until like year three so this is kind of all filler. And I don't want to write like 60,000 words of Harry and his friends just going to school and having one big event at the end of the year. If you want that just read books 1-3, JKR does a much better job of that then I could.

So anyways new chapter for this story will probably be out in around a week, see you here then.
