Chapter 23: Doctor's Visit and Party Incidents
"Hey, Amity." Luz did a finger gun gesture as she stood in the living room "You know now that we've passed exams and gone through a lot together… maybe, if you don't have anything else to do… would you… like to go out with me… on a date?"
In front of her was Hooty, who was wearing a green wig. "Hoot-hoot, hard pass!" He received a hit from Brucy. "Ow!"
"That's no way to reject the boss!" Brucy declared as he jumped up and down.
"Luz, get your bat away from me!" Hooty shouted while Brucy kept whacking him.
"Okay, okay, enough Brucy!" Luz pulled Brucy away from Hooty. "As for you, Hooty, you're no help at all."
"I'm just saying as it is, girlfriend!" Hooty told her.
"…Please don't do that again or I'll commit arson," Luz threatened with a monotone voice.
"Geez, so over-dramatic," Hooty said while stretching his snake-like neck back to the door.
Luz stuck her tongue out at Hooty while noticing something on her left arm. Her eyes widened when she saw a black scale. At that moment, the portal to the human world appeared in the living room and Eda walked out of the door with a bag of human junk. Luz quickly hid her scale and ran off to her room.
"I'm back!" Eda announced before hearing a door upstairs slam shut. "Hmm?"
"Oh nononononononono," Luz whispered while covering her arm. She locked the door behind her, made sure the window was closed, and checked to see if King was sleeping in her room again. No sign of him, so she went into her closet to look through her clothes.
"Come on, gotta find something." She growled. "Why did I make cut-offs!?" She then found some long sleeve fitness shirts, "Bingo."
She grabbed some scissors and cut the long sleeves off of the shirts. She slid one onto her left arm to cover her scale. As she sighed in relief, she heard knocking on her door.
"Luz? Are you alright?" Eda asked. "Why did you shut your door so loudly?"
"It's nothing, mom!" Luz lied.
"Are you sure? You're not having one of those… um…" Before Eda could finish, Luz came out of the bedroom and rushed past her. "Where are you going?"
"I'm going out for a jog!" Luz said as she hurried toward the front door.
"Do you need some water? There's a bottle in the fridge-"
"I'm fine, just going to jog around town, probably head to the bodega, later!" Luz shouted, leaving before Eda could say anything else and leaving her very confused.
"…What was that all about?" Eda asked as King walked up with a juice box.
"Oh, I think she's going to try to ask Amity out," King said.
"She is?" Eda asked, smirking in amusement. "Well well well, this should be interesting…"
At Blight Manor, Amity was looking over the potential schedules for next semester at Hexside when she heard her crow cawing. She picked the crow up and answered it. "Yeah?"
"Hey girl, this is Cat!" spoke Cat on the other line, though sounds a little tipsy.
"Cat? You're back already?" Amity asked in surprise.
"Yeah, remedial classes were tough but time works differently in the shadow realm than it does in the Boiling Isles. I wasn't gone that long in Boiling Isles time, but in shadow realm time…" Cat paused briefly before continuing, the memories of her time in the shadow realm still fresh. "Anyway, just want to see if you're free for the night. It's a bit last minute, but my older brother Dog said that it's okay to invite my friends to his party at our house. It's going to have not just other Hexsidians, but students from his school at Merlin Meadows and some from St. Epiderm and Glandus. This party's going to be off the chain!"
"Who else are you inviting?" Amity asked.
"Amelia and Skara," Cat answered. "I asked Boscha but she turned me down. She seemed a little off. Did something happen?"
Amity hesitated. "Boscha's… not talking to me, or Skara right now."
"Oh, that's… wow," Cat replied, sounding shocked. "I mean, I knew she can be a bitch but whatever happened between you guys and her must have been really bad."
"I'm better off without her anyway," Amity responded. "But I don't know if I should go. I got some schedules to pick out and-"
"Amity, don't worry about the schedules for classes right now," Cat told her. "What you need is a little fun. Just come on over, enjoy the party, try not to think about the horrors of the shadow realm…" She paused again. "Forget that part."
Amity considered it, maybe she could use a break. Especially after everything that had happened over just a period of time. It couldn't hurt, right?
"I'll check it out, but I probably won't be able to stay there long," Amity told Cat.
"Great! It starts at around six o'clock, but you can show up whenever it's convenient for you," Cat said before hanging up.
Amity nodded, but then realized something else. "Wait… her brother's name is Dog?"
Latissa, located in the bone marrow of the Boiling Isles, was close to Bonesborough. The forest and town area was filled with yellow large pimples that glowed and lit up the community at night. Latissa was known for its high crime rates thanks to the street gangs, thugs, and criminal organizations that called it home. The Emperor Coven's forces could often be seen patrolling the dangerous streets and Latissa was also known for being the home of Glandus High.
"I don't know, Luz," Viney said as she and Luz rode on the back of Puddles. "A town like Latissa isn't all sunshine and rainbows. You sure we should be out here alone? Like, without an adult?"
"Don't worry about it, Viney. We can defend ourselves in a place like this. As long as we don't draw any unnecessary attention to ourselves and we keep a low profile, we should be good," Luz said as Puddles landed on a rooftop. "But just in case we do encounter some creeps, you might want this." She handed a sock filled with rocks to Viney.
"…Well that's something," Viney replied. Leaving Puddles to wait to be called, Viney followed Luz off the rooftop. "So… who are we visiting?"
"Well, let's just say we're gonna meet this family physician, well, my physician, that mom's been taking me to since I was little," Luz explains while the two made it out of an alleyway and walked into the street. They passed by some Latissa denizens, some giant bugs, some rat creatures, and some gang members fighting each other.
Viney looked around with a gulp. "What kind of physician lives in a place like this?"
"Well, she's not really from around here originally," Luz explained as they avoided some coven scouts. "She's actually from the human world."
Viney looked at Luz in shock. "Are you saying… another human lives here?!"
"Not quite," Luz replied. "She's not exactly human, but my mom met her a long time ago. She was on the run from the mob in the human world, so my mom helped her escape to the Boiling Isles where she could blend right in. Then when I got sick as a kid, my mom took me to her since she knows more about the human body than anyone else in the Boiling Isles."
Unknown to the two, they were being followed. Their stalker was a witchling with blonde hair, red eyes, a chip on his left ear, a scar on the right side of his cheek, and scars on his upper left arm. He was keeping a close eye on them.
"Alright, just do as I say when we enter," Luz told Viney in a whisper as they headed down another alleyway and stopped in front of a door. Luz knocked on it three times and a slot in the door opened revealing a pair of eyes.
"We told you that we don't want your witch scouts cookies!" said the person behind the door, before Luz pointed to her round ears. "Oh, it's you. You weren't supposed to be back for your scheduled check-up in another-"
"Yes, yes, but this is an emergency visit," Luz told her. "Is Dr. Bride here, Iggy?"
"Yes, but she is very busy," Iggy said as she looked at Viney. "Who is she?"
"Just a friend who gave me a ride here," Luz replied.
A voice screamed from inside the building. "IGGY! WHO IS AT THE DOOR!?"
Iggy sighed. "It's the Clawthorne girl, doc. Should I let her in? Her mom's not with her."
"Is she alone?" the voice asked.
"She's with a friend," Iggy answered.
The voice paused. "…Eh, let them in."
The door opened and Viney was shocked to see a pale-blue witch with stitches across her eyes and wearing a metal helmet with mechanical prosthetic muscular-looking arms standing over them. Iggy wore a nurse outfit with baggy black pants and had monkey hands for her feet. She looked at Viney. "What? Never seen an armless witch with metal hair arms?"
"I'm just… surprised," Viney replied, taken aback.
As Luz and Viney were led inside, they were greeted by a work environment that could best be described as a mad scientist's lab. The room was filled with electricity-powered machinery and there were many various body parts being kept in bins. The shelves were full of books and jars filled with unusual contents, whether it be eyeballs or organs.
Sparks flashed as Luz and Viney stopped in front of someone hunched over as they were working on something. "Hey, Dr. Bride. It's me, Luz Clawthorne."
The doctor rose up, turning around to show her black lens goggles and her black hair with white streaks that stood straight up. She had pale skin and stitches across her body where parts had been sewn together. "Little Fraulein Luz?" The woman spoke with a thick German accent and she was wearing a long white lab coat with her blue blouse, black gloves, long khaki pants and boots. "How long has it been? Ages since your last appointment, I believe. Is this your scheduled check-up?"
"No, no, it's not and-"
"Ah, and who might you be with my recurring patient?" Dr. Bride asked, looking at Viney.
"Um, my name is Viney Potts, and I'm part of the Healing and Beast Keeping-"
"Greetings! I am Dr. Elizabeth Wollstonecraft Bride!" the woman in the lab coat said while shaking Viney's hand. "Are you interested in any body modifications?"
"I'm fine…" Viney told her. "I'm just here for Luz. I heard you know a lot about the human body."
"I should! After all, I am made of several!" Dr. Bride gestured at her stitches before turning to Luz. "So what can I do for you?"
"I need you to look at something in me," Luz told the eccentric doctor. "Recently when I was taking my exams, I changed. I briefly transformed into something else and now there is this." Luz rolled up her sleeve, showing Dr. Bride her left arm.
"Scales" Dr. Bride noticed. "How unusual."
"Wait, there is more than one?" Luz asked, looking at her arm and seeing that there were three scales now. "No, no, no, this can't be happening!"
"Luz, calm down," Viney said as Luz started to panic. "You're going to be okay."
"Okay?! How is this okay?!" Luz's eyes flashed blue, but then a heavy blanket was placed over her by Iggy. "Hey! What gives!?" Luz shouted. "What is this!?"
"It's a weighted blanket," Iggy explained. "It helps with anxiety."
"Yes, it is beneficial that your anxiety remains low!" Dr. Bride told Luz. "Tell me, do your eyes always change from brown to blue?"
"It… does that?" Luz asked.
"Yeah, I saw them too," Viney replied. "Almost reptilian at some angle."
Once Luz had calmed down, Viney and Iggy took the weighted blanket off of her. "Put this on," Dr. Bride ordered as she handed Luz a hospital gown. "I shall set up the tests!"
Since its students were on break, Hexside was mostly empty. But Principal Bump remained and Lilith had showed up in his office for a chat about a particular student of his.
"Has Luz ever shown signs of any… abstract behavior?" Lilith asked. "Something like what happened during the exams?"
"Well, her first year semester made Eda's Hexside years look like a merry-go-round the blood berry bush, but I have never seen her do something like that before," Bump admitted. "Maybe if I went to the Healing Coven about it, they could-"
"No," Lilith interjected. "I need you to keep this a secret. The less everyone knows the better. So far, your students seem to think her transformation is some human thing, but I highly doubt that is the case. For Luz's safety, the less they know the better."
"Very well," Bump nodded as Lilith stood up. "Anything else?"
As Lilith went to the door, she turned to Bump. "Keep me informed about Luz and her developments. And if something bad happens to my niece under your watch… I can promise you a worse fate than even Emperor Belos would have intended. Walk very carefully, Bump. Or else…" She shot him a glare before leaving the office.
As Lilith walked down through the halls of Hexside, she started to remember a time when it was filled with students… and she was one of them.
Back then Lilith had poofy red hair, wore glasses, and her school uniform showed that she was in the Potions Track. Standing next to her by the locker was a much younger Odalia Blight, who resembled Amity without the brown roots in her hair. According to her uniform, she was in the Oracle Track.
"So I got the test back and it's another A," Odalia told Lilith. "Not like I'm surprised or anything, but I think it is still worth celebrating especially since you got your test back as well. Maybe after school you and I can-"
"Lilith," interrupted a new voice. Lilith adjusted her glasses and turned around to see a hooded girl with three eyes who Odalia was now glaring at.
"What is it, Nicole?" Lilith asked her track mate.
"It's your sister," Nicole responded. "I saw her being sent to Bump's office… again. I still can't believe that a student as brilliant as you is related to a thug like-"
"Don't talk about Eda like that," Lilith warned, narrowing her eyes at Nicole.
"Why not?" Nicole asked. "Everybody knows that it's true. Even Odalia here believes that your sister doesn't belong here, isn't that right?"
Both Nicole and Lilith turned toward Odalia, who hesitated before answering. "I mean, you know what she's like," Odalia admitted to Lilith. "I don't mean any offense, but Eda has never been like the rest of us…"
Lilith sighed. "Edalyn can't help the way that she is." She glared at Nicole. "Just like how some other witches I know can't help but be completely unpleasant individuals who I'm sure have other places to be."
Nicole scoffed. "Whatever. See you around, Clawthorne." She smiled smugly at Odalia. "And you too, Grunhar. When you see your brother, tell him that I said hi."
As Nicole walked away, Lilith noticed that Odalia's fists tightened before she took a deep breath to calm herself down. "I'm sure that you have to go by Bump's office to bail your sister out again," she told Lilith.
"Yeah," Lilith admitted. "I wonder what she's done this time…"
"You know that she is just going to hold you back, right?" Odalia asked Lilith. "You can't keep trying to get her out of trouble for the rest of your life. It's not like you need her."
"Of course I need her," Lilith argued. "She's my sister."
"And I'm your girlfriend," Odalia reminded. "Which is why I'm telling you this. One of these days you're going to have to let Eda go, move on with your own life, and leave your sister with hers. I'll see you around if you still want to hang out after school."
And Odalia walked away, leaving Lilith alone by her locker…
Just like Lilith was now as she stood in front of her old locker, sighing as she remembered all the mischief that Eda had caused when they both attended Hexside… and how messy her own hair had once been. Then Lilith moved on, having reminisced in these hallways long enough. As far as she was concerned, Hexside was her past. Right now, only the future mattered…
Meanwhile, Dr. Bride was running Luz through some tests. This included checking her eyesight, her mouth, her heart beat, and her joints before taking some X-Rays and taking a sample of Luz's blood.
"So, how is your mother? Is she doing alright?" Dr. Bride asked while looking at the blood sample through a microscope.
"She's doing great," Luz told her usual doctor. "In fact, I recently met her sister, the head of the Emperor's Coven."
"Ah, so you've learned that Lilith is your auntie, interesting," Dr. Bride replied nodded, still looking at Luz's blood sample.
"I also got myself into the Bard Track," Luz explained. "It's thanks to a special friend of mine that tutored me and made sure that I could pass the exams."
"Special friend?" Dr. Bride asked as she put the blood sample into a freezer to keep it cool.
"She means crush," Viney elaborated, causing Luz to shoot her a look. "And she is falling for Amity hard."
"Amity, huh?" Dr. Bride said and she noticed when Luz blushed. "It's very nice that you like this girl. Does she like you back?"
Luz avoided answering the question. "So how soon can I expect the results of these tests?"
Dr. Bride considered it. "Hmm, at the very longest… I would say three weeks if not less."
"THREE WEEKS!?" Luz shouted. "But I want to know what's happening to me now!?"
"Look, you interrupted my very busy schedule. I cannot promise when I have your results, I can only promise that you will have your results."
"But I can't wait that long!" Luz exclaimed, her frustrations causing her eyes to glow blue and her fangs to show.
"Calm yourself, take deep breaths," Dr. Bride advised.
Luz took some deep breaths, noticing that her arm had grown more scales but they started to disappear until only one remained. She sighed. "I need to know what's happening to me and I… I can't tell my mom about this."
"Why not?" Dr. Bride asked her.
"I… I think I may be cursed," Luz admitted. "My mom was around my age when she was cursed and I am worried that she may have somehow infected me…" Tears began to leak from her eyes. "Dear Titan, I can't… I don't know what I'm becoming."
Dr. Bride nodded. "Well, as far as I am aware you can't get infected by curses unless scratched or bitten by were-creatures." This didn't make Luz feel better, but Dr. Bride still tried to assure her "Look, you're young and scared. I get it. Do you remember what exactly happened when you changed?"
Luz looked unsure. "I was… trapped in my own mindscape when it happened."
"According to the other students, your limbs extended, you grew fangs, your feet bent backwards, your eyes turned black with blue irises, even your hair changed… they say you threw Boscha around like a ragdoll before you changed back and passed out," Viney explained.
Dr. Bride processed this information. "Well, once I figure out what is the cause of your changes, I will let you know. As soon as I can. Will that work?"
Luz nodded. "Y-Yeah, I think so. Thanks, Dr. B."
"No problem, Luz," Dr. Bride said. "Now go to the changing room and change outfits. I do hope that you still talk to your mother about this though."
While Luz went to the changing room, Viney decided to talk to Dr. Bride.
"So, you're really a doctor?" Viney asked.
"Yes," Dr. Bride confirmed. "I can assure you that I am nothing if not a professional."
"But… you're not in a coven…" Viney pointed out.
"So what? I am not originally from the Boiling Isles, but I am still a doctor nonetheless," Dr. Bride replied. "I doubt that the Emperor's Coven even knows that I exist, which is how I like it. I came to the Boiling Isles to get away from the mob and away from my ex. I prefer it here, especially since it presents me with so many unique opportunities that I wouldn't have in the human world."
Viney looked around the lab, noticing some books on the shelves. "Dr. Bride, can I ask you one more thing?"
"Go on, Fraulein."
"I aspire to be a veterinarian for all the creatures and beasts, but I also want to help my friends," Viney told her. "So I need an idea and some familiarity about Luz. They already taught us about witch bodies in health class, but not human bodies. So if you really know more about the human body than anyone else in the Boiling Isles, then maybe you can help me so that I can be there for Luz while she is going through all of this."
Dr. Bride looked at Viney and took off her goggles, revealing her red eyes. "Well, if you wish to learn more about the human body," she said, grabbing a book from the shelf and handing it to Viney. "This should get you started."
"Thanks," Viney smiled, looking at the book titled 'The Human Body for Dumb-Butts.' She placed it in her book bag.
Luz came back in, wearing her normal clothes instead of the hospital gown. "Okay, I'm ready to go."
"I'll be sure to message you about what I find out from these tests," Dr. Bride said while holding out a bowl of candy. "Candy?"
"Thanks, Dr. Bride," Luz said while taking one for herself. "Come on, Viney. Let's get going." She and Viney headed toward the door, passing Iggy as they left.
"You know, I shouldn't be surprised that you see shady doctors," Viney commented as she came out of the clinic with Luz.
"That's the Clawthorne experience for ya," Luz replied as they headed out of the alley. As they walked, Luz suddenly froze. "Wait… we're being followed."
Viney looked alarmed while Luz brought out Viney. "HYAH!" She swung her bat at the one following them, knocking the guy to the floor. Luz held up her bat as she stood over the guy, only to stop herself when she recognized him. "What the… Hunter!?"
"Augh, was that really necessary?" asked the older teenage boy with the red eyes and the scars. He wore a beige bucket hat, a brown button shirt, long gloves that covered his wrists, purple baggy pants and boots. He smiled up at Luz, showing a gap in his teeth. "I thought I saw you walking around earlier, what are you doing here?" A skateboard that he had been carrying laid on the ground next to him.
"Oh you know, running an errand," Luz replied, helping him up. "Sorry about that."
"Nah, it's my bad. I should have known better than to try to sneak up on a Clawthorne," Hunter admitted.
"You know this guy?" Viney asked Luz.
"Yeah, this is Hunter." Luz answered. "He doesn't live in Bonesborough, but he does occasionally pass through and purchase items from the human world at my mom's stand in the marketplace. He's a friend." She turned to Hunter. "I haven't seen you in a while, how's that uncle of yours?"
"Uncle Bob?" Hunter responded. "His health is getting worse, unfortunately. But I see you've made some new friends since I last saw you."
"Yes, this is Viney, we go to Hexside together," Luz replied while patting Viney on the back. "Hey, Vines, you can go ahead and head home. I want to catch up with Hunter right now, I can find my way home later."
"Alright, are you sure?" Viney asked in concern.
"Don't worry, I know how to take care of myself around here," Luz reassured her. "Thanks for flying me here."
Viney nodded and started to walk away. "Just be careful and call me when you get back."
"Laters!" Luz waved at Viney, while Hunter winced.
"My nose still hurts from that bat," Hunter said, while noticing Luz's bat being more lively.
"He's not just any bat now, this is Brucy," Luz introduced.
"Are we gonna smash some more faces, boss?!" Brucy asked,
"I brought him to life," Luz explained.
"I see," Hunter said as he stepped on his skateboard.
"So you live around here in Latissa?" Luz asked as she walked with Hunter riding beside her.
"Nah, like you I was just running an errand," he replied. "For my uncle. He keeps me busy."
"And I see you still have the skateboard you got from us."
"Yeah. Thanks again for it, by the way."
"Anything for a recurring customer," Luz said with a smirk.
The two made it out of Latissa, going over the bridge that was on the route to Bonesborough. Fortunately, the troll underneath the bridge was asleep so they wouldn't have to pay his toll.
"So Hexside," Hunter mentioned. "Never figured you'd be into school."
"Yeah, and I left a very big first impression," Luz replied. "I released the choosy hat on a teacher and put her in retirement, sucker punched a bitch, made a pyramid scheme here and there…"
"Sounds nice," Hunter commented.
"I hated it there, well at first," Luz said. "But now… I actually like it. What about you? What have you been up to?"
"You know, stuff," Hunter replied. "When I'm not helping my uncle, I have been learning about human culture from the comic books and manga you gave me, as well as the martial arts books and tapes."
Luz nodded, remembering how she and Hunter had first met…
It had been a month since she befriended Gus and Willow.
"If you wish to torture your enemies, have them listen to this." Luz gave a bird man a CD that was titled '2002 Pop Song Hits.' "Make sure you play track five in a loop, it will drive them crazy."
"How crazy are we talking about?" the bird man asked her.
"Imagine a much cringier version of sixties music but try to modernize it," Luz told him.
"Hmm, that sounds drastic… I'll take it!" The bird man took out his snails and handed them to Luz. Eda stood behind as she patted her daughter's head.
"Way to go," Eda told her proudly. "You're definitely earning your share today."
"Thanks, mom," the ten year old Luz replied with a smile before she noticed someone else coming up to the stand.
It was a younger Hunter, about twelve years old, wearing a black cloak with gray tights and black boots. He appeared to have less scars and his ear hadn't been chipped. He was eating a bag of Cheet-Ahs as he noticed the stand. "What is this junk?" he asked dryly.
"Treasures from the human realm, of course!" Eda told him. "Interested in weapons? Here, use it to whack your enemies!" Eda held up a frying pan.
"Come on, mom. You need to appeal to his demographic," Luz pointed out, holding up a bag of silly bands. "Like this bag of bands! They're very popular among the human kids."
"… They look like junk," Hunter said.
"Then how about these monster trading cards? They're quite the collectibles!" Luz held up some monster trading cards. "Or this squirt gun!" She placed a broken squirt gun on the table. "Or this hand slap thing." She held up a rubber hand toy.
"That looks lame," Hunter dismissed.
Luz pouted. "Well, maybe you're lame!"
"Hey, hey, don't insult the customer," Eda scolded her pouting daughter.
"Yeah, you should listen to your grandma, kid," Hunter replied, which ticked Eda off.
"GRANDMA!? WHY YOU LITTLE SHIT!" Eda barked as Luz had to restrain her own mom.
"Mom, no! You can't hit a kid!" Luz held up a golf club. "I'm gonna hit him for ya!"
"That's nice, honey, now sic him!" Eda cried out.
Hunter was startled as he saw Luz climb over the table with the golf club. "That's my cue." He quickly sprinted out of there, but Luz chased after the boy.
"Come back here, you punk!" Luz shouted, raising her golf club.
"Stop chasing me, you crazy little psycho!" Hunter spat while running from the crazy human.
Luz chased him around the streets Bonesborough. In their path was the bodega, a quick-mark store that Tibbles, a short demon pig, was coming out of with a large muscular chicken demon bodyguard in a black robe.
"Ah, nothing like a megaton slushy on a day like this," Tibbles said as he was about to drink his big slushy, until he was knocked over when Hunter was tackled by Luz.
"Gotcha, punk!" Luz shouted while pinning Hunter to the ground.
"My drink!" Tibbles screeched. "You punks ruined my drink!" He looked at his chicken guard. "Oh Felix, would you eliminate those two kids for me? Do it and your debt will be paid off."
The chicken demon, Felix, turned to the two kids. Luz and Hunter saw Felix glaring at them. Luz looked at Hunter and leapt off of him. "Run!" she shouted as she and Hunter fled, Felix quickly giving chase.
While running, Luz managed to parkour up to a roof, out of reach of the chicken demon. However, she looked down and saw that Hunter was still running. She considered leaving him, but groaned in annoyance when she realized that she had to help him. She pulled a glyph card from her sleeve.
Hunter made his way down an alleyway, but found himself in a dead end. This allowed Felix to corner the young witchling. "Nothing personal, kid. I just need to pay off a debt from that pig!" When he charged, Hunter did nothing except try to shield himself with his arms. But before Felix could reach Hunter, a large ice block struck him in the head and knocked him down. Hunter looked down at the chicken, then up at Luz who was sliding down an ice slide that she had made with a glyph card.
"Taste ice block, you big fat chicken!" Luz declared before turning to Hunter. "What was that all about? You didn't even try to use your magic to defend yourself!"
This ticked Hunter off. "Well sorry that not all of us can rely on magic."
"Can't use magic?" Luz asked in confusion. "What are you talking about? Are you a late bloomer or something?"
"I mean I can't do magic at all!" Hunter clarified and Luz gasped. "I was… born powerless."
"-and right now me and Willow are still taking a break in our friendship," Luz was explaining to Hunter. "I don't know how much longer it'll last, but I'm giving Willow as much time as she needs. I miss hanging out with her regularly, but if she wants space then I am giving her space."
"That still sounds like it sucks though," Hunter commented. "I'm really sorry for you Luz, I know how close you and Willow were. Hopefully you two will start hanging out again."
Luz nodded. "Yeah. Thanks for listening, Hunter."
The blonde-haired witchling smiled. "Hey, no problem."
As they entered Bonesborough, Luz received a text on her own penstagram. As she pulled it out, her sleeve slipped a little and Hunter noticed the scale on her arm. However, he only commented out loud on the penstagram. "I didn't know you owned one of those things."
"This one's an old model," Luz explained while reading the text. "Oh, it's Amity!" Luz said excitedly with a blush, which Hunter also noticed. "She says she's heading to some party her friend's brother is throwing at the Harwitch residence. Sounds like the perfect party for me to crash! So much free food to take home!"
"Amity?" Hunter asked. "As in Amity Blight by any chance?"
"Yeah," Luz confirmed. "She was my tutor last semester at Hexside and she's a friend."
"A friend, huh? So you haven't asked her out, then?"
Luz's blush deepened as she looked up from her penstagram at Hunter in surprise. "I mean-"
"This party could be the perfect chance," Hunter told her. "And it sounds like my cue to leave, so I should probably-" He began skateboarding away.
"Hey, punk!" Luz called out to him and Hunter turned around. "Come on, you're coming with me to that party. We haven't hung out in so long, so I am not letting you get away that easily."
"But… I wasn't invited," Hunter pointed out and Luz sighed.
"It's called sneaking out, you ever done that? I have, just follow my lead," Luz replied before shoving him off his skateboard and getting on instead. She began to ride down the street heading for the Harwitch residence, knowing a shortcut.
"Hey! That's my skateboard, you little psycho!" Hunter shouted at her while waving his fist.
"Try to keep up!" Luz told him while Hunter ran after her. While Luz started to call her mom to tell her where she was going, she didn't notice Hunter catching up to her while riding a grocery cart until he passed her with a fire glyph that he had snagged from her to give himself a boost. Luz gasped when she saw him. "Hey! That's cheating!"
Tibbles was tapping his hoof while waiting for Felix "Where is that chicken with those children's bodies? Time is money!"
"What children?" asked a voice behind him.
"Oh some two brats that knocked me over, I think one of them looked like a human," Tibbles said.
"That human wouldn't happen to be carrying around a golf club?"
"Yeah, you've seen her around-" Tibbles turns to find an angry Eda standing over him. "The Owl Lady!?" he cried out, but before he could do anything Eda grabbed him by the head and her fingernails dug into his skill. "H-H-Hey! Do you know who I am!?"
"I don't give a crap, really, I just don't like pigs like you picking on kids. Especially my kid." Eda saw Luz coming back with Hunter. "Hey Luz, think fast!" Eda threw Tibbles towards Luz, who was still holding the golf club. Luz nodded and swung the golf club, hitting Tibbles in the face.
"Fore!" Luz cried out, while Tibbles was launched across town.
"YAAAAAAAAAHHH!" Tibbles screamed.
"Isn't that kind of… brutal?" Hunter asked them.
"The guy hired a chicken to chase and maim us, he totally deserved that," Luz said before turning to her mom. "Hey mom, think we head back to the stand? I think I know just want Mr. Personality here needs from the human world."
Soon they were back at the stand where Luz dug through a box of books. After throwing out a math book, a bible, and a coloring book, she found a few books and brought them to Hunter.
"Here you go," Luz said while handing the books to him. Hunter looked at them and on the cover of the first book was a guy in a karate Gi kicking a wooden plank. "These books can show you some self-defense techniques, to make up for your lack of magical abilities if you're ever cornered in an alleyway like that again."
Hunter looked at the books, then up at Luz "You're… helping me? After chasing me around with a golf club you're giving me these?"
"Well, when you told me that you can't do magic… it made me realize that I'm not alone in that department," Luz admitted as she held up her glyph cards. "As a human, I can't do magic normally. That's why I have these glyph cards." She laid one on the table.
Hunter looked at the card as Luz tapped on to it, causing a small ice block to form.
"Whoa… I've never seen magic done like this before," Hunter said.
"Yeah, all you need to do is draw the symbol of the glyphs, tap on it and voila! You get magic."
Hunter nodded. "Thanks… for the books."
"No problem, ya punk! Now how many snails have you got?" Luz asked him.
"Uh, what?" Hunter asked in confusion.
"Well those aren't free, you know," Luz told him. "I'm not running a charity case, so how many snails ya got?"
"Uh… I got about forty snails…" Hunter brought out a bag of snails and Eda snatched it from him.
"Sold! Now that's how you make a sale!" Eda said.
"Yeah! We got this kid to buy our junk!" Luz cheered while Hunter stared at them in disbelief.
"…I can't believe I got conned by a couple of buffoons," Hunter said to himself, scoffing as he put the books in his bag. "I'm outta here." He started to walk away.
"Hey!" Luz shouted and Hunter looked back. "What's your name, kid?"
Hunter thought about it before responding. "Hunter."
Luz walked around the stand and went over to him. "Well, I'm Luz," she introduced. "Luz Clawthorne. "And here's something free of charge." She slipped him her glyphs. "Don't worry, I can always make more. But I feel like you could use them."
Hunter hesitated. "I really shouldn't accept these..."
"Why not?" Luz asked.
"I, uh, live with my uncle," Hunter explained. "And he has some very strict views on magic."
"Well, he doesn't have to know," Luz pointed out. "It can be our secret." She winked at him.
Hunter smiled and took the cards from her. "Sure. Our secret."
Luz nodded. "And hey, if you're ever interested in acquiring more human junk feel free to drop by. I may even give you a discount next time… but no promises."
Hunter chuckled. "Maybe I will see you around, Luz Clawthorne."
Luz watched Hunter leave before heading back to her mother's stand.
"So did you just make yourself a new friend?" Eda asked.
"I don't know," Luz admitted. "But maybe I did..."
In the Owl House, Eda was folding clothes when she heard the crystal ball ringing. "This better not be a collect call- hey, it's Luz!" she said while tapping on the crystal ball. "Where have you been?"
"Oh you know, jogging. I actually ran into Hunter and now we're going to crash a teen party for the free food." Luz explained, though she was lying about the first part.
"Crashing parties, eh? Well try not to get caught," Eda advised. "And if they got some apple blood there, be sure to bring some back for me."
"I'll keep that in mind," Luz told mother. "See ya when I get back!" She then hung up.
"Well… this has been a surprisingly non-chaotic day so far," Eda said to herself as she relaxed on the couch. "Wonder what King's up to?"
"You know, sometimes I just want a break from Luz and Eda's misadventures and do my own thing," King said while laying on the grass with two others and looking up at the sky. "Hooty can be… crazy, but you know, hanging out with you guys and having our own crazy adventures once in a while is refreshing. Even if nobody else knows about them."
"Yeah, even if people don't realize that I can be more than just a potions seller," Morton replied while laying on the grass.
"We are the victims of a cruel and judgmental society," Tiny Nose replied with a sigh.
"You said it, Tiny Nose," King agreed. "You said it."
Amity was no stranger to parties, whether it was birthdays or high-class parties with her parents. But never in her life had she been to a party with so many students from so many other schools.
Amity sat inside a black limo carriage being pulled by the large spiders, Ed and Em with her.
"Don't worry, Mittens, you'll do fine without us," Emira told her younger sister.
"I don't see why you guys can't go," Amity admitted.
"Oh, I don't think Cat would want us in her house after a prank we pulled on her," Edric explained and Amity sighed in response.
"In our defense, we thought it would be hilarious to make her think she was turned into a mouse," Emira argued. "And it was, though she didn't think so." The limo carriage stopped at their destination. "But just remember, that if you want to leave for any reason we are only a phone call away. Does that sound good to you?"
Amity, who was looking out the window, turned to her siblings and smiled. "Yeah, sounds good."
"Great!" Edric said as Amity opened the door to let herself out. "Enjoy the party!"
Amity shut the door behind her and as the limo carriage moved on, she turned to face the large, gothic house with two manticore statues up front. She walked toward the entrance, she spotted Skara and Amelia with Cat outside and moved over to them.
"Hey, Amity!" Skara waved.
"Glad you made it, girl," Cat said with a smile.
"Skara, Cat, Amelia," Amity nodded. "Are you sure that Boscha isn't coming?"
"Yeah, she said she was doing grudgby practice," Cat confirmed.
"Good, because I do not want to deal with her tonight," Amity stated. "So are we just going in?"
"Yeah, hold up." Cat spotted her older brother, who had a corn roll hairstyle and wore shades. "Hey Dog! Can my friends come to the party now!?"
"As long as they don't cause any trouble and stay out of the cabinet!" Dog told his sister.
Cat led her friends inside the house, which was full of students that weren't just from Hexside, but other schools like Glandus, St. Epiderm, and Merlin Meadows. There was a table covered in food and drinks, while music played in the background.
"Wow, look at this turnout!" Skara stated.
"Never seen some of these students before," Amelia admitted.
"I think they're friends of friends that are in Dog's class," Cat responded "Enjoy yourselves, girls. You know where everything including bathrooms is, right?"
"Of course, we've been here before," Amelia said while Skara nodded.
"Actually, I haven't," Amity replied, looking around. "I don't think I've ever come to your place before, Cat."
"Oh, I have invited you but you always say you're busy with schoolwork and stuff," Cat told her "Honestly, I'm surprised that I got you here at all…" She heard a new song start to play in the background. "OH! This is my jam! Come on, Amelia, let's go show them how to party like a Hexsidian!" She pulled Amelia onto the dance floor leaving Amity with Skara.
While Cat and Amelia danced with the other guests, Amity and Skara went to the food table. Skara sparks up a conversation. "So what are you thinking?" she asked.
"I'll admit, I didn't expect this many people here," Amity replied, seeing one Glandus student shooting a bouncing fireball at some cups while others cheered him on. She even saw one guest hanging from a chandelier. "I didn't expect it to be this wild either." She grabbed some punch.
"Well, it is a party for older teens," Skara replied while looking around. "I considered asking Bo or Willow if they would like to come, but I figured that this wouldn't be their kind of scene." She noticed Amity looking down at her punch "Hey, you okay?"
"It's nothing, just…" Amity looked at Skara. "You wanted to ask Willow? I remember a time when you wouldn't have even thought about including her."
"Well, there was also a time when I would have done everything that Boscha told me to," Skara pointed out, though her face looked a little red. "But things are a bit different now and so are my priorities. Besides, Willow is nice. Strong too. Did you hear about her duel with Simon Saltstar of the Construction Track? It was crazy. I don't get why you and Boscha picked on her all the time, though I did go along with it even though I shouldn't have." She sighed. "You and Willow used to be friends, right? What happened between you two?"
"I… don't want to talk about it," Amity responded, though Skara noticed what looked like guilt.
"Well… do you want to talk about the… um… knife?" Skara whispered and Amity's eyes widened as she turned to her.
"I told you to forget about that," Amity hissed at her, making Skara to step back.
"Amity… I'm just concerned for you," Skara admitted. "I can tell that something is going on and I want to know what it is."
"It's none of your business," Amity told her.
"Yes it is," Skara argued, placing her hand on Amity's shoulder. "Because I'm your friend and there is something eating you up, something that will continue to do so if you don't talk about it."
Amity shrugged off Skara's hand. "I'm… sorry, Skara," she apologized. "But this isn't something you can help me with." She walked away, leaving Skara distraught.
Amity decided to go upstairs, maybe find a room to clear her head. She walked down a hallway filled with doors and opened one of them to be engulfed by purple smoke. Inside were a few teens burning some kind of plant that was making them drowsy and simple-minded.
"Heeeey man, don't tell my mooom about this," said one teen from the Plant Track.
Amity closed the door and sighed. "Maybe it was a mistake to come here," Amity said to herself before continuing to look for a bathroom or a balcony or something. What she didn't notice were two teenagers coming upstairs behind her…
Luz rode up to the Harwitch residence on the skateboard and saw a busted up grocery cart by the fence outside.
"He beat me here," she realized, wondering if Hunter was already inside the house. She slapped an ice glyph beneath her, creating an ice pillar that she used to launch herself over the fence. "Yoink!" she shouted while tapping a plant glyph card and creating a large leaf that she used to hang glide over to the house.
Amity was looking at a wall of family photos, noticing that Cat's family in the portraits looked like they were having fun. She hugged herself, feeling envious.
'Cat's family looks so happy,' Amity thought to herself, remembering Luz's family and how much they loved each other as well. She sighed and thought of Skara. 'Maybe I was… too harsh on her.' She tried to walk away, but found that she couldn't move. "What?" She looked down and saw that her ankles were wrapped in some kind of bandages.
Bandages…
"Snoops gonna snoop, girly," said a familiar voice.
Amity's eyes widened as she felt more bandages wrap around her arms. Amity tried to scream. "HE-hmm!" She was silenced when more bandages wrapped around her mouth, gagging her. The bandages turned her around, forcing her to face a mummy witch and a hooded witch with pale blue skin. Aka her muggers.
"Long time no see… little Blight," the mummy witch said to Amity.
"We want a word with you," the hooded witch said and Amity noticed that next to him was a hunchbacked student with long blonde hair and a black jacket. "Brian, lock the door after we enter the room."
"Yes, Zephyr," Brian replied in a monotone voice. Amity looked at them with fear in her eyes as she struggled before being dragged into a room, something breaking off of her neck in the process.
Luz found a window which she sneakily opened and climbed through into a bedroom. She spotted a young boy who was asleep with headphones on. "Aww, reminds me of King," Luz said when she saw the kid, before turning toward the door. "Just gonna sneak quietly." She tiptoed across the room after silently closing the window behind her. She stepped on a Lego brick and covered her mouth to keep herself from crying out in pain. She checked to see if the boy was still asleep. He was. 'Damn Legos! I didn't even think they'd have those here!' Luz thought, while making it to the other side of the room. She sneakily exited into the hallway, silently closing the door behind her.
Luz sighed in relief and was about to search for Hunter… until she stepped on something. Looking down, she noticed a familiar necklace with a purple gemstone. "This looks like…" She looked up, noticing a hunchbacked teen going into a room and locking the door behind him. From inside the room Luz heard what sounded like faint struggling sounds…
Amity was pinned to the wall of a spare room. This room must've been used for storage purposes, since there were boxes lying about. Brian was in front of the locked door, while Zephyr stood next to his mummy witch friend.
"I know it has to be you, girly," the mummy witch said as Amity's bonds were tightened by her bandage magic. "Some of our friends were picked one by one by the Emperor's Coven, meaning someone snitched. Though me and Zephyr were lucky enough to stay low after cutting up that fish boy. But surprise, surprise when we went to this party, we spotted you by the punch bowl."
Amity's thoughts were still being processed… they were talking about Levi… they hurt Levi. She glared at them and felt the bandages wrapped around her neck start to squeeze.
"Don't glare at me like that!" the mummy girl spat.
"Ease up on the bandages, Bangles," Zephyr said while grinning at Amity. "When I checked your little notes, I found your name… Amity Blight. And when I was pickpocketing at the covention, I thought I saw you there. That was you wasn't it? Blight Industries' youngest heir, maybe you should meet our friends…" Zephyr pulled out a knife and held it up closely to Amity's face. "But first, I'm going to cut you up a little for snitching."
"Hehe, snitchy witches get stitches," Bangles snickered and Amity was now in tears as the knife was close to her face, feeling helpless.
"Some scars would look good with that pretty face of yours," Zephyr mocked.
Amity shut her eyes, anticipating the feeling of the knife cutting into her skin…
They were interrupted by someone banging on the door. "FBI, open up!"
Zephyr pulled his knife away from Amity while he, Bangles and Brian looked at the door. "Go away, we're busy!" Bangle shouts.
"What's an FB-AAAAAH!" Brian screamed as the door was blasted open. Bangles and Zephyr shielded themselves while Amity opened her eyes. When the smoke cleared, standing on top of a knocked out Brian was Luz.
"Let go of her," she threatened darkly. "Now."
The two muggers looked at each other, Zephyr noticing Luz's ears and chuckling. "Or what, little human?" He walked up to Luz. "If you know what is good for you, leave before we decide to hurt you." He shoved Luz.
When you were young and your heart, was an open book
Luz glared at Zephyr before she heard Bangles laughing while Amity struggled to get out of her bandage bonds.
You used to say live and let live(You know you did, you know you did, you know you did)
While Zephyr looked back at Bangles to laugh as well, the human girl reached behind her and pulled out her bat.
But if this ever changing world, in which we're living
Makes you give in and cry
Luz swung and Brucy grinned as he was aimed at Zephyr's head.
Say live and let die
WHACK! Just as Zephyr turned back to face Luz, he was hit hard in the face by the swinging bat.
Live and let die.
Bangles stopped laughing, shocked, and Amity felt her bonds loosen up a bit. Zephyr fell to the floor and while he was down, Luz swung her bat at where the sun didn't shine.
Everyone downstairs stopped partying when they heard a pain-filled scream coming from one of the rooms upstairs.
"The hell was that scream!?" Cat cried out, marching upstairs. Among the crowd of teens was Hunter, who had managed to blend in.
"Pussy," Luz said, before feeling bandages wrap around the arm that held Brucy. She struggled and saw Bangles focused on her now..
"You're gonna pay for hurting Brian and Zephyr, you little-" Luz brought out another glyph card and tapped on it, burning the bandages away. "AHH!" She cried out while pulling the bandages back.
Before Luz could try to take Bangles out, pillars sprang from the floor thanks to Zephyr and Luz stepped back while Bangles helped Zephyr up, the two glaring at her.
"Let's cut her up," Zephyr said with a high-pitched voice.
"Agreed," Bangles replied as she brought out her own knives and charged at Luz.
The human girl dodged the swinging knives and grabbed Bangle's arm, spinning her into the wall. When Zephyr charged, she did a backflip while grabbing his shoulders, her feet landing on his back and causing him to stumble away. Luz stood up just in time to see Bangles charging again.
The fight had moved from the spare room into the hallway. Luz managed to knock Bangles down the stairs, causing Cat to get out of the way, and when Zephyr grabbed her, she grabbed him by the hood and threw him. The teen flew past Bangles and crashed onto the food table. From the top of the stairs, Luz looked down at the two as they started to get up. Unknown to Luz, Brian was behind her. All it took was for someone to shout a warning and Luz used her bat to hit Brian in the crotch, causing his eyes to bulge out.
"Ooooh…" Brian groaned and Luz flung him down the stairs so that he fell on top of Zephyr.
"Creeps," Luz said. She was about to head back to the spare room and check on Amity, but she felt a bandage wrap around her stomach. The bandage yanked Luz off her feet, slamming her into the wall and then on the floor.
Bangles chuckled and began to gloat. "You almost had me, human," she said while pulling out her knife. "But now you're gonna get cut first, and then I'll go back and cut up that little green-haired bitch!" While most of the party goers were too shocked to do anything, the fists of one witch began to tighten when she realized who Bangles was referring to Luz's eyes began to shine blue and she snarled at Bangles before the mummy witch's bandages were burned by a fireball being thrown at it. "AAH! Who did that!?" Bangles demanded, looking down and saw that Skara was the one who had cast the spell.
"Leave her alone!" Skara shouted angrily.
This gave Luz the opportunity to stand up. "Thanks, Skara," she said, taking advantage of Bangles being distracted by kicking her. Bangles hit a wall, but wrapped more bandages around Luz's arm and pulled her toward her.
While the two struggled, Luz smirked and Bangles noticed. "What are you smirking at, bitch?"
"Just one thing…" Luz held up two glyph cards. "Want some juice?" She slapped the glyph combo cards onto her face and kicked herself away from Bangles, grabbing one of her knives and using it to cut herself free of the bandages.
"What is sticking on my face!?" Bangles asked as the light glyph and fire glyph activated, creating a high voltage charge. "KYAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" She screamed as her body was electrocuted, everyone covering their eyes until the flashing stopped.
Once it did, the bandages covering Bangles' body looked burnt and she coughed out some smoke. "Ahahahahahahahaahaaa…" She laughed weakly before falling to the floor, unconscious.
Luz was breathing heavily as she looked down at her defeated opponent.
"Hey! Hey!" Cat made it upstairs, shouting at Luz. "What the hell are you doing leaving a cooked mummy on the floor-"
"Shut up," Luz said, not looking at her. Cat noticed something in Luz's back and looked shocked.
Dog came back inside the house. "What the hell is going on here-" He looked at the aftermath of the chaos and glared at Cat, who was standing at the top of the stairs.
"Don't look at me, I ain't cleaning this mess," Cat told her brother. They all then heard groaning as Zephyr got Brian's unconscious body off of him and stood back up.
"I… ain't… through!" Zephyr shouted as his eyes glowed, but then Hunter appeared behind him and kicked Zephyr in the back, knocking him to the floor. A boot landed on the back of Zephyr's neck, while Hunter kept his hands in his pockets.
"I think you are," Hunter said as he stomped onto Zephyr's head, knocking him unconscious. He looked around at the shocked guests. "What? Just taking out some trash."
"Who are you?" Skara asked him.
Hunter shrugged. "I'm the trashman, here to take out some trash."
Luz returned to the spare room where she had left Amity. "Amity? Amity!" she cried out, before she heard sniffing. She found Amity sitting in a corner, tears falling down her face as she stared blankly at nothing. She looked like she was still in a state of shock. "Oh no, Amity, Amity, I'm here!" Once Luz slowly reached out and touched her, Amity gasped. She blinked and looked at Luz, recognizing her. "I'm here, Amity. Are you okay?"
All the Blight girl could do was immediately wrap her arms around Luz, burying her face in her shoulder. Amity cried into Luz, while Luz held her and patted her back.
"L-L-Luz…" Amity tried to say. "I-I-I-"
"Hey, hey it's okay." Luz rubbed Amity's back softly, comforting her while Skara and Cat came into the room along with Amelia. Hunter hung out in the hallway, not wanting to get in the way but still listening.
"Amity!" Skara shouted, rushing forward with Amelia and Car. "Is she alright?"
"She looks a little bruised up, what happened?" Cat asked after checking Amity's arm and neck.
"Those punks I was fighting with, they were harassing Amity for some reason," Luz told them while still holding Amity.
"Uh, Luz…" Amelia pointed to the knife sticking out of Luz's upper back. "There's a knife on your back!"
Luz turned her head to look at the knife. "Huh, when did I get stabbed?" Luz asked.
"How can you be so calm about that!?" Cat shouted, while summoning a healing glyph to tend Amity's bruised neck.
Luz had to let go of Amity to pull the knife out of her back, though Amity still held onto her. She pulled it out of her back, wincing, and dropped it on the floor.
"Let me take a look at your wound," Cat said, lifting up Luz's shirt. Her eyes widened when she saw Luz's wound getting closed up on its own. She looked shocked and blinked twice.
"Well? Anything?" Luz asked.
"Um… do wounds usually close up by themselves this quickly for humans?" Cat asked.
"I… guess…" Luz responded, sounding unsure. Amity looked down in guilt.
"Y-You got hurt… trying to protect me…" Amity said while Luz patted her head.
"Hey, what matters most is that you're safe," Luz assured her. She pulled out something from her pocket, a necklace with a gem "Also, here. You dropped this."
Amity took the necklace back and looked up at Luz, sniffing "Can you… stay with me while Cat heals me?"
"Of course," Luz replied. Cat's brother, Dog, then showed up.
"Alright, what's going on here, sis?" Dog demanded.
"Bro, now's not the time. My friend got in trouble, and she needs my attention," Cat told her older brother.
"What in tarnation is going on around here!?"
The siblings froze when they heard their younger brother coming out from his bedroom. He stood in the doorway of the spare room, glaring at the two angrily through his glasses. "I was having a wonderful nap until I start hearing all of this commoshin!" He sounded like a cranky old man.
"Oh man, Moose, we're sorry!" Dog tried to calm his younger brother down.
"Wait, his name is Dog and your little brother's name is Moose?" Luz questioned.
"Enough! Look at the mess you all brought here in this house!" Moose complained. "If those bozos don't get outta the house, I'm tattling!"
"Can't I just heal my friend?" Cat calmly asked. "She's not feeling well."
"Fine!" Moose said as he marched towards the top of the stairs and shouted at the other party goers. "Any one of you that don't live in this house, get out or I'll call the po-po!" The teens began to make their way toward the exit, not wanting to make a fuss or risk causing a disturbance…
Though Cat helped to treat the bruises on Amity, she was still startled by the experience.
"I've already contacted her house and told her siblings that you'll bringing her to them, but she should feel better by tomorrow since she fortunately wasn't too seriously hurt," Cat informed Luz, who was carrying Amity in a bridal style. "She's not letting you go, is she?"
"Yeah… she's got a tight grip on me for sure," Luz replied. Both she and Amity were blushing, though neither could see it.
"What a night," Amelia commented as she and Skara walked out together. She looked at Amity. "Hope you feel better, Amity. Sorry that you had the party ruined for you like this."
"Yeah, please text me when you get home so that I know you're alright," Skara said to Amity. "Or call me." She looked at Luz. "Why is everything a fight with you, Luz?"
"Life's a fight, it punches you and you punch back," Luz said as she carried Amity outside.
"Y'all take care of yourselves," Dog said before he turned to the mess left by the aftermath of his party. He sighed and started the clean up.
"I promise to make this up to you somehow!" Cat added before turning to help her brother.
"I'll take Amelia to my place until her parents can pick her up," Skara said while noticing someone by the entrance. "Hey, it's that guy over there."
Luz turned to see Hunter using the end of a shovel to put the three attackers in the trash bin. He placed a lid over them and sat a brick on it. "Heard you were taking out the trash for me," Luz said while walking up to him.
"Yeah, you could say that," Hunter replied, noticing Amity still holding onto Luz. "Is she alright?" he asked, concerned. Amity hid her face in Luz's chest.
"She'll be fine, she just needs to be taken home," Luz replied with a sigh. "Sorry that we had to cut this short, so much for catching up."
"Understandable," Hunter said as he held up a bag of cheese sticks, preparing to snack on them. "It was nice while it lasted at least, though I may not be the social butterfly like you."
"Okay, I am not a butterfly, I'm more of a rhinoceros beetle," Luz pointed out to him.
Hunter chuckled, but then got an idea. "Hand me your penstagram." Luz did so and Hunter added his number to it. "Since you have this now, staying in touch will be much easier."
Luz nodded, smiling at him. "By the way, your skateboard is on the other side of the fence, where you crashed that grocery cart. Same spot."
"Hopefully no one bothered to take it," Hunter replied while munching on his chips "Good to see you again, Clawthorne. Though I have a feeling that it won't be too long before our paths cross again."
"Yeah, nice seeing you too, Moodsville," Luz replied, gently punching him in the shoulder before turning around to walk Amity home. Amity lifted her head to look at Hunter, who was now just sitting on the trash can where her muggers were.
"You know this guy?" Amity asked.
"Yeah, Hunter's a friend. He's interested in human stuff like Gus is, only not as obsessed. He also tries to act cool but really he's not impressing anybody," Luz explained before she felt a cheese stick land in her hair. She turned around to see Hunter still sitting on the trash can. "And apparently he has good aim," she muttered while raising her hand to flip Hunter off with a grin.
"And good ears!" Hunter responded, flipping her off back with a grin as well. Once everyone else was gone, Hunter pulled out a crow and called someone. "Hey, Felix! It's ya boy GG… listen, think your station's cells have room for three? Got a special delivery… yeah, they may be the muggers."
"Well, we're here," Luz announced as she stood in front of Blight Manor, still carrying Amity. "Are you okay to stand now?" she asked.
"Just...walk me to the door," Amity responded and Luz did so. "Luz I… I don't know what to do about myself. After what happened, I don't know if I could take this…"
Luz placed Amity down and sat next to her. "I'm just happy that you didn't get as badly hurt as you could have."
Amity looked unsure of herself as Luz slowly helped her to her feet. "I think I just need… a change of scenery. To get away from all this, at least for a bit." Luz's eyes widened when she heard this. She took a deep breath before continuing.
"Well… maybe I can help with that," Luz said, rubbing her hair nervously. "If you're… interested… I could take you with me to the human world for a day." Amity's eyes now widened. "O-Only if you're comfortable with that, I-I-I mean, you should feel- oh what am I saying? This was a-" As Luz was about to walk away, her hand was grabbed by Amity. Luz looked at her.
"I would… love to go to the human world with you."
"R-Really?" Luz asked.
"Yes," Amity confirmed. When she realized that she was still holding Luz's hand, she took her hand back and looked away to hide her blush. "Do I… need to wear something formal…"
"Casual's fine," Luz told her. "You'll get to meet some humans I know that are practically family to me. Like the human stepbrother I mentioned before… and his apparent twin sister."
"Twins?' Amity asked. "I mean, I can't wait." The door behind her opened, revealing Edric and Emira with worried looks.
"Amity, are you okay?" Emira asked, the two coming out.
"You're not hurt, are you?" Edric asked in worry.
"I'm fine, guys, really," Amity told them.
"Thanks for bringing her home safely, Luz," Emira thanked. "We really appreciate it."
"No problem," Luz said while looking at Amity, who smiled at her. Luz smiled back.
"Well then, better get Mittens to bed so she can be ready for your date tomorrow," Edric said as he and his twin sister smirked.
"Yeah, we were listening the whole time," Emira said, causing the two younger girls to blush. "But… thanks for being there for her, Luz. Really." Emira patted Luz's shoulder.
"Yeah, you're welcome," Luz nodded while turning to Amity. "I'll see you tomorrow then, Ams."
"You too, Luz," Amity replied as she and Luz waved at each other. The Blight siblings went inside their house and the door closed behind them. Now alone, Luz turned around and started to head back home. And despite everything that had happened that day, including the scales and her fight with the muggers… Luz couldn't help but smile.
Because she knew that tomorrow she had a date with Amity Blight.
"Are you sure, my boy?" Emperor Belos asked a figure that now knelt before him.
"Yes, it seems that Luz Clawthorne is developing scales," the figure revealed. "Though admittedly, I only saw one. I also saw her get stabbed, but she didn't even notice it and when the knife was pulled out the wound sealed itself up almost immediately."
Emperor Belos was delighted "Well done, my boy. Though I expect you to continue monitoring the Clawthorne girl as her condition continues to develop. The more we know, the more easily we can help her when the time comes. And this is why you're the perfect person for the job… my Golden Guard."
The figure, Hunter, looked up at Belos. "And we will help her, uncle?"
"Of course, Hunter," Belos reassured his nephew. "After all, you and her are very much alike. Both of you were born without magic… and despite that, the Titan has great things planned for you both. And when the Day of Unity arrives, she will be standing here with us. All in due time."
Hunter nodded. "Thank you, my uncle. I will continue to make you proud."
"Have you ever done anything else?" Belos asked. He walked over to Hunter and put his hand on the teen's shoulder. "Sometimes I wonder what I did to deserve you, Hunter."
"You took me in," Hunter reminded Belos. "When I had nobody else, you gave me a family. A home. A purpose. Everything. And for that, I am willing to give you everything in return."
"Ah, yes," Belos said. "Very good. Come, my nephew. There are other matters that we must attend to. Though I promise that you will see your friend again soon enough…"
Hunter rose to his feet and followed his uncle as they left the room together, the hand of Belos still proudly clasping his shoulder. And as he walked with Belos, Hunter smiled. Though it wavered slightly at the thought that he would have to keep lying to Luz…
After his meeting with the human girl, Hunter returned home… to the castle of Emperor Belos.
"Hunter! There you are!"
The blonde boy closed his eyes and sighed, turning to face a very frustrated Kikimora.
"You've been sneaking out of the castle again, haven't you?" Kikimora scolded the boy. "Do you what the Emperor will do if he-"
"You're annoying me, Kiki," Hunter said, brushing her off while he headed to his room.
Kikimora glared at the boy, her fists tightening. "The audacity of that spoiled brat…"
When Hunter made it to his room and closed the door behind him, he gave out a tired sigh. He went to his desk and pulled something out from his sleeve. A glyph card. Checking to make sure that he was alone, Hunter tapped the card and it turned into a ball of light. Hunter smiled as he looked at the ball of light, thinking of his encounter with Luz Clawthorne.
And he realized that he hoped to see her again.
Betcha didn't see that coming, did ya?
We'll we're at the 3rd quarter of the first season as a lot of things happened. Luz meets her recurring doctor named Dr. Elizabeth W. Bride, PhD, who originated from the human world and as Luz's regular doctor since she's more familiar with human parts, while also practice abominable mad science. After meeting her, Viney wants to help Luz figure out what she's becoming. Also we learned that Luz's got another old friend she knew occasionally...Hunter. Yes, Hunter, aka the Golden Guard. Using the sibling-like relationship as he's also shown to still be a Belos-stan.
Oh, and Luz fought against Amity's muggers. Yeah, didn't expected them to pop up again? Well, hope if gives you some closure about them, finally getting caught. Yeah, teen parties like this there's always going to be some conflicts and trouble. And then we learned that their names are Zephyr, Bangles(The band that singed "Walk Like an Egyptian), and the third one who's new is Brian(as a reference to Richard O'Brian as his appearance is based off of Riff-Raff).
Also, another milestone is Luz asking Amity out on a date. Yes, to the human world, and yes, back to the falls where Amity gets to meet Luz's human family, by her mother's marriage.
We also get a glimpse of Lilith's childhood down memory lane, hinted at how in this story she is Odalia's old friend, and is familiar with Nicole which Eda would too since they share the same track. Decided that Odalia's last name would be "Grunhar" in German reference translation to "Green Hair" as it's pronounced as "Grunes Haar".
Also lyrics used was "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCarthy, used for the start of the fight sequence.
Here are some review answers:
RonaldM4: He's pretty much high security.
BuckJohnson: Well, it seems we've seen some bits as Luz keeps her transformation a secret from her mom. And you got a lot of points there so thanks for the review.
BlueKnight-X2: Yeah, pretty epic.
Gamelover41592: Well, this will be at the point where Luz has been more focusing on Amity, but it doesn't mean she forgot about Willow. Like Amity, Luz felt she's not ready to try to make amends, as she is starting to become a better person. But don't worry, things will play out right in the end, especially when we get to a certain point of the story…
Helljumper206: Well, Luz is taking it slow.
Guardian of the Inheritance: Thanks.
Shuffollower: Yeah, I think you may have been late on that. Sorry about it. A) Batroc is like this one background character in the plant track who looks like a bat with tusks. B) The itch is probably what the next or current chapter have answered, C) Look up my DeviantArt account "JumpZone" and you'll find Luz Clawthorne art there. D) Spoilers, E) Looks like you got your answers. And it's not something Belos had something to do with, but he is aware of Luz's existence…
Ultimate-drax: Yeah, Luz gain some character development, as well as a lot of characters. As for Boscha, hopes the context helps, and yeah it's always the sins of the parents, sometimes. Guess Lilith being Amity's godmother shocked you as well.
The Great Fossil King: Those two questions would be spoilers.
OMAC001: Soon, my friend. Just gotta wait until we reach a certain point.
Jss2141: All will be explained soon.
Teloch: Well, I'm not confirming anything unless you've seen the latest episodes of season 2.
Crosshot: Luz's transformation would be a main focus. You gotta love that the author knows and lets the readers theorize it. Hope you add more in the TV Tropes page, especially a tearjerker page for this story.
ReviewerDWJ: Thanks.
The Franninator: That can be arrange. And thanks for the reviews.
