GreHun: Taking Care

Heracles snuggled further into the bedsheets, his head pounding and his joints feeling pained. He had no idea what time it was, just that he had absolutely no interest to get up. He had a vague feeling that he was forgetting something, but he didn't care at that point. He just wanted to sleep.

His eyes snapped open when he felt a cold hand on his forehead. He looked up to see Elizaveta, and he remembered that they were supposed to go on a date that day.

"Poor Hera," Elizaveta cooed. "You have a fever. How long have you been feeling sick?"

He frowned, trying to process the question. He tried to sit up, but the pounding in his head and the aching in his joints stopped him. Elizaveta noticed his hesitation.

"My head hurts," Heracles explained. "And my joints…"

"I'm going to go to the pharmacy and get you something for the flu," Elizaveta said. "You stay in bed, alright?"

"But, what about our date?"

"I think it's safe to say that you're not going anywhere. But if you insist, you can get some blankets for the couch and we can watch a movie. How's that?"

Heracles smiled. He was glad that Elizaveta didn't seem to be angry with him.

Over the course of the week, Heracles's condition only worsened. He'd reached the point where any food was met with trepidation. Anything stronger than a piece of toast usually made its way into the toilet bowl.

Heracles was shivering as Elizaveta removed the thermometer. She clicked her tongue.

"Thirty-nine degrees," she announced. "How did you get so sick?"

"I-I don't know," he stammered, before he started coughing. "You should… probably leave me here. I don't w-want you to get sick too."

"Sweetie, I'm not leaving you alone like this. I'll stay with you until you're all better, alright?"

Two days after Heracles finished the antibiotics, he started to see an improvement. He no longer had to run to the bathroom whenever he ate, and slowly, his appetite started to return. He still had a bit of a cough, but it was still better than he had been.

However…

"That's a nasty cough," Heracles said. "I told you that you'll get sick too."

"Then I guess you'll just have to nurse me back to health," Elizaveta said sweetly.

It could have been a joke, had Elizaveta not started with a nasty cough. Heracles sighed. Now he had to remember all of the things they got for him.

This chapter was inspired by my own recent bout of a sinus infection. Cold air, wind, people lighting fireplaces at night and the smoke being carried by the wind… There were a few things that ended up bothering my sinuses. And unfortunately, a sinus infection has the power to make me really sick, and it has a tendency to evolve to pneumonia pretty quickly. And as you can imagine, pneumonia is the last thing you want to be stuck with right now. I was stuck with this sinus infection for almost three weeks. I'm better now, save for the occasional cough.
