April 1st, Pallet Town
He was pacing. He was fully aware of his pacing and he knew that the others in the room were staring at him. But he didn't care; he was nervous. Or was he excited? Anxious? Was that the correct word to describe what he was feeling? Words were not something that he was good with. It didn't matter, he was worked up and pacing helped calm him, even if it was only slightly.
Ash didn't care about his pacing and he especially didn't care about the looks that the others were giving him. This was probably the most important day in his entire life, for today was the day that he would receive his first Pokemon. This wasn't like the first day at a new school or the day one received a first car or something else that that many considered to be life changing days. No, today was something much more profound; today he would meet a partner that would be with him for the rest of his life, a friend that would be by his side through thick and thin, someone that would help him accomplish his dreams. To someone who had aspirations involving Pokemon there was no comparison to the day one received their starter, well maybe the day they got married or the day that their kids were born, but Ash had never had a girlfriend and he was far too young for children, so as far he was concerned this was the most important day in his life.
He had been waiting for this day for 15 years already and he really didn't want to wait any longer, but the Professor had needed a few more minutes to get ready so he and the three others that would be receiving a starter Pokemon had to wait. He finally stopped pacing as he looked up at the clock on the wall, 9:15am. He had been here since 8:45am, and two of the other three people had been here even before him, the last one showing up right at the designated 9am.
Biting his lip he looked around the room at the other Pallet Town teens. His chocolate eyes fell to his former friend and current rival, Gary Oak, who was relaxing on the couch with his feet propped up on the coffee table. To most he seemed perfectly calm and unbothered by the important decision that he would be making in a few minutes. But Ash had known Gary since they were children and he knew that when Gary started to fiddle with the yellow and green Ying-Yang medallion that rested around his neck he was secretly freaking out on the inside. That being said he was still probably the calmest of the gathered teenagers. Truth be told his attitude matched his outfit, a royal blue tunic styled shirt, skinny jeans and new brown boots that functioned more like slippers than actual boots, all very stylish but not very practical for the living out in the wild, just like Gary himself.
Shifting his eyes over to the only female of the quartet he could see Leaf Green standing over in the corner. She was constantly tapping her blue sneaker covered foot against the floor, which based on the occasional look that Gary was shooting her, was just as annoying his own as incessant pacing. Leaf's face however was steeled and emotionless, her grey eyes set cold (she always had the best poker face in town). If she even noticed Gary's glares she chose to ignore them, which wasn't a surprise really. Leaf had always been a loner and the girl's posture showed how emotionally closed off she was. Her arms were crossed over her black tank top and he could see her black finger-less gloves clenched into fists. The only time she ever really interacted with the other youths of Pallet was when she made snide comments or stole their wallets. Ash himself was a praticular favorite of her pick-pocketing, so much so that he started wearing pants with zippers on the pockets.
A deep and clearly annoyed groan brought Ash's attention over towards the window where Jack Zelkova stood. The blonde haired teen was staring out the window with his arms braced against the window sill. He was clearly agitated and frustrated about the wait. Ash knew better than to get close though, the scowl on Jack's face clearly showed that anyone that approached him would be walking away with a black eye; he had already gotten plenty of those over the years from Jack, he didn't need another one, especially not today. Leaf didn't even pass him a glance and Gary outright smirked at Jack's frustration.
Letting out a sigh he glanced up to the balcony that overlooked the room they were all waiting in. Professor Oak had walked up to the balcony about 10 minutes ago and hadn't been seen since. At least the additional time gave him a chance to think about what starter he would pick. Despite how important the decision was he still hadn't completely decided on which of the three starters he would pick.
All three of the Pokemon species that Professor Oak provided to trainers every year were amazingly powerful and rare species that were specially breed for the professor to give out to a chosen few. He had been thinking about it for years now and he was currently leaning heavily towards the water type Squirtle; they were loyal and friendly, easy to raise, and their final evolved forms were both powerful and good leaders of other Pokemon. Of course a Charmander would be awesome too. They were more aggressive and thus more difficult to raise, but the little lizard would one day evolve into one of the most popular and powerful fire types in the world. Plus who could resist the temptation of being able to fly on the back of pseudo-dragon. Bulbasaur were very mellow tempered, the least aggressive of the trio even when evolved, and their various spores were great for catching more Pokemon. When fully evolved into a Venusaur they became powerful Pokemon that any trainer would want to have. Patient and wise Venusaur were amazing to have around younger Pokemon that needed training and supervision. It was such a hard choice to make!
Of course any decision would be affected by the other beginning trainers. They couldn't all choose at the same time; someone would have to go first and that meant that whoever went last wouldn't really have much of a choice at all. Ash wasn't sure how the professor chose the order. For that matter he wasn't sure how four people could choose between three Pokemon. It was an unusual situation that, as far as Ash knew, had never happened before. Every year Professor Oak administered his own version of the Pokemon Trainer Licensing course that received participants from all around the entire Kanto region, not just Pallet Town, who had hopes of receiving one of the special three starters. The course ran similarly to the national licensing exam, but had Oak's own personal touch; making the course even harder than the standard exam. Consisting of three sections the week long course contained a written exam, a battle exam, and a wilderness survival exam. Only the top three scorers in the course would receive the option to choose Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle; everyone else would receive some other Pokemon that the Professor was able to provide such as one of the Nidorans, Rhyhorn, Pidgey, Psyduck, etc. This year was different however, all the top scorers were from Pallet, and there were more than three. Gary was the highest scorer of the exam followed by Leaf, but Ash and Jack had tied for the third highest score and so now there were four trainers to receive one of the rare starters.
He was brought out of his musing by Professor Oak from up on the loft. "Alright new trainers! We're all ready up here, so come on up!" All four of them looked at the balcony above them for a few seconds before the realization dawned on them. Leaf was the first to start moving followed Gary, with Jack and Ash bringing up the rear. As they made it up the stairs it was easy to see that the loft was decorated very differently from the first floor. The first floor was fairly plain with the only real furniture being the couch and coffee table that Gary had previously monopolized. Otherwise it was only filled with computers and equipment that Ash probably couldn't even pronounce. The second floor however had small toys laying all over the floor and a table against the back wall with bags of treats and empty bowls. All that was irrelevant however, because in the middle of the room, on top of the grey rug was Bulbasaur, Charmander, and a Squirtle.
The three Kanto region starters were all sitting on cushions that were colored after their respected types and looking at the new trainers with a look of excitement and a fair bit of nervousness, apparently the humans weren't the only ones that understood the importance of today. Professor Oak loudly clapped his hands, gaining the attention of all present in the room. Once he was sure that everyone was paying attention to him he began speaking "Well youngsters, today is the first day of your Pokemon journeys. I'm sure that you all understand the importance of what happens today, so I'll try not to bother you all with a boring speech. I just ask that you all make sure to take care of your starter as well as any other Pokemon that you capture, that you never give up on your dreams, and that you stay safe on the journey. With that said let's get started. You four will choose your starters in the order of your exam scores. The highest scorer on the exam was Gary, so he will choose first."
Gary strutted forward towards the three small Pokemon with his usual confidence and bravado. He didn't even pause to consider his choice. Gary crouched down in front of the Squirtle. The blue turtle was only about as tall as Gary's knee when he was standing so even crouched he was taller than the water type. He reached his hand out and was oddly silent but he was confident, a key trait for Pokemon trainer. The tiny turtle Pokemon looked at the out stretched hand before smirking and turning around to rub his fluffy tail against the brunette's palm, a common form of socialization with Squirtles and Wartortles. Chuckling, Gary patted the Squirtle's tail before reaching out and patting him on the head. Gary stood up and turned to his grandfather with the Squirtle taking its place beside him. Apparently the two didn't need to speak, a sure sign that they would either fall apart very quickly, or that their bond would be extremely strong; in the end only time would tell.
Professor Oak smiled and nodded at his grandson's choice. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a poke-ball with a small blue water symbol etched on the front. The Professor handed the pokeball to Gary before directing the boy and his new starter out of the way. Looking back at the other three the elder smiled and addressed them once again. "Leaf my dear, you were the second highest scorer, so you get to pick next." The pick-pocket pushed herself off the balcony's banister and made her way towards the two remaining starters, her sneakers squeaking on the hard floor. Ash bit his lip and looked at Jack, the professor hadn't mentioned what would happen to the fourth trainer so he was pretty nervous. Jack paid no attention to Ash or the starters either. He seemed more interested at staring at Leaf's butt in her red short shorts as she walked forward; it was no secret that Jack was interested in Leaf, she was a very pretty girl after all, but Leaf herself out right hated Jack and made no effort to hide it.
The brunette stopped in front of the two starters and seemed to consider her choice for a moment. Ash wasn't sure which she would pick, he could she her with either one. A Bulbasaur and its various spores would be very useful to a girl that liked to scam people for fun, but a Charizard would also be useful for quick get aways when a scam went wrong, there was reason she was the fastest runner in Pallet Town after all. He had known her for years and knew that she could be as calm and patient as a Bulbasuar or viscous and violent as a fire type. Leaf took a deep breath before turning towards the Bulbasaur and like Gary she crouched down in front of him; Ash noticed that this particular Bulbasaur was male when he looked at the tip of its bulb. "Hey there cutie," he her begin to speak in a low voice, "would you like to come with me?" The Seed Pokemon beamed and started rubbing his head against Leaf's leg. She patted the grass type's head before standing up and approaching the Professor. She received Bulbasaur's poke ball from the Professor and walked over towards where Gary was silently observing the choosing. She leaned back against the wall and watched the two boys with great interest; even Bulbasaur and Squirtle looked very intrigued with what was about to happen.
The Professor smiled before turning his attention to the final two trainers. He smiled at the two. "Well boys, as you can see there are two of you and only one Charmander left. I'm afraid you two left me with quite the conundrum. I've had ties for first place and even second, but believe it or not I've never had ties for third place before." The old man chuckled as the two boys looked at him, before looking at each other; Jack with a scowl and Ash with nervousness. "But I think I've figured out a good solution, one of you boys will take Charmander here as your new ally, while the other will receive the chance to pick a starter from a different set of Pokemon. I should note that this other batch won't be the traditional Kanto region starters. So which one of you wants to take Charmander?"
Both boys held looks of shock. He wanted them to willing give up one of the Kanto starters. They were powerful, iconic, and rare species that were unlikely to be found in the wild. Even overseas the Kanto starters were iconic and highly desired. Jack and Ash both looked at one another, trying to see which one would back down first. Jack's scowl was a clear indicator that he had no interest in forgoing Charmander and risk getting a less impressive Pokemon. Ash wasn't about to back down either though, he clenched his jaw as he stared back at the taller boy, he was as tall as Professor Oak himself and stood nearly a head over Ash. Jack was an imposing person physically, and he furthered it with his red leather jacket and black jeans that were tucked into steel toed boots; what was worse was that Ash knew for a fact that the blonde kept a survival knife tucked into his right boot. But Ash wouldn't back down, he kept his gaze on Jack, who never broke eye contact. Both trainers waiting to see who would back down first.
It was almost a full minute of silence as the two teenagers, who had a habit of getting into fights with each other, stared each other down. Professor Oak was watching from the side, clearly regretting his decision more and more every second that passed. The young Charmander that they were competing for looked back and forth between the two. Leaf was almost as interested in the outcome as much as Charmander was. She was secretly hoping that Ash would take the Charmander and that Jack would get something like a Rattata, after all Ash was one of her few friends (and an easy mark) and Jack was bully that grabbed her ass on more than one occasion. Gary was perhaps the most interested in the conflict, he didn't care which of the two took the Charmander, but he was hoping that the two would break out into a fist fight over it, that sure would make this great day even better.
Everyone, including Jack, was surprised when Ash suddenly turned around. "You can take Charmander Jack. Just make sure to take care of it." Ash's voice was tense and strained, he clearly had a hard time saying it. His action had shocked them all. They all knew Ash and knew that he didn't give up on anything, especially to Jack. So for him to willing surrender a chance at a Charizard greatly shocked them all.
Jack smirked and turned towards Charmander, "heh, smart move Ketchum." He reached down and patted Charmander a little harder than Ash would have, but not painfully, before turning towards the Professor.
The Professor smiled at the outcome and handed over Charmander's poke ball to Jack. "Excellent. Ash do me a favor and wait right here for a few minutes while I set everyone else up with their Pokedexs and send them on their way." The Professor spoke as he ushered the three others down the stairs of the loft towards the main floor.
"Sure thing Professor." The dejection in Ash's voice was audible. He was upset about not getting one of the Kanto starters, but he didn't surrender because he was afraid of Jack. No Ash would never surrender, especially not to Jack of all people. He had a plan, well more of an idea. Ash had known the Professor for his entire life, the Professor being a frequent visitor to his mother's diner in town the two were close friends. His mother, Delia, often visited the Professor in his lab, bringing over desserts and the two having tea while gossiping about what happened town. Delia would usually take Ash over with her and Ash had the opportunity to play in the field directly behind the lab with some of the younger Pokemon, of course he was always supervised by either the Professor's Arcanine or Alakazam. When he turned 10, the Professor had been kind enough to offer Ash a job at the lab as a field worker. The boy had jumped at the opportunity and for the next five years he spent any time not in school or doing homework fixing fences, feeding and caring for the various Pokemon at the ranch, and learning directly from the Professor himself as well as the dozens of lab techs and field hands that were employed at the ranch. Because of all this Ash was well acquainted with Professor Oak and his personality.
The grandfather of two was a kind and caring man who, after earning himself the title of Champion moved onto research. He spent decades researching the relationships between humans and Pokemon. And because of that area of research Oak had developed a fondness for secretly testing people. Ash had seen the Professor study some of the lab tech's daily routines and then mess with them slightly; like changing out regular coffee for decaff or setting the clock ahead or behind by an hour, etc., just to see what would happen. Yes the Professor loved to test people, Ash had seen several times over the years where the Professor gave people some type of ultimatum (never anything really serious) and made them choose so that he could see what would happen.
Ash was sure that was what was happening now. He was sure (at least he hoped he was sure) that the Professor was testing him and Jack, trying to see who would be the bigger person and back down. The Professor was too nice of man to ask someone to give up a Kanto starter and then give them a Rattata or a Pidgey. No the old man was someone who greatly respected hard work and rewarded it appropriately. And they were among the highest scorers in his Licensing Exam, they earned their right to raise a rare and powerful Pokemon. Between placing high in the exam and being asked to give up a Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, Ash was sure that the other batch of Pokemon that the Professor had for him to choose from were almost as rare; maybe one of them was shiny or something!
Boy he really hoped that he was right about this, the Professor may have been a kind person, but he was also forgetful and tended to put things off till the last minute. Ash just had to have faith in the Professor and his knowledge of the man.
"ASH! You can come down anytime your ready!" The 15 year old jumped at the Professor's voice, he wasn't sure how long he was spaced out. He practically ran down the stairs of the loft and into the main room. As he stepped off the final stair he saw the Professor sitting in an office chair in front of a large monitor. On the screen was a breaded brown haired man that looked to be in late 30s or early 40s. He was tanned and was fairly muscular. He most likely spent a good deal of time outside. "Ah, there you are." The Professor swiveled his chair around to look at him. "Ash meet Professor Birch, he's a researcher from the Hoenn region that specializes in how Pokemon interact with their native habitat. And Professor Birch I'd like to introduce you to Ash Ketchum, one of the trainers that I'm sponsoring this year."
"Well hello there young man!" Professor Birch greeted jovially and with a wave.
Ash responded with his own wave and a usual big smile, "Nice to meet you Professor Birch."
"Ash when I found out that I had to provide four Pokemon instead of the usual three I was a little unsure of how to proceed. But then I realized that it would be a perfect opportunity to test you and Jack." Ash had never felt so relieved and satisfied to hear that he was correct about a theory. "You see Ash being a Pokemon trainer means that sometimes you will have to make hard choices, and sometimes the choices you make might be the right ones, but its still difficult to bare the consequences. That's why I gave you and Jack the ultimatum over that Charmander, to see which of you would make the hard choice, and I'm glad that it was you. Jack, as well as the others, all have potential to be great, but I've been watching over you the last several years that you've been working for me and I think you have a real chance to reach the highest level in the Pokemon world." Ash couldn't help but blush at the kind words the Professor spoke. It was really hard to not be flattered when one of the most respected people in the entire world spoke such high words of you.
Thankfully Professor Birch interrupted Ash before he could get emotional and say something stupid. "And it just so happened that this situation coincided with a little project I just started. You see Ash I'm interested in seeing how starter Pokemon handle being in a foreign region early on in their development. Starter Pokemon are generally rare species and just randomly releasing species of Pokemon into a foreign environment can be both damaging to the Pokemon being released and the environment that they are being released in. Which is why I am handing out some of the starter Pokemon that are bred here for my sponsors to trainers in other regions, so that we can see how young Pokemon develop being raised in a foreign environment."
Ash was so excited, they had all but said that he was going to get a Hoenn Pokemon! He was so excited that he knew that he was bouncing on the balls of his feet and he didn't care. Although he was excited he couldn't help but inquire. "Does that mean there's no research on starter Pokemon in foreign regions?" Ash had learned a bit from Professor Oak over the years, and while he wouldn't say that he was interested in becoming a researcher, he did develop a small interest in the science behind Pokemon.
Professor Oak had decided to answer him this time. "There is research in the field but it usually focuses on fully evolved species or secondary stages that had matured enough to be released in a foreign environment. Releasing rare species in a new environment in their basic form is dangerous cause they are unlikely to understand their new habitat. By providing a young Pokemon to a starting trainer however, it provides us a good way to observe a young Pokemon developing in a variety of new environments and how that affects the relationship with the trainer over time. It's a project that provides data for both Professor Birch and my own lab. I had originally thought about Gary for this, but in the end I wanted to have someone that was mature enough to make a that tough decision."
"So if Gary or Leaf had stepped forward then you would have given them the Hoenn Pokemon?" Ash was curious about what might have happened, but he also wanted confirmation on him getting a Hoenn Pokemon.
"That's right Ash."
"Ash," Professor Birch's voice brought the 15 year old's attention back to the screen, "please take a look at this." The younger Professor moved the camera so that it was angled more towards the floor. He then took out three pokeballs from his coat pocket and released three Pokemon. A calm looking small green bipedal Lizard, an adorable orange chick, and a cute blue quadrupedal amphibian stood on the hardwood floor of Professor Birch's lab. "Well Ash I'd like you to meet the Grass type Treecko, the Fire type Torchic, and the Water type Mudkip. Which one of these three would you like to be your starter?"
Ash looked at the three Pokemon in the screen and tried to figure out which one he wanted to pick. While he had been looking forward to the one of the Kanto starters, the situation became even better. Before he was limited in his choice because he wasn't going first, but now he had the option to not only pick from three different Pokemon, from rare and foreign Pokemon that couldn't be found in the Kanto region. He had studied the Hoenn starters before so he knew some things about them, although not as much as he knew the Kanto starters. All three were amazing and some of the most popular of starter Pokemon in the world. A Sceptile was an incredibly fast Pseudo-dragon, Blaziken were powerful fire types and world class fighting types, and Swampert were as physically powerful as a Blastoise, but with a fantastic type combination. What a hard choice!
Ash was silently thinking over the decision for several minutes, he even started pacing again in the lab; much to the amusement of the two professors and even the Pokemon observing him through the screen. It was kind of them to give him so much time to think it over, but that was to be expected, they knew better than anyone the importance of the decision he was about to make. After several minutes he thought he finally had his choice made. Taking a deep breath and looking back at the three Hoenn Pokemon, Ash took one last chance to imagine himself standing next to each of their fully evolved forms.
He made his decision. Nodding his head to solidify his choice, Ash looked at both Professors, "Professors, I would like to pick Treecko as my starter."
Professor Oak smiled and nodded at his choice.
"An excellent choice Ash!" Professor Birch joyfully exclaimed, Ash had just met Birch but he was beginning to think that the man was a naturally happy person."I'll send Treecko right over." The screen went black and Professor Oak turned around in his chair and stood up.
"Well Ash, Treecko's poke-ball should be sent over in just a few minutes. Until then let's get you set up for your journey." The Professor reached into his pocket and pulled out a red pokedex. "Here's your pokedex Ash, I'm sure by now you know how important it is and what it's capable of so I won't delay you any further than necessary. That being said I do need you to use the notepad function on the pokedex to take notes on your new Treecko. Like Professor Birch and I explained earlier we're giving you this Treecko to see how it develops outside of its native region. I know you've been shown over the years how to write research notes, so just do your best and when you finish an entry just email it to me. Contact me if you have any questions. I put Professor Birch's email into the address book also in case you have any questions for him too."
"Sure thing Professor! It'll be cool to do some research for you and be part of such a cool study."
"Excellent, here are some additional poke-balls for you to start your journey." He said as he pulled out five poke-balls and handed them to the new trainer. "And if you come over here I'll give you something else."
The Professor started walking over to a table against the back wall. "I normally don't do this but Gary is my grandson, I've known you and your mother long enough that I consider you like another member of the family, and I'm well acquainted with Leaf as well." The Professor's light tone dropped into one of exasperation at the mention of Leaf. The girl had been forced to work at the ranch many times over the years as a punishment for some kind of misdeed or scam that she had tried near the Professor. Two of her most infamous were when she was 10 she had actually tried to steal a Squirtle the day before the sponsored trainers showed up to choose and then when she was 12 she put on a lab coat and, with a box of empty poke-balls, told unsuspecting visiting trainers that she was a lab assistant and that the Professor needed to get rid of some additional Pokemon, for "a small price" of course. "Because of this I got all of you an additional gift." The Professor waved his arm towards the table where some strange looking poke-balls were sitting. "These are Apricorn poke-balls. They're poke-balls that are made using the Apricorn fruit and they all have unique traits. Feel free to pick whichever one you want as personal gift from me."
"Ooh, what kind of special traits do they have Professor?"
"This one is called a Fast ball, it increases the chance of capture on Pokemon that are especially fast." He pointed at one that looked like a regular poke-ball but with a lightning bolt on the front and yellow circles on the sides. "This one is the Love ball, which is helpful when trying to capture a Pokemon of the opposite gender than the one your battling with." The ball in question was magenta on top and had a pink heart on the upper front. "This one is helpful if you plan on capturing some lower level Pokemon later on in your journey, its called a Level ball." It had an orange and black top with a red 'V' on the front. Finally pointing at a poke-ball with a gray top and had four blue bubbles jutting out of the top's sides. "And finally this one is the Heavy ball. It's more effective the heavier a Pokemon is."
Taking a minute to choose Ash reach out and pick up the Heavy ball. "I'll take this one Professor." The Level Ball wouldn't come in handy until much later in his journey so he really didn't think the Level Ball was for him. For many species of Pokemon it was difficult to differentiate the sex without a close look, as a result he wasn't really confident in getting a good use out of the Love Ball. Choosing between the Heavy Ball and the Fast Ball was difficult, but he felt confident in choosing the Heavy Ball. Many heavy Pokemon were physcially strong and defensive, which meant there would be a good chance for a long drawn out battle. He might be able to avoid that and get himself a tank with the Heavy Ball in his possession.
"Hmm, an excellent choice."
Both of them turned around toward the transporter when they heard it come to life. Suddenly a poke-ball with a the grass type symbol engraved on the front materialized in the slot. The Professor reached out and grabbed it before handing it to Ash and nodding his head, silently telling him to release Treecko.
After pressing the ball's release button Treecko materialized on the ground in front of the two humans. It stood still and observed the humans it was meeting for the first time with an almost laid back and indifferent attitude, but if one looked carefully they could see that Treecko was paying close attention to the entire area and was ready to jump into action at a moment's notice. Treecko's gazed fell onto Ash, knowing that he was the trainer that he was supposed to go with. Ash crouched down so that he was more at Treecko's level and slowly extended his hand and began speaking slowly and calmly. "Hey there Treecko, my name is Ash and I wanna be a Pokemon Master, the greatest Pokemon Master. Do you want to come travel with me?"
Treecko looked down at Ash's hand for a few seconds before raising his head to look Ash in the eyes. The little lizard then crossed its arms and turned its back to the boy. Ash was caught a little bit by surprise and was momentarily disheartend, but he felt signifcantly better when Treecko raised its bisected tail to him and looked at him over his shoulder. Like Pikachu and Squirtle, Treecko rubbed their tails together when socializing. Smiling to himself Ash gently put his hand on Treecko's tail and shook it gently; Treecko seemed to hum in agreement at the action.
"Well it looks like Treecko has accepted you as its trainer Ash." The Professor's amused voice both his and Treecko's attention towards the elderly man. "Why don't you scan it with your Pokedex?"
Ash nodded and pulled the pokedex out the pocket of his red short sleeved hoodie and pointed it at his first Pokemon.
Treecko: The Wood Gecko Pokemon. A grass type. Treecko generally have calm and collected personalities. They live in groups in thick jungles and overgrown forests and are highly protective of their homes. Because of this they and their evolutions are often referred to as 'The Protectors of the Forest'.
This Treecko is Male with the ability Overgrowth.
It possesses the moves: Pound, leer, quick attack. This Treecko has the egg move Dragon Breath (locked).
"Oh wow! Treecko, your so strong!" Treecko tried to seem indifferent to Ash's praise, making a point of looking away and having a bored look in its eyes, but the fact that it pounded its thick and powerful tail against the ground several times gave away how happy it was.
"Well Ash, it's already after 10, I imagine you'll want to get started on journey. You still have to show Treecko off to your mother after all."
Standing up Ash looked at the Professor, "Yea your right. Thank you Professor Oak, for everything." The 15 year old held out his hand which earned him a chuckle from the old man who firmly shook his hand back. After releasing his mentors hand Ash looked down at Treecko again, "Well Treecko, are you ready to get going?" Treecko's nod was the only response that Ash needed so he turned around and began walking towards the front door with his new Treecko by his side.
